So many Sydney women say they are surrounded by mere boys, so much so that when they meet one of the rare ones, an actual man,he stands out a mile. What is it that stands out? What makes a man a man?

Men, ask yourself these questions and women perhaps pose them to the man in your life.

Question: Do you know what you want in life?

Question: Are you resolute? Are you willing to go for it, even in the face of failure?

Question: Can you stay strong within yourself yet be open and kind to women and their changing nature?

Question: Do you adapt easily because you are clear about where you are going and strong enough to change how you get there?

Question: Is your heart open to the world, undefended and willing to carry on in the face of hardship?

Question: If you have children, when you are with them, are you really with them?

As a man do these questions make you uncomfortable? They should! Most men are so shut down on their own personal truth that they could not properly answer these questions. The ones that are open and honest will know that these questions are supposed to make you uncomfortable. One aspect of being a man is knowing your truth despite that discomfort. Women love men that know who they are and are willing to commit to it despite it sometimes being tough and troublesome.

There are so many conflicting ideas about what a real man is. A hundred years ago it was well known that being a man was about working hard, going to war, smoking and drinking and putting women in their place. Times are more enlightened now but much less defined.

There are many men running around today who are not really men and not really boys either. They are lost in the wilderness without proper guidance into manhood. They don’t know how to follow their heart with strength and the vision to see them through adversity. They are likely to die without ever having made a difference in way that is meaningful to them. They think they have to be superheroes to have a meaningful impact on the world when all they have to do is be true to themselves and give their best each day. We know it’s not that easy though, seeking guidance is wise, contact the author of this article as a starting point.

A real man is able to love his family because he knows himself. He is able to achieve something meaningful because he trusts himself. He can hold a vision for the future because he has been through adversity. He can do these things because he has faced the tests that birth a boy into manhood. He has received guidance from his own inner core or from a wise often older man or both. Unfortunately many men are reduced to fantasies which are so often repeated that they begin to believe them and create a fragile outer shell that protects from a sense of emptiness inside.

If as a man you know you are craving something that is missing but don’t know what it is you can get more in touch with it and attain it by applying some of the following disciplines.

• Speak your truth just a little more each day. Say what you mean and mean what you say.
• Wonder what you really want for a few minutes a day and do something small toward it. Be consistent.
• When you talk to people, look them in the eye and calm yourself.

As you might guess, there is a lot to the masculine journey. There are groups popping up all over where men help men to be better men by being truthful with themselves. One such group called ‘Man Up’ is run by Peter Hagerty and Brock Bowen of The Source Foundation.

Over the last 50 years, we have slowly robbed boys of their opportunities to do what they need to in order to step into manhood. The result is that we have very few role models and guides to show boys how they can empower themselves and serve the world with this power.

Stepping into maturity as a man is something that many adult males have never been given the opportunity to do. The Awakening Warrior Weekend offers adult males the opportunity to undergo the transition into manhood that will empower them to:

• Face the tests of the world without flinching.
• Awaken natural and effortless confidence.
• Uncover their unique gift to the world.
• Conquer fear and hesitation.
• Honour both themselves and other men
• Honour women.
