Windows 7

As you all know, i just luckily won a brand new PC by participating in the Qui veut gagner un PC game, and now the hardware allows me to run newer OS. Today i installed XP, Vista and Windows 7 on the same PC(triple boot, all genuine) And i must say, windows 7 is a world apart! The best UI i’ve used.. its even better than Ubuntu GUI.

For all those who are fan of tidiness and performance! 7 is for you! I could write a whole article on this, but we’ll keep that for next time.

A Little Change

There will be no more illegal download stuff on SozZz.net, im referring to TV-Shows downloads. I am , as from now, cancelling all piracy-related activities on my blog. The articles still here will be removed ASAP. Anyways.. most of the links do not work. Though open-source stuff and freewares will continues to rain!

The semi finals

(unfortunately i forgot to take a picture of this one)

100 contestants were selected and invited for the “semi finals” at the UOM Auditorium. A questionnaire with very easy questions were distributed to each participant, and the Top 10 were chosen to go in the finals. (Well.. i wasn’t in the top 10, unfortunately)

The audience special prize

Those who didn’t qualify for the top-10 were given each a free ticket for the finals, held the same day at 6.30pm. There was going to be an SMS question for the audience, and the one who would answer the fastest could also get a PC to take home.

The finals

The stage was really grandiose. Just by the looks of it, you knew this wasn’t organized by amateurs. The decoration, the lights, the sound, the cameras, the host, everything was really very good.

There were two rounds, 15 question each, and the winner of each round would go in the finals and win the laptops.

The two selected finalist made it to the final round. Who was going to win the Dell Vostro?!

If i remember the names correctly, Chris and Zohair were the two finalist. I can tell you, it was a neck to neck until the last question! Which was a really easy question, What was the original codename of Vista. answer is Longhorn obviously.

The winner was Zohair. Congrats dude!

The sponsors were very generous! The Top-10 got the Emtel Broadband + a Wireless Desktop(Keyboard and mouse). The runner up got an Acer Travelmate TM5330, the the winner of course, got the Dell Vostro. Gift vouchers, and free training at Pascal Computers were also part of the prizes!

A General Comment

Even though i am a blogger, and i deal with computers everyday, if not every hour of my ongoing life, i must admit that there were some things that i didn’t know about Piracy and the Computer World as a whole. I learnt a lot, and i don’t regret going to attend the finals! I encourage everybody to participate in these contests and i hope that the next one is soon.

I believe that the videos of the show will soon be available on SpinTv. I still cannot see proper pictures of the event on L’express.mu (an official sponsor). If i see any, i will ask them permission(yea! i will) to take some photos for my blog and facebook! Sorry for the quality of the pictures… that all i could achieve with my phone (the phone that won me a PC)

16th June has been a on the most emotional-ly-heavy day of my entire life… memorable indeed.

Also known as the “mini-world-cup” , the FCC(Fifa confederations Cup) will be held in South Africa, just some month before the actual Football World Cup Finals. However, do you know what the confederation cup it? Why are teams like England and Argentina not participating?

What is the Confederation Cup

It is very right to refer to the FCC as the mini-world-cup, you shall see why. There are only 8 countries participating. And each country is representing a continent! Each of those eight countries have had to match against the best neighbor countries in their respective continent to get qualified. You must me wondering.. there are only 6 continents, why eight countries? Well, the two other countries are : The Host Country(S. Africa) & The World Cup Champions(Italy)

Egypt is representing Africa, hence Mauritius! To be noted that, it is possible in the future to have official Mauritius vs. Italy/Spain/Brazil matches through the FCC. The MRU guys just need to become champions of Africa! I admit that theory is nowhere near reality.. but HOPE. Yes we can!

United States of America and Iraq are not in the same group. BIG LOL. I doubt both could qualify to the next stage of the competition, but it would have been a great match, and it probably would have had more media coverage than the Brazil v Italy match.

Our national television channel recently announced that they will broadcast all the matches of the FCC live. Which is a great new! The matches will air(from what i’ve heard) at a frequency of two match per day, at 6.00pm and 10.00pm. Its really perfect from my point of view.

Frank Lampard almost cried when Xavi netted the only shot on target for Barca in the 2nd leg at the 93rd minute of the match. Barcelona goes through on Away-Goals rule. Very unfair according to most humans who watch football. But I’m still glad that Chelsea is out. I’m fed up of UTD v CFC matches

Sorry for not blogging since so long. I’m finally back.

I still do not know which team will support tomorrow night(27 May 09). I bet you know yours! It is going to be the dream final i always wanted to see before i die! And i am just rightly served. This might be the last match of Carlos Tevez as a red devil. Best of Luck to both teams! May this match be a classic.

Since last week i got a new toy! Adobe Fireworks and its Pen Tool. I always loved Photoshop and all the amazing things you could do with 2-D Graphic manipulation.. but in the end.. you realize that if u don’t have any material(pictures, ideas, brushes, gradients, ideas and ideas) you cant do any great things in Photoshop. Creating something *good* from scratch is something you can be proud of. I started experimenting with Adobe Fireworks and drawing and tracing things with its tools. and I’m going to share my first *complete* Illustration just below.

Hello dear readers.. Something really strange happened tonight(yeah its night). I was chatting with two friends online(msn). Namely : Prof Varun and Tushal. We were trying some hacks(ethical) on each other. Prof Varun tried to hack me, he didn’t succeed. I told him that i did hack him. He didn’t believe me. So we placed a bet! One Orange Card RS 100 for me if i succeed.. else i give him that card. So.. here’s where Tushal comes into the picture! He’s the witness , just to make sure Prof Varun gives me my card. So We explained the rules to Tushal, and guess what??

Sun (me) successfully hacked Prof Varun

So.. being a man of honor, Prof Varun said ok.. he’ll send me the card. RS20 per day.. for 5 days.. which makes a total of 100. He sent me RS20 via E-Voucher and i got the confirmation message!

Orange Bug??

Two minutes later, i get a call from unknown number  I take the call, no one answers. So.. logically i call back. A girl takes the phone    I am like : uhh… who are you?

She explains : I got a “Confirmation SMS” from ORANGE, stating that I SENT YOU Rs20.

Sun : Yeah, i got Rs20 . Varun sent me. U know him?

She :  explains : No. But? uhh? I got message..

Sun: ok ok.. wait i’l ask him.

Hang up – Battery down – mobile off

Mobile On – Luckily the num was still in LOGS

Checking

I checked the confirmation sms that i received. It wasn’t Varun’s num. It was the girls’

Varun checked his credit. It was intact.

Varun sent me Rs20 again. Just to check what happens. This time no bug. I got the credit with a confirmation sms stating Varun’s number.

What happened??

Varun sent me the money. His credit was intact! Instead, that

girl’s credit was deducted and i got the money +

confirmation sms. The girl also got a confirmation sms!!

Funny thing : SHE DID NOTHING. we dont even know her

Man United got beaten by fulham tonight.. Chelsea got beaten by Totenham.. i am so happy.. I am generous tonight.. so like a good boy.. i sent the gurl her rs20 back..

The number isnt from Mauritius obviously. I wonder who what where why when?? Is this a message from the future me?? OMG!!

Google just made the new BETA for Chrome available for download!

For those who don’t know. Google Chrome is a modern web browser that has been developed by Google(obviously) . This web browser has been created in order to fit TODAYS ONLINE DEMANDS. Though it still need some year to rival with Firefox 3. It is a very “sweet” and good-looking browser. It doesn’t stick to the default Windows Theme. It has its own look and enables the user to get a maximum screen space.

As you can see, the TABS are the Title Bars..(if anyone knows any extension that can make Firefox similar.. please let me know)

Docking

You can Resize tabs and dock them “side by side”.. quite handy.. check out the pictures below.

Click And Drag any Tab

As you can see, the tab pops out of the window and sticks to your cursor. you can release it anywhere and it will appear in another window.

The thing is! Dont just release it anywhere! There are Four predefined “Spots” on which you can throw the tabs and expect different actions.

1. The top of your monitor, in the middle: The tab appears maximized in a new window when you release it.
2. The bottom of your monitor, in the middle: The tab appears in a new window that fills the lower half of your monitor.
3. The left and right sides of your monitor, in the middle: The tab opens in a new window that fills up either the left or right half of your monitor.
4. The bottom of a browser window, in the middle: The tab appears in a new window below the existing browser window. The two windows splits the monitor in half.
5. The left and right sides of a browser window, in the middle: The tab opens in a new window that fills up either the left or right half of your monitor. The existing browser window takes up the other half of the monitor, so that the two windows appear side-by-side.

This way.. you can easily dock windows side by side..

Full Page Zoom

That’s a great improvement. Previously When you zoom a page in Chrome, only the Text would increase in size. Which was a real “Pain” when reading scanned anime online. Yuppi! That’s now solved, The zoom feature literally zooms the who page.

Tip : Hit CTRL + 0 to return to 100% zoom level(original size)

Auto Scroll

The quite useless(for me) Auto Scroll option is now available.. just Middle Click on the page to make it appear. You can scroll through the page Up-Down/Left-Right simply my moving you cursor around the “AutoScroll Cursor” (Highlighted in red below)

App Shortcut

Last but not the least.. this is something that existed in previous version of Chrome too, and most of you probably don’t know it. The  “Create an Application Shortcut” option enables you to create a shortcut for an online application, right on you desktop! There are many advantage to this. ontinue reading.

I will demonstrate how to create an application shortcut for my Gmail.

• Login Gmail using Chrome
• Click the Pages Menu and select “Create Application Shortcut”

You get a nice little prompt that asks you to choose from the above options.. quite straight  forward. Clik OK after you had your choice.

*drum rolls* Here you are! a very neat Gmail Icon shows up on the desktop

Some advantages of AppShortcut:

You get the Maximum Screen Space that can be obtained while not using Full screen mode.

Launching the Application is faster as you just have to double click the desktop Shortcut(no need to type URL)

You sometimes want to Separate Applications for WebPages, especially while using apps such as Google Docs. You want to  keep them away from other websites(in the same window) just to make the organization on screen neater.)

Rooney out to finish off Liverpool

Wayne Rooney reckons United can finally end Liverpool’s lingering title hopes with victory at Old Trafford on Saturday.

We’re in pole position in the title race and we know if we can beat Liverpool on Saturday then that’ll more or less end their chances of winning the league," the striker told MUTV.

Benitez hopes to become Centurion!

 Rafa Benitez is hoping his side can make him a centurion when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime.

Should Liverpool take all three points, Benitez will become the third fastest manager in Liverpool’s history to clock up 100 league wins.

United manager Alex Ferguson took 231 matches to arrive at his ton.
Of more concern to Benitez, however, is the impact a win tomorrow would have on Liverpool’s campaign. "If we win then we can still think about the title; if you cannot do that it will be almost impossible to win the title," he added.

Well.. i saw some very good teams on the carpet today. The “Barcelona v/s Spain” Match was the most intense according to me.(yeah, they wear jerseys of Barca and Spana Respectively). The match Ended (5-2) with a win of “Barcelona”. I dont know the name of the teams.

 

The Referee

I bet. All the players HATE those two referees. For simple tackles, they book you and you are out for 2 minutes. Four of our players got booked and we played with only 4 players during most of the match.

Other teams suffered the same sozzz. You are not allowed to kick the ball hard on the uom facility. What if u missed??? I genuinely missed a kick, and i got booked for 2 minutes + a yellow card.

I crossed this while randomly checking out some free wordpress themes(i don’t know where). I downloaded some.. and tried them out.. I had no real hope.. but the.. it was love at first sight with the theme… Well.. i find it really great.. and the comment forms and the way it displays the content.It also has 3 Columns! WOW! JACKPOT! I tweaked it a little(really.. i mean it). And i think its now ready. Of course.. some little unexpected changes will come..

The Journey was of 3 days. Needless to say, all of us were really very tired(still tired).

History

Origins of the Maha Shivratri – In 1897 Shri Jhummon Giri Gosagne, a ‘pujari’ (priest) of Triolet saw in a dream the water of the lake of Grand Bassin springing from the ‘Jahnvi’, thus forming part of Ganga. The news of the dream spread rapidly and created quite a stir in the Hindu community. The following year, pilgrims trekked to Grand Bassin to collect its water to offer to Lord Shiva on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri. The lake was then known as the ‘Pari Talao’,

Every Year Since Then, People from the hindu community unterdake the pilgrimage from their home to the (now known as) Ganga Talao.

I was on the roads, and I will speak from what i saw and compare the event  to last year’s.

CLEAN.

The Organizers did a really good job. You could see people with their plastic bag cleaning the road(near Grand Bassin), keeping it as clean as possible.

Road.

The Road

The Road was extended (again), so that there would be a better traffic flow, and to make the last few Kilometers More comfortable for those  walking.

Parking

Taken care of. But still NOT ENOUGH. More than 100 000 people converging toward on point, obviously, the parking will eventually get filled, for consequence, a traffic jam on the ONLY ROAD TO GRAND BASSIN.

Some people were stuck 6 hours in the traffic jam, Neither Could move Forward, nor backwards.  (Around Mare Aux Vacoas)

Food Distribution at Grand-Bassin

The queues were way too long, and those who came to Grand-Bassin on foot didnt really get to eat there, simple because they could not afford to stand in a long queue. Maybe the dudes should do something for this.

Toilets

Is it just my imagination, or did they actually build new toilets ONLY FOR LADIES. WTF???

The Event (as a whole)

No Major Accidents.

The Policeman were everywhere, and they were controlling the situation. Hats off to them. They did a very good job.

Lights

There wasn’t a single Place where there was no light(in the night). Thanks to all the people who let their light on for the sake of the passing by’s, and thank to the Public Road and Infrastructure Dept for the Good organization.

Not only Hindus

Proud to be Mauritian. In this event, there were not only Hindu’s walking. I saw Some Chinese People, some Christian, loads of Tamils and Telugu, and even some foreigners. This event has become Nation Wide.

Food Distribution on the road.

We walked at night, and we did not get food until we reached vacoas. Advice to those Leaving home at night, take some food with you. When the Sun Started Shining, there was an abundance of food on the road.  Thanks  to all  those volunteers helping!

Issues

Kawar

Yes, those big artistic *things* that people carry. Some of them were absolutely gorgeous, and some WAY TOO BIG!! For instance, the one coming from “petite riviere” surely shocked everybody. It took almost both lanes of the roads, and blocked traffic in both direction.At place, It was so high that it could not pass by some electric lines X-meters in the air.

Their was an announcement on the television by the president of a famous religious organization that suggested , Do not build BIG kawars. That announcement was made 3 DAYS BEFORE people set out for grand bassin. What re they?? Crazy??? People start building those 40 days before they set off.

Moreover, Policeman cannot stop them. For the good and simple reason that you have already understood.

Suggestions for Kawars

Make a request about this on TV, Radio, Newspaper, ONE MONTH BEFORE the EVENT. Put a Limit, kawars width should NOT exceed the width of ONE LANE. I believe there are some people who would still be “tro exciT” to make the big ones, at least, they cannot say “i did not know “

Roads

We al know there’s only one way to reach grand bassin and one way to exit grand bassin. Wouldn’t it considerably reduce traffic problems if there was another road?? Sure it would cost a lot, but it would solve a lot of problems. I believe it is worth.

What Next?????

We went to Ganga Talao, Returned, with the water. What do we do with that? Well, Everybody goes to the mandir(mom waiting for him!)  in his locality and pour the water over the shivling there. This i a symbol of sacrifice, respect and devotion.

Sunday Monday night. The MAHA SHIV RATREE,(translation, the great night of Lord Shiva, all those who have been fasting will go to the temples in their localities and spend the whole night (till morning) praying. This prayer is divided into 4 parts and thus called(4 peher ki pooja) pooja?? pooja? lol.. 

The Kawar Dance

Upon Reaching Home with the kawar, it is traditional that a dance is performed in from of the temple! Here s video i had the chance to Film. 2 Minutes. Enjoy.

Some Maths

Based on Google Earth Length Calculation. Distance from my home to Gbassin is 38.9 Kms. So Considering the curves and all. Round it to 45 Kms.

Time take from home 11pm to 10.30 am. 11hr 30 minutes. Excluding the resting time and all.

Using sozz’s equation of speed.

Speed = 45/ 11.5

Speed = 3.9….

Approximate Speed = 4 Km/h

Today i went to Kaylason (The big kovil in St-Croix to help friends distribute juice to those pilgrims who walk for such a long distance.

As all Mauritians know, they pierce their body with pins.. hang lemons and lots of other stuff  and walk. They inflict suffering to their physical body in order to purify themselves(correct me if i am wrong).

So i stood there.. and seriously! more than 100 of those cavadee they carry passed in front of me. so obviously i took a lot of pics! You can view the album below.

They have to go three times around this kovil before they can relieve themselves from their cavadee.

I was in the Communications Skills Class and it was nearly 4pm(time to end the class), and Some guys came from outside and said its class 2, the lecture ends here. Damn!! Couldnt they have come earlier?? nevertheless… the lecture was damn interesting!

So i walked in the rain… as much as i could. My friends say i am crazy.. i dragged them too.. In front of Mc Donalds, i saw a girl, she resselbled a girl that i knw , and i touched her hand.. and damn! it wasnt her!!

Came home… after an adventurous journey home…

Some questions:

When its Cyclone Warning Class 2, Schools and Uni release because Class 2 is considered as dangerous. Right? So yeah.. release the students in the dangerous weather itself! Wot an intelligent decision!! Franc Franc tou!!

(not a judgement… just lighting room for improvement..)

Outcome : All Schools and Uni’s are released simultaneously, with consequence :  MASSIVE TRAFFIC JAM!!! When i saw MASSIVE,  I MEAN MASSIVE. From rochebois to port louis. Cars are moving like snails.

And finally when i came home! The joke of the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Check this out!

Seriously?? How was this supposed to inform me while i was in class??

Its nice that the use mass mail to communicate to students.. but come’on!!

For those who come from Mars, The name of the Cyclone is Gael and its coming head on MRU. I say, come baby come..

And Miss Chaya says i cant shine… there’s cyclone.. But i guess i’l continue to shine! in ur msn contact list! Jai ho!
