Bayern Snap Up Xherdan Shaqiri

Bayern Munich have completed a deal to sign highly-rated Swiss midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri, who will join the Bundesliga giants for the start of next season.

Shaqiri passed a medical in Munich earlier this week and signed a four-year contract with Die Roten after Basel accepted a reported €10 million transfer fee for the player.

Bayern's director of sport Christian Nerlinger said: "We are delighted that we have been able to sign Xherdan Shaqiri, one of the most coveted young talents in European football."

Head coach Jupp Heynckes is looking forward to working with the 20-year-old Switzerland international next season too.

"Xherdan will strengthen our team next season with his intelligence and his dribbling skills,'' he said. "I have been watching him for a while now and am convinced that he can become an important player for FC Bayern.''

Shaqiri will get a close look of his future employers in just under a fortnight when Basel host Bayern in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Shaqiri was close to a move to Turkish side Galatasaray during the January transfer window but the deal fell through and he was subsequently linked with Manchester United.

Andrey Arshavin Plans To Stay Until The Summer

Andrey Arshavin is holding out for a move to Zenit St Petersburg in the summer.

The Arsenal misfit, 30, is a target for another Russian side, mega-rich Anzhi Makhachkala, before his homeland's transfer window shuts on February 24.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has opened the door for Arshavin to go, and Arsenal may be willing to sell once Gervinho returns from the Africa Cup of Nations.

But Arshavin is believed to favour a move to former club Zenit, even though Arsenal are keen to get the deal done and cash in now.

Arsenal want around £6m for the midfielder, who joined from Zenit for £12m in January 2009 and now has less than 18 months left on his contract.

Fabio Capello Resignation

The Football Association can confirm that Fabio Capello has today resigned as England Manager.

This follows a meeting involving FA Chairman David Bernstein, FA General Secretary Alex Horne and Fabio Capello at Wembley Stadium.

The discussions focused on The FA Board’s decision to remove the England team captaincy from John Terry, and Fabio Capello’s response through an Italian broadcast interview.

In a meeting for over an hour, Fabio’s resignation was accepted and he will leave the post of England Manager with immediate effect.

David Bernstein said: “I would like to stress that during today’s meeting and throughout his time as England Manager, Fabio has conducted himself in an extremely professional manner. We have accepted Fabio’s resignation, agreeing this is the right decision. We would like to thank Fabio for his work with the England team and wish him every success in the future.”

A media conference with David Bernstein and the Club England Management team will take place at Wembley on Thursday at 12 noon.

The FA will not be making any further comment until the media conference

Stefan Jovetic : I Want England Move

Fiorentina striker Stefan Jovetic has the Premier League's biggest clubs chasing his signature.

The Daily Star says Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City are all battling for the Montenegro international.

Jovetic’s agent has made it clear he would be available in the summer. The player said: “I am content in Italy but I’m always looking out to improve myself. I have been looking out for a chance to play in the Premier League and I am prepared for that challenge.”

City would want to do a player-plus-cash deal with Roque Santa Cruz or Emmanual Adebayor possibly in the mix.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic Faces Three Matches Ban

AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been handed a three-match ban for violent conduct in Sunday's goalless draw against Napoli.

Sports judge Gianpaolo Tosel inflicted the punishment after the Lega Calcio's disciplinary panel convened on Monday to deliver their verdict.

Ibrahimovic received a red card in the second half of the match for slapping Salvatore Aronica in an off-the-ball incident.

After the game, Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri admited that the Sweden international deserved to be sent off, although club CEO Adriano Galliani stressed there had been no violence involved in the gesture. The Rossoneri later confirmed that they would appeal the ruling.

"AC Milan confirms that it will appeal the decision of the Sports Judge who has banned Zlatan Ibrahimovic for three rounds of competition," a statement on the club's official website read.

If the ruling is upheld, the former Barcelona striker will now miss Milan's next three Serie A matches, against Udinese, Cesena and Juventus.

Ibrahimovic's absence would be a huge blow to Allegri as the striker is the club's top Serie A scorer, with 15 goals this term.

Ancelotti wanted to sign Kaka last month.
