href="http://www.lastfm.com/Them+Crooked+Vultures" target="_blank">Last.fm

Them Crooked Vultures (abbreviated as TCV) is a rock music supergroup that formed in Los Angeles, California in 2005. Comprising drummer Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Probot), vocalist and guitarist Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Eagles of Death Metal) and bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), the band also features Alain Johannes (Eleven, Queens of the Stone Age) as a live rhythm guitarist. The band's debut album, Them Crooked Vultures, is due for release on November 16, 2009 in the UK and November 17, 2009 in the US. It was released to the internet on November 9, 2009 via the band's YouTube page.

A collaboration between Homme, Jones, Grohl was first publicly mentioned by Grohl in a 2005 interview with Mojo, in which he declared "The next project that I'm trying to initiate involves me on drums, Josh Homme on guitar, and John Paul Jones playing bass. That’s the next album. That wouldn’t suck." Of the nascent project, Homme's wife Brody Dalle commented in July 2009 that "I'm not at liberty to talk about it [...] but I think [the project] is pretty fucking amazing. Just beats and sounds like you’ve never heard before." British music magazine NME reported in July 2009 that the trio had begun recording in Los Angeles.

Them Crooked Vultures performed its first show at the Metro, Chicago on August 9, 2009. The band played all original material during its 80-minute set, debuting such songs as opener "Elephants", "Scumbag Blues", "Caligulove" and closing song "Nobody Loves Me and Neither Do I". TCV made its European debut on August 19 with a performance at Melkweg in the Netherlands, the same day on which a short video clip of studio footage was uploaded by the band, featuring the song "Nobody Loves Me and Neither Do I", essentially confirming its inclusion on the band's debut album.

With subsequent festival performances in Europe at Pukkelpop and Lowlands, the band first performed in the United Kingdom at London's Brixton Academy supporting English alternative rock band Arctic Monkeys on August 26. The trio subsequently performed at the Reading and Leeds Festivals on August 28 and 29. Playing the Leeds Festival first then moving onto Reading the next day.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

Broadcast - Broadcast and The Focus Group Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age [2009]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

Broadcast are an electronic music band, based in the Kings Heath part of Birmingham, England. Original members were Trish Keenan (vocals), Roj Stevens (keyboards), Tim Felton (guitar) and James Cargill (bass). Various drummers have played with the band, including Keith York, Phil Jenkins, Jeremy Barnes, Steve Perkins and Neil Bullock. As of 2005, the group consisted of Keenan and Cargill, with Felton having departed to form a new project, Seeland, with Billy Bainbridge, formerly of another Birmingham Warp act Plone.
The band's style is a mixture of electronic sounds and Keenan's 1960s-influenced vocals. It is heavily influenced by the 1960s American psychedelic group The United States of America, using many of the same electronic effects. It is also reminiscent of Stereolab. However, despite the similar musical pedigree, Broadcast's music often has a darker, edgier sound - with amorphous samples and analogue dissonance giving it a retro-futuristic sci-fi edge.
The band's first releases were singles released on Wurlitzer Jukebox Records ( "Accidentals" ) and Duophonic Records ("The Book Lovers") in the mid-1990s. "The Book Lovers" was also featured on the soundtrack of the film Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. They attracted the attention of Warp Records, who compiled the singles in 1997 on Work and Non Work. All subsequent releases have been on Warp Records, or in the USA on Tommy Boy Records. Their song "Before We Begin" was used in the Season Four finale of The L Word.
The band has released three albums, several EPs, two singles and EP collections. In October 2009, Broadcast will release their latest work - a collaborative mini-album with The Focus Group (aka graphic designer and Ghost Box label co-owner Julian House) called 'Broadcast and The Focus Group Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age'.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

Goldfrapp - Black Cherry [2003]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

Goldfrapp is a British electronic music group. The band was formed in 1999 in London, England, and consists of Alison Goldfrapp (vocals/synthesizer) and Will Gregory (synthesizer).
Despite favourable reviews and a shortlisting for the Mercury Prize, the ambient sound of their 2000 debut album Felt Mountain did not chart highly. Goldfrapp's second album Black Cherry, which incorporated glam rock and synthpop sounds into their music, was released in 2003. The album experienced success across nightclubs in North America and influenced the same dance-oriented sound of their third album Supernature. Supernature took Goldfrapp's work further into dance music, and enjoyed international chart success. Supernature produced three number one US dance singles, and was nominated for "Best Electronic/Dance Album" at the 49th Grammy Awards. Their fourth album Seventh Tree placed a greater emphasis on ambient and downtempo music, drawing inspiration from nature and paganism.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

kiiiiiii - Al & Bum [2007]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

As comfortable playing traditional gig venues as they are art galleries, Tokyo girl duo Kiiiiiii have built their reputation on their live shows, in which vocalist U.T. and drummer Lakin' dash through a technicolor car crash of songs and musical skits performed in the character of 1980s American schoolgirls. The punk energy and the conceptual underpinnings (both members are art-school graduates) have won them local press coverage, but they are also a polarizing proposition. By creating a world of their own and inhabiting it so wholeheartedly, their shows can be alienating for people whose idea of fun isn't the film "Freaky Friday" as reimagined by Man Ray.

Kiiiiiii's long awaited debut album presents less of a stark challenge. Assisted by Cornelius and Buffalo Daughter collaborator DJ Codomo, "Al & Bum's" 19 tracks succeed in alluding to the eccentricities of their live performances, ably replicating the latter's chaotic energy and gleeful nonsensicality. Most interestingly, DJ Codomo embellishes many of the songs (including the odd kitschy cover version) with arrangements that preserve Kiiiiiii's minimalist approach while bringing out the charming melodies that are scattered throughout the album.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

Silverchair - Young Modern [2007]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

Silverchair is an Australian alternative rock band. The band formed as Innocent Criminals in Newcastle, New South Wales, in 1992, with their current lineup of vocalist and guitarist Daniel Johns, bass guitarist Chris Joannou, and drummer Ben Gillies. Silverchair has been highly successful in the Australian recording industry, receiving the industry's flagship awards, the ARIA Awards, a record 20 times. The band has also received six APRA Awards.

Silverchair found early success when one of their first songs, "Tomorrow", won a local music competition run by Australian television network SBS. The band was soon signed by Murmur, and were successful on the Australian and international rock stages. In 2003, following the release of Diorama, the band announced a hiatus, during which time members recorded with side projects The Dissociatives, The Mess Hall, and Tambalane. Silverchair were reunited at the 2005 Wave Aid concerts, and went on to release Young Modern and play the Across the Great Divide tour with Powderfinger.

Silverchair's sound has evolved throughout their career, differing sounds on specific albums steadily growing more ambitious over the years, from post-grunge on their debut to their more recent orchestral prog-infused chamber-pop. The songwriting and singing of Daniel Johns has been noted as improving steadily while the band has developed an increased element of complexity in later works. Silverchair have sold in excess of 6 million records to date
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

Rhytm Police - Turbo Bells [2008]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

After many years representing elctronic music, Remixing Bands named: Jeansteam, Louie Austin or Sandboy. leroy schlimm and mycrotom are touring live on Stages across Europe, even invited to play on Viennas Radio Station FM4. Born in Ajaccio, Corsica, she goes by the stage name Alizée—the feminine form of alizé, the trade wind.[1] She was discovered by Mylène Farmer, following her winning performance in the talent show, Graines de Star, in 1999. While collaborating with Mylène Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat, Alizée released two albums—both of which were hits inside and outside of France.

Alizée entered the music business in 2000. She has since released three studio albums - first two of which were composed by Laurent Boutonnat and written by Mylène Farmer. Her first album was Gourmandises, which received Platinum certification within three months of release. Gourmandises was a success both in France and abroad—after it had its international launch in 2001—earning Alizée the distinction of being the highest selling female French singer in 2001. The album featured her most successful single "Moi... Lolita" which reached number one in several countries in Europe and East Asia. The marketing campaign around the single affixed Alizée's image as that of a seductive lolita. Gourmandises was followed by a second studio album, Mes Courants Électriques in 2003, which was also quite successful, though not as big a hit as Alizée's debut album. Following its release, Alizée toured France during the fall of 2003, performing in 43 concerts throughout France, along with Belgium and Switzerland.

Alizée married fellow French singer Jérémy Chatelain in late 2003. Since her marriage she took a break from singing, but returned with a new album, titled Psychédélices on December 3, 2007.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

Afghan Whigs - 1965 [1998]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

In 2000, The Afghan Whigs disbanded after a 14-year run. Much has already been written about those days but it's safe to say that the Whigs were one of the most influential and critically-acclaimed bands to come out of the alternative rock scene of the early 90's - well known for songwriter/guitarist/singer Greg Dulli's unflinching lyrics and the bands' consistently amazing live shows.

Fast forward to the present. Dulli's current band, The Twilight Singers, which began as a side project between the AW releases Black Love and 1965, is now a well established act on its own terms, continuing to attract new fans and raise the bar with their live shows and LPs. AW bass player John Curley has 2 kids and runs a recording studio in Cincinnati. Curley's current band, The Staggering Statistics has been receiving attention for its latest CD, "All of this and more..." Lead guitarist Rick McCollum lives in Minneapolis. Rick's band, Moonmaan, is set to release their debut LP in early 2007. Drummer Michael Horrigan has also kept busy- living in Detroit and playing bass in Brendan Benson's band as well as drums in Five Horse Johnson.

Soon, The Afghan Whigs will get together in the studio for the first time since 2000 to record new tracks for inclusion on a Whigs retrospective entitled "Unbreakable" and due out in March or April of 2007.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

The Fiery Furnaces - I'm Going Away [2009]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

Restless sonic chameleons the Fiery Furnaces revolve around the brother and sister duo of Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger, whose prickly childhood relationship and musical family set the stage for their playful, unpredictable music. The Friedbergers' grandmother was a musician and choir director at a Greek Orthodox church near the family's home in Oak Park, IL; their mother, who had a penchant for Gilbert & Sullivan, played piano and guitar and sang; and throughout school, Matthew played standup bass. While the Friedbergers weren't the closest of siblings growing up, after college and separate trips abroad they returned to Oak Park and began working on music together. The pair mixed simple, poppy melodies with a dizzying array of wordplay, sounds, and influences, including the Who, Captain Beefheart, Os Mutantes; dashes of folk, blues, and garage rock; and Eleanor's adventures in Europe. In 2000, they moved to Brooklyn, took day jobs, and began playing as the Fiery Furnaces late in the year.

The Furnaces played their initial gigs at a small club called Enid's and branched out from there, going through several lineups of supporting musicians as they played gigs with the French Kicks, Sleater-Kinney, and Spoon. In 2002, they began working on their first album. By the time they signed to Rough Trade on the basis of their demo, their debut, Gallowsbird's Bark, was completed and the Fiery Furnaces were already at work on the follow-up. Gallowsbird's Bark arrived in fall 2003 and won critical acclaim for its charming kitchen-sink feel, but the band gained more momentum the following year, when praise for the debut album dovetailed with the release of the group's even more diverse and challenging sophomore album, Blueberry Boat, that summer.

The Fiery Furnaces spent much of 2004 touring with Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, Franz Ferdinand, and the Shins, but were already working on their third and fourth albums. Early in 2005, the Furnaces released the simply titled EP, a mini-album gathering most of their B-sides along with a few new songs. That fall, the band returned with Rehearsing My Choir, a challenging stream-of-consciousness album featuring the Friedbergers' grandmother, Olga Sarantos. They moved to Fat Possum for Bitter Tea, a collection of poppier songs that arrived in spring 2006. The following year, the Fiery Furnaces switched to Thrill Jockey and spent the summer and fall touring in anticipation of the '70s rock-influenced Widow City, which was released in October 2007 and was mixed by Tortoise's John McEntire. Remember, a sprawling live album that spliced different versions of the same songs together into collage-like tracks, followed in 2008.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

Empire Of The Sun - Walking On A Dream [2008]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

Empire of the Sun is an Australian electronic music duo formed by Luke Steele of The Sleepy Jackson and Nick Littlemore of Pnau. The duo's name comes from the 1984 novel of the same name by J. G. Ballard, but is not directly named after it.

Their first single titled "Walking on a Dream" was released digitally on August 30, 2008. The single received airtime from many Australian radio stations and has since reached #10 on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart., breaking the record for the longest time taken for a single to reach the Top 10 (23 weeks). It has also made the iTunes charts' top ten. It has as well been released as a free single on April 21, 2009. In reference to the book/film "Empire of the Sun", the music video for the song was filmed in Shanghai, China and was directed by Josh Logue. They released a second single, entitled "We Are The People", which was an exclusive iTunes pre-release single, the video for which was shot in Mexico. "We Are The People" peaked at number twenty-four on the ARIA Charts. The third single, Standing on the Shore was released on iTunes on June 12 and for general release on June 23rd. The video was filmed in Lancelin in April 2009

Their debut album, Walking on a Dream, was released on October 4, 2008, with six tracks from the album released online on their MySpace page in the week prior to the album's release. The album debuted at number eight on the ARIA charts, but has subsequently peaked at number six.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

The Anomalies - Free Soup Social [2009]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

This was not was I expected! It seems previous single Kid Riot was a bit of a curveball as, on Free Soup Social, I was expecting a full on British Beastie-Boys. What weve actually got is Franz Ferdinand gone hip-hop with healthy doses of Jurassic 5-style interludes for good measure. 1830 and Creatures Of Habit for the greater part musically could have easily been outakes from Franz Ferdinands second album if it wasnt for the raps and scratches. Meanwhile, Kid Riot remains a musical joy, bike bells and all, but in the context of the album it sounds very much as if this is the bands Darts of Pleasure - the catchy single that doesnt really define the band as a whole, and who are, to coin a phrase, so much better.

Check out current single, and outstanding track, Old Skool for a good idea of where the band really are. The hip-hop beats are complimentary rather than drivers to their sound. The danger in the past of the hip-hop / indie-pop crossover attempts have been the unsuccessful marriage of two different genres but that doesnt really occur anywhere on the album. However, Jacobs Ladder hints at an assured future in the band - its hip-hop in this track as in most tracks, but again it doesnt feel out of place in the slow moving lament.

A lot of careful thought has gone on to make neither part bigger than the other. With reports of their live act being worth checking, its certainly not a reputation thats been let down by the album and Im sincerely hoping that Ill get the chance to check them out in the near future - a rare thing on the basis of listening to a debut album.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

Elephant Stone - The Seven Seas [2009]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

Brimming with love, hope, longing and timeless pop, Elephant Stone’s debut The Seven Seas is the latest creation from multi-instrumentalist and ex-High Dial Rishi Dhir. Produced by Jace Lasek (The Besnard Lakes) and featuring friends from The High Dials, The Besnard Lakes, and the Dears, The Seven Seas perfectly melds Rishi’s obsession with the perfect pop song and the trippiest raga.

In August 2006, after 6 years, 2 albums, and countless tours across North America and the UK with Montreal’s The High Dials, Rishi decided it was time for him to part ways with the band he co-founded. As the Dials’ bassist, sitar player, and backing vocalist, he played a vital role in defining the band’s sound, but eventually came to the conclusion that his destiny lay elsewhere.

Rishi spent the next year focusing on honing his Indian classical music chops and collaborating with numerous artists both locally and internationally. His sitar-playing can be heard on the latest recordings by Texas-based psyche –rockers, the Black Angels, and Manchester-based UK outfit, the Earlies.

In 2008, Rishi discovered he had gathered a vast back-catalogue of songs written over the past years and Elephant Stone was born.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

Jets Overhead - No Nations [2009]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

Jets Overhead are a Canadian rock band who formed in 2003 and are based out of Victoria, British Columbia. They were nominated for New Group of the Year at the 2007 Juno Awards (Canada's equivalent of the Grammy Awards) after the release of their first full-length album, "Bridges".

Surprisingly, Jets Overhead provide all of their music for free download on their website. It is their view that in the current day and age, with pirating and illegal peer to peer (P2P) networks for downloading music free of charge, it is easier to provide the music in a free form themselves (though the option is given to buy the album at the regular price or make a voluntary donation). They appear to be one of the first bands to have addressed the difficulties of modern day music and what they call the "digital revolution", employing the voluntary purchase and download model a year and a half before Radiohead more famously did it in October 2007 with "In Rainbows".
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

Circulatory System - Signal Morning [2009]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

Circulatory System is a psychedelic rock musical ensemble formed by musician/painter Will Cullen Hart, and featuring Derek Almstead, Suzanne Allison, Peter Erchick, John Fernandes, Nesey Gallons, Charlie Johnston, and Heather McIntosh.

Hart is famous for his work in the Elephant Six Collective as one of the lead players in the The Olivia Tremor Control. Guitarist, keyboardist, and vocalist Justin Sinkovich (ex Atombombpocketknife) first released a solo EP entitled Trailer Park as The Poison Arrows in 2004 on File Thirteen. He, drummer Adam Reach, and bassist Patrick Morris (ex Don Caballero) then began playing together. While completing the overdubbing, editing, and mixing of their first EP Straight Into The Drift in their studio The Plaza, The Poison Arrows began to write songs together as a band. After a year had passed, far more than an album's worth of music materialized.

The Poison Arrows then went into Steve Albini's Electrical Audio Studio A with staff engineer and long- time friend Greg Norman to record the basic tracks for over a dozen songs. After completing the basic tracks at Electrical, all of the overdubs were recorded at The Plaza. As the band continued to finish mixes for First Class, and Forever, the second EP Casual Wave was completed from the same sessions.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

The Lovetones - Dimensions [2009]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

The Lovetones released their debut album, Be What You Want, in 2002 through Bomp! Records. The album was reviewed in Creem and Rolling Stone magazine. The latter hailed Matthew J. Tow's songwriting as being worthy of Ray Davies, Bowie, Lennon and McCartney.

After enjoying the critical success of Be What You Want, touring Australia extensively and even supporting Morrissey during his first-ever solo Australian tour, Tow joined The Brian Jonestown Massacre in 2003 and contributed two tracks to their album, ...And This Is Our Music. Tow's opening track "Starcleaner" later also appeared on the The BJM retrospective Tepid Peppermint Wonderland. In the same year, UK based Fire Records invited The Lovetones to contribute to the James Joyce Chamber Music project alongside Mercury Rev, Sonic Youth and REM's Peter Buck. In 2004, The Lovetones released the Stars EP, coinciding with their support of The Brian Jonestown Massacre on their tour of Australia.

The second album, Meditations, was released through New York's Tee Pee Records in late 2005. Returning from shows in the US in late 2005 and also at SXSW 2006, The Lovetones toured to support Meditations' Australian release in May 2006. In June 2006 The Lovetones completed a European tour across 12 countries with The Brian Jonestown Massacre in support of Meditations, released there through Tee Pee/Cargo Records, culminating in an album review in respected UK magazine Uncut.

The Lovetones also recorded their third album, Axiom, during 2006 with sessions split between Figment Studios in Hollywood and the Sydney Opera House Recording Studio. It was released in June 2007 through Tee Pee Records.

Their fourth album, Dimensions, was released November 4, 2008 in Australia through Undercover Records and April 6, 2009 in North America through Planting Seeds Records.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

Wilco - Wilco (The Album) [2009]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

Wilco is an American rock band based in Chicago, Illinois. The band was formed in 1994 by the remaining members of alternative country group Uncle Tupelo following singer Jay Farrar's departure. Wilco's lineup has changed frequently, with only singer Jeff Tweedy and bassist John Stirratt remaining from the original incarnation. The other current members are guitarist Nels Cline, multi-instrumentalists Pat Sansone and Mikael Jorgensen, and drummer Glenn Kotche. Wilco has released six studio albums, a live double album, and three collaborations: two with Billy Bragg, and one with The Minus 5.

Wilco's music has been inspired by a wide variety of artists and styles, including Bill Fay and Television, and has in turn influenced music by a number of modern alternative rock acts. The band continued in the alternative country of Uncle Tupelo on its debut album A.M. (1995), but has since introduced more experimental aspects to their music, including elements of alternative rock, and classic pop.

Wilco garnered media attention for its fourth album, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2002), and the controversy surrounding it. After the recording sessions were complete, Reprise Records rejected the album and dismissed Wilco from the label. As part of a buy-out deal, Reprise gave Wilco the rights to the album for free. After streaming Foxtrot on its website, Wilco sold the album to Nonesuch Records in 2002. Both record labels are subsidiaries of Warner Music Group, leading one critic to say that the album showed "how screwed up the music business [was] in the early twenty-first century." The direction is one and one only: Out!

Be it from the dark star palm trees of Miami, from the silvercoated buildings in the City of Glass or from the claustrophobic humidity of their now abandoned rehearsal room in Copenhagen, this outfit is running for safety. Out where the stars look like arrows on fire.

As they move, Green Concorde stays true to their pulsating post-punk brand, though some of the sounds characteristic noise has been distilled and filtered, leaving a more soft and atmospheric expression than the one characterizing their previous album, Ten Cities.

And unlike Ten Cities, this album is not a result of hours spent in a cold rehearsal room in a humid basement. Instead the nine songs were written under intimate and private forms; partly in the bandmembers own appartments in Copenhagen, partly in a small cottage in the dark outskirts of Denmark.

The run has begun. Are you ready to follow Green Concorde down the corridor, to the exit, through the gates, out into safety?

Thanks Parkin!!
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

The Ghost is Dancing - Battles On [2009]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

The Ghost Is Dancing is a Canadian indie-pop conglomeration formed out of a group of friends in Toronto, Ontario.

Their first show was performed in August 2004 to commemorate the end of their residency at 2 French Avenue. The original lineup consisted of Kevin Corlis on drums, Jim DeLuca and Jamie Matechuk on guitar and vocals, Odie Ouderkirk on keyboard, Eric Krumins on bass, Jasmine Landau on trumpet and violin, and Gabrielle Nadeau on accordion. Since then, The Ghost Is Dancing has gathered considerable speed (and size), playing shows with The Hidden Cameras, Rogue Wave (band) and The Most Serene Republic, and adding multi-instrumentalists Alt Altman, Ben Deschamps and backing vocalist Lesley Davies. Their self-titled EP was released in January 2006, and they released their debut full-length album, The Darkest Spark, in June 2007.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

The Breeders - Fate To Fatal EP [2009]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

The Breeders are an American alternative rock band formed in 1988 by Kim Deal of the Pixies and Throwing Muses' Tanya Donelly. The band has experienced a number of line-up changes; the current line-up consists of Kim Deal (lead vocals and guitar), her twin sister Kelley Deal (guitar and backing vocals), Jose Medeles (drums and percussion), Mando Lopez (bass guitar) and Cheryl Lyndsey (guitar); Kim Deal has been the band's sole continual member. Their first album, Pod (1990), received critical acclaim but was not commercially successful. The Breeders' most successful album, 1993's Last Splash, produced the hit single "Cannonball". The band's fourth album, Mountain Battles, was released in 2008.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

The Legends - Over and Over [2009]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

The Legends are a Swedish pop band, distributed by Lakeshore Records in the US, by Labrador Records in Sweden and by Little Teddy Recordings in Germany. The Legends were formed in January 2003 and the week after a gig was booked, supporting The Radio Dept. in Stockholm. As the band basically lacked songs and members the first two weeks were spent writing songs and gathering friends who could play, or wanted to play, in the band.

According to The Legends the band play music that can't be placed in a genre, still they're happy to agree on Television Personalities, Comet Gain, Motown and C-86 as inspiration. They received acclaim internationally for their debut album Up Against The Legends released in 2004 in the UK and the US, and have since then released 3 EPs, 1 single and two new albums ("Public Radio" and "Facts And Figures"). A new single "Seconds Away" is due out on Labrador in November 2008.

The band's website says they consist of 9 members, but the band is actually the brainchild of Johan Angergård; Labrador records founder and also of Swedish bands Club 8 and Acid House Kings. They have been described by Swedish Pop Review as "absolutely the best band to emerge from the Swedish indie scene since The Hives".

The Legends song "When The Day Is Done" was a part of the soundtrack for the film Wicker Park
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel

Datarock - Red [2009]

Website
MySpace
Last.fm

Datarock is a Norwegian band. The band describes their sound as "a mixture of musical styles [they] like." A trio of friends, Fredrik Saroea, Ketil Mosnes and Kevin O'Brien, conceived the group while at a festival in Bergen, and soon hired Tom Mæland. O'Brien and Mæland later left the band, but the duo of Saroea and Mosnes continued the project. The band members list their major artistic influences as Devo, Talking Heads and the Happy Mondays. The band has released three EPs and their debut album, Datarock Datarock, was released in 2005 in 10 countries on the band's own label, YAP (Young Aspiring Professionals), receiving favourable reviews, especially in the UK. They made an appearance in Australia's Triple J Hottest 100 with the single "Computer Camp Love" in 2005, placing at #12. This song was #88 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007.

Their song "Fa-Fa-Fa" will be featured in a new Coca Cola advert, and is also featured in NHL 08, FIFA 08 and NBA Live 08 as part of EA Trax. It also appears in The Sims 2: Free Time, and The Sims' video team was asked to create a custom music video for "Fa-Fa-Fa". Another one of their songs, "New Song", is featured in Madden NFL 08. Finally, a remix of "I Used To Dance With My Daddy" is featured in Need For Speed: ProStreet and "True Stories" is featured in FIFA 09.

Datarock was also featured in an Apple advertisement for the fourth generation iPod Nano. The ad showed the song Fa-Fa-Fa playing on an Orange iPod Nano. The coverart for Datarock Datarock was also shown.

Fredrik Saroea also has solo aspirations and has recorded several individual tracks, including a duet with fellow Norwegian pop-star Annie for the song I Will Always Remember You, which has been included on later presses of the band's debut LP.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SrBakedMussel
