This year's upcoming extravaganza - scheduled from Thursday, September 9 to Thursday, September 16, 2010 – will bring the biggest designers in the business from around the world to exhibit their Spring 2011 collections.
Leaving the tents of Bryant Park, New York Fashion Week September 2010 moves to Damrosch Park at the Lincoln Center, home to the renowned Metropolitan Opera house and American Ballet Theatre.
A multi-city shopping extravaganza that began last year as the brainchild of Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Friday’s Fashion’s Night Out will get a boost from Fashion Week. More than 1,000 stores in the city will stay open Friday until 11 p.m. having special events, music and maybe a celebrity or two. Fashion's Night Out is meant for us fashionistas to get out there and shop, shop, shop.
Fashion's Night Out will also be the subject of a one-hour special on CBS on September 14, 2010.

Alber Elbaz brings designs to a broader public — H & M

On Thursday, H&M confirmed a WWD report and said the Lanvin for H&M line for women and men would arrive in 200 stores on Nov. 23.
“I love the idea of H&M going luxury,” artistic director of Lanvin Alber Elbaz said. “I really wanted to try the whole idea of brand, and not just a dress for less. It’s about creating a dream and giving it to people who couldn’t afford Lanvin. We thought it was a very relevant move.”
Elbaz , along with Lanvin men’s wear designer Lucas Ossendrijver, conceived a collection to appeal to all ages and sizes, and one that spans clothing, jewelry, hats, sunglasses, handbags, footwear and even lipstick.
An H&M’s spokeswoman said prices would be in line with other designer collaborations, which typically unleash pandemonium, and rapid sellouts, when the merchandise hits the retail floor. The Lanvin effort — spanning dresses, coats and eveningwear — will be unveiled on Nov. 2 via a short film to be posted on H&M’s

If your a fan of Jersey Shore you have to love Snooki. As reported today by Accessories Magazine, Snooki, the lovable self-proclaimed "guidette" castmate on MTV's popular "jersey Shore", is a victim. Yes, a victim of "unbranding". She was a long time fan of Coach bags until recently she has been spotted carrying other designer purses. Has her loyalty left Coach? It is being reported that luxury purse houses are sending her for free their competitors bags. Genius I know...lol. according to the The Observer they are hoping that carrying their handbag would sour others from their brand. Very, very clever.

Think you can’t sit next to top editors at one the hottest runway shows at Lincoln Center? You can try, but it’s gonna cost you. Tickets went on sale at 10 a.m. today for Fashion’s Night Out’s first-ever public runway show and box office phone lines and the Internet were instantly mobbed as the general public scrambled to score seats. Tickets for the best seats ran up to $400, while cheap seats could be had for $25.
Once the invite-only domain of editors, buyers and celebrities, New York is throwing open its doors to consumers for its first-ever public runway show, held September 7 at Fashion Week's new Lincoln Center location. Thanks Accessories Magazine for the info.

First year that Lincoln Center will replace the traditional tents in Bryant Park, where Fashion Weekhas been held twice a year since 1993. Tickets for what is being billed as the biggest public fashion show in New York City history will go on sale Thursday. London—Victoria Beckham (Spice girl-Posh) who some say has amassed an “it” handbag collection worth more than $2 million, is planning her own handbag line. She is increasing her fashion line with a handbag collection with help from designer Katie Hillier, who has created signature bags for Marc Jacobs, and Stella McCartney. No launch date has been yet to be revealed, British tabloid reports speculate that Beckham decided to do her own line since whatever handbags and accessories she wears get so much attention. Beckham, who reportedly owns 100 Hermes Birkin bags, is supposedly fed up with helping other designers’ accessories sales increase because she wears their designs. One of the most photographed women in the world, Beckham has been shot carrying Birkins in every color and material as well as other designer “it” bags.

Just when we thought handbags were getting smaller!
Christian Dior's store on E. 57th Street found a clever way to conceal remodeling construction. The company worked with Shawmut Design and Construction to build a 20-foot high, 33-foot wide handbag with signature logo charm (made from stainless steel). The construction captures the style's signature quilting and a curved base makes it look like the handbag is carrying items.
Shawmut used local city vendors to erect the handbag barricade, which will remain until mid-November when the renovation is scheduled to be complete (just in time for holiday shopping).

TJMaxx Wedding

People are always searching to make their wedding special. Destination weddings are one way but, retail venues? The wedding of the Michigan's Morning Sun sport reporter Drew Ellis and former reporter Lisa Satayut that has attracted nationwide attention went off without a hitch Saturday at the Mt. Pleasant store. The new Mrs. Ellis had dreamed of getting married in the size 8 shoe aisle at TJ Maxx and the store accommodated her. They widened the aisle, added a vine covered arch, and provided white chairs with red bows for the wedding guests.
The store was open and everyone just kept shopping unless they wanted to stay and watch. Why TJMaxx for a destination wedding? Who knows, but we wish the "Maxxinistas" all the best of luck.

Madonna’s Material Girl

New York—It was Madonna Mania at Macy’s on Tuesday, as more than 200 tweens and their moms lined up outside Macy’s Herald Square to kick off of the Material Girl clothing and accessories launch. The collection looks like all of Madonna's phases, Like a Virgin, Desperately Seeking Susan, and her Blonde Ambition and blended them all together.

Macy’s gave out Madonna-signed t-shirts to those guests who dressed up like the original Material Girl herself, although few braved the challenge. Luckily, Macy’s dispatched its own girls dressed in pink tulle skirts over leggings, sunglasses and bows in their blond hair to set the mood and hand out gift cards to those on line.
While Material Girl co-designers Madonna and daughter Lourdes were nowhere to be seen, “Gossip Girl” actress and rocker Taylor Momsen (the “face” of the Material Girl brand and advertising) performed live with her band The Pretty Reckless to a raucous crowd of 300.
Prices for the apparel, footwear, bags, jewelry, and hair goods range from $12 to $40 at Macy's now.

Birken Bags All Time High

Imagine? Maybe it’s a case of frugality fatigue in the extreme, but wealthy collectors have been snapping up rare Hermès Birkins at auction often for prices more than double the full retail. Last week Christie sold “Blue Abyss” crocodile Birkin from Hermès’ 2010 collection for about $63,874—not far off the record set last November of $76,300 for 2004 black crocodile Birkin.
Coveted due to their rarity and the usually long wait lists Hermès has, Birkins continue to be the ultimate "it" handbags. Christie's is finding affluent consumers who want them are willing to pay more than Hermès retail to get them at auction. All told, for the 81 Hermès bag up for auction, Christie’s raised more than $735,000.

Fall 2010 Fashion Colors

Though it maybe 110 degrees in the shade it is quite hard to think about the Fall/Winter season. So here is a refresher course of what's to come this fall.

Pantone Fashion Color Report Fall 2010 released the top 10 colors for women's fashion for fall 2010 in Feb. They forecasted intense shades of red, green, purple, brown, yellow and coral, which is a hot color right now.

The color that was most prominent on the runway for the season —was Purple Orchid. “Designers did tell us that if their consumers are buying new items, they want to integrate it into their already existing wardrobe.”
As part of its Pantone Fashion Color Report Fall 2010, Pantone Color Institute has provided a list of what designers say are the “must-have” items for the season. One big trend: jackets in all shapes and sizes — leather, bolero and tuxedo styles will be seen across New York’s runways.

Logo Infringement?

Mexicali, Mexico--Who said conspicuous logos were over?
While this hand-monogrammed home might not have the official approval of French fashion house LVMH, this Mexican resident surely "lives for fashion."
The images were sent anonymously to the blog Hazme el Chingado Favor, so it's all a bit of a fashion mystery, but reportedly they're authentic and not a PhotoShop work of art.

FALL 2010 TRENDS: ANIMAL PRINT!

Animal prints have always been in and out of style, but animal prints are so hot for fall and winter. This fall 2010 animal prints trend looks absolutely stunning.
This year the prints are seen from shoes to accessories and clothing and they all looked fabulous, and at varying price points, making the look accessible for most budgets.
Be careful with this trend, there is a fine line between fashion fabulous and fashion disaster. Animal prints are a trend that should not be paired with other current trends, but

Janie Bryant To Design Mod Line

"Mad Men" costume designer Janie Bryant is finally launching her own line, WWD reports. Called Mod, the garments will be sold on QVC come September 29, but some items will be available on QVC's website next month.
The first collection will include 20 pieces from outerwear to bottoms, a handbag and about 15 pieces of jewelry, all priced between $26 to $138 retail.
Bryant said, "'Mad Men' has had such an influence on fashion in that women are dressing up more, so these are statement pieces that can change your outfit in an instant."

This distinctive Sixties-era styles worn by the women of “Mad Men” will be coming to QVC.
Timing couldn’t be better for this launch, however, since the series now boasts nine Emmys and five Golden Globes. The fourth season of the serial drama about employees at a 1960s-era Madison Avenue advertising agency begins July 25.
While there are sure to be looks that resemble those that Jackie Kennedy might have worn, don’t be surprised to see some ideas inspired by another 1960s-era icon, Barbie.
When asked about the collection Bryant said, "I was inspired by my grandmother’s closet and jewelry box. I used to dress up as a little girl, and spend hours dressing and accessorizing my dolls, and this line brings back memories of a fond and fun time."

Jason Wu Plans Accessory Line

The world of Wu is expanding. Designer Jason Wu, 28, says he plans to delve further into accessories next year. Wu, whose gained everyone's attention when the first lady wore his gown to the Inaugural Ball, says he plans to expand into other accessories categories beyond his eyewear collection of Modo that launched earlier this year.
"My eyewear is only the beginning of my accessories range, stay tuned for later this year—there is more to come," he told Vogue while in Paris last week showing his resort collection.
“Now that I have an established ready-to-wear business it seems to be the natural step to expand into the world of Jason Wu. There is so much more I would like to do to complete the vision."
Handbags and other leather goods are likely his next endeavor, since the designer indicated he was off to Florence to do research for his premiere accessories collection.

Hair Brush Tips

Choosing the right hair brush can mean the difference between split ends and a healthy head of hair. Ditto for brushing properly. There was a time I didn’t think they type of hair brush I owned made a difference. Now I know better.
If you don’t think it makes a difference between getting a good-quality hair brush and or picking one up for $2.50 you couldn’t be more wrong. Check out some of these hair brush tips.
1. For long straight hair use what’s known as a paddle brush. Once you see it, you’ll know what I mean. It’s shaped like a paddle with a larger brush and handle than you’re average run of the mill hairbrush. I love mine.
2. Make sure your hair brush has balls on the tips. If not you’re asking for split ends and a sore scalp!
3. Clean your brush by “combing” out the hair and washing with a water and a bit of shampoo.
I put mine in a lingerie bag and throw it in the washing machine. Follow manufacture's care information.
4. Use thermal brushes when blow drying your hair. These specially designed round brushes heat up better enabling them to hold a style.
5. Every time you brush your hair you release sebum. This is a good thing as it keeps your scalp from drying out. Brush two or three times a day to moisturize your scalp.
Also, a natural bristled brush is so much healthier for your hair than a nylon or synthetic bristled brush. While it may cost more money, you and your hair will be happier in the long run.
6. Do not use brushes on wet hair to de-tangle. Start with a wide-toothed comb, then use a brush to style hair after partially drying locks. If your hair has a lot of static, it could be due to the weather, dry office air or just fine hair type, but you can also get static if your brush has plastic bristles.
In this instance, switch to a natural bristle brush or mist hair spray on the brush and restyle.

Every day when we sit at our computers we are always amazed by what we find. Here is our latest discovery. Fashion sites offer public feedback on your outfits.
How many times have you been getting ready to go out and wondered, "Do I look good in this?" ...and wished you could ask your friends? How many times have you been in a fitting room and seen someone staring at herself in the mirror... Turning to the right. Turning a bit to the left. Finally asking the sales girl, "What do you think?"
Get an opinion or give an opinion at Fashism Get fashion advice by uploading a picture of you in your new apparel. Add some details about the occasion and others would tell you if you should wear it or not.
Upload a photo of an outfit, and visitors will vote for you to “wear it” or “change it.” on GoTryItOn If you’d rather just judge, skip uploading your own photos and click to your heart’s content on everyone else's and receive honest, anonymous feedback. The site now has 3,000 members and all comments are moderated. The site's owner doesn't allow users to be cruel. It's simply meant to offer advice to avid “fashionistas”. If you'd like to try it out anonymously, the site does have a feature that allows you to blur your face.

New Credit Card Scam to Avoid

By Stacey Bradford I just received yet another phone call promising to reduce the interest rate on my credit card. While I’m savvy enough to know this is a scam, I have to admit I felt quite nervous after I hung up the phone. Not only did the con artist know my name, he also knew my home address, the current rate I pay on my MasterCard, and my general spending habits. When I wouldn’t divulge any other personal information, the guy started yelling at me and threatened to cancel my account within the week. For the first time I started to wonder if I needed to take some action to protect myself.
What the fraudsters really wanted was to sell me a worthless and expensive debt reduction service. Here’s how the scam plays out, according to the FTC:
“The companies behind the sales pitches claim to have special relationships with credit card issuers. They guarantee that the reduced rates they offer will save you thousands of dollars in interest and finance charges, and will allow you to pay off your credit card debt three to five times faster. They claim that the lower interest rates are available for a limited time and that you need to act now. Some even use money-back guarantees as further enticement.”

What these fraudulent companies are actually doing is charging a hefty fee to negotiate with your credit card issuer on your behalf to get you a lower interest rate.

The FTC investigators, however, found that consumers “don’t get the touted interest rate reductions, don’t save the promised amounts, don’t pay off their credit card debt three to five times faster, and struggle to get refunds.”

So what about all that personal information the scam artist had on me? Most of that data is probably available on the web for everyone to see. And since I didn’t give the caller my bank or credit card account information or my social security number, I’m probably fine.
As we all know, scams come and go, the next time you get an automated robocall offering you some service that sounds too good to be true:
* First, sales oriented robocalls are illegal (and have been since September 1, 2009) unless the seller has your written permission to contact you.
* These companies are not allowed to dial your number if you are on the Do Not Call Registry. If you haven’t already done so, click here Do Not Call to add your name to the list.
* It’s also illegal for a company to keep calling you if you’ve requested not be contacted again.
If it is to good to be true Its Not True.

Manhattan shoe fiends will no longer have to travel to the outer boroughs as they will have two new 30,000-squarefoot DSW stores right within reach. With more than 40,000 pairs per store, virtually any footwear fetish can be easily satisfied at this chain, formerly known as Discount Shoe Warehouse or DSW Shoe Warehouse. The new, 60,000 square-foot retail "box" will soon rise at 213-223 W. 34th St. once demolition of old structures is completed.
"Manhattan is the fashion capital of America, and we felt the time was right to bring our value-priced designer merchandise to this city," said John C. Rossler, president and ceo of Retail Ventures, DSW's parent company, who was on hand at the Oct. 24 grand opening of the Union Square location. "We have probably been ready to launch a flagship store for the past two years, but we wanted to wait until we located just the right real estate."
DSW's assortment always features a steady flow of designer names alongside national brands, including New Balance, Reebok and Kenneth Cole. However, the Manhattan stores feature an especially broad array of designer fashion merchandise from Christian Lacroix, Versace, Marc Jacobs, Prada and Miu Miu, among others.
