<p><strong><em>Mike: Thanks for taking the time to do this interview. First so we all have some perspective, how long have you been a trainer?</em></strong></p>
<p><strong>Alwyn Cosgrove:</strong> I started training people in 1989. Actually 1987 if you count teaching martial arts classes.<br />
In 1995 (after college) I went full time. Since day one I&#8217;ve been very particular about what I do. I track and tweak everything. When we opened Results Fitness in 2000, we really started to gather a lot of data. We currently have 250 members and we track all their workouts and body comp changes week in and week out.</p>
<p><strong><em>Mike: So it is like you run your own fat loss studies at your gym?</em></strong></p>
<p><strong>Alwyn:</strong> Exactly. We had read all the studies showing interval training to be superior for fat loss than steady state training. This confirmed what we were seeing with our clients. But I am a big believer in that there is no physiological limit to the amount of weight a person can lose in a week, month, or year so I kept tweaking and tracking the results.</p>
<p><strong><em>Mike: What has been one of your biggest breakthroughs lately?</em></strong></p>
<p><strong>Alwyn:</strong> One day it hit me &#8212; cardiovascular programming is an ass-backwards concept.</p>
<p>I don’t know when I first thought this – but it was confirmed to me when viewing Lance Armstrong’s performance in the New York Marathon.</p>
<p>I’d been taught through my college education and countless training certifications and seminars that cardiovascular exercise was necessary to improve the cardiovascular system and subsequently aerobic performance.</p>
<p>But there seemed an inherent flaw in that argument….</p>
<p>Why didn’t Lance Armstrong – with perhaps one of the highest recorded VO2 max levels in history – win the New York Marathon? Or beat people with lesser aerobic levels than himself?</p>
<p>The greatest endurance cyclist (and possibly endurance athlete) of all time – the seven time Tour De France winner – finished 868th and described the event as the “hardest physical thing” he had ever done.</p>
<p>Runner’s World Magazine actually examined Lance&#8217;s physiology (and VO2 max which was tested at 83) and compared them to the numbers of Paul Tergat (the World Record holder and defending NYC Marathon Champion at the time).</p>
<p>They concluded:</p>
<p>&#8220;This figure wouldn&#8217;t mean much if it weren&#8217;t for the pioneering research of famed running coach Jack Daniels, Ph.D., who first published his Oxygen Power tables in 1979&#8211; According to Daniels, who&#8217;s rarely off by more than a smidgen or two, a max VO2 of 83 is roughly equivalent to a 2:06 marathon&#8221;</p>
<p>Based on his other physical qualities the magazine suggested that Lance was capable of running 2:01:11.</p>
<p>The world record at the time was 2:04:55</p>
<p>Lance ran 2:59:36 (and don&#8217;t misinterpret me &#8211; that&#8217;s still a great time). But it&#8217;s clear that the physiology didn&#8217;t transfer the way event he running community expected.</p>
<p>The flaw in this thinking was looking solely at aerobic capacity &#8212; VO2 max &#8211; the &#8220;engine&#8221; as it were. And it&#8217;s fair to say that Lance had a &#8220;Formula One&#8221; engine.</p>
<p>But he didn&#8217;t have the structural development for running. Lance was a cyclist &#8211; his body had adapted to the demands of cycling. But NOT to the specific demands of running (in fact Lance had only ran 16 miles at once EVER prior to running the marathon). Lance had developed strength, postural endurance and flexibility in the correct &#8220;cycling muscles” &#8211; but it didn&#8217;t transfer to running the way his VO2 max did.</p>
<p>From this example we know that cardio training doesn’t transfer well from one activity to another – and it only ‘kicks’ in because of muscular demand – why don’t we program muscular activity first – in order to create a cardiovascular response. Makes total sense.</p>
<p>So how does this relate to fat loss? We have found that our most successful fat loss programs center around stimulating the muscles to burn more calories not ramping up and down the cardiovascular system. What matters is total calories burn and how much you can increase the person&#8217;s metabolism. It is a total shift in thinking.</p>
<p><strong><em>Mike: Wow. So is this the death of intervals and cardio? How to you put this into action with clients?</em></strong></p>
<p><strong>Alwyn:</strong> What we have found is so great about this approach is that you burn more calories, lose more weight, while putting a lot less stress on your joints.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s how I like to think about it. Let&#8217;s look at traditional interval training which uses running.</p>
<p>Depending on stride length &#8211; walking a mile takes about 2000 repetitions and running takes 1000-1500 and will burn on average 100 calories or so.<br />
So if we use an interval training model of running and walking &#8211; we&#8217;re looking at around 1500 reps to burn 100 calories.</p>
<p>If we take traditional models of caloric burn &#8211; this means we&#8217;d need to do 35 miles to lose one pound of fat from our interval training efforts discounting the metabolic afterburn for now).</p>
<p>So we have a problem. It&#8217;s a very poor &#8220;rate of return&#8221; on our &#8220;rep investment&#8221;.</p>
<p>Additionally &#8211; running applies a vertical force of 2x body weight on the joints of the lower body.</p>
<p>So now we have a dilemma.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s choose a 180lb deconditioned overweight client.<br />
1500 reps x 360lbs = 540,000lbs of force to burn 100 calories. (The 360lbs is 2x 180lbs)</p>
<p>That&#8217;s a lot of stress on the joints. Now no one was getting injured, but it seemed like there had to be a better way.</p>
<p>So &#8212; we started to think of how we could use different interval training methods other than running to get the same metabolic effect without stressing the joints so much.</p>
<p>We used the airdyne bike, other bikes in order to create a training effect with less load. But whenever you take the bodyweight out of the equation in cardio &#8211; you have to work harder to burn the same calories. So this usually needs more reps. So that didn&#8217;t seem like a much better idea.</p>
<p>At this point we started using metabolic training with weight training implements/kettlebells and body weight in the same interval format.</p>
<p>So a circuit of five exercises, performed three times round (15 total sets) would actually burn more calories than the same time spent doing traditional cardio. That was a plus.<br />
But we could also do sets of 10-15 reps. So we&#8217;re looking at 225 total reps (with a force LESS than your body weight) as opposed to 1500+ reps at double body weight.</p>
<p>We gave it a try. Clients loved it (which was a plus), and actually started to get better results than we were getting with intervals.</p>
<p>So we get more fat loss, less stress on the body, and happier clients. It is a win-win-win. Currently we don&#8217;t program traditional interval training our regular fat loss clients.</p>
<p>So, yeah&#8230;it is the death of traditional intervals.</p>

<p>Many people on a diet find it difficult having to keep up with their weight loss efforts when eating out. If you are one of these folks, you could be highly embarrassed every time you appear picky with your food choices, especially when socializing.</p>
<p>Many dieters find it difficult to really socialize when they are constantly thinking about what to eat and what not to eat. Nonetheless, you need to be committed in keeping up with your diet, even when you are out on a first date with somebody.</p>
<p>Often, there are times when you are face to face with a menu, which easily tempts you to loss control and to order just about anything.</p>
<p><strong>Starving Yourself</strong><br />
If you are planning to take part in a huge dinner, you need to remember that starving yourself won&#8217;t do any good. By starving yourself, you will find it more difficult having to control your appetite. This may also lead you to order items on the menu which can easily ruin your weight loss plans.</p>
<p><strong>Food Choices</strong><br />
When you order too many food choices, there is a HIGHER chance that you will overeat. Over eating will eventually lead weight gain and may result you suffering thru the uncomfortable or embarrassing problems associated with digestion as well.</p>
<p><strong>Thus, starving yourself before going out on a dinner date is not ideal. </strong></p>
<p>When you are out on an important dinner date, you need to be relaxed and not stressed-out. Many people find that dating can be really stressful and in many instances lead to overeating during these situations.</p>
<p><strong>Emotional Eating</strong><br />
Emotional Eating is another culprit that results in weight gain. It usually arises from too much stress, depression, sadness and being angry with some you love early. To overeating due to your emotions or due to the stress you simply have to relax, take things easy.</p>
<p>If you are worried that your date is going to judge you based on the way you are eating and how much food you have consumed, try to reverse your thoughts. Chances are, your date is feeling the same way too, so you only need to relax and enjoy the course of the date.</p>

<p>Often wonder &#8220;why am I constantly tired?&#8221; If so then today you will get some answers with the top 3 reasons why you&#8217;re always fatigued to no end. Best of all I&#8217;ll explain the number #1 cause of endless fatigue with no apparent answer.</p>
<p><strong><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">The Top 3 Reasons Why You&#8217;re Always Fatigued</span></em></strong></p>
<p><strong><em>Eating Too Close to Bed</em></strong> &#8211; At any given time your body is focused more on one major function than another. For instance when you eat your body is focused on digestion, this goes on well past just chewing and swallowing. You generally need about 4-5 hours to fully digest a meal, during which time a great deal of energy is spent on digesting the food. When you eat close to bedtime instead of your body redirecting energy towards regeneration and healing it instead is split between digestion and healing.</p>
<p>The end result is that neither is fully accomplished and you will end up poorly digesting your last meal before bed in addition to not actually experiencing a full &amp; complete rest. Bottom line, don&#8217;t eat anything within 4 hours of going to bed, if you must eat light and preferably liquid foods like soup or vegetables.</p>
<p><strong><em>Undiagnosed Allergies</em></strong> &#8211; If you&#8217;re always feeling out of it and fatigued another likely factor are undiagnosed allergies. These can be things such as wheat &amp; dairy which you consume daily or potentially an airborne allergy such as dust or mold which you&#8217;re exposed to daily and you&#8217;re unaware of. This is otherwise known as sick building syndrome. The best bet is to start cleaning up your diet and pay close attention to when you begin to feel the most fatigued, although this can be a challenge if its food related since many food allergies can be delayed up to 24 hours in some cases.</p>
<p><strong><em>Candida Overgrowth</em></strong> &#8211; Lastly &amp; most importantly there is chronic Candida. Candida is a fungal overgrowth that&#8217;s estimated to exist in 80% of the population and 1/3rd of which have it severely. This fungus has been shown to develop in the body due to a number of reasons such as anti-biotic use, prescription drug use in addition to a diet high in sugar. Symptoms caused by Candida can be anything from brain fog &amp; fatigue, always catching colds, frequent allergies that seem to get worse, chronic digestive problems with no end. Not to mention it also causes depression and anxiety and most people who eliminate it will experience a massive shift in their mental/physical/emotional health unlike anything else they have experienced.</p>
<p>If you are constantly tired no matter what you do, you need to seriously consider the fact that Candida is likely partially or entirely to blame. I suggest filling out a Candida questionnaire or test to determine whether or not Candida is the cause!</p>

<p><strong>Everyone wants to be slim and shapely. So here are 10 simple strategies to shape up and slim down.</strong></p>
<p>1. <strong>Don&#8217;t skip breakfast</strong>. Breakfast is like a wake-up call for your metabolism to start working. After sleeping and resting your body for the night, you need to replenish your body and get your metabolism to start working. Without food early in the morning, your metabolism will become sluggish and when you become too hungry in the late morning, you&#8217;re bound to over-eat.</p>
<p>2. Get a good night&#8217;s sleep. Even while sleeping, you burn calories. Read my article 20 Daily Activities You Can Do That Burn Calories to find more activities you can do to burn calories. Research has shown that those sleeping less than 5 hours a night are 70% more likely to be overweight. Sleep deprivation will slow down your metabolism and will make your brain think that you&#8217;re hungry and therefore you&#8217;ll start to over-eat.</p>
<p>3. Drink lots of water. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. If you&#8217;re severely overweight, drink more than 8 glasses of water a day. When you&#8217;re dehydrated, you think you&#8217;re hungry. The next time you feel like eating, drink a glass of water and see if you still feel hungry.</p>
<p>4. Don&#8217;t skip meals. Eat all your meals. You may think that by skipping meals, you&#8217;ll lose weight. You&#8217;re never more wrong. When the body senses that no food is coming in, it will think that famine is coming and so it&#8217;ll go into starvation mode and will hang on to whatever fat that it has for future consumption. So eat all your meals.</p>
<p>5. Choose a healthy menu. When eating out, opt for food that is broiled, steamed, grilled, baked or barbecued. If the portion is too big, doggy-bag it.</p>
<p>6. Avoid sugar drinks. Opt for plain water. Carbonated drinks whether original or diet are full of sugar which will make your blood sugar rise drastically.</p>
<p>7. Cook at home. You&#8217;ll not only lose weight, you&#8217;ll also save money if you cook at home. If you cook your own meals, you can determine how much salt or sugar to use.</p>
<p>8. No more junk food. Throw out all the junk food in your house. If it&#8217;s not there, you won&#8217;t have any to eat. Read my article Curb Your Cravings For Junk Food And Lose Weight to get a smoothie recipe that&#8217;ll fill you up so you won&#8217;t crave for junk food.</p>
<p>9. Smaller portions. You should eat often; preferably every 4 hours so that your body will be tricked into thinking that food is plentiful and won&#8217;t go into starvation mode. The trick here is to eat in small portions. Avoid portions that are larger than your fist. And no second helpings either. Use smaller plates so you&#8217;ll think that you have enough to satisfy your hunger.</p>
<p>10. Eat slowly. It takes the brain 20 minutes to register that you&#8217;re full so chew your food slowly and savour every bite. Drink a glass of water before you eat so your stomach feels full and you&#8217;ll not over-eat. Make your meals last 20 to 30 minutes.</p>
<p>The above suggestions are easy to follow so you can start to shape up and slim down immediately.<br />

<p>The other day I had the privilege of reading a magazine article on how to live longer. The title announced six simple suggestions on how to prolong a person&#8217;s life, and that clearly did peak my interest. Knowing my lifestyle, I had the feeling I was going to be in big trouble. You see, the author of this piece did not beat around the bush, and in her opening lines, pointed out right away that playing with &#8216;your pooch&#8217; would add one year to your current life expectancy, and &#8216;kicking the nicotine habit&#8217; yet another eight. Unfortunately, it turned out that I have neither a furry friend to play catch with, nor do I smoke, and never did. I wondered, and asked myself the question, did this mean that I had already lost out on nine of the thirty extra years that I was promised in this write-up?</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s continue and see what other routine practices were going to bring me damnation. Luckily, the next requirement was not too severe. As it turned out, I already did fight cardiovascular disease on occasion thanks to every worldly dentist&#8217;s recommendations, and even though I generally did not like flossing, and pocking around my teeth, whenever I did, it seemed an incentive from mother nature to give my bloodstream and heart an extra little boost, making me, at least according to the article, instantly stronger. Unfortunately, my routine was not habitual, and without regular flossing, I was not allowed the full benefits of this condition. Once again, I had to kiss another few additional years goodbye.</p>
<p>The next life-extending factor took me into a completely different direction. This aspect was actually aimed more towards emotions and human behavior, and explained that it was of the utmost importance I should have an optimistic outlook on life. Although I firmly believe that heartfelt laughter is better than a frown, I find it a tad tough to smile when writing my husband&#8217;s &#8220;ex&#8221; her monthly support check! It is also rather impossible for me to be perky when I see the horror-filled news every night. That is also not taking into consideration my face when I pull up at a gas station to fill up my modest, and quite efficient Mazda&#8217;s gas tank! I can&#8217;t even start to imagine the&#8221; joy dance&#8221; those big SUV and truck owners must be doing, when perusing their gas receipts. Anyway, it looked like I would have to deduct another six years, because my smile was not as permanent-natured as it should have been.</p>
<p>Taking all of these tips into consideration, and focusing on a positive attitude, my glass was still half full! After all, I was getting an extra fifteen years added on, because my husband and I still played in the bedroom and I still practiced some of the other required exercise regimes&#8230; at least, if the author did not mean &#8216;daily!&#8217; In that case I probably had to subtract even more penalty points, or visit the gin&#8230; oops&#8230; gym more often.</p>
<p>On a more serious note, I had to ask myself why scientists always attempt to fill our head with so many fake promises. Are they trying to bank on our desperation, or are they just looking for glory? Ask yourself, how many people own a crystal ball to explore the future, and as far as I know, time machines are still stuck in time. In other words, with the limited technology in that specific field and scientific proof we have today, nobody can really pinpoint how long we are actually going to live &#8211; not even taking in account weird flukes of nature. So, how is it possible these geniuses can add to our lifespan, when we do not even know how long that will be to begin with? Let&#8217;s be real! A few pointers may help out in the health and beauty department, but that is no guarantee we couldn&#8217;t get hit by a bus while crossing the street. Sarcasm aside, what I am trying to explain is that, if you have the desire to live longer don&#8217;t just read one page out of the book of life, but read them all, follow a healthy lifestyle, and most of all&#8230; watch out where you are going!</p>

<p>Flu season is here and many of us will get sick. It seems we have more to worry about, though, because of antibiotic resistant Superbugs. There are things you can do to help protect yourself and even get healthier, quicker.</p>
<p>The herbs Echinacea and Goldenseal help rev up your immune system &#8211; up to 60%! This is helpful since it causes your own immune system to activate, which may help strengthen it. When used in a liquid combination, these herbs have been used to kill bacteria, fungi and protozoa and help to treat infections.</p>
<p>Goldenseal has been used for centuries to kill all kinds of bacteria including Streptococci, and has immune stimulating qualities. It also helps to protect the mucous membranes from infections in the throat, sinus, bronchi and even the gastrointestinal tract.</p>
<p>Echinacea has been shown to stimulate the immune system by promoting activity and T-cell activation. It also helps your white blood cells to aggressively attack germs.</p>
<p>This herbal combination can be a powerful addition to your medicine cabinet during flu season. The liquid form may work best. It can be absorbed easier than breaking down a pill &#8211; which is helpful for those who are sick or who have gastrointestinal complaints. But be careful &#8211; if you take it longer than 10-14 days, your body will stop responding to it and it won&#8217;t work as well.</p>
<p>Drink plenty of warm lemon water. Just squeeze some fresh lemon juice into a glass of warm water and enjoy. The warm water will help your body absorb the juice quicker.</p>
<p>Lemon juice is one of the most powerful antiseptic agents you can find in nature. It kills germs and helps clear mucous from the body. It contains powerful antioxidants, is high in Vitamin C and contrary to popular belief, is very alkaline. Therefore it can help alkalize your body, which helps you heal faster.</p>
<p>Essential Oils of Lavender and Lemon can help you relax while killing bacteria and other pathogens at the same time. Essential oils have been used for thousands of years to protect and fight disease. Both of these oils have traditionally been used to help fight infection, kill germs, help circulate and cleanse the immune system and help with overall relaxation which the body needs to heal.</p>
<p>If you decide to try these oils this flu season &#8211; be sure to get the oils that are made to be used on the skin as opposed to only in aromatherapy gadgets. When you find the oils that can be used on your skin, dilute it half almond or olive oil. These are &#8220;carrier oils&#8221; that helps your body absorb them. Try putting this mixture on your lower spine, bottom of your feet, behind your ears and the inside of your wrists. They also make a nice addition to a healing bath.</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t forget the old stand-by, Vitamin C&#8230; and lots of it. It is a powerful antioxidant, stimulates tissue growth and repair, and helps the body produce collagen. It has been shown to help decrease symptoms of asthma in some patients. It is well known to increase immunity to infections and even helps lower blood pressure.</p>
<p>There are two important parts to vitamin C; dehydroascorbic acid and ascorbic acid. Unfortunately most vitamin supplements include only the ascorbic acid. Therefore, it is best to get your main supply from food sources including these fruits and their fresh squeezed juices; lemons, oranges, limes, grapefruits, pineapples, papayas and even guavas.</p>
<p>This brings us to the last, yet very important fact that will help you strengthen your immune system this flu season &#8211; eat healthy foods. It is as simple as that. Junk food burdens your digestion which can overload your entire body. This can cause your immune system to become sluggish and not work fully. In addition, excess sugar can literally shut down the immune system.</p>
<p>Eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables along with unprocessed proteins and whole grains are easier for the body to digest, which in turn allows this extra energy to be used for the immune system to do its job. In addition there is the obvious &#8211; these foods provide the vitamins, minerals, trace minerals and enzymes needed to keep your immune system running and your body repairing.</p>
<p>Any or all of these tips can help you stay or get healthy this flu season. Use these to strengthen your immune system, keep your organs of detoxification working and help your system move any of the bad guys, including bacteria, germs and virus, out of your body before they can do harm.</p>

<p>A recent study released by the Journal of the American Medical Association raises a concern about the chemical bisphenol-A, (BPA) in plastic bottles, metal cans and various food packaging, as well as in all those eco-friendly reusable water bottles we&#8217;re all carrying around.</p>
<p>Based on a health survey, the study found that those who had higher amounts of BPA in their urine were more likely to report having heart disease and diabetes. Of course the research presents no information that says the BPA caused these conditions, and the study authors agree that you can&#8217;t rule out the possibility that people who already have heart disease or diabetes are more vulnerable to having BPA show up in their samples.</p>
<p>True to form, NBC&#8217;s Today Show aired a report earlier this year that glossed over the facts and highlighted a fearful danger &#8211; needlessly worrying millions of us who&#8217;ve fed our children from clear plastic baby bottles and sippy cups, who&#8217;ve tried not to add to the world&#8217;s pollution by switching to re-useable water bottles.</p>
<p>The story had us turning over our plastic containers in search of numbers (resin ID codes #3, #6 and #7) that it turns out, don&#8217;t have anything to do with a product being made from BPA, the chemical bad guy of the piece.</p>
<p>The &#8220;Consumer Alert&#8221; (inaccurately) said:</p>
<p>- There is no safe level of BPA, when in fact the chemical has been studied for many years and found to be safe, especially considering that the levels we ingest are thousands of times lower than the rats that have been studied.</p>
<p>- Plastics containing BPA aren&#8217;t safe in the microwave, yet a Dutch study that focused on BPA migration after microwaving found no evidence of any such thing.</p>
<p>- Codes on the bottom of a container can tell you if it&#8217;s safe. Wrong! These resin ID codes are intended to aid in recycling facilities, and have nothing to do with identifying bottles that have BPA. Any item intended to be used for food must pass tough FDA guidelines before its ever allowed on the market.</p>
<p>All this flies in the face of 40 years of science, according to a statement released by the American Chemistry Council a few days after the Today segment aired. Another thoughtful piece by Gilbert Ross, M.D. of the American Council On Science And Health (who also appeared, very briefly in the report) came out and called the Today report what it is &#8211; junk science.</p>
<p>Not only that, the in-studio guest, Dr. Leo Trasande of Mount Sinai Medical Center was given ample time during the six minute long segment to convey his message, while Dr. Ross had only 6 seconds to tell viewers that, &#8220;The toxic effects found on rats were done at thousands of times higher than we are exposed to in the environment.&#8221;</p>
<p>Not so &#8220;fair and balanced&#8221; now is it?</p>
<p>The media mis-information comes as the result of a report by the National Toxicology Program that was a follow up from an expert panel review completed in 2007. Both the expert panel and the NTP reports similarly concluded a low-rate risk, or negligible concern, for adults and some concern for infants and children.</p>
<p>&#8220;That is the third-lowest ranking on NTP&#8217;s five-level scale. Yet the media has mischaracterized the conclusions as suggesting a new direction is being given by NTP about the use of BPA. This is inaccurate,&#8221; says Sharon Kneiss, vice president of the products division of the American Chemistry Council (ACC).</p>

<p>There are many causes of hair loss and many different types of treatments to combat this embarrassing condition. The primary cause is Male and Female Pattern Baldness which affects almost half of adult males and one quarter of adult women. <a class="zem_olink" title="Cure For Baldness?" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/27000124@N05/3932867098">This cause of hair loss is directly related to your genetic makeup, a change in your hair&#8217;s supply of nutrition, levels of DHT, the amount of outside stress factors you encounter and your hygiene habits.</a></p>
<p><strong>Hair Loss Basics</strong></p>
<p>Your scalp is composed of three basic layers of skin. These are the epidermis, the dermis, and the subcutaneous layer. Within these three layers there are nerves, blood vessels, muscles, glands, and hair. Hair (called keratin) is supported by muscles surrounding the hair bulb (papilla) and shaft. This muscle tissue and the hair itself depends on blood flow in the vessels, which in turn requires oxygen and nutrients to assure the cells remain active and start new growth. As hair grows, the sebaceous gland secretes oil in the follicle which coats the hair to ensure a smooth hair shaft thus creating hair with a healthy luster and sheen. If fewer nutrients than are needed reach the papilla, hair cells reproduce at a much slower rate. This slower cellular activity produces thin, poor quality hair.</p>
<p>DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), causes up to 95% of all hair loss. DHT shrinks hair follicles by shortening the growth (anagen) phase and lengthening the resting (telogen) phase of your hair&#8217;s growth. This causes the hair follicles to eventually die. This is visible as an increased number of short, thin, fine hairs on the scalp and therefore the increased appearance of thinning and eventually baldness. For healthy hair growth, DHT needs to be blocked before or once increased hair loss is visible. The interaction of DHT with the androgen receptors in scalp skin and hair follicles appears to cause male and female pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia).</p>
<p>Sebum is the accumulation of oil from the sebaceous glands. Sebum collects in the hair follicle and hardens, creating a sebum plug which hinders and eventually stops hair growth. This excess buildup, combined with existing thin, weak hairs causes increased reduction in hair growth and therefore the increased appearance of baldness.</p>
<p>Genetics plays a role as to how early in life you may notice the aging of your scalp&#8217;s skin layers much as you may notice the changes in the skin on other parts of your body. All of us age at different rates, and it seems like there is little we can do to change this part of our hair loss equation.</p>
<p><strong>The Five Basics to Slow or Prevent Hair Loss</strong></p>
<p>The good news is, when we begin to notice thinning hair, there is still life in the hair follicle itself. This follicle&#8217;s production can be improved by attending to the five main areas mentioned above.</p>
<p>1) Proper hair nutrition includes proper diet, exercise and hydration.</p>
<p>2) DHT blocking can be accomplished by stimulation of the cellular processes in the hair bulb. <p>As a nail fungus sufferer for almost 2 years, I can tell you that nail fungus is not only embarrassing and unsightly, it is already really difficult to remove if you don&#8217;t know how to remove it. <p>The prescription drugs available for nail fungus have some serious side effects. Some of them are known to cause liver damage and others have very serious side effects. For this reason, I recommend you stay far away from prescription drugs that cure nail fungus. While they might work, it certainly is not worth the risk of screwing yourself up permanently.</p>
<p><strong>Natural nail fungus cures</strong></p>
<p>Here are some of the methods that work at curing <span style="text-decoration: underline">light nail fungal infections</span>:</p>

<p>It&#8217;s almost amazing that so many people can live such an unhealthy life that it&#8217;s surely to take years from them, and to also cause them to have a poor quality of life for those years that they do have.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, the vast majority of those living an unhealthy, obese existence, are doomed to continue on their bleak path. I know, because I too was once almost 90 pounds overweight, and was also a heavy smoker of about 1.5 packs per day. I finally, eventually saw the obvious, and was able to take control of my health, and my life.</p>
<p>I attribute much of that kind of lifestyle to what we as Americans have become accustom to &#8211; a fast-paced, get-it-now, no patience life. We eat horrible food because it&#8217;s quick and easy, I guess in many ways it&#8217;s understandable that people, not unlike water and electricity, take the path of least resistance. If you can make a lot of money doing very little work, and you can afford to have someone to do everything for you, many people will get fat and lazy.</p>
<p>The thing is, it takes very little to break that lifestyle. Just by devoting 20-30 minutes per day to a good cardiovascular exercise regimen, and by taking in a few less calories that your body needs to maintain it&#8217;s weight, you&#8217;re on a surefire course to getting lean, healthy and happy.</p>
<p>However, that no-patience attitude stops most people in their tracks before they even see a few pounds of weight loss. They want to lose the weight, they want it bad, but they also want it right now. It just doesn&#8217;t happen like that. That mentality though, is what all of the &#8220;magic pill&#8221; weight loss crooks feed on. They know people will spend nearly every cent they have on the next best weight loss scam &#8211; and they do.</p>
<p>This isn&#8217;t a pitch about the next fad diet, or hot new health supplement, it&#8217;s just to let you know that you can take control of your life, and it doesn&#8217;t take a major effort, just a little dedication and patience.</p>
<p>Most men require roughly 2400 hundred calories per day to maintain their present weight, and it&#8217;s about 1800 calories for most women. By just cutting out the junk food, and making smart choices on what you eat, and starting a reasonable exercise plan, you can obtain the weight and health that you know would give you the happiness and self-confidence that you&#8217;re now lacking.</p>
<p>Most people aren&#8217;t looking for a body-building, rigorous exercise routine. Although walking or jogging is very beneficial, it can also be hard on your joints, especial the knees, and it&#8217;s even worse if you&#8217;re overweight. One of the best options for a great cardiovascular workout is an <a href="http://loseweightgethealthy.net/category/elliptical-trainers/" target="_new">elliptical trainer</a>. It incorporates the arms, as well as most of the major muscles into the workout, and is considered to be much better than a treadmill.</p>
<p>Another good option is a <a href="http://loseweightgethealthy.net/category/total-gym/" target="_new">Total Gym</a>. By using your body weight, and a sliding seat configuration, you can make the exercises as hard or easy as you need. It will also allow for more targeted exercises of every muscle group by allowing for many specific exercises.</p>
<p>Whatever you choose, make the decision to do it for yourself, and your family, you both deserve it.</p>
