Stamp Ink Diva

This is my second sample that I shared with other demonstrators in a demonstrator only swap for the new Holiday Catalog. Have you had a chance to look? Pretty fun stuff, eh?

My other sample was a Christmas one, but this sample uses Sweet Hauntings stamp set. I originally purchased this set to use with sweet treats to hand out for Halloween. I wanted to make something with the tombstone images and the coordinating tag punch. (LOVE when Stampin' Up! makes coordinating products. Makes life so much easier.)

But of course, my card didn't use any of it. Instead, I used the "potion" bottles. I love the different shapes. (And yes, I added my dazzling diamonds to give it some more pizzazz.) I also made the center images askewed. It's the trend right now and I have to say, it was the perfect twist to this card. Another favorite item from the Holiday Catalog is the spider web doilies. I love that one side is black and the other white. Fun stuff!!

It's hard to think of Christmas when it is high 90s here in southern California, but I needed to get this card mailed out to the other demonstrators. With every new catalog, someone organizes a swap where we all pick a stamp set and share our creations. This is one of my samples. My other one will be shared later this week.

This Sparkling Season stamp set also has a coordinating thinlits die (useful with the Big Shot). I love any stamp set that has a coordinating punch or a bigshot die. You also know that I LOVE dazzling diamond glitter and this set is perfect for it. But I also see a lot of potential with this set. It could be used for every possible occasion you can think of. Asher's First Birthday Party

See how he's grown banner in front of the mocktail bar. We served your traditional sodas, lemonade, and korean sweet rice drink. But the hit of the day was "The Asher", a special mocktail in honor of the birthday boy.

Part one of our entertainment was to see what Asher would choose. As you can see, we have a future athlete on our hands!

I had him try again without the ball just to see what he would choose but he went back to the empty space where the ball should have been!

Part two of the entertainment was traditional Korean dances and drums. We wanted our guests to see a little of Korean culture. In the past, this type of entertainment was only performed for royalty so it was definitely a treat for all generations.

Copycat-Geronimo Balloons & tassels

For Asher's first birthday, I knew I wanted to use the big round 36" balloons like the ones I used for Riley's birthday. But only now, I wanted to add more pizzazz and found Geronimo Balloons. I couldn't afford those balloons on my budget so I decided to be a copy cat and make them on my own.

There are a lot of tutorials on how to make balloon tassels. Tassels are in!!! But I decided to make them another way because I had to make a lot and I wasn't about to cut each individual tissue and roll and attach. So how did I make them?

First, I ordered tissue paper that were already folded in half and measured 20" X 15". I trimmed the stack to 12" x 20" so I could place them in my paper cutter.

I trimmed the entire stack to 1/2" strips. Then, I wrapped the elastic cord around the tops of the 1/2" strip bundle. I took the other end of the cord and wrapped another stack of 1/2" strip of tissue.

I tied these bundles to the ballon cord and fluffed the tassels to make them look more full.

I achieved the look I was going for and saved me some time. Let me know what you think?

MDS Birthday Invitation

I ran out of the first invitations that I made for Asher's first birthday. So, I quickly created another one using my handy, dandy My Digital Studio. The theme was modern geometric and balloons. (I'm obsessed with Geronimo Balloons. I couldn't afford it so I created my replicas, which I'll post later.) But back to the invitations, this is what I created:

Even though the colors do not match the original invitations, it actually goes along better with the party theme colors. (The color themes were pulled from Asher's traditional Korean Hanbok.)

I used a square punch and resized it to fill the whole page on the back. Then, filled it with designer paper. I like to use this method so I can change the actual size of the design on the paper.

Inflatable Invitations

I knew I wanted to create Asher's party around Geronimo Balloons. So I looked around to see if there were more creative ways to incorporate a balloon into the invitations itself. Gotta love pinterest!!! Why not use a real balloon for the invitation and print the details on the balloon?!

*the white out doesn't help with the aesthetics but it helps with privacy

I created the postcard to attach the balloon to with My Digital Studio. And because geometric is so hot right now, I decided to use this background paper. This geometric theme became an integral part of the actual party.

February Paper Pumpkin Surprise

Dol Towers

First birthdays are a BIG deal. (Especially in the Korean culture.) You can learn more about Dol here.

To celebrate and honor some of the modern and traditional Korean customs, I made my own Dol Towers. These Dol towers are used to decorate the main tables. The towers consist of the child's name, Chuk Dol "Happy First Birthday", zodiac animal for the year the child was born, and other fun decorations. Because of my time constraint, I only made two.

I emptied out my oatmeal containers.

Turned the canister upside down, traced, and cut out a cardboard circle to place on to the canister so I would have a flat and even surface.

Stuffed the bottom of the canister with tissue and then glued the cardboard circle on top. (The purpose of the tissue was so that the cardboard circle would not cave in the middle.)

Trimmed the card stock to the height of the canister and covered up the sides and the top. (I used two card stocks for the sides and overlapped them.)

Centered the printouts onto the towers and adhered to the card stock.

Sorted out the beans and glued them onto the canisters. (I would suggest you place them on to make sure there is enough space and then glue, little sections at a time.)

I wanted my colors to include some gold, so I spray painted the larger beans and once they were dried, glued those on.

It definitely wasn't one of my quick and easy projects, but it was definitely worth making them! It'll add the extra punch to my head table. More pictures to come in the next couple of weeks!

First birthday celebration (Dol)

Only a couple weeks away till my baby is ONE YEAR'S OLD!!! I have myself in party mode and have been preparing a great deal, which I will share in the weeks to come. But today, I wanted to share the Doljabi.

Dol or First Birthday is a big celebration in Korean culture. The highlight of the dol is where the child is placed in front of various objects such as a pen, money, yarn, and a ball. The child is encouraged to pick an object and whatever is selected foretells the child's future. For example, if the baby picks up the yarn, then the child will be destined to have a long life.

To make it fun for our guests, they will be asked to guess what our baby will choose and then given a ticket to be placed in the corresponding jar. At the end, we will draw a winner from the corresponding jar of the object that was chosen.
