SJP Shoe Line - New Details

Sarah Jessica Parker spoke on a variety of subjects from her first fashion influence (her mother) to her years running in heels, literally, on the set "Sex & the City."

"I was in heels sometimes 18 to 20 hours a day on set. I never took them off, but I wasn’t in pain," Parker said.

The star's line of shoes, bags and trench coats, part of a partnership with Manolo Blahnik U.S. CEO George Malkemus, will hit Nordstrom stores exclusively in January.

On the whole package:
“We thought [about the metropolitan New York woman]. A beautiful coat, bag and pair of shoes — they all kind of go together. It seemed tight. It didn’t seem like we were trying to sell a bunch of junk to people.”

On her personal footwear knowledge:
“I’ve spent so much time in shoes". Most people do !! "I had been a ballet dancer so I don’t know, maybe I prepped my feet with pointe shoes.”

On her earliest fashion influence:
“I grew up in a house where my mother had beautiful taste. She admired Rose Kennedy and how she raised her children, and was drawn to people who would open her eyes. ... She would get The New Yorker and The New York Times and she would just read and read.

[My mother] had no financial means, but she did her best. She would go to church tag sales in wealthy neighborhoods and find all the beautiful navy-blue Vuitton suits that the families had grown out of and donated to the church, and all the great saddle shoes and pinafores she could get her hands on. She would make our own black watch plaid jumpers for the fall. ... Polly Flinders had beautiful dresses for young girls. They were hand-smocked with wide sashes and big full skirts. They happened to be made in [my hometown] Cincinnati. My mother would get up and go to the factory and buy [the dress with flaws in them] for 99 cents. But there was really nothing wrong with them. We were raised seeing a lot of beauty and [understanding] what a well-made dress was.”

On her early memories of grosgrain, which will be a signature material in the footwear line:
“I grew up having to wear grosgrain hair ribbons every day. We had a [bureau] dedicated to them.”

Counterfeit Purses...Not in NYC

Shoppers from around the world go to Canal Street for a great deal on "designer" handbags that are both cheap and fake.
But, if a City Councilwoman has her way that is all about to change — she is targeting the buyers.
“We want to sort of cut down on the demand,” said Councilwoman Margaret Chin (D-1st).
Chin said Sunday that she plans to introduce a bill that would slap a $1,000 fine on both the sellers and people caught buying the fake Chanel and Prada bags. Violators could also face a year in jail.
While selling the counterfeit handbags has always been illegal, there has been no legislation targeting buyers, Chin said.

Valerie Salembier, who heads the nonprofit Authentics Foundation which educates consumers about the counterfeit industry notes that in France, tourists are warned about fakes since counterfeit buyers “risks fines of up to 300,000 euros and up to three years in prison for the mere possession of a counterfeit item.
It’s why they don’t have a big problem with counterfeits in France.

“People are worried that some innocent middle-aged woman might unwittingly purchase a [counterfeit] bag,” Chin said. “If you go into a back room, basement or van, you probably know what you’re doing is not legal.”

Sarah Jessica Parker announced that she’s got a fashion line in the works 15 yars after the debut of Sex and the City. Has it really been 15 years?
Sarah focused on footwear, no surprise considering that as the well-heeled Carrie Bradshaw she helped turn Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin into household names. “Because I got to play that role, I wore a lot of shoes, and by default I learned an enormous amount,” the actress told Vogue. “It’s hard to – no pun intended – walk away from that.” Parker’s business partner is George Malkemus, who is the CEO of Manolo Blahnik.
The Spring 2014 line will include 35 to 40 styles of flats and high heels priced between $200 and $300. “I have to know that we’re producing shoes I’m going to wear,” Parker told FN. “I’m not going to try and sell someone shoes that aren’t going to be good enough for me to wear myself.”
Parker's label, will hit the shelves at Nordstrom early next year.

Apparently Spider-Woman chic is a new trend!
Did their paths crossed and were they even mildy embarrassed ?
Both Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lopez stepped out on the Chime for Change red carpet in different versions of the same Gucci, web-front dress.
We're not sure insect attire works outside of the Halloween season, especially in the top-to-bottom leather version that J.Lo rocked. So while she may be taking the bigger fashion risk, Jessica gets the reward for her toned-down version of this already over-the-top outfit.
Of the two, Jessica looks less like the Disney villain. Which is why we're picking her as the winner. But what's your take?

Kerry Washington’s rise to fame after starring in Django Unchained and ABC hit series Scandal (We LOVE Scandal), introduced her late to the world of celebrity and fashion which means that the 36-year-old star has a different kind of appreciation for it.
"I wasn’t one of these girls in high school that thought about it at all. I went to an all-girls school where you wear your pajamas during finals week. But because I came to it later in life, I really see the art in it," Kerry said.
"Today I'm wearing Tamara, Monique Lhuillier, the necklace is Lamont, and a Movado watch. I don’t know who these shoes are, Louis Vuitton maybe?" Kerry explained about her outfit. As for designers, I don’t have one particular design house that I’m committed to or loyal to. I think because I came to this later in life, I really came to fashion through my career." Jessica Simpson the singer-turned-fashion designer has a huge clothing empire, and shared her knowledge of the industry with the winner Hunter Bell, of Fashion Star.
Along with Jessica, who has the highest grossing celebrity brand in history, the Fashion Star hopefuls were guided by successful style icon Nicole Richie and menswear designer John Varvatos
She may not have reached her goal without the help of mentor Jessica.
“I worked closely with Jessica, and she was always a sounding board for me to stay true to my own design aesthetic, but also very encouraging with the advice of making sure to show off a women’s curves with my designs and to be more sexy with them,” Hunter said.

Rihanna the international superstar has previewed her new line in a behind-the-scenes video for the high street store.
"I just wanted stuff that I wanted to wear because at the end of the day that's what got me into designing - seeing things on the rack that were great, but that could have been a little more me," she revealed.
"Maybe they could have been a little longer or shorter, or have a little more sex appeal or a little less. I wanted to make clothes for fat days; stuff that I want to wear. I was being selfish.” The stunning star revealed how she came to create each garment.
"I made a piece for everybody in my crew, we all have different body types and different tastes - some are braver than others," she said.
"I think like that because that's how women in the world are. We're all different, we like different things, we have different occasions and different moods."
Rihanna's newest line for River Island is due to arrive in stores on May 25.

Kate Hudson has a refreshingly easy-going sentiment when it comes to her fashion sense.
"I'm very body oriented, I want to feel freedom in my movement. I don't like to feel constricted in clothes, and I've never been into structure. It's got to be comfortable,"
Kate's mother Goldie Hawn is famed for her glamorous attire. The blonde beauty loves her mom's look and is annoyed that some of her beautiful clothes were never saved for her.
"My mother didn't keep any of her clothes and it's one of my biggest disappointments," she admitted.
"I remember watching my mom's make-up artist put on her make-up, it was so amazing to watch a face transform. I grew up knowing that make-up could tell a story," she smiled.

Hair parts have moved away from the middle this Spring. Sleek and dramatically parted hair graced many designer runway shows this season.

Gianfranco Ferre showed pulled back gelled hair with a deep V part creating a perfectly polished look.

Rodarte created an exaggerated slick down side part.
It is so off the side it looks like my father's comb over.

Coach Purses Win Case

Locals and tourists alike flock to Canal Street in New York City’s Chinatown, a major destination for finding fake designer brand handbags, wallets, and other accessories “Handbag, handbag? Miss?” “Louis Vuitton? Coach? Gucci?”is what you hear.
But now Coach has won a counterfeiting case, being awarded $8 million dollars in damages.

Besides its definitive win in the case of Coach Inc. et al v. Celco Customs Services Co. and Shen Huei Feng Wang, Coach scored an important victory in the fight against counterfeiting by holding the customs brokerage firm (who filed fraudulent customs entry documents that allow these products to enter the United States) which acts as the middle man between importers and customs—accountable. Nancy Axilrod, vice president and deputy general counsel for Coach, called the case a landmark since “lawsuits against customs brokers are almost nonexistent.” But this is where it should began, to rid the industry of fake purses and other designer accessories...at the head of the snake.

We love Kerry but really. She is one of our style divas, but this frock was on trend years ago. We never got the high low hemline. She certainly got the legs to rock it and honestly Kerry never looks bad.

Ke$ha, dressed in embroidered sheer bell bottoms, fringed vest, black hat and severe makeup—black lipstick, a goth look. Not a red carpet look.

Hana Mae Lee-Now this is just plain silly. A cigarette butt as head wear? I'm sure she was the butt of some jokes.

Wear a girdle. Now this was passed on from my Grandmother to my Mom, who tried to pass it on to me. Well Granny was ahead of her time since 30 years later we now have what we call shapewear.

When in doubt wear black. They didn't invent the LBD because your Mother was wrong. Black is chic and slimming dressed up or casual.

Quality over quantity! This goes without saying. In today's disposable fashion world only spend on classic pieces. Never spend bucks on trendy items.

If is doesn’t look good on you, it’s not in fashion. Fashion is what makes you happy.

Put some lipstick on. No matter where you are going you will look and feel your best.

Last but certainly not least, where the right undergarments. No outfit will look good with panty lines or the wrong color underwear. Look in a full length mirror before you leave the house.

Brick and mortar stores have alot of competition with the internet. Who doesn't go shopping only to go online and find out who has the size and the price that we want..we are savvy consumers, aren't we? Well along comes this Brisbane, Australia store, which are taking extreme measures. The store is now charging people a $5 “just looking” fee in the hopes of deterring them from using the store as a physical showroom, and then running off to buy the same products online. If the customer ends up buying something, the $5 fee is waived.
Many business owners, from companies as large as Best Buy to small businesses like this one, can surely relate to the frustrations of seeing people use their store as a testing ground. But on the other hand, if you have competitive prices and hard-to-find products, do you really need to be charging a $5-a-head browsing fee? Brick and mortar stores face a lot of challenges in competing with the Internet. We're living in an age where you can get just about anything you want from somewhere on the web, and even better you can easily browse multiple sellers, and find the best price. It's been a great thing for consumers, but not for all businesses. To complicate things even further for brick and mortars, the rise of smartphones has made it easy for consumers to walk into a store, browse the inventory, and comparison shop right from within. Stores risk losing customers to competitors before they've even left the store.
Even though I can feel the pain of the brick and mortar stores,(what will happen to all the stores,)is it smart for businesses to charge customers for browsing without buying? Let us know what you think in the comments.

Americans buy an average of 68 garments and eight pairs of shoes a year, according to the American Apparel and Footwear associations. We never used to amass that much, writes New York author Elizabeth Cline, but shoppers want to buy what is trendy and "in", the cheapest styles that lead to disposable fashion.
I for one don't buy this much ! Eight pair of shoes, I wish I could find 8 pairs of shoes that would fit me. If they would fit I would buy 68,000 pairs.

Cline's book "Overdressed: The Shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion" is an eye-opener to those of us who feel a sense of accomplishment when we score two pairs of BOGO shoes for $15 or buy four $10 T-shirts, knowing they could wear out in a few months. As her reporting bears out, rock-bottom bargains as the norm are bad for the economy, the environment and how we feel about what's in our closets.
Our clothes, which only a generation ago was much stronger, is now like a one-night stand. It's nearly impossible for mass-produced, poorly made clothes to feel personal, Cline says, so when we look in our closets, we no longer see an expression of our individuality.

Make a Circle
Simply put on a infinity scarf, or tie an oblong scarf together at the ends and wrap it around your neck twice.

Do a Double Loop
Fold a long, thin scarf in half, then wrap it around your neck and pull the ends through the loop to form a loose knot.

Create a kerchief
Fold a square scarf in half to get a western-inspired triangular shape, then roll one of the ends in once and tie
behind your neck.

Loop it Once
Drape a long, skinny scarf once around your neck and let the ends hang free.

"I certainly wasn't expecting that phone call and have never done a wheelchair but am always up for a challenge and was thrilled to create what I affectionately dubbed the Chariot, a chair fit only for a queen," Ken told MTV. It may seem a bit extreme ...

Gel Manicure Alert

Well here comes another cancer scare alert. Something to think about since you really don't need to get a gel manicure.
What is a gel manicure? A gel manicure is a type of manicure that uses gel to bind the synthetic fingernails to the natural nail. Gel can also be applied over natural nails to keep them healthy and long.
Gel nails are odorless, do not consist of the same acid that acrylic nails do; they are healthier (or so they said).
Gel manicures are popular because they don’t chip and they last at least twice as long as regular nail polish. They range in price from $25 to $45.
But here comes the down side

Women who frequently get gel manicures should consider their skin-cancer risk because the UV light used in the gel manicure is a risk factor for skin cancer, stated in a recent article in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.
LED lamps are used in drying regular nail polish and don’t pose a health risk because they don’t emit ultraviolet radiation. Some skin cancers are caused by exposure to certain ultraviolet light. The lengthy dose of UV light used to dry the gel is known to damage skin cells much the same way as tanning beds do.
As is the case with most things, moderation is the key when it comes to gel manicures, if you get them regularly, you need to be aware of the possible consequences.

Well the Oscars are over and Jennifer Lawrence is over being a blond. Hours after her win she returned to her brunette, Katniss Everdeen, hair color. She is continuing the shooting of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." I for one can't wait.
In fact, the darker hair gives her a much more high-fashion, striking appearance and really brings out her blue eyes. Well at least she didn't have to shave her head like Demi Moore.

NYC Fashion's Night Out

In 2009 Fashion's Night Out was first started by Anna Wintour, Vogue editor, approved by NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). It began as a result of the recession as a way to promote business for the important fall retail season. The event grew quickly and expanded to 500 cities worldwide.
That September evening event in NYC, aimed at luring consumers into retailers with special events and parties, has now been put on hiatus.
Fashion’s Night Out will still be held in select international cities this fall and FNO organizers said they will continue to support the NYC AIDS Fund, which received about $1 million from the Fashion’s Night Out events.
