WALK FOR ANIMALS

This Saturday (the 18th) we will be at the

Nevada Humane Society's Walk For Animals.

We will be there to represent "cat people" and will have a booth filled our cat toys and some paintings.

If you can make it out to this event you MUST! It is an amazing feeling being surrounded by close to a thousand people all there to show their support for the homeless animals of our community. You will get an overwhelming warm fuzzy feeling!!!

Be sure to stop by our booth and say 'ello.

We will be donating 10% of our sales to Nevada Humane Society for that day.

As a part of “Big Cat, Small Cat” ad campaign for Whiskas, they Photoshopped cats into wildlife photos. Here are their series of funny images showing tiny domestic cats chasing after antelopes, zebras, elephants and doing other “big cat” stuff.

UGLY KITTY

There is no such thing as an ugly kitty!

And to prove it, Quasi has turned the word ugly into

something beautiful.

Quasi was adopted by his loving mom Renee, from a shelter in Annapolis, MD in October of 2005. While no one officially knows the origin of his “look.” The general theory is that he has a cleft lip that never got corrected and connects to his eyes. Quasi can see fine out of the one, but not so well out of the other. He also has a difficult time smelling since he has some sinus issues. Quasi can hear perfectly though..... hearing a crinkly wrapper from two floors up!

Renee and Quasi formed My UglyKitty! in June of 2006. Initially as a way to exercise their creative minds. But over the years and after seeing how people responded to Quasi, they started focusing more on charity and awareness. They set up the UglyKitty Fund in October 2006 to raise money for cats in need.

This beauty is ILean. She is also a special needs kitty with only three legs. ILean was adopted by Renee and has joined Quasi's cause!

GET A SECOND OPINION

Have you ever found yourself in a predicament with your vet having a gut feeling that the diagnosis they just gave you about your cats health is off target? Who are you to be questioning a doctor? You are your cats guardian.... that is who! If you have a hunch that your vet is mistaken you MUST get a second opinion.

Maybe the second vet will concur with the first diagnosis after all. And then you will know that gut feeling was just your heart breaking into pieces and falling into the pit of your stomach. But what if that second vet finds conflicting results? Then your intuition could have just saved your cat's life.

Here are two stories as examples....

This handsome gent is Frizbee. He was one of our beloved fur kids who passed away many years ago. Frizbee was one hundred percent lover. He did not have a mean bone in his sweet little body. He was a magnificent cat and had a tinny tiny meow.

At one point in his life, Frizbee started to loose weight. He had no symptoms of any illness and was eating well but just could not keep weight on. The vet we took him to diagnosed him with FIV+ and prescribed a regiment of medication that would as he said... "will make him worse before it makes him better".

The entire situation drew up a red flag. That gut feeling surfaced but we felt awkward in questioning the doctors opinion. He was a doctor after all! But the medication was making Frizbee seriously ill. We stopped the medication and got a second opinion.

Turns out that our little man did not have FIV+. His body was just having a hard time retaining the nutrition he needed from his food. With a new diet he was right as rain in a few months. Frizbee lived 18 very happy and healthy years.

The hunky guy you see below is Jack. He lives with Mary in Rhode Island. Mary is a dedicated cat advocate and a long time supporter of Binky Cat Toys.

Jack was at a shelter Mary was assisting at. The vet first treated Jack toxoplasmosis for six months with Clindamycin, which he hated and drooled with every dose. Mary said it was an awful situation. Then Jack was tested again when there was a potential adoption to see if his toxoplasmosis was "chronic" or "active". The vet recommended that Jack be euthanized rather than adopting him to someone who might ever have an immune deficiency.

None of this made sense to Mary so she took Jack home. She brought Jack to her own well-loved vet, stood him on the floor, and asked her vet what he thought. The vet's first answer was "cerebellar hypoplasia", confirming what Mary thought all along.

"Everyone has a place in the world", and Jack's is to help me clean litter boxes twice a day...he does a mighty fine job of it, too...", says Mary.

Mary had saved Jack's life by getting a second opinion. Cerebellar hypoplasia is a non-progressive, non-contagious neurological condition that results in walking and balance problems. Cats with CH are not in pain and will have a normal life expectancy.

Of course there are countless amazing dedicated vets who know their stuff and will not take your cat's life lightly. But it is ok for your to question diagnosis. It is ok for you to get a second opinion. Not asking could be a grave mistake.

BIGGER FUN

The regular size is around 15" x 14" and the new BIG size is 19" x 17 1/2". Of course sizes and shape vary slightly.

YODA THE CAT

This adorable fella is Yoda. And yes his ears are real!

Yoda was born with an extra set of ears. His extra 'flaps' are separate to the base of his skull, with one placed slightly behind the other. Yet despite his unusual ears his hearing is quite normal.

Yoda was rescued by Valerie and Ted Rock of Chicago. He was one of a large litter and the owners were looking for a home for him. Valerie said: 'We were at a pub on the south side of Chicago with a group of friends when we noticed a small cage sitting on the bar and people passing around a kitten. Ted and I had just lost a cat that was our pet for over 20 years, and we were sure we were done with cats. When Yoda was passed around he reached for Ted, crawled up into the crook of his neck and fell asleep - Ted was a goner.'

The couple immediately fell for the unique little guy and asked the owner if they could adopt him. He agreed and the couple named the cat Yoda, after the Jedi knight in Star Wars.

Vets are mystified by Yoda's unique appearance. Yoda's vet had never seen anything like him before. He immediately went to the internet and found the four-eared cat in Germany.

Yoda is a perfectly normal affectionate, curious cat and is a joy to have around. Valerie explains that he is not afraid of anything, is very sociable, and has a very loud purr. 'But he does have an interesting obsession with bread - I can't leave bread on the counter for a moment.'

We think Valerie and Ted are awesome for adopting Yoda and giving this special little guy a loving home.

JACKSON

This attractive gent is Jackson. He is the Cat Of The Month at Feline Rescue Of Northern Nevada. And this is the video we made for him.

Jackson was saved from a horrible situation with such severe abuse that it almost killed him. If he didn't have the scars you would never be able to tell however.... because he is such a lover! It only took him a month to realize he was safe and to trust people again.

Jackson is a sweet and handsome cat who loves attention, head butts, and cat nip. He gets along with other cats very well and is house trained.

FRONN is hoping to find a safe and loving person who will adopt Jackson and give him the life he should have always had.... spoiled rotten and loved beyond belief everyday for the rest

of his life.

Here are some of the newest pieces in my Rescue Series of paintings.

These are all dedicated to the Nevada Humane Society.

They are a non-profit, charitable organization in Reno, Nevada. As a no-kill organization, NHS works to find homes and provide care for homeless animals, and to bring people and animals together to make Washoe County a no-kill community. This effort is funded entirely by donations, with no assistance from the government or national organizations.

When sold I will donate a portion of the proceeds to NHS to help them care for their rescued cats.

We made over 300 cat toys and other gifts, as well as some paintings for the convention. As always we will be donating a portion of our sales to Nevada Humane Society.

3rd ANNUAL CAT CONVENTION

Mark your calendars for the 3rd Annual All Things Cat - Cat Convention is coming February 9th!

The Nevada Humane Society's fabulous feline convention is an amazing event! With a cat marketplace of cat-themed art, gifts, jewelry, pottery, cat toys and more. Renowned Hollywood animal trainer Joel Silverman, host of Dog & Cat Training with Joel Silverman, will demonstrate how to train a cat. Cartoonist and creator of Pickles, Brian Crane, will be selling and signing his books from the Pickles Collection, featuring Muffin the cat and Roscoe the dog. And of course over 100 adorable cats for adoption. If you cannot adopt you can still join the fun and support the NHS for all the awesome rescue work they do for the animals of Northern Nevada.

We will have a booth there with lots of our groovy handmade Binky cat toys and stuff. And as always we will donate 10% of our sales from the event to NHS.

It is a free event and lots of fun!

SMOKEY

This is Smokey. He was recently rescued by Roxy, a co-worker of ours, but not before he rescued her first! Roxy recently had heart surgery and while recovering she would take walks in her neighborhood. Smokey, a stray at the time, would come meet her everyday and keep her company during the walks. Then one day Roxy found Smokey on her porch, he was beat up and in lots of pain. Roxy swooped him up and took him to the vet. It turns out that Smokey was abused and his jaw was broken. He was in a lot of pain and had been unable to eat. Roxy had the vet care for Smokey and then she took him home. "He got me through my surgery by walking with me everyday... how could I resist him?!" Smokey, Roxy, and Roxy's husband are all one happy family now. Smokey and Roxy are both recovering well. We set Smokey up with some Binky toys... poor little guy has been through the wars and now needs to be spoiled! It is true what they say about adopting a pet..... you are not just saving them, they save you as well. ♥
