Stretch Armstrong May Expand His Popularity in 2014

There is not shortage of stretchy superheroes, but its Stretch Armstrong who looks to become the household name in 2014 with his own film. Hasbro (the people who brought you Transformers, GI Joe, and soon Battleship) looking to expand their brand have tapped Stretch for a 2014 release.

I think I would rather see a Plastic Man movie, but after the deplorable effects used on Mr. Fantastic in the Fan 4 films, I am not sure I even want that. Is anyone excited for this?

Black Canary Will Sing on the CW

Its official, the Green Arrow pilot simply titled Arrow is shooting forward and thanks to The TV Addict, we have some casting details including a call for Dinah Lance AKA Black Canary who made her last live action foray in the ill fated Birds of Prey series. The character is described as:

Dinah “Laurel” Lance: 28 years old, smart sexy, Laurel is a legal aid attorney determined to use her life as a one-woman war against the 1% following the death of her younger sister Sara. A sister, who as luck would have it, just so happened to have died aboard Oliver’s yacht.

I know I have been ranting about how strange it is that Atlanteans can't breathe underwater, but I just realized something else pretty ludicrous. If Aquaman dies if he is out of the water for an hour, does that mean he can't even spend time in Atlantis? I mean, a quick shopping trip maybe, but for dinner, forget it. Or is it OK as long as he has a glass of water with his food? So strange. Then what is Aquaman anyways? Neither man nor Atlantean, he is an outcast with only his companion Aqualad who strangely shares that exact same genetic deficiencies.

The Justice Society of America, precursor to the Justice League, was the first comic book superhero team, first appearing in 1940's All Star Comics #3. As the years went by, DC would introduce the concept of alternate Earths with the JSA belonging to Earth 2 while the JLA was formed on Earth 1. Could it be, The Brain is back once again? If I am counting correctly, this is El Cerebro's 4th appearance fighting Aquaman. After 4 defeats, he may want to consider changing his name especially after how stupidly he acted this time. The Brain enlisted a computer's help, by the looks of it, the same computer that calculated the location of the golden-ticket bearing Wonka bars. This computer gave The Brain the idea to make Aquaman super buoyant. While mining gems to make the buoyancy ray, The Brain managed to trap Aquaman, Lad, and even Tusky in a water thickening beam, but since that wasn't the way the computer had suggested to defeat Aquaman, The Brain just left the heroes there to escape... DUH!

Superman has Lex Luthor and Batman has the Joker. Perhaps Wonder Woman's most recognizable villain is Cheetah. Cheetah first appeared in 1943 within the pages of Wonder Woman #6. And although a cheetah cannot change her spots, there have been a number of changes to the design of the ferocious feline felon over the years. Cheetah is slated to next appear as a member of the notorious Legion of Doom in the upcoming animated film, Justice League: Doom. Some divers laid some traps including a giant fruit roll-up that turned invisible to capture the "Aqua boob." Not sure what Captain Sly had against Aquaman though. And although it was funny watching Aquaman swim into a pane of glass like a stupid fish in a tank, it didn't seem a terribly dangerous trap. The fruit roll-up on the other hand managed to defeat the lad. After a minute or so. the episode devolved into an all out fight between the goons and Aquaman and his fish. One truly odd thing did stand out in the episode though, in a period of 10 seconds (literally, I timed it) Aqualad was shown riding Imp, then a giant sea turtle, then a swordfish. The boy really gets around.

Its the Sea Sorcerer! Yikes. Not only could he conjure sandstorms, but he also commanded a fire breathing dragon. Sometimes I wonder if the show writers forgot that the show was set under water because there sure were an awful lot of fire based attacks. I guess at least this time it could be attributed to magic, but still I don't think that excuse works every time. Anyways, this Sorcerer guy was pretty tricky. First he attacked A-Man, then hid. Then he pretended to be a victim of the sorcerer to break up the underwater duo. Then he revealed himself AGAIN. He summoned some more fire and a little ice, but A-Man had had enough. One well placed water ball to the spell book took him out, but even if he showed up again Aquaman probably wouldn't have recognized him.

By gum, The Brain was back for thirds. And whats that, Mirror-Man is an Aquaman doppelganger! I knew this was gonna be a good one. Not only did the look alike look like A-Man, he also had fishakinesis which led to a fish SNAFU. The clone even knew to call A-Lad "tadpole" and "minnow." But Storm was no fool. The real Aquaman would never shake a baby, but Mirror-Man gave Tusky a shaking and A-Lad a tongue lashing. Of course, the doubles finally squared off and A-Man 2 conveniently melted just as Aquman was ready to call it a day.

Hold on a sec! Was Tusky swimming in the Aquacave? I know I just went on a little rant about the cave, but that was before I realized it was full of water. That underwater computer is now even more ridiculous. Having said that, I had absolutely no problem with the pink crystalline people, nor the fact that some dude dressed up like Magellan wants to conquer their jewel city. But hold the phone. Forget Captain Cuda, the real "gem" in this episode was Cuda's surfboard who happened to be Starro the Conqueror!

Thanks to Animation Magazine, we have our first look at members of the Star Sapphire Corps who will appear later in the first season on Green Lantern: The Animated Series. Surprisingly they are about as scantily clad as their comic book counterparts. Not sure which violet spectrum wielders will appear, but its appears for the time being at least that Carol Ferris will be absent from their ranks. I am looking forward to seeing the rainbow of corps as they assembe.

Now I suppose it is about time I addressed the Aquacave. I get it that back in the day many of the superheroes were sort of interchangeable and made from the same mold. Green Arrow was basically a Batman clone, etc. And Aquman was just the ocean guy. Of course all heroes need a headquarters, right? Batman had the Batcave, Superman had the Fortress of Solitude, and A-Man, got the Aquacave. The thing is, an underwater "cave" complete with a "state of the art" computer doesn't really make sense. For one thing, the name is stupid. Bats live in caves, hence Batcave. Maybe the Aquacave should be called "The Reef" or something more aquatic. Secondly, the setting is just an electric shock waiting to happen, but I digress.

I suppose it shouldn't be too surprising that a Green Arrow show is in the works for the CW. The Green Arrow character was one of the more popular additions to Smallville, and throughout the finale seasons of that show, rumors of a Green Arrow spin-off persisted. While this incarnation, titled Arrow, is not in fact a spin-off, its will likely be targeted toward Smallville fans.

Uh oh, Tusky got lost. Then he got attacked by a serpent made of grass thanks to the Sea Scamp AKA Megamind. Aquaman turned the monster into a "tossed salad." Next, a coral monster struck, but he turned out to not be rock proof. On a roll, the Seas Scamp next created a phosphorous monster. Luckily Aquaman just happened to have a chunk of phosphorous with him. This monster was once again taken out by A-Man's minions. Suffering from the same spatial reasoning limitations as Kahn, Aquaman thought he could hide in the underwater canyon maze. But Scampy went in for the kill leading to his humiliating defeat. This episode was a dud!
