Denver Chalk Art Festival

We've had a busy but enjoyable weekend, summer has finally arrived in Colorado. We spent most of the day wandering the streets of downtown Denver at the Chalk Art Festival, and took Bella to a new dog park Friday, and again today. There is a small pond that she can swim in to cool off, lots of other dogs to run with, and people throwing balls into the pond for the dogs to fetch. May very well be her new favorite place. Band, Balloons, and Bella

Oh my, it has been super busy around the Snouffer family ranch...school is almost out (6 day I think) and the boys are chomping at the bit. As most of you know, Easton bought his first car, a 1993 Honda Civic hatchback. He loves it and will be doing his driving test to get his license on June 1...then the roads will be a much more adventurous place :-)

Both boys had concerts last week, and on the same night. We went to Q's first where he played several songs, and is becoming a great sax player. He had me upload Dead Man's Chest from Pirates of the Caribbean and Pinnacle. He chose those as his favorites, enjoy.

Easton had his final concert of the year, and part of the song was an improvisational drum battle with Mike, the senior drummer that Easton will be taking over for next year. If you missed it, Easton is going to be playing the lead percussionist in the band, and thy symphonic band and choir have already recruited him to help with their music also. He will be busy next year.

Easton is waiting to hear on acceptance at a weeklong summer band camp at Colorado State University this summer. The camp will be 12 hours a day of pure music focus, on Jazz and Marching. He is excited. He is also looking for a job to put gas money in the new ride!

Easton and I got up at sunrise on Saturday to go watch the hot air balloon launch in Erie, but it was cancelled due to the thick, heavy fog. They did set up 5 balloons though, and we got to interact with all the teams, help set them up and then pack them back up. Still a great way to spend the morning. Lastly, a little update on our completely uncoordinated Bella. We have found that she really loves to stalk and chase bubbles, along with butterflies, birds, squirrels, basically anything that moves. Some fun pictures of her chasing bubbles are on Flickr.

Hopefully this finds all of you well, and we look forward to summer! It might come to Colorado one day, but for now we have a constant daily change of wind, rain, cool air, and very little sun and heat.

As most of you know, Easton got chosen for Jazz 1 next year, the top drummer for Horizon! He has been on cloud 9 since finding out. I recorded his last concert on Feb 25 for you all to enjoy. He is becoming quite the musician! Go to the blog to see the videos!

Broken Bella

Well, the trauma from Friday night ended up with Bella's toe being broke. We did not think it was so, but today when we got home her foot was all swollen and she would not walk on it. She is feeling pretty picked on. No bird dog training, no walks, no dog park, for 4 weeks!

Band & Basketball

My mom came out for the weekend to see the boys play basketball. They both played great, with Q's team winning by 3 and Easton's team losing by 1 point due to a lucky buzzer beater shot by the other team.

Easton also had a jazz concert, played a Chicago great "Does anyone really know what time it is?" and a couple of others. He also got told by his band director and teacher that he needed to register for Jazz 1 next year, so that should mean he will be in the top group!!!

Easton is 16!!! (well, in a few more days) and to celebrate his birthday, we got him a 44' Cadillac Escalade limo to pick him and 15 friends up at our house. They were all taken to Friday's for a dinner and celebration of the big event.

After dinner, they got to go cruise downtown Denver, screaming out the windows, blaring the music, and just having a great time.

Easton was completely shocked, he knew we had invited all of his to come to our house and then we were going to dinner, but he had no idea when the limo pulled up, that was how they were getting there.

We had dinner at the same restaurant, but sat on the other side and enjoyed ourselves, and then picked up the bill after they left. We took the last of the kids home after midnight and hit the sack!

Took Bella to the dog park for her first time today. She got her rabies vaccine Thursday, so she is done with shots, and ready to roll....she had a blast, running with all the other dogs and playing with all sizes and shapes. This will be a weekly socialization trip for her!

We got blessed with a beautiful white blanket of snow here in Colorado, just in time for Christmas. Bella had fun playing in it in her new jacket, after her visit to the vet this morning for some shots. We wish all of you the best in this holiday season and remember to slow down, and stop for what is important in life, our friends and family!

Came home last night with our new puppy Bella. She is a 7-1/2 week old German Shorthaired Pointer, pure bred with excellent hunting lines. When we went out yesterday to pick her up, the breeder was already showing us how natural pointing is for her, she does it at this age.

It was a much better night than expected, she slept from 10pm - 5pm in her kennel, got up and ate and went potty and back to sleep till 7:30am! Not too bad. She is now in the process of trying to get Dandy (our pug) to fight and wrestle with her.

Finally to the end of a big week, just going through video. Easton had his first Jazz concert for the year, they only have one home football game to perform as Marching Band, and they have been practicing something along the lines of "Thriller". Quinton had a huge playoff game yesterday...the Redskins were playing Quinton's old team from last year. Typically no big deal, but the players had been talking smack all season long about how they would eat us up if they played us, telling them Quinton couldn't play QB, blah, blah, blah...typical talk that tends to fire up a team. Well...the Redskins game them a butt-kicking like no other!!! Final score was 44-12 and Quinton had an incredible game throwing for 2 TD's and 2 extra points, along with some big runs. Video here...

High School Band Northern Regionals

Horizon High School competed in the Northern Colorado Band Regionals last night, debuting their 2009 Spy vs. Spy themed show for the state. They got great crowd support and put on a great show.

Colorado State Rams Marching Band also came to perform as the last band, and impressed all with their Suicide Trombones, something that has made them nationally famous. See it at YouTube.

Quinton played in a very cold and snowy football game on Saturday, but they lost the game 14-8, after an incredible effort. Great video of him throwing for a touchdown, and a blocked punt. You can feel the cold in the video on YouTube, brrr....

Been a big week and weekend for all. Easton performed with the Marching Hawks as they debuted their new Spy vs. Spy field show at the home football game Friday night. Video here or click through to youtube to see it.

I was not feeling well Saturday morning so I went out to shoot some sunrise pictures. See them on Flickr, this is just a sample for you.

Then Quinton had a 9am game against the very tough Superior Mustangs. The Redskins came right out and scored on them, with Quinton running an option for a touchdown, but could not score the extra point. That was the reason they lost as Supeior only scored once, but converted the PAT and won the game. It was a great game, but an unfortunate loss putting them 4-2 on the season. New video up on YouTube of the NYFA Redskins game on Saturday. They shut them out 42-0 by middle of the 3rd quarter, but the Bulldogs wanted to keep playing. The highlights are of all the team, Q is #7 (you'll hear coach and mom yelling it out!).

We went for our annual fall drive yesterday up to see the leaves and take some pictures. Too bad it was a hazy day, but we did get some great family photos. More pictures at Flickr...

As you can see, the aspens were at the peak of their golden colors, and some had even started dropping leaves.

The boys got some time to play football in the mountains between dad's pictures. We had a great time.

Easton marching in the Broomfield Days parade yesterday. Horizon took first place for Marching Band.

Quinton came back from the flu and led the Redskins to a huge win over a great team. They go up 3-1 on the season. Quinton had a 25 yard reception, and scored a TD and extra point. He also has a great punt in these highlights.

Don't lose the key to your Kryponite D-lock! Ask Easton if you want to know why, but after trying to use a jack, a hacksaw, and renting a bolt cutter (you can't rent them!), Thornton's finest helped him out...the firemen were nice enough to help, but the police have to be called to check to make sure it is not a stolen bike.

Careful boys...someone might get hurt...

We went to the moutains this weekend, to get away. Stopped at some ghost towns, abandoned trains stations, and old saw mills on the way. The boys had fun!

We stayed at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs, a place that has about 30 areas in the creek that 134 degree water bubbles up from the earth. You can mix it with the cold creek water to create the perfect temperature for relaxing. It was great fun exploring the pools and then soaking in them.

We had a great time, even if it was short, and the best thing was the boys had a lot of fun learning about Colorado history.

Liver Walk 2009

Thanks to everyone who donated and walked with us today. It was a great success, with the walk bringing in more that $75,000, and by me taking 2nd place for the most money raised by a single team leader. Traci has been working out at the Adams County Fair since Thursday, so it has been a lonely weekend for us. She had to work on her birthday!...so we decided to go see the Bronco training camp and see if we could get some autographs. Here they are at Dove Valley, and more pictures on Flickr.

And we also have a few fair photos up. I took it as a chance to try and capture the fair atmosphere, the bright lights, summer skies...and all the rip-off artists looking to steal a poor kids buck!

A huge thank you to all of you, we have met the $2,500 fundraising goal for our Liver Walk this weekend! When we first decided to walk, we thought it would be hard to raise $500, but you all blew us away. Thanks to each of you for your generosity, without you it would not be possible and it goes a long way toward raising awareness. I've decided to join thousands of participants in the Liver Life Walk here in Denver. This is an annual event that takes place in cities from coast to coast that supports the life saving and life changing work of the American Liver Foundation (ALF). Most everyone reading this knows that I am currently waiting for a liver transplant, and when I learned of this walk I thought it would be a great way to raise awareness for organ donation and for liver disease research.

With more than 30 million people in the United States suffering from liver disease it's more important than ever to help the ALF further their commitment to liver research, education, and advocacy. That is why I'm asking for your support!

Great night for some fireworks...

Last night was a great night for some fireworks, once the rain stopped about 8pm. Thornton had some skydivers start the show at 9:30, jumping into the night and then trailing sparks from their feet, and flags for their parachutes. I tried capturing some of them and am pleased with the results. More at our flickr
