I wasn't quite sure that these tunes went together at one point and almost scraped it but I think it works and there are some truly great tracks on this. I sincerely hope you have enjoy this sampler issue of Sturban, which is crammed with exclusive interviews, reviews adn rundowns on various scenes around the UK. I have been thinking about curating this magazine for years and for no other reason that to spread ideas and information. If you would like to be a part of the next issue we are looking for contributors for sections (4 times per year) or if you just want to produce a one off article that is cool.

We are all so thinking of including a gallery section in the next issue so feel free to submit images that you have taken that you find funny, interesting or just wrong.

I hope we got this sampler right it was a learning curve for all of us involved and we’d love to see you in the next issue.

In co-ordination with Beijing’s Design Week, Converse hosted Off Canvas. Off Canvas was Converse’s inspiring street-level exhibition of typography in areas of Beijing that have a strong connection with China’s thriving creative subcultures. The project pulled together five other typographic talents from both Europe and China; Benny Luk, Ying Yonghui, Nod Young, Neils Shoe Meulman and Ben Eine to each create site specific installations in their chosen media from the diverse worlds of graphic design, art, and graffiti.

It was about time for another podcast from me and as I lost my hard-drive and can't be bothered to re-load all the tracks I am in a weird and restricted place, but I have chosen the best tracks from what I have and here we have Reggaefied. I almost thought this was going to be another Foundation Podcast but all these dubstep remixes of classic reggae tracks kept popping up so it's not reggae it's not dubstep it's Reggaefied, enjoy. I must apologise for the mixing and one of the tracks the bass is way out of control but I'm no dj I dont make my money from music I just love it so pls just enjoy, feel free to comment or like and if you can do better or worse (make me look good) feel free to join in.

Fresh 2 Def formed in 2008 producing a unique clothing line which has helped them establish ourselves in a very competitive and creative market.

For the 9th Cut release, and the first of 2012, Existance (the talented Louis Hunt from Oxford) brings us a 3-track selection of deep dubstep-influenced tracks.

Taking a clear nod from the classic sound of dubstep, as well as continuing the emotive sounds of our existing Cut catalogue, Louis brings us three excellent pieces from the vocal-led "Miles Apart" to the piano-driven bliss of Pelennor Fields.

His sample, synth, bass and drum selections fit very well together, and his ear for a great melody and strong but not overbearing bassline is evident on the EP.

After the bleak mid-winter and artists not wanting to get lost in the race for naff record to make the Xmas charts ppl are back on the grind and putting out tunes. Here we have one of my personal favs Bristol dubstep producer and Tectonic label boss Pinch.

In advance of is release 16 Jan he's recorded a shorter mix of newer material, which is available to stream below. Cheekily titled the 'Oh No Not Another Dubstep DJ Playing House Music' mix, it's largely composed of new, very bassy house and techno tracks.

This was passed for my attention I know nothing about the guy or the download but I did check him out on Youtube and it sounded OK and I checked his Facebook and this is what it said:-

Skream's long been one of the most prolific dubstep producers within the scene, to the extent that over the last couple of years he's released a series of Freeizm download compilations as something of a hard-drive purging exercise. On Christmas Day he gave away, Freeizm History, eleven of his long sought after unreleased tracks from 2004-2006. Which makes it nearly an hour of fantastic, ocean-deep and experimental music a million miles from the robot wobbles and trance bursts of some of his more recent work.

Joy Orbison ha formed a new label new label to be known has Hinge Finger, which will be a joint venture with Trilogy Tapes boss Will Bankhead. Will Bankhead formerly of the clothing brand Park Walk formed in Tokyo and in 2002 established Answer clothing with long time friend Emmet Keane and now Trilogy Tapes.
