The former trio are now a four-piece and the new members have fitted in like a well-worn glove. The driving rhythms and wicked guitar solos pick up from where the last record left off, while Andrew's voice seems to have actually become bigger (if that's possible!).

There's about 3 songs that will have radio jumping including the new single, "New Moon Rising", which is simply classic Wolfmother.

Overall, it's a massive sounding record that reminds us a lot of everyone from Soundgarden and GNR to Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath.

The film tells the story of three young friends whose passion in life is surfing. The friends include: Matt (Jan-Michael Vincent) a self-destructive and has a devil-may-care attitude; Jack Barlowe (William Katt), the calm and responsible one of the bunch; and Leroy "The Masochist" Smith (Gary Busey), whose name tells a lot about his personality.

Their surfing lives are traced from the summer of 1962 to their attempts of dodging the Vietnam War draft in 1965, and to the end of their innocence in 1968 when one of their friends is killed in Vietnam. The three make the difficult transition to adulthood with parties, surf trips, marriage, and the war.

The friends reunite years later after Barlowe has served time in Vietnam for the "Great Swell of '74." With this reunion the transitions in their lives becomes the end point of what the 1960s meant to so many as they see that the times have changed and what was once a time of innocence is forever gone.

Freedom Hawk - Sunlight

Born from similar timbre as Black Sabbath, Zeppelin and Fu Manchu, Freedom Hawk wedges in psychedelia with groove heavy rock and roll. The band knows how to shake ground and be thunderous but also when to ease back, to wallow in the groove, the funk, the palatial sweep of shapely and echoing guitar riffs.

Sunlight transcends the genre, offering more than simply metal for the masses or the skate, surf and stoner crowd. There’s no further proof than ‘Going Down’, a sultry, sexy slow groove that boasts fuzzed out guitar, gentle beats and T.R. Morton’s vocals seemingly coming from another dimension. The track is a complete surprise, buried beneath the entire swagger and power found on Sunlight.

There's an awful lot going on in MagnaPlasm both visually and aurally, a lot of experimentation with film formats, water and land angles, flashy editing, odd but perfect music and even claymation. Troy Eckert and Richard Woolcott put a tremendous amount of work into their videos, which is why they produce one every five years or so, but its also why they are one of the best things going in the surf video world. The core of MagnaPlasm is good surfing (most of its good, anyway), in all kinds of surf, from junk Newport to barreling Baja to the familiar North Shore to the mysterious outer islands. Bruce Irons is the lead man here, a natural surfing talent whose style reflects the natural beauty of his home state of Kauai.

Current Swell - Protect Your Own

With their second release, this local surf/ska/reggae/rock outfit has really begun to find their own distinctive sound. Current Swell’s debut, 2005’s So I Say, sounded more like a Sublime tribute record, but Protect Your Own shows the boys branching out and really experimenting with new styles. Most notably, there’s a lot more slide guitar and harmonica, adding a grittier, bluesy aspect to their sound, particularly on tracks like the clap-tastic opener “Nailed Up” and “Cursed.” The more ska- and reggae-heavy tunes are still here (“Red Shag Carpet,” “Bring Me Down”) and there’s even a dose of twang (“Booze in Hell”) thrown in for good measure. This is a solid record that shows a real growth in the band.

Three And A Quarter - Chubby Dubby

The history of Three and a Quarter is somewhat complicated but I think this is accurate-- The three boys met at the respective ages of 15, 15, and 14 while attending high school at the I.E.L. (Instituto Espanol de Lisboa) in Lisbon, Portugal. Having recently begun picking up the guitar and bass, the three would skip class to jam and figure out how to play their favorite songs. After various impromptu acoustic performances (the most memorable of these was the "Ricky's Bathroom Concert") the three played their first few gigs in 1995 with singer Paul Freitas (who at the time was playing with Sebastiano in a band called Apoca'lips) and the already infamous drummer and "green thumb" Pedro Gorman (known by some as "the Gorefest"). Although their band, Backwash, gained a considerable amount of fame in at least three different secondary schools, both Paul and Pedro decided to leave Portugal for University, and so the band broke up. ---Paul and Pedro currently reside in Lisbon. Paul has become an avid skater/surfer/photographer and now plays guitar for the exceptionally talented Portuguese hard-core band More Than Hate (link to their site). Pedro has given up his agricultural ambitions and now dedicates time to his writing and his work for National Portuguese television. (...)
