Thanks for reading my blog.

Its fact vs reality. Its great customers are implementing TP across the board for a 10PB environment, i am sure they have to evaluate various manufacturers as part of business requirements determining which products and solutions closely match those.

But said that, this post is talking about recommendations about implementing TP, Dedup and other known technologies, if a customer is already implementing those, its absolutely good for them. The problem is its not across the board.

The vendors that implemented a 10PB environment with TP should write up a case story and publish it along with the name of the customer and showing the value they bring on the table.

I would highly recommend that in the future you use a real legitimate email address and your disqus handle if you expect me to publish your comments on my blog.

It's one thing to read tech manuals and go to trade shows, it is another to be out in the field were the real work goes on.

I bet you wont post that on your filtered web site.

A real Blog is wide open were people can post there comments freely.

I have posted comments before but they never reach your pages.

It is the sign of a HACK, sorry but it is the truth.

I would have to strongly disagree with you. i work in the enterprise storage space and see it in use every day. i have on customer who just thinned out a 10PB global storage environemt. Of course the only vendor that could deliver was EMC on VMAX. They tried on USP-V with limited success, but once they migrated their environment to VMAX VP they created thick to thin clones and then ran Zero page reclaim. I believe you should reconsider your statement, or start talking with enterprise class customers. I will agree that in the mid tier space it is not that common, but the savings achieved with thinning out a mid tier environment are not enough to justify the effort required to do so. If you want to talk about DeDup then you are completely wrong. Dedup is everywhere. The savings are immediate and easily justify the cost of such technologies as DataDomain. The ROI is real.

Hi Devang! I enjoyed this blog and the comparisons between storage virtualization technology with HDS' USP-V and EMC's VPLEX. In fact, I've made it the topic of my recent blog at,

http://blogs.hds.com/michael/2010/08/talking-about-storage-virtualization.html#more-3718

You are asking the right questions and I've responded to a few of them directly in my blog and one of them in a response to a comment from Nigel. I may actually address a few more of your questions in a future blog. Great stuff and keep up the good work.

Best regards,
Ken Wood with HDS

You are asking the right questions and I’ve responded to a few of them directly in my blog and one of them in a response to a comment from Nigel. I may actually address a few more of your questions in a future blog. Great stuff and keep up the good work.

Best regards,
