Human nature makes us believe we can handle anything on our own. Some people also still attach a stigma to the idea of therapy. I have a friend who refuses to get help for anxiety, because he’s afraid the people where he works will think “he’s going crazy”. We throw words around with little sensitivity sometimes. Odds are his coworkers would be very understanding, because they might have their own anxieties they’re dealing with on a regular basis.

No matter what level of anxiety you experience, you should try to deal with what’s causing the problem. But you definitely need therapy when you realize anxiety has reached a level where it’s controlling your life. If you have frequent panic attacks or often change your behavior to avoid having anxiety attacks, then you need therapy. Some therapies can be done on your own, but more severe cases of anxiety may require the assistance of a professional therapist. The important thing is to take the first steps to help yourself by admitting your anxiety is out of control.

I Thought I Could Do It On My Own is a post from: Stress and Anxiety Guide

Stress, which is anything that impairs the bodies balance and stability, can be caused by chemical and physical factors such as illnesses, toxins, injuries, infections, and trauma, while emotional tension and stress causes are varied and numerous. Numerous stress management techniques help people deal with stress and stress related problems, which can affect anyone, regardless of occupation or age. Every individual is unique so it is impossible to predict a person’s stress level. Many people that work in high stress jobs experience no stress related problems because they use stress management techniques while others in low stress workplaces may experience stress. Individual factors such as social relationships, physical health, traumatic events, responsibilities, and commitments have an effect on the amount of stress in people’s lives although there are some generalizations. People that have inadequate social support, sleep, nourishment, or have physical illnesses often find it difficult to handle even everyday stresses and pressures.

People that have not tried any stress management techniques and handle stress poorly often experience problems such as depression, tension and anxiety, headaches, anger, sleep disturbances, increased or decreased appetite, concentration problems, or even burnout from overwhelming stress. Psychological stress may also affect people physically and worsen or intensify the progression and symptoms of medical conditions, such as high blood pressure, chronic pain, cardiovascular disease, depression, asthma, acne, and multiple sclerosis.

Stress management techniques can help people suffering from internal stress factors such as your overall health and external stress factors including your job or home life. Some very effective stress management techniques are meditation, exercise, and time management skills. There are many types of meditation that focus on both mental and physical relaxation techniques, which quiet the body, emotions, and mind, thus releasing stress. You can learn meditation, stress management techniques by enrolling in classes, books, videos, and online tutorials. Physical exercise helps people manage tension, reduces emotional stress, while promoting total fitness, and health. If you workout at the gym, join a baseball team, play hockey, or go jogging, physical activity gives you an outlet to take your mind off your problems, while becoming stronger and more fit. Exercise makes you feel better about yourself and increases your self worth and self esteem. Competitive exercise or team sports are excellent stress management techniques because you learn to function as a team member, cope with stress and deal with defeat and victory. Time management teaches you organizational skills, which reduces stress, especially in the workforce. Stress management techniques help people deal with today’s busy lifestyle.

Meditation, Exercise, and Other Stress Management Techniques is a post from: Stress and Anxiety Guide

And the only way to find an anxiety cure is to identify all the factors that trigger stress and anxiety. It is important that you find out if it is possible to find an anxiety cure by yourself or if you have to resort to drugs and medications to cure stress.

Jot down all triggering factors that contribute to your anxiety and rate them according to their influences. By identifying and indexing these factors, you can address them on a priority basis and find a suitable remedy for each factor.

If you have many commitments in your day to day life, you will find it difficult to deal with the pressures of work, school and relationships. In such situations, the best methods of anxiety cure would be to listen to some of your favorite music, reading a book, taking a day off, sitting in the garden and perhaps, watching your favorite cartoon.

Though these methods may seem to be too simple to the analytical mind, on integrating these activities to your daily routine, you will find them to be quite relaxing. Furthermore, you will also tend to look at the world and your responsibilities with a different perspective.

Include lots of green, leafy vegetables and multi vitamins in your diet as these are known food for anxiety cure. Anxiety will never disappear with a diet of sugary junk food or greasy food. Eating the right food will have positive effects on your body, and it is only with the right food, exercise, rest and meditation that you will get the anxiety cure you need.

Yoga is a great anxiety cure that will help you break your body’s habits. With meditation and yoga, you will surely find that your mind will experience a lot of relief from stress. Avoid or at least limit your consumption of alcohol as it is an intoxicant that stimulates your brain to be overactive.

A good night’s sleep is the best anxiety cure. Make it a point to get at least 7 hours of sleep everyday. You should also maintain good family and work relationships by weeding out all the differences and negative feelings you have with your family members and colleagues. With this, you will find it easier to reduce anxiety levels in your body.

Managing your anger and practicing patience in your day to day situations will also work as effective anxiety cure. For many people, it is rather difficult to acquire patience. But you can start by making gradual effort to be more patient in your actions and thoughts.

Some Tips for Anxiety Cure is a post from: Stress and Anxiety Guide

Climbing out from under the black cloud it places over a life is almost never easy. While time, patience and therapy are almost always advised, some people find prescription medications do not provide the help they are seeking. In this case, depression natural medication might be in order.

Depression natural medication does come in many forms. Some people find they are very effective for treating the most troublesome of symptoms. Still, it is almost always advised that medical intervention also take place. Unfortunately, untreated or improperly treated depression can have very severe consequences. The least of which involves a lack of real living. The worst potential outcome of this clinical illness is possible death.

Precautions For Natural Medications

When depression is certain and even diagnosed, many people do find relief in herbal and natural remedies. There are some precautions that go along with using natural medicines, however. These include:

• A need to really gauge symptoms. Making sure that depression natural medication is actually working can be very important. This is especially so if thoughts of death and suicide are present. This is why medical supervision is generally called for.
• Potential interactions. Some depression natural medication options do come with side effect potential. Some are also known to interfere or even cause serious interactions if used in conjunction with other antidepressants.
• Possible dosing problems. Several depression natural medications have been shown in studies to have a positive impact on this condition’s symptoms. Still, it is very important that patients take the right doses to ensure effectiveness.

Natural Medications For Depression

If the pros and cons are weighed and natural medication for depression is indicated, patients will find there are a number of choices available. Some of the most commonly used natural remedies for depression include:

Ginkgo biloba – This depression remedy is in common use. It can have some side effects and does interact with some medications. Seeking medical advice is a good idea when introducing this remedy for treatment of depression.

St. John’s wort – This widely used herbal medication is well known for its potential effectiveness in treating depression. It can have issues with other antidepressants and does have side effects. It is very wise to consult a physician before adding this to depression treatment. As effective as many people have found it to be, others find no relief from taking this herb.

Ginseng – Certain forms of ginseng have also proven useful in the treatment of depression. Few side effects are known, but medical advice is still in order.

Harsh antidepressants are not for everyone. When a natural route is preferred, patients with clinical depression do have some options at their disposal. Depression natural medication can have very positive results, but it is often strongly urged that patients seek a holistic treatment path to ensure the symptoms are well controlled and potential complications are avoided.

Depression Natural Medication Provides An Alternative is a post from: Stress and Anxiety Guide

Fears of scrutiny, rejection, ridicule and even failure can plague those with this condition. In many cases, they shun social situations all together and avoid living life to its fullest. When overcoming the symptoms and getting on with life matters, doctors often prescribe patients social phobias anxiety medications. Several classes of medication can make a very big impact on keeping the symptoms of this condition in check so people can get on with their lives.

In many cases, social phobias anxiety medications are also the same prescriptions used to treat depression. Two major classes of anti-depressants are used to treat social phobias – Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors and Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor antidepressants.

Understanding SSRIs

Social phobias anxiety medications in the SSRI class work by preventing the neurotransmitter serotonin from reabsorbing into certain cells in the brain. This leaves more serotonin in the brain. Issues with this particular neurotransmitter have been connected with anxiety disorders and depression both.

SSRIs are commonly marketed under several brand names. Social phobias anxiety medications such as Prozac and Zoloft are SSRIs.

Understanding MAOIs

Like SSRIs, MAOIs work by inhibiting chemical activity in the brain. In this case, MAOI social phobias anxiety medications stop the breakdown of monoamine, leaving more of it in the brain. This particular class of social phobias anxiety medications is useful for treating depression, social phobia disorders and a number of other mental health concerns.

MAOIs include several different names of drugs. They include Aurorix, Nardil and Marplan.

Why Medications Are Important

Social phobias anxiety medications are generally only one prong of an overall treatment plan for this type of condition. Since social phobias tend to get worse if they are untreated, but can often be overcome if they are, medication and therapy are both seen as crucial.

Therapy is generally used to help give people suffering from social phobias the tools they need to cope and overcome. Medications are used to help people cope with symptoms in the short-term, so they are more free to undergo needed therapy.

During therapy, patients quite often also undergo some type of self-esteem building exercises. This can be an important aspect of dealing with social phobias.

Social phobias anxiety medications are considered valuable tools in the treatment of this type of condition. When constant fears of rejection, failure, scrutiny and more plague a person and make that person avoid interaction, quality of life diminishes. It is believed that the prevalence of child anxiety attacks is much more and can lead to depression later on in the teenage years or young adulthood. Children experiencing anxiety attacks feel many of the same symptoms adults feel in their own anxiety attacks. Child anxiety attacks experience both psychological and physical symptoms.
Child anxiety attacks start with a feeling of dread, worry and fear. Many children have these feelings regularly but when these symptoms become severe and often with accompanying physical symptoms it becomes a problem. Some of the physical symptoms that children feel are headaches, nausea, sweating, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, feel a tightening in the chest, stomach ailments such as diarrhea and stomach upset.
Child anxiety attacks can also effect children’s concentration and ability to stay in school. Children who experience regular anxiety attacks have a hard time making decisions and learning. Their perception of their environment is quite different from other children which can affect the way that the child acts in social situations.
Child anxiety attacks may be due to many different forms of anxiety disorders such as Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Acute Stress Disorder, Social phobia and specific Phobia, Adjustment Disorder with Anxiety, Drug Induce Anxiety Disorder, Anxiety Disorder NOS (not otherwise specified). Many of these disorders involve the child having overwhelming anxiety over many different situations and objects. The child may experience worry and fear over specific objects or experience uncontrollable anxiety in social situations.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is when someone must perform the same behavior repeatedly or have the same thoughts. This can lead to anxiety since the behaviors usually prevent the person from living their daily life. Posttraumatic Stress Disorder is when someone has been through a traumatic event and has trouble recovering from the event. This person will relive the moment in their mind and experience the reactions (physical and psychological) associated with the moment. It’s like going through the same nightmare many times. Child anxiety attacks can also be due to medications. Some medications can cause anxiety so it is important for the child’s doctor to know the medications the child is taking. It is also believed that some children experience anxiety attacks due to the hormones of puberty.

Child anxiety attacks can be helped just as adult anxiety attacks are handled. Children will need to seek medical attention and a therapist. The doctor will be able to determine if the child is in need of medication. A therapist will be able to teach the child effective coping skills to decrease fear and worry in anxiety provoking situations. Some children have other issues they must address before working on their anxiety disorder and a therapist would be able to help with that through many different techniques.

Child Anxiety Attacks is a post from: Stress and Anxiety Guide

They want to excel personally. They want to make their parents proud. They might even be trying to impress friends. Whatever the case, if the pressure is turned up a notch, test anxiety might result.

Test anxiety is generally considered a very normal occurrence. Almost anyone who has ever taken tests can recall at least one instance where fear of failure led to incredible cram sessions, incessant rewriting of notes and even a complete “blanking” out on knowing the answers. In most cases test anxiety is very normal and fairly easy to overcome. In some instances, however, test anxiety is the manifestation of an actual anxiety disorder.

“Normal” test anxiety can present with symptoms such as sweaty palms, an overall sense of malaise and a fear of not performing well. In most cases, students can overcome the problems by taking a few measures before a test. Some techniques for overcoming normal test anxiety include:

• Pacing study rather than cramming
• Taking practice exams
• Deep breathing prior to an exam
• Self-affirmations prior to a test
• Obtaining extra tutoring before a big exam, if problems are present with the material. A little extra boost of help can go a long way toward alleviating fears.
• Talking out fears with friends or family

Unfortunately, for some students test anxiety does go beyond the norm. If the symptoms are also accompanied by extreme fear, heart palpitations, physical pain, insomnia and other such signs, a more serious anxiety disorder could be present. This is especially the case if symptoms appear in other circumstances or they repeatedly present prior to tests. In many cases, the relaxation techniques for normal test anxiety will not have a major impact on a person who is suffering from full-blown anxiety disorder.

If an actual anxiety disorder is suspected, it is smart for a person to seek medical advice. There are treatments available to help people overcome the symptoms and lead lives free of abnormal anxiety and panic. Should the anxiety disorder go beyond just test anxiety, it is typically imperative for a person to seek help. Anxiety disorders can completely waylay lives if they are left unchecked.

Test anxiety is a fairly normal occurrence. Almost everyone experiences it at some point in life. If the problem is particularly severe, persists or its symptoms begin to show up in other performance-based or social situations, help is worth seeking out. There is no reason for a person with test anxiety or any other form of anxiety that is severe to go it alone.

Test Anxiety Is Not An Uncommon Occurrence is a post from: Stress and Anxiety Guide

The responsibilities of nurses who practice mental health nursing require them to undergo additional training to cover the different aspects of psychiatric care. They have to undergo studies that pertain to psychiatric medication, psychological therapies and other mental health nursing knowledge requirements.

In the US, the practice of mental health nursing is actually divided into three areas. There are designations assigned to these mental health nursing practitioners, namely the licensed vocational nurse, also called the licensed practical nurse, the licensed psychiatric technician and the registered psychiatric nurse. Just like in regular nursing, mental health nursing also has certain rules regarding the limits that these nurses have in terms of duties.

The licensed practical nurses in mental health nursing basically have the same responsibilities that their regular nursing counterparts have, which is limited to the dispensing of medication and the assisting of the registered psychiatric nurses and the physicians who are attending to these patients. The same goes for the licensed psychiatric technician who also assists in the gathering of information on the psychiatric patients that they handle. A registered psychiatric nurse is often given more responsibilities than the practical nurse due to the longer period of time needed to become a nurse and the more extensive study they had to go through to get their Registered Nurse designation.

When a person wishes to enter the world of mental health nursing, they may do so by studying to become a licensed practical nurse. They can do this by training for a year or two in the aspects that cover nursing, like anatomy, patient care, pharmacology and physiology. Before they do undergo practical nursing training, they have to be at least a high school graduate to qualify. The national boards are then taken and must be passed before they can get the license to practice.

Mental health nursing is an area of nursing that requires utmost patience and understanding. The people who practice it or want to practice it should also possess superior interpersonal skills as well as the ability to create bonds with their patients to further help them with their mental health issues, also called therapeutic relationships. If a person does not possess any of these unique personality traits that should be part of a psychiatric nurse’s package, it would be pretty difficult for them to adjust to the challenges that mental health nursing will bring.

Mental Health Nursing and How to Become a Mental Health Nurse is a post from: Stress and Anxiety Guide

Without stress, workers cannot meet deadlines, strive to achieve required sells required for the job, or meet satisfaction of the clients. Meeting the demands of a job makes the work interesting and satisfying and often allows people to develop their skills and achieve promotion. People regularly experience stress-causing situations in the workplace. They react to these events with tension and then come back to a more relaxed condition when it is over.

Stressors In The Workplace

In the workplace, stress can usually cross from normal to excessive. Excessive stress can activate physical and emotional reactions that can be detrimental to employees and business alike.

Some jobs especially those that include physical strength like firefighting or those involve in maintaining justice are very stressful. Other jobs like teaching or social work that are physiologically demanding can also be stressful and even people who crunch numbers or stamp metal can experience stress.

Workplace stress can be caused by several factors, some of which may include: unsupportive working environment, high demands of the job, or poor organizational communication.

Sudden change in the workplace can cause employees develop a fear of being fired. Frequent personnel turnover, poor chances of promotion, lack of preparation for technological changes can also become the stress factor for the employees.

Some work stress factors may include: too much workload, dull or worthless tasks, lengthy hours of work and small pay, unreasonable performance demands and rare rest breaks. However the physical environment of the workplace like noise and overcrowding, poor air quality, health and safety risks can also cause stress to the workers.

Supervisors that are distant and uncommunicative are walking stressors. Meager performance from subordinates can also cause stress to supervisors. Staff members also create their own stress by developing office politics, competition, bullying or harassment.

Health Risks Of Stress In The Workplace

A link between workplace stress and physical or emotional problems exist. Early signs of job stress include: sleep disturbances, stomach problems, trouble in concentration, irritability, headache, low morale, and poor affairs with family members and friends. These signs are simple to distinguish, but without proper management, they can develop into severe health risks like cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal conditions and psychological disorders.

Work Stress Reduction

Managers and employers can reduce stress at work by providing stress management programs and training for workers and improvement in the working conditions.
There are programs that are intended to aid employees with personal problems that may be disturbing their job performance. Also, they may consist of counseling, mental health assessments, workshops on managing their time, ways of relaxing and assistance both legally and financially. The relief provided by these programs may be shallow and brief if the roots of stress in the work setting are not tackled.

Creating a healthy working environment can create a lasting stress relief of the workers. Encouraging employee participation, implementation of policies that includes the needs of the workers are some of the ways to provide a better working environment.

Employees can also reduce their job stress by getting a job description. A specific job description provided by the employer provides the basic guidelines and expectations for the performance of the employee. If the is becoming too stressful, maybe it is time for the employee to look for a more suitable job or ask if the company could modify the job to suit the employee’s skill.

Getting support from the local, state or federal agencies can lessen work stress by providing the employees the backing they need to keep them from hazardous situations in the workplace.

Workplace Stress Management is a post from: Stress and Anxiety Guide

Self-esteem is how you feel and think about yourself as opposed to how you view others. Self-esteem is the perception you have of yourself and your abilities. It’s unfortunate that many people don’t understand their true value as a human being and their real potential or capabilities. In a nutshell, anxiety and fear holds them back from appreciating themselves.

Unrelenting anxiety can cause damage in so many ways. It can stop you from attempting things you want to try. It can make you feel as is life holds promise for others but not you. Anxiety can make you fearful to take advantage of your talents. It can also cause you to have mistaken beliefs about the world and interpersonal relationships.

One of the treatments for anxiety disorder focuses on improving self-esteem and correcting mistaken beliefs that create worry and distress on an ongoing basis. This is a form of cognitive therapy that helps a person learn how to change their thoughts and view of themselves. It’s about changing attitudes. Believing you can fulfill your personal dreams may sound a bit trite on the surface, but it’s essential for a normal and healthy psyche.

Anxiety disorder can be treated through a self-help program that teaches you how to change your attitude about your capabilities for achievement. When you view the world as something that serves to prevent you from succeeding, then that’s precisely what it will do. If you view the world as a place that enables you to fulfill your dreams and display your capabilities, then the possibilities are endless.

Enhancing self-esteem is a common technique used to treat anxiety disorder because much anxiety comes from worrying about non-existent problems. It’s called the “what-if” syndrome. You can worry about what will happen if you attempt to meet new people, change jobs or become assertive. Or you can have faith in your ability to cope with change and other people’s reactions.
