14 Days to Fitness and Fashion

So what do you have to do to get a crack at Manila’s most coveted designer wardrobe?

Simply form a team of 2-8 members, and using Nestle Fitnesse’s 14-day meal plan, everyone in the team has to lose at least 2 pounds in 2 weeks. “No, 2 pounds is not that daunting, it only needs a few diet tweaks,” quips Myra Garcia. She explains that participants only need to replace breakfast and one of the main meals – either lunch or dinner--for 2 weeks. She adds that to exercise as well as eating plenty of fruits, vegetables and low-fat, carbohydrate rich foods is the best way to complement the 14-day regimen.

And as part of the challenge, participants also need to chronicle their 14-day regimen via an online “fitness diary” accessed at www.fitnesse-14days.com . The Top 10 most popular FITNESSE 14-day diaries will make it into finals.

No matter how high or low your stress levels are, a relaxing time at the spa is always a good idea for health and body. And if you want to experience pampering in another level other than just a shower and a full body massage, turn to The Spa at Bonifacio Highstreet.

It was my first time to try The Spa. One reason being their prices are a bit steeper than the normal spas I frequent. Yet, after walking in and trying most of their facilities - I know I was getting my money's worth. The service I tried is a combination massage which is around Php 820. Once you enter, you will be able to enjoy the following:

1. Jacuzzi
2. Sauna
3. Hot or Cold Shower

Of course they had me at the Jacuzzi which was spacious, filled with fresh water, and the lighting was relaxing already. When using the Jacuzzi, you'll have to take it all off and as courtesy to other users, you must shower before getting in :)

The Spa has lots of fresh warm towels for your use, and you also get complimentary drinks before or after your treatment. I would choose a non-private room which is quiet cheaper than a private one. Ladies and gentlemen have two separate areas so there is no fuss in sharing the massage rooms with ladies. Yet, when I visited The Spa - I had no companions in the shared massage area. I wanted to take photos but for the privacy of other users, taking photos is discouraged especially in the jacuzzi area.

If you have spare time and cash, The Spa is really quiet an experience. From the ambiance, to the cleanliness of everything - you'll feel you are getting a massage service inside your hotel room. They have everything from hair dryers, lotions, powder, and even the latest copies of your favorite fashion magazines. A must-try for any lady looking to relax and unwind to a whole new level!

At Kaya Korean Restaurant, I had the first taste of the newest chocolate drink endorsed by John Lloyd - Choco Lava. Surprisingly, the Choco Lava was served cold but it was as creamy as hot chocolate. According to John Lloyd who was across my table, Choco Lava is fat free and can be enjoyed without the guilt. Zero grams of fat and only 80 calories per serving :)

“I hardly ever took chocolate beverages because they’re too fattening… but with Choco Lava, I now have a choice. I can enjoy a chocolate drink na hindi ako magsisisi in the end.” I also have to note how fresh John Lloyd looks this time, better than the last time I saw him. Maybe chocolate makes him happy?

Been watching floral layered skirts sashaying their beauty on the streets. I especially like tiered ones that are available in Mango and Topshop. But how about trying floral on top rather than bottom?

This floral top is vintage and belonged to my sister Joni. During the 90's, she and my mom shopped for her college clothes and this was one of them.

It has the same "fresh" simple effect which is more adorable in loose fabrics rather than fitting ones. You can do black + floral if you don't want to look that jolly. Just can't get enough of black.

Losing Weight with Tuna

First off, a healthy disclaimer - the following are my personal ways of losing weight by consuming a healthy amount of tuna. Before using the information below, seek your doctor's approval :)

The sexiest stays sexy with San Marino Tuna

Tuna is packed with protein, a 150g serving can contain up to 6-9 grams. This is about a cup of tuna which are readily available in can. Protein as a muscle builder, makes it easier to lose weight because more muscles mean more calories burned per activity. Tuna also has less calories at around 60 calories per serving compared to other protein sources like meat. Personally, the more tuna I consume, the less I crave other types of food like sweets or desserts. It satisfies the stomach quickly and is digested periodically by the stomach.

Here are ways to lose weight with tuna:

1. Quick Tuna Sandwich in the morning - if you want to go fast and easy, grab an egg - separate the whites and pour it in a microwave safe bowl. Add your desired amount of tuna, dash a bit of pepper and salt. Pop it in the microwave in low for about a minute. Scrape the egg which would now have the tuna in it in a round shape. Place in between wheat bread and enjoy!

2. Replace rice with tuna - there are tuna variants without any flavor and you can replace rice with a cup of tuna. Consume your viand as usual, as you would with rice. This will lessen your carb intake while increasing your protein sources.

3. Or, eat your rice with tuna - if you simply cannot fathom giving up rice, mixing it with protein such as tuna will already make it healthier. The proper serving of rice is no more than a cup. There are tasty canned tuna that goes well with rice such as the new corned tuna by San Marino. San Marino corned tuna also comes in chili flavor which is more enjoyable to eat than just plain tuna. The Omega 3 content of San Marino corned tuna is 390mg more which will help in preventing heart disease and heart attacks. I find that San Marino tuna also has less oil and simply more tuna in every can.

Eat your tuna after a rigorous activity or exercise, your muscles will absorb them even faster for ultimate muscle building and calorie burning power.

Getaway Dinner at Ascott Hotel - Cafe on the 6th

I had the pleasure of experiencing what Ascott Hotel tucks under it's sleeves. From shopping at Glorietta which is just next door to Ascott, magically I was transported into a peaceful, cozy, luxurious yet casual environment. Meeting me on the Cafe on the 6th (because it is on the 6th floor of Ascott Hotel) where hungry friends eager to taste the dishes of Ascott's resident chef, Chef Dennis.

Laid back appetizers: chips, fish, and tempura in 3 different sauces

The Cafe on the 6th is perfect for a romantic date without disruptions. I mean, unlike any other restaurants, it is very unlikely to bump into friends here. One, because many are intimidated by the sight of hotel restaurants and two, everyone thinks the place is expensive. Let's make this our little secret shall we? The prices of Cafe on the 6th are the same as any casual diners where main dishes are priced between Php 350 - Php 450 and steaks at Php 1,000 +++. The bonus point lies on the ambiance, the view of the city skyline, and most importantly - the live piano music. Dining here is a great escape from the usual hustle and fastpaced setting of other places.

Ascott Hotel's Boneless Chicken Adobo

Spicy Caldereta

Cafe on the 6th serves both International and Filipino dishes. I had chicken adobo served with atchara and their special Beef Caldereta with spikes of spicy chilis. One thing I noticed about the food here is how they prepare Filipino dishes with a twist. Like I normally expect my adobo to be saucy but this time, the Chicken Adobo was not served with any sauce. Garlic flakes topped the meat which is tasty but without the oily texture of Adobo. The Caldereta was also the same, minimal sauce but big on spice - making you want even more.

Friends ordered Fish and Chips, Angus Rib Eye steaks, and Back Ribs. My eyes were wandering on their plates really. The cafe serves favorite sparkling water like Perrier and San Pellegrino. Dishes simply taste better when sparkling water cleans the palette.

First Grade Meaty Goodness!

Say you are on a diet and really want to impress your date, here's my advice: try their Organic Cheese Platter with shavings of multiple types of cheeses like pecorino and goat cheese. This is served with organic wheat flakes and olives. Look how sexy this plate is.

Also available is the Ascott Salad dressed with goat cheese.

Never choose between food and ambiance because Cafe on the 6th has both. Stay tuned for a preview of one of the best hotel rooms in Ascott, ever!

Everyone is hooked! At least frozen yogurt is a healthy way to enjoy dessert which includes live micro organisms. Everywhere I go, I am always on the look out for a yogurt break. To make it easier for you, I've listed down some branches I have discovered that you can easily visit while shopping.

In Ayala Center:

1. White Hat in Greenbelt 5 - they have magazines and books including Rachel Zoe's style book. The place also has lots of sitting options including comfy couches so you can enjoy your yogurt right there.

2. Yoh-Gurt Froz (Froyo) in Greenbelt 5 - no sitting options so this is the place to go if you want to take out some froyo.

3. Red Mango in Greenbelt 3 - super nice place, you can enjoy your yogurt al fresco overlooking the rest of Greenbelt or stay comfy inside their spacious shop.

In Mall of Asia:

1. Yoh-Gurt Froz (Froyo) kiosk at the Food Court - they only serve flavored yogurt and no plain yogurts here. Enjoy this with free wifi care of SM Mall of Asia, just have a sit at the food court.

2. White Hat Entertainment Mall, SM Mall of Asia - this store is smaller than that in GB 5 and they have around 3 tables outside where you can enjoy your yogurt.

Welcome back to the Victorian Era! Headbands have been making a come-back ever since Gossip Girl. But when everyone is donning a big bow on their heads like Minnie Mouse, you can enjoy a more sophisticated style of hair accessories.

Big ribbons and bows are over, entering the scene are padded or feathered headbands. The most elusive designs are those with a faux peacock feather, so elusive that some just decide to make them from scratch. You can make your own feathered headband just by gathering a plain headband, glue gun, backing fabric, and feathers. All of which are readily available in department stores in Manila.

When I personally went to SM Department Store to get my materials, I was taken aback when I saw these:

Now we don't have to make our own when each headband and mini hats with veils only cost around Php 250. In Multiply stores, headbands are kind of overpriced as well as in other shops that I have checked out.

These hair accessories can either spell sophisticated or if not worn properly, they could appear like a circus on your head. However, it's great to grab them now before they are off the racks. Perfect for super parties or when you just feel melodramatic :)

The background is so pink it almost makes me happy! This is just the third time I am wearing the high-waisted skirt because I found it difficult to pair. Note to self: white is widening.

Yet, it's already in my closet so might as well have fun with it. Paired it with a yellow blouse with puffed sleeves and golden ballerina flats.

Pastel colors with white seem to work quiet well...

Blame it on Rachel Zoe, ever since I started watching her show - I've been itching to get eye-catching cocktail rings. She's right when she said that every woman needs at least one big cocktail ring and that we can look at flea markets or antique shops to acquire one.

Guess where I got this ring :)

Around two weeks ago, I mentioned how cocktail rings similar to Rachel's and The Hills stars are available from Forever 21. You'd have to ship them from the US though and order them online which is a bit of a hassle.

Yesterday, I dedicated part of my day to a cocktail ring pilgrimage and here's a list of where to get them, finally! Thank me later for window shopping 3 hours straight ;)

1. Mango - new designs are just starting to show up. They cost around Php 1,200++ although the rings went on sale before and were just sold for around Php 300!

2. Aldo - same price as Mango, really eye-popping antique looking cocktail rings. However, some ring designs are too wide rather than having an oval shape.

3. SM Department Store - you'll be surprised how you'll find antique rings (the salesladies know them better as antique rings not cocktail rings) that are super almost the same as those in Mango and Aldo. Price? Php 200 - Php 900. Better get the Onyx semi-precious cocktail rings that are sold in the jewelry section for around Php 900.

4. People are People - you can spot one or two cocktail rings here for around Php 350

5. Flea Markets like those in Ali Mall - no stones but cocktail rings sell for around Php 150

6. Kultura - Php 145 made of beads, stones, capiz, and some are wooden for a native twist.

It's challenging to purchase the one ring to rule them all. One, some rings have the design you want but not in your size. Some designs, you'd want to be set vertically rather than horizontally. Hence, just close your eyes and if it feels right then make it yours :)
