Glittered Snow Swirled with Heat and Stick Powder

Have you ever used Heat and Stick Powder? Let me tell you a little about it. Heat and Stick is a white powder that acts like a "glue". After stamping with VersaMark or Craft ink, pour Heat & Stick powder liberally over your design. Shake off excess powder onto a Powder Pal tray, and pour it back into the bottle. Heat the stamped image with a heat tool just until the powder changes to a shiny liquid. This is a VERY IMPORTANT POINT. HEAT JUST UNTIL IT CHANGES, otherwise it melts into the paper and loses it's "stickablitity". Quickly sprinkle glitter over the sticky powder. Shake off excess. Heat again briefly to set the glitter. Most people try to use glue to add glitter to a project, but it’s difficult to get a nice, even look. The Heat & Stick Powder fixes that problem perfectly.

Here I used Heat and Stick on the Christmas Tree. Then I sprayed the whole card with "Shimmer Spray" referred to back on Oct 10, 2009.

Delightful Decorations - Quick and Simple with Embossing

I have rediscovered Heat Embossing again. Have you ever just forgot how easy but FUN something was? You know that feeling....you just get out of the habit, get into other things that you think are "new" and "better" and let something wow and simple just slip to the side. That's exactly what I did with Heat Embossing. I have "rediscovered it" the past couple of days. It's fast, simple, fun...it's MAGIC!

Here is a card I did with clear embossing powder and craft (or pigment) ink. It gave the ornaments just the right glassy glaze to shine on this card. If you have a heat tool, pull it out and play with it as soon as possible and let me know if you feel the magic. If you don't have one...well....you definitely need to think about getting one. I would be happy to help you get started. It's a wonderful time with the busy card season getting into full swing. Contact me and I will help you get started.

Snow Swirled on a Beautiful Fall day

Spring Forward, FALL BACK! Did you set your Clock BACK?

We are back on Standard Time now. Yes, the first Sunday in November...that's today! On Sunday, November 1 at 2 a.m., Daylight Saving Time ends in the United States.
Every spring we move our clocks one hour ahead and "lose" an hour during the night and each fall we move our clocks back one hour and "gain" an extra hour. But Daylight Saving Time (and not Daylight Savings Time with an "s") wasn't just created to confuse our schedules.

The phrase "Spring forward, fall back" helps people remember how Daylight Saving Time affects their clocks. At 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March, we set our clocks forward one hour ahead of standard time ("spring forward"). We "fall back" at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November by setting our clock back one hour and thus returning to standard time.

The change to Daylight Saving Time allows us to use less energy in lighting our homes by taking advantage of the longer and later daylight hours. During the eight month period of Daylight Saving Time, the names of time in each of the time zones in the U.S. change as well. Eastern Standard Time (EST) becomes Eastern Daylight Time, Central Standard Time (CST) becomes Central Daylight Time (CDT), Mountain Standard Time (MST) becomes Mountain Daylight Tome (MDT), Pacific Standard Time becomes Pacific Daylight Time (PDT), and so forth.

Daylight Saving Time was instituted in the United States during World War I in order to save energy for war production by taking advantage of the later hours of daylight between April and October. During World War II the federal government again required the states to observe the time change. Between the wars and after World War II, states and communities chose whether or not to observe Daylight Saving Time. In 1966, Congress passed the Uniform Time Act which standardized the length of Daylight Saving Time.

Daylight Saving Time is four weeks longer since 2007 due to the passage of the Energy Policy Act in 2005. The Act extended Daylight Saving Time by four weeks from the second Sunday of March to the first Sunday of November, with the hope that it would save 10,000 barrels of oil each day through reduced use of power by businesses during daylight hours. Unfortunately, it is exceedingly difficult to determine energy savings from Daylight Saving Time and based on a variety of factors, it is possible that little or no energy is saved by Daylight Saving Time.
