Hawaiian Surfer Carissa Moore wins Women's Final at the Australian Open of Surfing

Two-time and reigning ASP Women’s World Champion, Carissa Moore, dropped one of the best single maneuvers by a female surfer this web content provider has ever seen on her way to winning the women’s final over fellow Hawaiian Alessa Quizon.
Obviously a world champ knows how to surf, but one particular layback snap Moore did was next-level. Completely controlled, fins out, full layback at speed – it was epic. The performance benchmark for women’s surfing was lifted higher with that single move. You can guarantee Moore’s rivals will be out there looking to incorporate and replicate the move in there own repertoire from tomorrow onwards.
The wave score for Moore was a 9.43 out of a possible perfect 10 and from there the final was done.

Carissa Moore was the standout performer all event and didn't disappoint in the final

“It’s been a while since I had a jersey on and it was good to get back into it, then this morning I started getting nervous and I just had to tell myself to relax and have fun,” said Moore. “The conditions really smoothed out and the waves were super fun today. I got that 9.43 in the Final and it was such a nice wave, but I didn't expect to get that score. I did a speed floater and then tried to push the last turn as hard as I could and I’m just stoked that I popped back up after it.”
Quizon is having a breakthrough year, next month she will make her debut as one of the Top 17 surfers on the ASP Women's World Championship and today she made the Final of an ASP 6-Star QS event for the first time. Quizon is in great form posting two scores in the 7-point-range in the Final, but unfortunately for her she ran into Moore and had to settle for second.
“I’m super happy to have had a final against Carissa,” Quizon said. “We grew up surfing with each other and have surfed against each other our whole childhood. I’m so happy for her, and I’m happy that I made it this far. I feel like I’m building momentum and I’m looking forward to my first WCT event. I’m being positive and focused, but I’m also having fun.”

RVCALOHA AND POW! WOW!

RVCA took off for the sunny shores of Hawaii for a six-week residency that included excursions with RVCA’s skate, art and surf teams — a huge network of notables that included Barry Mcgee, Kelsey Brookes, Dmote, Remio, Kevin Ancell, Keegan Gibbs, Estevan Oriol, Norm, Danny Fuller, David Choe, Julian Schnabel, Herbie Fletcher, Makua Rothman, Katch, ASAP Yams, YG, B.J. Penn, Mike Miller and more. While there, RVCA romped with the POW! WOW! Hawaii family to create murals in Honolulu’s brimming street art scene – with paint provided courtesy of Montana Cans; went ditch skating with the RVCA skate team; and witnessed the 2013 Billabong Pipe Masters surfing competition, where Kelly Slater was crowned victor.

Hawai‘i’s unofficial uniform is the boardshort—a perfect fit for the birthplace of surfing. Boardshorts in Hawai‘i were initially created as custom-made surf trunks by tailors at popular venues such as the H. Miura Store in Hale‘iwa, Take’s in Waikīkī, or M. Nii’s in Mākaha during the 1950s. These early boardshorts were first designed for fit and comfort, maximized for the ultimate wave-riding experience. Boardshorts: A Perfect Fit, chronicles the fascinating evolution of a single, simple garment that today is a symbol of extreme sports and a counterculture lifestyle.
Historic photographs and vintage film footage of early waveriders, fast-forwarded to clips of contemporary competitive surfers, will set the stage for what has become a graphic expression of style. From cotton twill to nylon canvas to stretch polyester, boardshort fabrics were dictated by a need for speed, comfort, flexibility and durability in surviving unforgettable pounding surf and epic waves. The line up included palaka, plaids, Hawaiian print florals, skulls, sharks, solids or stripes ablaze in a spectrum of color palettes marking the current trends of the day. Coconut buttons, grommets, snaps and Velcro® closures, along with triple-stitched seams have been transformed with the newest technology in a move to a more dynamic, lightweight, sleeker profile with innovative fused seams and trademarked water-repellent finishes.
Nostalgically remembered as surf shorts, bathing suits, swim trunks, bun-huggers, baggies, boardies or Jams, boardshorts are here to stay. Industry giants such as Quiksilver, Billabong and Hurley have revolutionized this trade, which has exponentially exploded on a grand scale in reaching global markets. Whether these were "Made in Hawaii," "‘Made in the USA" or "Made Abroad," boardshorts are an intersection of fashion, art, entertainment and athleticism.
