Webster defines promote as “to raise or move forward to a higher level or better position, to further the growth of something, or to work actively, stirring up interest in an idea or concept.”

Promotion is Power!

Any great leader or manager or coach should be a great promoter.  A promoter of themselves, a promoter of their systems, and a promoter of the self-image growth of others.

We should loudly champion those things that are right about our system, while silently going about changing those things that are wrong.  Doing this the other way around is a dangerous and destructive avenue to take that should carefully be avoided.

In sports, as athletes we should promote our coaches, our administrators, our managers.  We should be promoting all that is great about our nation not gossiping about what is wrong, but trying to improve things.  In business we should be praising the industry, the profession, the company, the product, as well as all those you work with and for.

Great advancements are never achieved alone.  Everyone involved should be praised and encouraged so they can function at their best; producing their best results.  You will always find this to be a most powerful foundation for growth and improvement to take place.

Who To Promote and How

What about self-promotion?
Do not expect anyone to think well of you if you are not willing to think well of yourself.  You do not need to boast about yourself.  But you should boldly accept the praise of others and silently and consistently encourage yourself.

An excellent way to promote inner growth is by feeding your mind with positive information.  Read motivational books listen to motivational speakers.  Find the time to invest in reading books on self-improvement, positive thinking, and personal growth.  This is a great way to take into your possession the success of the authors!

Let your mind be an overflowing bank account full of positive truths to change you and the people around you.

For teachers coaches and parents it is their primary task to build self-image in others.  Encouraging them helps them to discover and push the limits to find out and be all they can be.  These simple steps will help promote that growth.

a) Make eye contact whenever listening or speaking to someone.  This helps to build them up be revealing you are concerned and attentive to them.  Just like looking away will tear them down.  Simply making eye contact shows you place high value on those you are speaking with.

b) Be very careful about nicknames.  Be certain if using one that it builds up and does not tear down. This can either aid or hinder someone’s progress.

c) Correct in private, praise in public. Yelling at someone in public only tears down and destroys their self-image. But praising someone publicly will help to build their self-image.

d) Always praise more than you correct.  Corrections can be made in a timely and tactful manner.  But it is the praising that promotes positive self-image.  So you must do this more that you criticize.

e) Never limit people’s goals or steal their dreams.

f) Never give up on anyone.  It is dangerous to even present the appearance that you have given up on someone.  People will succeed in their own time. Don’t try to prematurely decide weather they can or cannot do something. This includes yourself.  Giving up on yourself will destroy your self-image faster than anything else.

Promotion is power.  Do it for your organization, do it for the people you’re around and do it for yourself.

The funny thing about excuses is they can make even the wisest of men look like a fool.

Have you ever been expecting promised results from someone when to your bewilderment they only produced excuses.  Well, no matter how well thought out or extravagant they sound to the person giving them, they always look foolish to the one on the receiving end.

As far as behavioral patterns are concerned I would say there are two categories; one produces results and the other produces excuses.  Both kinds of people are very predictable.  That’s because these are behaviors embedded in the very character of a person.  You know that if the first kind of person tells you they are on the job its as good as knowing satisfaction is guaranteed.  And of course in the very same way the second type of person no matter what they promise typically always produces to their own determent the same sorry excuses.

Excuses are a terrible type of achievement destroying cancer that ruins the potentials of all who fall victim to it’s grip.  It’s one of those character flaws or habitual deformities that not only destroys one’s future but their reputation as well.

We’ve all listened to an ear full from the people that go on and on about how no one appreciates their efforts and they work so hard but no one sees.  These are the same people that when asked about the goals they’ve achieved or the results they’ve produced there just doesn’t seem to be any significant results to show for.

Do NOT mistake your efforts for results!  Do NOT be one of those people who always has an excuse ready but no real drive to produce.

Do NOT allow excuses to destroy the potential of everything you are capable of achieving. 

Responsibility is the victorious side.  It’s never too late to cross over! Success is the inevitable result of responsible living.

Although daily motivation and inspiration are important and highly beneficial; alone, they simply lack the power to create or enable lasting success.  In fact I will go so far as to say motivation without self-discipline is discouragement waiting to happen.

Motivation is the internal condition that activates behavior and gives it direction; it energizes and directs this goal-oriented behavior.  But it is self-discipline that persists in the behavior long after the rush of enthusiasm has faded away.  Self-discipline requires diligent action according to your goals rather than just how you feel at that moment.

I would say one the most valuable gifts one could share would be teaching the art of self-discipline.

It is self-discipline that will take anyone from being a slave to being free.  It has been said, “the undisciplined are slaves to moods, appetites and passions”.  It is the undisciplined who ultimately lack the freedom that comes with possessing particular skills and abilities.

Self-discipline is freedom.  So lets talk about ways to develop it.

• First you need to decide what behavior best reflects your goals and values.  You can then discipline yourself according to what you have decided is best, regardless of how you feel in the moment.  This will require an honest self-analysis of who you are and what your values and your purposes in life are.  The best way to do this would be to write down your dreams and goals.  Short term and long term.  Like your own personal mission statement.  Remember “A goal properly set is halfway reached.” ~Zig Ziglar

• Then just as important you need make a conscious decision to follow through on what you say you’re going to do.  Both when you said you would do it and how you said you would do it.  This is the key to seeing your project through to completion when the initial rush of enthusiasm has faded away.  You can even keep track of how you do on these commitments, so you can stay accountable.  “What gets measured gets improved”.

• Train your mind to recognize the difference between what is disciplined and what is not disciplined behavior.  This way you will know when you are stepping out of bounds or going in a wrong direction.  It is important as you go after your dreams to know the difference and correct yourself consistently.  This will help you create these good habits that will lead you toward your goals.  As you develop your self-discipline, being aware of these differences will help you make decisions that are in better alignment with your goals and values.  “The real test in golf and in life is not in keeping out of the rough, but in getting out after you are in.”  Ok that was good ol Zig Ziglar again.

• Be a good coach to yourself.  Encourage and reassure yourself when the going gets tough.  Remind yourself why you are doing this.  Reinforce your commitment to what lies ahead.  When there is doubt or lack of motivation or any of the wrong emotions creeping in, be your own motivational speaker.  Remind yourself that the price of discipline is always less than the pain of regret.

• Finally, have courage to face the challenges that lie ahead.  Developing self-discipline is a great and worthy challenge.  The flesh and its appetites and moods are powerful forces to go up against.  Recognizing this will help you find the courage it will take to face the challenge.  As you progress you will gather small and private victories that will enhance your self-confidence and build on this courage.

Ok, so if influence is the name of the game then social media outlets like Twitter are definitely power-houses for effective marketing.  Twitter is just such a great way to share who you are and what you’re all about with people in a natural and easy going environment.  When people like what they read they keep up with you.  It’s as simple as that.  It’s not just about making the most noise; its about playing a song worth listening to.

Lets go over some questions and ideas on how to more effectively engage on Twitter.

How do your skills measure up?
Would you consider yourself to be an active member of the Twitter community?  How often do you update and interact with your network?  Twitter is not only a megaphone for your reputation but it’s also a perfect outlet for your own intelligent thoughts.  So you should be actively tweeting but remember excessive tweeting without anything worth listening to can become a major turn off for many people.

Do the people in your network engage with you?  How often?  Are you tweeted at, cited in the context of a tweet or retweeted?  What are you tweeting about?  Is it engaging and thought provoking?  Is it inviting people to talk to you or giving them a reason to talk about you? To have people interacting or referencing you reveals authority and increases influence.

How many followers do you have?  I think the answer to this will directly reflect not only the content and ideas you put out there but also those you associate with.  How far is your handshake going?  How far are your ideas reaching?  Well, this is important.  Offering interesting content and interaction will get you more followers.  And those who have a lot of followers obviously have the advantage of leading with their ideas.  The more followers the more influence.

What level of influence and power do the people following you have? What I mean by this is what size networks do the people have that are following you?  Choose your friends wisely.  You can build a network of people who have large networks themselves and this can definitely work in your favor.  It can be a very powerful thing to have influential people following you.

Build your relationships correctly and you will expand your territory. Expand your territory right and your credibility and influence will naturally grow.  You get the picture.  It’s all about influence with a cause!

Twitter is just a fun and creative way to build networks of like-minded people whatever your purpose happens to be.

Training Your Mind To Believe

I love this!  I once heard someone say you need to create your own “Dream Team” of people that believe in you.  This is so true and so vital.  These are the people who will encourage you when you are going through challenges.

So here is the agenda of real performance.
1.  Figure out what arena your suited to play in.
2.  Have the courage to take action and get started.
3.  Have the determination to endure, and persevere, and go all the way even  when the going gets tough.
4.  Be willing to do whatever it takes for as long as it takes to get the job done.

Taking Action
Remember this is about training the mind to believe.  When you believe something is possible that gives you the courage to take action.  So read books and associate with people that increase your self-belief.  This is why constant self development is so important because it gets you to believe in yourself.

Developing Persistence
When you want something bad enough nothing will stop you.  That is how our desire drives our persistence.  When you won’t quit, success is just a matter of time.  So fuel that desire.  Surround yourself with reminders of your dream and constantly be visualizing it.

Struggles Make us Stronger
We don’t start at the top!  Great people are not just born that way.  They became great.  As in “there was a process”.  They had a dream, they took action, they refused to quit and they accomplished their dream!  This is always how it goes; dream, struggle, victory!  The good news is if your going through a struggle, don’t quit; Your on your way to victory!

You Have Everything You Need
When God gives you a dream He gives you all the resources and gifts you will need to make that dream a reality.  But you have to train your mind to believe you can do it.  Once you have the faith its up to you to do the work!

Always Follow Your Heart
Don’t listen to the people that want to steal or crush your dreams. Follow your heart go for the goal!

Walk Through Open Doors
Realize that doors of opportunity open, and they close.  Do not wait for the perfect conditions to take advantage of opportunities.  Successful people have to be ready to jump.  Seek guidance from your “Dream Team” have faith and courage and run with it!

If you’re playing the game according to the way someone else is teaching you and you’re not doing very well.  Maybe that’s because they are teaching you to play according to their own strengths.  Reevaluate and play according to yours and see how you can really propel yourself forward.

4. Don’t Lose Your Sense of Humor!
It’s not only a great back up plan but it’s just good to have one when things don’t go the way you expect. The challenges in life can present us with discouragements and loss.  But having a good sense of humor breaks off any chains those emotions might try and lay on you.  This is especially important to help you press on.

5. Don’t Mistake Criticism For Advice!
When you are about to really do something great is seems like all the negative Nellies just come out of the wood work.  Don’t pay any attention to criticism.  People will laugh people will talk.  They will judge you only because they haven’t done it themselves.  Don’t Listen.  Stay the course!

6. Remember The goal, Keep your Eye on the Prize!
You must really believe where you are going.  And know that you will make it.  You are going to succeed at your purpose in life!  Keep yourself postured and in  forward motion.  No one can take away your will!  No one can take away your vision. That is your constant motivation!  Don’t look to the left or to the right.  Keep your eye on the prize.

Recognition Is Key To Excellence

There are three general phases in life.  First lets go over what these are.
Then you can identify which phase you are in.  This may prove to be helpful
in recognizing what to do now and what to do next.  It’s important to know every phase of life is not the same.  LOL, maybe you already figured that one out.  It is just as vitally important to know that neither should we try to make each phase the same.  Ideally, one’s life should follow a pattern.  The main focus should go from learning to earning to returning.

Here’s what I mean:

Learn; phase one in life. The early stages of life should find you
focused on exploring your talents, discovering your purpose, and learning
your trade. This stage of life typically takes place during the teens and
twenties although it can go well through the thirties.  The exact time frame
isn’t important. What is important here is recognizing and accepting the
time of life set aside where learning is the primary objective.  It’s also
important to realize this so one isn’t tempted to take shortcuts to
financial gain and totally miss out on the big picture of their life.

Earn; phase two in life.  At this point in time if a person is on track
with their purpose, they have learned their trade well.  They also practice it well.  As the obvious hope is that they are able to earn a good living.  Of one’s choice of profession will greatly impact their earning power. This season of life for many when their earning is most effective occurs during their thirties, forties, and fifties. This is the phase of life when one should strive to take care of their family and prepare for their future.

Return; phase three in life.  It is simply wisdom that we should always try to be generous no matter what our age is. But if one has worked hard and planned well, they just may enter that stage of life that proves to be the most rewarding. This is the phase when one may choose to give back to others.  This stage usually takes place during the fifties, sixties, seventies, and beyond.

Of course these phases are generalizations, but they do present a pattern for which to strive.  If you are reading this and you are young, then you may be eager to leave the learning phase.  But remember to be patient.  For the more diligently you go after phase one, the greater your potential to maximize your other phases.  Perhaps you are older and you feel you didn’t lay a good foundation for yourself, do not despair.  Simply continue to learn and grow.  You can still finish well.  But if you give up you can never go up.

(YouTube Slapped Funeral Service)

Welcome to (part 3) of “How To Prevent The YouTube Slap”.
Hopefully everybody fell into one of the prior 2 groups.  But if that is not the case and you actually fell into this category.  Hopefully this will bring the needed help and consolation.

• In this article (part 3) we will be addressing those of you who have had your YouTube account (s) suspended, disabled, or deleted without warning.

• In (part 2) we covered ideas for those of you who have 1 or more active YouTube accounts.

• And in (part 1) we went over some recommendations and ideas on how to avoid the YouTube slap if you are new to Youtube.

Ok, time to get real…
So what happens?  You get a brief little email from YouTube with the news.  So all you can do at this point is email them back.  And you should.  But chances are you will receive back their cookie cutter email stating:
“Your account has been found to have violated our community guidelines.  Your account has now been terminated.  ….you are prohibited from accessing, processing, or creating any other YouTube accounts.  …We are unable to provide specific detail regarding your account suspension or your video’s removal.  For more info on what we consider inappropriate content or conduct while using YouTube, please visit our community guidelines and tips at http://www.youtube.com/t/community_guidlines and our Help Center Article at http://help.youtube.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=92486

They do not provide a phone # which leads me to believe they don’t want to work with anyone  to reverse something like this.
You can email the YouTube support desk and request that they reinstate your channels. (There is only 1 case where we have heard of where this worked) but you have nothing to lose by trying.  If they do email you back and tell you “no”, then it’s time to face the facts.

Now it’s time to start over from the beginning.
 

1. The IP address is critical.  You definitely only want 1 channel on your home IP address.  So be sure to get a new IP address from your ISP.  On top of this I’ve actually heard of someone going as far as having a friend who lives somewhere else open a YouTube account for them on their IP address.  Not a bad idea.  Just make sure they personally don’t have a YouTube channel and don’t use this.  You don’t want them somehow responsible for your channel being shut down.
2. Just changing your IP address should be good enough.  But if you can’t get your ISP to give you a new IP address, having a friend open a new YouTube account on their IP would definately come in handy at this point.
3. If both of these options fail than you can look into proxy servers.  These essentially allow you to hide your IP to the rest of the internet (be sure and do your research on them first). Here are 2 examples; http://www.hide-ip-browser.com/ and http://www.hide-my-ip.com/
   (If this is starting to get too complicated google the term “proxy servers” this will educate you on what they do why they do it.  This is just a way to get around the fact that YouTube only wants you to have 1 channel on 1 IP.  Once you are shut down they are not going to allow you to start another account on that IP.  We don’t recommend using a free one just because they are alot slower.  A couple of bucks a month is well worth it to get on the right track with YouTube again.
4. Make sure you create a new email address entirely, that has never before been on YouTube.  Once your YouTube account is suspended so is the email address that was used to create it.
5. Open ONLY ONE account and stick with ONLY ONE on your personal IP address.
   Whatever your link was that was on your personal profile, DO NOT USE THE SAME ONE.  Get a different one and direct people there.
6. Use a new brand, and a new domain start over from scratch.
7. Do not upload any of the saved videos you may have that were on your YouTube accounts that got deleted.  If you do YouTube will find you.
8. Do not use TubeBlasterPro or any YouTube software.
9. Do not use spammy descriptions, titles or keyword tags.
10. Do not purchase views.
11. Do not use Traffic Geyser for YouTube.  We love and use it for other things don’t get me wrong.  By all means use it as much as you want anywhere else.  But just to be safe and not to upset YouTube any more than you may already have.  Don’t use it for YouTube.
12. Make it your point to provide only value and nothing pitchy.  (Like try not to talk about making millions).  Share things more valuable like tutorial insights or how to blurps that will help someone with whatever company they happen to be with.  Tell people they can fill out the form to learn more or find you on this site or that.  But don’t be pitching your product or service.
13. The point to remember is to use your new YouTube channel to brand YOU!
    Keeping this in mind will help to ensure your channel stays active.

Remember these are recommendations.  We do not know all the guidelines and thought processes YouTube uses to determine their moves. This is just about watching and paying attention to what they like and don’t like.  Not trying to play above the law with them.

Welcome back to part 2 of “How To Prevent The YouTube Slap”.

• In part 1 we went over some recommendations and ideas on how to avoid the YouTube slap if you are new to Youtube.

• In part 2 we will be covering ideas for those of you who already have 1 or more active YouTube accounts.

• And of course in part 3 we will be having a funeral service for those of you who have already had their YouTube account deleted, suspended or disabled. I’m kidding, we will see what ideas of hope we have for you as well.

So if you currently have 1 or more active YouTube channels pay attention.

1. First of all shut down all but one account especially if you created them all with one email address. YouTube only wants you to have 1 YouTube account with 1 email address. If you have several accounts or even 2 tied to one email address that would just be a really sad and easy reason for them to shut you down.  So just keep the best one and shut down the rest.  If and when they find out that you have more than one account on your IP address they will shut all your accounts down. So its better to have you decide what to keep than to have them erase it all.
2. Now just as important if the one YouTube account you’re going to keep has the same the email address as any of the accounts you are deleting than you need to create a new email address and change your YouTube account’s email address immediately.
3. You need to call your ISP and have your IP address changed.  You should only have 1 YouTube account per IP.  So if you have multiple accounts you need to change your IP address immediately.
4. Just like the rules for newbies …. no friend adders, no buying views, no using software to automate anything, no duplicate content, no spammy videos,
   no pitchy videos, remember you need to be providing real value.

Now just remember, this is just recommendations based on research and trial and error so to speak.  This is a great opportunity to learn from someone else’s experience and most likely save a lot of frustration and even be able to help others do the same.

We don’t know everything YouTube is doing.  We can only learn from what we’ve seen.  And share what we ourselves are doing to prevent our own major marketing catastrophe so to speak.
