Primitive Wooden Game Boards

noreply@blogger.com (Wanda) — Tue, 06 Aug 2013 12:19:00 +0000

Primitive Wooden Game Boards seem to be my passion lately. Check out a few of my new creations currently listed at Sunrise Acres Farm Primitives
Several ladies recently have purchased 3 boards or more for use in their new wall samplers.

Add a checker board and 1 or 2 Parcheesi game boards for a really great Early American, Primitive, Colonial, Country wall display sampler.

I love creating these. I make them from new wood, old barn wood and hoping my freshly cut walnut & oak will dry soon. It takes months for those woods to dry out so that will be another story for later.

Here are the new game board creations I've been busy making:

I'm calling this my windmill parcheesi game board, crafted in primitive colors of red, mustard, black & cream

Primitive Red Star Parsheesi is one of my favorite designs. You may have saw this design on my barn wood game boards.

Barn wood Primitive Parcheesi game board in black & white. I love this one it's one of my current favorites!

Let me know what you think!

Plastic grocery bag holder - toilet paper cover

noreply@blogger.com (Wanda) — Wed, 23 Jan 2013 04:54:00 +0000

Plastic grocery bag holder dispenser will recycle plastic bags and look wonderful in your kitchen, laundry room, bath storage, or any other room that you need to keep plastic bags stored in style.

I like most people don't have a lot of cabinet space so with that in mind I have designed multifunctional covers that can cover any number of things such as 5lb bags of flour, meal, sugar, toilet paper, paper towels and any other item that I like to keep handy & hidden.

Covers also have multi-use of covering 4 rolls of toilet paper cover bath tissue cover. I think this will also fit over a roll of paper towels that's not in use yet?

Heath-Clift test the new Postal service limits for flat rate boxes. I'm not sure why he would want to be shipped anywhere other than our home. Thank goodness for us he didn't fit and now we will hope he don't find a bigger box!

Game Boards, Board Games, & Marble Games

noreply@blogger.com (Wanda) — Thu, 08 Nov 2012 15:32:00 +0000

My passion is Primitives or time worn looking items that I may have loved as a child while visiting with my grandmothers. Both of my grandmothers were country people both living through the depression which I'm sure shaped how they perceived life and shared in the simple joys of making a lot of their goods used in their daily lives. They both gardened, sewed, quilted, both seemed to putter around in cotton dresses made by them.

I guess your asking what this has to do with game boards & marble games? Well my grandmother on my mothers side would play cards, board games, had a big jar of old marbles. We're not talking fancy store bought, we're talking about mostly checkers on an old board well that looks like some of my wooden game boards and beautiful marbles, some handmade I'm sure.

Granny T taught me how to play marble games in the dirt. You want find many kids in the dirt today. Back then we had play clothes that stayed stained from being on our knees or backside sitting in a clear dirt area. I remember the ground was hard packed with just a little dust. I guess from all those marble games she coached from her chair. She would sometimes get down there with me. I guess she couldn't resist being involved in a game.

I spent a lot of summers next door with her. I would hit her up to play checkers with me. Of course she had a daily routine that usually included, breakfast, wash dishes, laundry, lunch, more dishes, work in the garden or flower beds, but late in the afternoon around 4 it was time to take her rocker out under a shade tree if it was nice and admire her flower beds. That's when she would take the time to play checkers. This was her wind down, maybe even quality time spent with me watching the checker board and occasionally staring off into the close flower garden to see butterflies move from one flower to the next. She would always challenge me, no this was not one of those Grannies that let you win.

So I guess you could say every time I cut a new game board, sand, paint, or cut holes in a new creation My Granny T is probably on my mind. I see her blue eyes with her bobbed hair thinking strategy to beat me at this lovely game of checkers on this lovely summer afternoon, when times were much simpler and time was made for a game and enjoyed!

Today for me as I head out to my work shop on my mind are the memories of Granny T and how she shaped my love for Board Games, Marbles, & Wooden Game Boards and maybe even sparked my competitive nature. To see my wooden game board creations, checker boards, Parcheesi, Chinese checkers visit Sunrise Acres Farm Primitives.

Hatfield - McCoy History Channel TV Series

noreply@blogger.com (Wanda) — Wed, 29 Aug 2012 06:19:00 +0000

Well I finally got to watch the Hatfield McCoy history channel 3 part DVD series. I couldn't stop at the 1st part, it kept me up until late into the night. I don't usually get that involved in a series but this was definitely worth the time to see it. Plus got to spend a little quality time on the couch with the hubby (not often) finally something that interest us both.

Fact or Fiction? entertaining? very! worth the time? yes I thoroughly enjoyed the series and think Kevin Costner did a great job.

Can't help but think about how my own relatives lived during the days just after the civil war. I was fortunate to grow up in a family that lived from the land and passed some of their old customs on down the generations. My Grandmother taught me how to grow a garden with not much more than a hoe, can vegetables with boiling water canner and of course make soap the old way from pig fat. Now those are some dying ways of life with modern technology. Most of the things she had taught me have evolved over the years to suit the times.

My Mother called today and ask if I could send a handmade bonnet to Aunt Mary in Georgia. She's in her late 90's and still has her wits about her. I think I'll plan a trip with Mom soon to visit with her and ask what she remembers from growing up in the blue ridge mountains as a girl.

If you get a chance be sure to see the History Channels Series Hatfield & McCoys.
