Old Barn that has seen better days

An old barn on our property that my husband said had saw it's best days and he would like to push it down and burn it! This coming from a man of course that works around bulldozers every day and maybe his answer for everything. I begged and told him the barn still had good bones and I could resuscitate some new life back into her. Well he give in of course and glad that he did. He even got excited when the transformation started even though he doesn't like carpentry in the least.

The doors were the worst part of the front.

Wind had removed the corner and some boards were falling off.

As the sun went down on the first day I was glad to have at least one of the sides back up.

I think the neighbors did a double take when they saw a woman working on an old barn. These old boards salvaged from this barn will eventually show up on Sunrise Acres Farm's website as barn wood game boards!

I ventured into this wonderful shop yesterday! It had everything this girl LOVES, designer purses, clothing, jewelry, candles, & even a good selection of Antiques.

Of course I came home with a purse, capris, & home decor! I'm sure there is something for everyone at Just Maria's. I kept sending pictures to my daughter (who has a new home) and even picked up a few new items for her home & mine. Stop in and visit I'm sure you will love it!

Fried Green Tomatoes

It's finally time to have some of these fabulous fried green tomatoes. I absolutely love fried green tomatoes.

Ingredients:

4 to 6 green tomatoes
salt and pepper
cornmeal
olive or vegetable oil

Preparation:

Slice the tomatoes into 1/4 - 1/2-inch slices. Salt and pepper them to taste. Dip in meal or take a freezer bag full of cornmeal and tumble to get them well coated then fry in skillet of oil about 3 minutes or until golden on bottom. Gently turn and fry the other side. Serve as a side dish.

This is what my tomatoes look like today just before I plucked these from the vine. This is one of the only times my husband will hang out in the kitchen.

Fitness for the new year! If your local to Monroe County and need help with your goal to get healthier and maybe stay in shape or lose a little weight.

I recently tried the step aerobics class and it was great. I'm just happy to finally be able to have a regular exercise activity to look forward to. I also tried the Jumba classes and this is kind of new to me but I loved it.

So ladies if your a local to Loudon, Lenoir City, Madisonville, Tellico Plains or Sweetwater, Check this out! Make new friends, get a little exercise and of course, GET WITH IT WOMEN!

Nice Hike in East Tennessee

Hike to Benton Falls, Camp at Chilhowee Campground, or make a day trip and take food to cook on the grills. This picture was taken of Benton Falls on 09/28/09. Heavy rainfall over the weekend had the Falls flowing full. Hiking to the falls required no heavy gear, the trail is wide and well worn, has sand in most places and seems well maintained. Great place to visit, beautiful scenery and good exercise! Get directions at Mountain Travel Guide.

Attack of the Gourds

Gourds covering an old cultivator! This is one vine that showed up early spring (volunteer as Granny would say) and I left it to grow. I think there is probably 20 or more future birdhouses on that vine. Us Country Folks are so easily amused don't you think?

Did you know that the bloom on a gourd vine only blooms at night!

Come fall I will hang these dry and proceed to turn them into bird homes.
