It was an American movie classic that will be celebrated for years to come. A classic tale of two men just trying to make a difference in the world. Yes, I’m talking about White Chicks. White Chicks introduced the world to a line that was so dynamic, so major, so inspiring that it was reiterated nonstop in middle school campuses across America. Quote reiteration that was almost at Mean Girls proportions:

Super Bowl Champ wins Dancing with the Stars

You might think that after winning a Super Bowl ring that Donald Driver would kick back during the offseason.
That’s not exactly what he had in mind.
The seasoned wide receiver used his speed, agility, and finesse to take the infamous Mirrorball Trophy in this year’s Dancing with the Stars.
He beat out the likes of Martina Navratilova, Gavin DeGraw, Jack Wagner, Jaleel White, Sherri Shepherd, Melissa Gilbert, Roshon Fegan, Maria Menounos and Gladys Knight.
If you recognized more than 3 of those names, I’m impressed.
They certainly have lowered the bar on what constitutes a “star.”

Regardless, I’m happy to see a NFL superstar take the trophy-and looked pretty damn good doing it!

I can’t tell if this is a very elaborate joke, or very serious gratitude.

Either way, the ‘Thank You Facebook’ video has over 120,000 views (and more than 1,000 dislikes) on YouTube since it’s start on Mashable, and is creating quite the buzz as a theme song for Facebook’s IPO. It’s got the daytime family sitcom tune to it, with a little bit of rap thrown in for your viewing pleasure. Between the music and the lyrics (“I’m taggin’ you, you’re taggin’ me, and we’re makin’ history…” Uh, what bro?) I just can’t wrap my brain around it…or get it out of my head.

Faaacebook…I wanna thaaaank youu…for inspiring people to create these slightly awkward music videos and then blast them all over their social media.

If you ever had to read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald in high school (and actually did, and didn’t Spark Notes it) you know that the book is a real page turner. Filled with the culture of the 20s and the excitement of murder, the book has made it’s way into classic American literature.

If you were one of the slacker students who Spark-Noted the book, don’t worry, you now will have your turn to experience the greatness you missed out on. Actors like Leonardo Dicaprio, Tobey McGuire and Carey Mulligan star in this book-to-tv movie of 2012. You can catch Gatsby in theaters this year around Christmas.

Don’t worry, I’m sure Tobey McGuire’s acting will be better than he was in Spiderman. If not you can just do what I do and drool over Leonardo Dicaprio throughout the length of the film.

After finally recovering from every festival possible (SXSW, Coachella, Bonnaroo, Austin Food and Wine and Moontower), come October it’ll be time to pull on your TOMS and fill up those water bottle-pouch-things for three consecutive days of music. The Austin City Limits 2012 line-up was released at midnight and some passes have already sold out. University of Texas public affairs graduates were in for a surprise at graduation when their commencement listing program labeled them as the Lyndon B. Johnson School of ”Pubic” Affairs.

This is the LBJ school’s apology via Twitter, “Our deepest apologies to our 2012 graduates for the egregious typo in our program. We are working to distribute corrected programs.”

If any other word was misspelled, I’m sure no one would have noticed, but put PUBIC on the front page of the graduation program and all of a sudden UT makes the news. Needless to say, I’m sure next year they will not have this problem!

The First Gay President

Last Wednesday, the 9th of May, Obama announced his support of same-sex marriage. This week, continuing the 21st century, it’s-about-time progression, he was deemed “the First Gay President” in an article (and controversial cover) in Newsweek.

Of course Obama isn’t actually gay and I’m sure he truly adores Michelle, but the sensational title of “First Gay President” refers to his personal backing of the homosexual rights cause. The article, penned by Andrew Sullivan, an active gay community member, draws parallels between the outsider feeling/identity crisis Obama grew up with and the same feelings/crisis LBGTQ-identifying people possess.

This issue stance didn’t come out of left field or out of the courageous heart of a sympathetic president, but instead alongside a major tide-turning Gallup poll that found that a majority of Americans now support the legalization of gay marriage (53% to 45%) for the first time in our nation’s history. Despite these statistics, pollsters, analysts and pundits seem to be in a fervor over whether or not Obama’s “coming out” will hurt his chances come November.
