The 2012 Pro Tour will visit five cities throughout the United States, including a brand new venue in the Midwest.

Raphael Derome Joins the Red Bull Canada Roster

Red Bull Canada welcomes world class wakeboarder Raphael Derome to it’s athlete roster. 20-year-old Raph, as is his preferred moniker, has been in, on or around the water in his hometown of Coteau-Du-Lac, Quebec since birth. By 18 months Raph was already on water skis following in the footsteps of his Dad, a former National Champion in water ski jumping. At 9 years old Raph got his first taste of Wakeboarding when his brother, 7 years his senior, introduced him to it. Raph was a quick study and by the end of his first full year he had already learned inverts and was hungry for more. He excelled quickly and by 19 had claimed a Jr. Pro Men Tour Stop, a Jr. Pro Wake Games Championship, a Wake the Line Title and was named the Transworld Rail Rider of the Year in 2010 and Wakeworld Rider of the Year in 2011.

Phillip Soven Wins in Fort Worth on 22nd Birthday

Among the six finalists was defending Pro Tour titlist Phillip Soven, who celebrated his 22nd birthday today. The birthday boy faced off in stacked heat that included his younger brother Bob Soven, current points-leader Harley Clifford, former world champ Rusty Malinoski, world-record holder JD Webb and Canadian rail-master Olivier Derome.

The scorching weather and constant riding fatigued most of the finalist, causing several unfortunate falls. However, top seed, Harley Clifford, managed to put together what appeared to be a winning run, but not before the birthday boy could blow out his candles to narrowly edge out Clifford 95.50 to 95.00.

Rookie Steel Lafferty and Seattle’s Nick Jones both made their Pro Men finals debut against several wakeboarding heavyweights, including former Pro Tour titlist Harley Clifford and reigning champ Phillip Soven.

Both newcomers put up a respectable showing, with Lafferty and Jones finishing in third and fourth place, respectively.

Top seed Phillip Soven appeared to have an edge on the competition in the finals, but ultimately fell short to winner Harley Clifford, who pulled off the upset to take first place in Acworth.

I like to be inspired when I ride, maybe because I lived at the Projects for so long and was surrounded by incredibly talented riders every day. I just love being in and on water that people kill it on daily. I swear it’s more magical than random water. When I picked up my knee brace, I wanted my first set back after surgery to be on a familiar magical body of water with someone that will get me pumped to shred. There was only really one logical place for me to go. The Harlos compound on Orr Lake.

While Sunday’s weather was not as picture perfect as Saturday and more than a few “Wakestockers” were slow getting to the park after a big night out, by Sunday afternoon the spectator stands were full for the WWA World Series wakeboard finals. And it what an incredible finals to see stacked with the world’s very best!

When the spray settled three new names had been added to the prestigious list of Wakestock Champions taking the coveted Wakestock belts and prize money: Bob Soven – Pro Wakeboard ; Grant Roberts – Pro Wakeskate; Melissa Marquardt – Pro Women!

Sunny, warm summer weather, the world’s best pro wakeboarders and wakeskaters, pro skateboarders, bikinis AND the opportunity to see Public Enemy and Alexisonfire all in the same day attracted thousands to Collingwood’s Millennium Park for an amazing kick-off Wakestock 2010 WWA World Series pro contest, presented by Monster Energy!

Thousands lined the shoreline and crammed the bleachers to catch the best riders throw down in the pro qualification heats for this fourth and largest stop of the WWA World Series. The pros took full advantage of the perfect calm water conditions.

On July 10th 2010, wakeboarders from Manitoba converged on West Hawk Lake in the Whiteshell Provincial Park, for Hawkstock. The event started years ago as King of the Lake wakeboard competition, and has evolved into a day of taking over the main beach for a winch session.

Clifford, Butler & Hansen Win - WWA Wake Nationals

The Pro Men’s division highlighted the event, with its five-man final. Defending titleist, Adam Errington, failed to advance past the semifinal round today, leaving the national title up for grabs for Danny Harf, Rusty Malinoski, Harley Clifford, Phillip Soven and Bryan Hutton.

All five pros threw down impressive runs, but top seed Harley Clifford made the biggest impact on the water to take home his first-ever Nationals win. Former national champions Phillip Soven and Danny Harf rounded out the Pro Men’s division podium, respectively.

Ryan Doyle is one of Canada's top wakeskaters, and a pioneer at riding rails. He spent many years living in Florida, including 5 years at the Projects, and is now back living in Canada. He recently underwent knee surgery, and this is his story.

Clifford & Derome Take Wins in Elizabethtown!

The last round of action pinned Keith Lyman, Kyle Rattray, Jimmy LaRiche, Harley Clifford, Bob and Phillip Soven against each other for one of the most unique finals in history. Not only did today’s finals pin two brother against each, but half the finalists were making their first-ever appearance in a Pro Tour final.

All eyes were on Phillip Soven, the top-seeded rider of the contest and 2009 Elizabethtown Tour stop winner, but 16-year-old Aussie phenom Harley Clifford stole the show and won the event. Clifford’s impressive Nose Grab Back Mobe 540 and massive Heelside 900 elevated the defending Pro Tour titlist to the top of the contest podium. Phillip and Bob Soven rounded out the podium, respectively.

The finals pinned Austin Hair, Bryan Hutton, Rusty Malinoski, Phillip Soven, Danny Harf and Olivier Derome against each other in the final round of action. All eyes were on the new top seed, Rusty Malinoski to see if he duplicate his 2007 Fort Worth winning-run, but fell short to two-time Pro Tour titlist Phillip Soven.

Soven’s Backside 720 off the double up helped push the Florida native to the top of the contest podium, with Malinoski and four-time X Games gold medalist Danny Harf rounding out the top three, respectively.

Fort Worth Pro Tour Qualifiers Results

Fort Worth, Texas – The MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour made its second stop of the 2010 season today in Fort Worth, TX. The Pro Tour, which runs through Saturday, June 12, on Lake Moser at Texas MasterCraft, kicked off the three-day-long event with qualifying rounds for the Pro Men and Jr. Pro Men divisions.

First off the dock this morning were the pros for their opening round of action, where 36 riders looked to stay afloat on Tour and qualify through to the next round of the contest. Only the top three riders from each of the eight heats advanced, sending 24 pros to tomorrow’s Round of 40, where they will be joined by the top 16 riders on Tour, including Aussie phenom Harley Clifford.

FYI - All Canadians Now Need a Boating License

All operators of powered watercraft used for recreational purposes within Canada now require a boating license.

As of September 15, 2009 all boaters are now required to have the Pleasure Craft Operator Card in order to operate a powered watercraft. There is no grandfather clause or age exemption – this law applies to all boaters. Powered watercraft includes watercraft fitted with any size motor – even a trolling motor.

To receive this boat operator license, you must pass a multiple choice exam with a score of at least 75%. If you don't pass on your first attempt, you can retry the exam at no additional cost. You can take this exam online.

Clifford Wins Pro Tour Stop #1 in Acworth, Malinoski 2nd

The finals pinned Hair, Adam Errington, Rusty Malinoski, Phillip Soven, JD Webb and Harley Clifford against each other in a six-man final. In such a stacked final heat, riders couldn’t hold anything back in order to win the first Pro Tour stop of the 2010 season. It’s back again! The second annual Brooklin Spring Fair Winch Jam brought to you by Mistaken Agency will be held again at June 4th, 5th, and 6th at the fair. With last year’s success, there has been a lot of demand for this event to return. So we’re bringing it back, only bigger and better than last year.

Last year, names such as Nick Harlos, Ryan Doyle, Addison Farr, and more showed up to throw down in the jam. The day was filled with shuv-its, big spins, and much more, constantly having the crowd in awe. Last year featured a 46’ start pool, 20’ flat slider, to a 55’ end pool. With many people and riders coming out, the entire weekend was insane.

Xcel is proud to announce that 2009 WWA Wakeboard World Champion Aaron Rathy has joined Xcel Canada’s Wakeboard Team after an outstanding 2009 season.

Rathy’s streak kicked off with a win at the Pleasant Prairie Pro Tour Stop, followed with a win at the Knoxville Pro Tour Stop one week later. Rathy continued the season with strong finishes leading to a second place overall finish in the 2009 Pro Tour.

Wakestock 2009 Amateur Results

Over 140 riders competed in Canada's biggest grassroots am contest with dozens of competitor categories and tons of prizes covering all levels and ages of riders. The youngest rider was 7 years old and oldest 52! The Malibu Boats Wakestock Amateur Championship is also the only amateur contest in the world where an unranked, unknown am rider can qualify for a Pro World Series! This year the four top amateur wakeboarders: Dary Znebel, Gavin Hicks, Mike McBrearty and Dominic Sirois all qualified for the Billabong Pro Wakeboard contest and a chance to compete against the biggest names in the world, as did Brady Hicks in Malibu Boats Pro Wakeskate. Gavin Hicks and Brady Hicks both finished 3rd in their respective pro wakeboard and pro wakeskate heats, just one spot shy of qualifying for the quarter-finals!

Collingwood, ON. August 9, 2009: With the top wakeboarders and the air temperatures both soaring, Wakestock’s final day proved to be one of the hottest ever! It was literally the hottest day of the sum•mer in Collingwood, Ontario with temps hitting the equivalent of 39°C (102°F). And it was definitelyone of the hottest days of riding this summer with young guns Harley Clifford of Australia, Bob Soven of the USA and Raphael Derome of Canada pushing the established stars like Rusty Malinoski and Aaron Rathy of Canada and Phillip Soven of the USA.

Big tricks like the Switch Toe 900 (Bob Soven), Heelside Wrapped Back 720 (Aaron Rathy), Moby Dick 540 (Phillip Soven), Switch Heelside 720 (Harley Clifford) and Toeside Backside Off-Axis 540 (Rathy) were routinely being stomped to the amazement and cheers of the huge Wakestock crowd lining the shore! Plus super tech, super smooth rail tricks by everyone. In the end its was Aaron Rathy who delivered the best run of the finals to take the Billabong Wakestock Pro title and coveted belt, his first WWA World Series win.

Knoxville, Tenn. – The top pro wakeboarders in the world hit the waters of Volunteer Landing today for the final rounds of action at MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour stop in Knoxville, Tenn.

First off the dock this morning, were the Pro Men’s division for their 20-man quarterfinal. Riders competed in five heats of four, with only the top two riders in each heat advancing onto the semifinals.

The theme of today’s semifinals was old school meets new school, as the two stacked heats ranged from young guns Harley Clifford and Jimmy LaRiche to elite veterans Chad Sharpe and Danny Harf.

The ten semifinalists battled it out on the water for one of four spots in the finals, with Andrew Adkison, Danny Harf, rookie Harley Clifford and top-seed Aaron Rathy advancing onto the last round of the contest.

All four finalists threw down some impressive runs, but Canadian ripper Aaron Rathy stood out from the competition to post a 97-point run, almost 12-points more than his next closet competitor. Harley Clifford and Danny Harf rounded out the podium, respectively.

Each one has their own style, unique personality, and energy.

Oli, is the older brother who at 22 is some what of a seasoned veteran. He has been competing on the Pro Wakeboard Tour for years now. Last season he broke in to the top twenty with a 17th place over all finish. Oli, is an amazing coach, a bundle of positive energy and pretty much gets along with and knows everyone.

Raph, is the young brother Who has been continually blowing up. Raph has
forged his own path and is recognized as being force and style of his
own. Despite describing him self as a free rider Raph has also become a
serious competitor in the Canadian scene and is looking for more success
on the junior Pro Tour this season.

One of the most underrated provinces in Canada is starting to make their mark in the map in the wakeboard scene. Saskatchewan, home of Rusty “The Bonecrusher” Malinoski, is beginning to prove that there is room for more than one pro wakeboarder within its borders.
