Nokia today marked the next phase in the evolution of Maemo software with the new Nokia N900. Taking its cues from the world of desktop computing, the open source, Linux-based Maemo software delivers a PC-like experience on a handset-sized device. The Nokia N900 has evolved from Nokia's previous generation of Internet Tablets and broadens the choice for technology enthusiasts who appreciate the ability to multitask and browse the internet like they would on their desktop computer.

Sign Unsigned S60 Apps

There are a lot of ‘unsigned’ applications floating around the web, partly because part time developers either do not have the time or money to get their applications signed via the Symbian Signed program. While quite a bit of such applications can be signed via the Open Signed website, some cannot be and quite frankly there are times when we are simply lazy. For all such reasons it is best to have a developer certificate with which you can sign the files on the phone itself and install without having to bother with any other method. The following tutorial will show you how to get a certificate (generally within three hours) and is much easier than the OPDA method.

You can also check your friends' status messages to see what your friends are up to. Ovi Contacts is all about keeping in touch with people who matter. If you have used Nokia Chat you will find Ovi Contacts mobile application familiar. Ovi Contacts is based on the standard XMPP protocol and there is an in-built federation of XMPP communities like Google and Jabber. Nokia’s presence solutions link to 3rd party solutions and aim to increase communication between people. The average user will consume about 4 MB of data when using the service over a month. Data consumption depends on the amount of friends you have, amount of messages you exchange, and your network conditions.

Nokia Betalabs today releases Nokia Java Runtime 2.0 for S60 (JRT 2.0) is a totally re-written Java mobile execution environment for Nokia S60 devices. It gives you several usability and performance improvements. From now on, Java Runtime will be developed and released independent from S60 releases. This means that you will always get the latest version directly to your phone, using the built-in Nokia S60 Software Update functionality.

Crash Bandicoot Mutant Island

Mobile gamers will be interested to know that Crash is returning with another 2D side-scroller, Mutant Island. The game is being developed by Glu Mobile and it doesn't look that different from the mobile version of Crash of the Titans. Mutant Island appears to be the latest in the line of mobile 2D Crash sidescrollers. Crash will retain his ability to control large mutants and harness their powers to progress. Platforming will be present and Crash will venture through different worlds, some of which can be seen in the screenshots above (a castle, a dungeon and a big ol' tree, respectively). And the rest is speculation.

How would you like to see a full screen display of your friends and relatives faces on the phone’s screen when they call or text you or see a full screen video of your daughter when she rings you? The SkyeCaller PRO II does just that by adding a visual element to all voice and text communications. It allows easy personalization of caller image display, video ringtone playback and management of audio ringtones. Beyond displaying fullscreen caller/messager images Skyecaller PRO implements video ringtones, audio ringtone management, some additional new functionality (such as the ability to assign images/videos/ringtones to a contact OR to a profile), and an entirely new menu/operation structure that I simply love! Beyond all that, Skyecaller PRO gives you the ability to quickly and easily download content using menu options within the app that initiate the integrated S60 3rd browser and link directly to the appropriate Skyestream content page.

Nimbuzz Mobile lets you call, chat, message, and send files on the go, for free. It combines all your buddies from Skype, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, AIM, Google Talk and more. One login, one contact list, all accounts. See who´s online and where, call/group-call, chat/chatrooms, offline messaging, send photos/music/video, voice messaging. Nimbuzz Mobile free to download and use. However, since Nimbuzz uses your internet connection, incremental data charges from your provider will apply. We therefore strongly recommend to use the mobile client only with a flat-rate data plan or free Wifi connection.
