Gina has spent the last few months in Hawaii working on our upcoming release with our friend Rob Tsuhako of Off The Rock Studios Maui (who also worked with us on our
“hell hath no fury…” EP)

We have so much to tell you! We’re putting forth a concerted effort to update our blog on a regular basis…so this is the first of our monthly updates.

We’ve been working like wild banshees on a new, more interactive Spindle website . We are creating a Spindle community just for you. You can check in whenever it tickles your fancy, or sign up for a free membership and we’ll send you an update when we’ve got something new to share, like any time we post a blog or upload a new song etc. Members will get exclusive access to benefits such as unreleased photos, candid videos, lyrics, downloads, and new songs in the making.

In addition to everything else, we’ve been working on all kinds of stuff for our upcoming release. Amber’s been hard at work designing our album art…no peeking yet, but it’s going to be incredible. We are still in the studio recording at Bayside Recording Studio in Bellingham, and Bear Creek Studio in Woodinville, while writing new songs along the way.

Maybe it’s the act of coming home, the scent of nostalgia that lingers there for us; or maybe it’s just Hawaii. Sea like stars, stars like sand, sand like silk. It’s magnificent.

Anyway, whatever it is we’re letting it fuel our muses. Along with writing new songs we have been quite inspired to revive some vintage ones that were written well before we relocated to Washington. All the threads are coming together, and it’s creating something we’re quite excited about…we can’t wait to share these songs with you!

Speaking of sharing…we’re starting to book a few shows for this summer…looking into playing some festivals and some shows along the west coast. We can’t promise anything concrete, but if you have a venue suggestion/connection, or any place you’d like to see us play, feel free to drop us a line.

Well, that’s about it for this update. 2009 is an important and exciting year for us. Ten years of creating together, of hoping together, of struggling together, of becoming who we are. It is a treacherous but worthwhile path to walk this wood. Not everyone sees this view, and we’re thankful for those of you who have listened, encouraged, and offered the occasional candle to light our way. It hasn’t been a simple journey, but it has been worth every second. One we will continue and celebrate this year and beyond. Music is our passion, but your love and support makes it that much more significant to let it be our life.

Paradigm is one of those songs that happens when you’re supposed to be recording other songs. I wrote Paradigm in the studio while doing a sound check for my piano tracks. We’re still debating on whether or not to put more instrumentation to the song (bass, drums, glockenspiel, etc), so her home will be here until we know what we want to do with her!

We had to take down our cover of Reptile to make space for Paradigm on Myspace, but it is still available on our website (http://www.spindleband.com/) and the video is up on YouTube.

We will keep Paradigm up for a little while until it’s exchanged for another goodie…

We have been meaning to thank everyone that came out to see us at our show a few Tuesdays ago at the Rogue. I know we had quite a few people that traveled quite a distance (B.C., Seattle, Portland, and to my surprise Minneapolis). We really really had a great time because of you all.

Many of you wondered why we don’t play out much. There are a plethora of reasons, the main one being our focus. We really pour everything into creating these songs, and since we have been working on an album we have been completely depleted. It’s not a bad thing, just have to take a few steps at a time. It’s hard to remember that there are only three of us bringing all of this to you…

We’ve posted a scratchy demo of Nightwings on myspace.com/spindleband for you to zone out to. Unfortunately MySpace cuts out most of the low end…which is the presence of this particular song.

We are proud to unleash a sliver of ourselves to you…

Quicksilver was written well over a decade ago. It’s hard to believe that our demons have not forsaken us for time. While they suck the very life from our bones I know that it only brings us closer together.

Sometimes a song can really take from you. These are usually the best.

This amazing self destructive art form is a gift made of our very own sweat, blood, and tears. These broken hearted, pillow soaked, wrist slitting years have been all worth it.

Nothing is more important than giving these gifts to the most beautiful of people…to you.

As most of you may know we have been feverishly working on a self titled full length album for too long. It was a beast, and at times we wondered if it would ever see the light of day.

December was coming to an end and a new year was beginning…this is when we took a real left turn…and had a true epiphany. We decided to drop the old album, all the work that we put in it, all the money, and time, frustration and heartache…and a new album was born.

We now have a new direction.

Since January, our hands have been glued to our instruments, our ears stuffed in headphones, and our brains wrapped around our new conception. All our time has been spent writing new songs, reinventing old ones, jamming together, and constantly strengthening this new concept album.

Most musicians understand all that it takes to make a record. There is so much involved…physically, mentally and emotionally. It becomes your child…you want to spend all your time with it, play with it, hug it, love it, and make it love you back!

Your album becomes your life…until it grows up, and you can push it out of the nest.

August will be quite a memorable month. We are not going to be recording this album ourselves, which is a first for Spindle! We are handing this tedious task over to a mastermind Engineer/Producer and we’ll be recording our first session at Bear Creek Studio in Woodinville, Washington.

Bear Creek is an amazing place; a converted barn located on acres of secluded forest. It hosts a plethora of different recording rooms including: The Big Room, The Wood Room, and The Hippy Room. And aside from the decadent recording options, the location is absolutely gorgeous and unbelievably inspiring.

They’ve recorded artists such as Team Sleep, Alice in Chains, Built to Spill, Modest Mouse, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Gossip, Lionel Richie, The Album Leaf, Blonde Redhead, The Black Heart Procession, Tragically Hip, Eric Clapton, Pretty Girls Make Graves and more.

Many of those artists have inspired us through the years…it’s an honor to be recording in the same creative place as them. We are so excited!

We’ll be writing a daily blog and posting photos while we’re in the studio. It’s our way of sharing our experience with you.

This past Saturday, on the seventh day…in the seventh month…of the seventh year…we made a big decision as a band to take a break…

Growing, and exploring new landscapes…going beyond ourselves…for a brief moment in life…

Spindle would like to thank everyone that came out to the show last Saturday. There is surrealism like no other that we enter into while performing. It is always inspiring to meet people that not only listen to our songs, but who also share the same love of music, and the sanguine atmosphere it creates.

Unfortunately not everyone’s best interest is in the music. I’m mainly pointing fingers at the sharks who make a considerable living off of live music, and then make it considerably difficult for the musicians to justify supporting their own music scene. This is, no doubt, why there is such a popularity and monetary decline in many local music scenes, affecting anyone from venues to performers. Just a few observations that we’ve picked up on in the few years we’ve been here in Bellingham, Washington.

Nevertheless, we are gaining speed…creeping into this year’s hopeful and better half. The first day of summer. So far, it has been a mild one here in Washington, which is really quite pleasant. With any luck this will be the beginning of a stream of abundant times, full of surprises that we have been dying to share with you…
