They rightly thought it may be a backlight issue, but I recommended they try hooking up the laptop to an external monitor to be sure it is not an inverter, or video card problem. If the problem is the backlight, then in some cases, the screen flashes on in red and pink and then goes off. The person wants to run Quickbooks in Ubuntu.  He can't run it with Wine, and of course, there is no Quickbooks version for Linux.  One commenter named nnonix recommended quickbooks online which is a good idea and may be the best solution.
