The Commonwealth Festival, a Western Australian Government funded initiative, will be staged alongside the 2011 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

The Festival starts with a bang on Sunday 23 October with the Opening Celebration, a free, family friendly concert and fireworks in the Supreme Court Gardens featuring iconic physical theatre group Strange Fruit.

Ten Days on the Island is Tasmania's state-wide biennial multi art-form festival. Strange Fruit was thrilled to be involved, performing Ringing the Changes at the Historic Port Arthur site. Ringing the Changes' composer Graeme Leak also conducted a residence at the Tasman District School in the week leading up to the performances.

Strange Fruit and Deaf Arts Network presented The Atrium.

161 Collins Street hosted this unique collaboration between Strange Fruit and members of Melbourne’s deaf community.

The workshops signalled the beginning of a new artistic relationship as deaf performers from Deaf Arts Network were trained to perform atop Strange Fruit’s five-metre high flexible poles.

The internal courtyard atrium of 161 Collins played an integral role in this evolving relationship; the glass that surrounds the courtyard allowed the onlooker to experience the work free from any sound.

Workshops were open to the public at all times. The project aimed to broaden awareness and understanding of cultural difference.

Strange Fruit and the Graeae Theatre Company performed a new work commissioned as part of Unlimited - the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad project celebrating arts, culture and sport by disabled and deaf people.

A gathering of gardeners and guardians took you through the memory of England's "green and pleasant land" in a deconsecrated churchyard in the heart of Greenwich.

While seedlings were tended, angels looked down from the top of 5 metre high sway poles, and an emotional story of love, loss and hope unfolded. This epic production took inspiration from the poetry of William Blake to create a contemporary Garden of Eden in which love, verdant growth and sweet smelling flowers struggled to survive the rise of the dark satanic mills and the ever changing environment.

All performances where held in St Alfege Park, Greenwich, SE10 as part of the Greenwich+Docklands International Festival.

The Garden was commissioned as part of London 2012’s Cultural Olympiad from an original idea conceived by Greenwich+Docklands International Festival.
