border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5696349388691981666" />
Hell to the yes. Refused are confirmed to be back in the game and returning to the tour scene. No news of albums yet, but they are down for Coachella, Monster Bash, Groez, and Way Out West Festivals and it's looking likely they'll do a few European headline tours too.

It's been 14 years since they last rocked our world and no one has come near them as far as unique and progressive hardcore is concerned (although you might want to check out the latest UK's Last Witness and Century releases if you're after distraction while you're waiting). Don't be thinking that they were lazy in their time off, though... Kristofer has his Opera Academy degree now, Jons is completing his medical studies and drummer David and vocalist Dennis have been amusing themselves over the last few years with TEXT, some solo work and The (International) Noise Conspiracy, Invasionen and AC4. They've now seen the light and know we need them back on more time, though!

"We wanna do it over, do it right. For the people who've kept the music alive through the years, but also for our own sakes.
We feel that you deserve it and we hope the feeling is mutual."

It is, guys, it is :-D
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SlidingDownTheRazorbladeOfLife

First Blood

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 130px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSR_gtYgbgKKff9JUUhfLvflcyvBV-ToZ3xuLlnoevLwa555m1oLyRGudMnhy2kiw7VHjVJ7KEIbR_70H_7kTsLBHs02oeQvxSh4gcZlFGlKai5aloeTCcoCwmzmEj_XwSbRNZeksHIlEQ/s320/Logo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5632109307230963506" />

This Wednesday Agnostic Front either chose (or lucked out on) what have to be some of the best HC supports to have played the Camden Underworld in AGES.

Well worth fighting through the soggy summer rain for, UK-based Pay No Respect (who also supported Terror a few weeks ago) have a pretty classic hardcore approach but a fairly metal-at-heart guitarist with a seriously catchy groove to his fretwork which makes their tracks both comfortingly credible but also quietly catchy. Well worth checking them out live or online if you get the chance, especially if you're a fan of straight-forward hardcore with a distinctive modern twist.

San Franscico's First Blood, meanwhile, have a distinctly hardcore drummer but are otherwise up to their ears in metal influences. Thier frontman, Carl, proves he was almost wasted as Terror's bassist, as he's a frankly incredible vocalist with an almighty stage presence. You can practically feel the 200% force behind the raw throaty shouts and his striding and constant snapping arm movements make you feel as though you're being put through your paces at a military bootcamp more than just watching a show! And all this after subjecting us to an almost complete recording of We Are The World before they walked on stage. Ha!

A little sample of what they can be like live can be found here... One for the oldschool Pantera lovers, me thinks..

Check them out - the album's out 16th August.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SlidingDownTheRazorbladeOfLife

Converge FOREVER

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 276px; height: 183px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj866C08WZ3zT9dgUPNH5IGWKi9Y-KEaORX5DNiF7W4fAH5tsRgGjZ38IxQHaWo2Vi_qwFQqPYzeiGtFBHaJFFRsN2ag0OLRWwVnXmUMplQVLMSq83km0ZNBTSkET1GlRapjxI-WcLE3fy/s320/converge" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5619607979446606546" />
Converge have to be one of the greatest bands live - ever. And what's sickening is how they just seem to get better every year you see them. This week's show at the O2 Islington in London was so good it's almost cruel. I could only find a couple of videos of Converge's tracks on YouTube (health warning: do not watch THIS if you're scared of heights) so please ping me if you find or have any more so I can worship them, relive the memories again - and also add them to the Blog / favourite them on my Channel. Thanks muchly!

It's always curious to see who dare support this lot, so I'm not sure what they were thinking adding 33 to the bill...(think a shockingly dated dual vocal act with a bored-looking guitarist and seriously below-average drummer...kill us now) but I owe them a huge thanks for introducing me to Pettybone! If you, like me, haven't heard this fabulously furious all-girl band before, do see if you can hunt them down with me at either the Relentless Garage on the 6th July or The Unicorn in Camden on the 3rd. OK, so they don't tend to interact or even notice the audience much when they play but their sound speaks for itself and captures you in a way that The Ocean and Pink Floyd fans would kill for...that is as long as you can cope with a lack of vocals and the selective use of electronic samples and film references every now and then.
Best of all, their songs are simply stunning. They have a knack of writing cascading melodies and exhilarating metal crescendos that is sickening for their age, and when they played the Garage there were few among us beardy (ok, not me - I'm a girl), heavy-loving folk (yes, me) that didn't stop chatting and pause from ordering beer to raise an eyebrow, become suddenly entranced and routed to the spot.

They certainly captured the heart of the Garage that night, so all I'm asking if to see if they can offer you anywhere near the same. The videos on YouTube are probably your best bet as the moving footage and cool imagery is perfectly suited to their high-intensity emotionally-engaging sound. Try Not For Want Of Trying as a starting point and then moving onto The Paris Hilton Sex Tape for a more light-hearted break.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SlidingDownTheRazorbladeOfLife

Shai Hulud at the Purple Turtle, anyone?

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 110px; height: 169px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh__L1rOIiBo4s2FnyHS0TUyQ-9KBkyjX1Qx5AezizA0YF2tUE6eeY3wtRLVwtEY5KqUZ6nG1lgsfCDX-kI1PAvocSWft7uCEfovyljTlsB1rcLz_10gowLf9rT3PjfqIzFjM3v08M89Fkf/s200/shai.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606868575824790514" />

Just dedicated the morning to finding out who's playing London in the new few months so I can be absolutely sure not to be on a work trip (grrr) and - behold - it turns out that US progressive hardcore bruisers Shai Hulud are down to play the Purple Turtle on June 22nd.

Awesome news, considering how intimate a venue this is and how downright aggressive (in fact, occasionally abusive if we remember the odd 'punching fans in the face' moments they've ticked off in their enthusiastic history) their gigs are. Some are a bit hi or miss, after all it's a tough call covering the likes of Quicksand, but just to own this is a bit of an obligatory mission for any dedicated HC fan. Expect to hear Ignite, SOIA, Terror and Warzone covering Youth Of Today, Gorilla Biscuits and Shai Hulud. Way better than Stampin Ground ever were, I've seen these guys play London twice in the last year or so and on both occasions they've put the headliners to shame. Totally ferocious and with the experience and talent to back up the attitude, they will destroy the Turtle tonight, leaving only a HC club night in their wake. Oh, and all for just 6 pounds!
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SlidingDownTheRazorbladeOfLife

Infectious Grooves / Cyco Miko live album

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 226px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj17w0Cr1fIM8i6-TspwVAB50HdsEZCzG_R_3KBK1d0b8RZQPftvX0XLJHt3f48tEMu11CIpoXkw4Pj9tNtZwVWmhJy509HxCqG4O66dyBHFjbUHWQfkyArfu5UH1f6PEbjNgOUYAZ4nAPP/s320/cyco.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5508186961607964818" />
It's really good! I mean I know the band are great and both styles are fun, but they've managed to release a double-disc release from way back when (1995, in fact) that does them real justice!
One CD is dedicated to the band playing a Cyco Miko set, and the other sees the same members all shifting guise to play the Infectious Grooves set, so it's a pretty impressive example of this lot's talent but, best of all, Rob Trujillo's particularly on fire and the recording's untouched and unaltered. Grabbing the feed straight from the sound desk may make the whole experience a little more muddy than your average Blue Ray extravaganza, but it also makes it much more 'real'.
Freestyle and funky - seriously, go grab it!
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SlidingDownTheRazorbladeOfLife

Softcore fans...
Went to Agnostic Front on Monday... Perfect example of a technically good gig ruined by a beyond boring crowd. Such a shame. The guys were on form, the stand in drummer solid and the set-list damn near perfect - but did it get anything but a 3-deep Josh and some raised fists? Did it hell. It was rammed too! I refuse to think the scene's getting old..it's obviously a glitch in the summer system. If I put pen to paper (meh...keyboard to site) it might make it real...so here goes:

Refused's label, No Sleep Records, promised that they'd be bringing out a 2 CD Tribute album at some point in 2009. It has not happened and we need it to. Anyone up for starting a massive campaign for this? Please? I beg of you...imagine it! An hour and a half or so of great Refused tracks covered by Hardcore bands worldwide. Awesome fun. It could even be followed by a swedish hardcore festival featuring the bands of the CD playing their covers, and a reformation and headline tour by the band themselves.

There are NOT and never will be dead, darn it.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SlidingDownTheRazorbladeOfLife

Agnostic Front re-release

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtviRYOohA6KOnJYtrBBsZNysSB_hsckUf1t33hE0wlIZX6sqgD7Zl_mI5RuyvQKHUk45rzzLDq2UydbVTHP0h0GqaXRcAy4h2htaJJvw3suUaXWm0IrXMGVO_MU38PRJRBh6JoJ-dFEkc/s200/Agnostic+Front+33imagedarksageru.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5423184815944912114" />
Just a quick one to say if you haven't yet grab this, do it now. It's the new year, it's a time to enjoy a bit of nostalgia, surely? And my god is this a worthy bit of nostalgia. I'd forgotten just how damn good this band were...tracks like Traitor and Society Suckers...argh, proper NYHC before it got engulfed by metal. I mean, metal's great, and class hybrids like Hatebreed are awesome, but there is a special place in the heart for the no-nonsense gritty rebellion that bands like AF represented back in '84.
So, yes, Victim In Pain & United Blood on one big 21 track album. Think about it. With original designs and slick packaging... Come on, what's not to like?

On an aside...just reviewed Cocoon and don't bother unless you like (a) screamo mixed with bad skate-punk drumming, or (b) anything that sounds even losely like Atreyu. Chaos In Her Wake IS worth a shout, however, as it's pretty evil in parts, but be warned that they are still better live...hey go, give em time.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SlidingDownTheRazorbladeOfLife

New Converge!!! Him, Agnostic Front & The Aggrolites

A random list of bands, you say. I know, but I saw quite a lot this week. And, hey, why be put off by style variety, eh? That and, to be brutally honest, the band I most looked forward to in this bunch was Agnostic Front, who were an utter disappointment. Hey ho. Yes, they have the songs we remember but the rebellious punk ethos seems to have faded and the energy is nowhere near what you'll find at a Terror or Hatebreed gig. <sigh> Still, it was fun to hear Gotta Go live for the first time.

Finish! Him were more of a positive surprise...they should be back in London some time this month and are worth a glimpse if you like metalcore with a madddd in your face frontman and a loads of weird keyboard effects :-) It is quite loony and yet heavy - and I for one think there should be more up-and-comers this gutsy.

And ahhhh yes The Aggrolites. HOW COOL ARE THIS LOT?! I realise they are in no way shape or form metal, so don't really belong on this blog, but they had such a slick vibe I had to give them a mention. In the name of music, so to speak. Reggae with a smooth frontman and an absolute insistence that you dance cannot be a bad thing.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SlidingDownTheRazorbladeOfLife

Bane, Terror & PTW photos!

Truly awesome pics of Bane, Terror, Poison The Well... at 10 for Ten Dollar tour in Atlanta. It tells of the destruction of civilisation, concludes in a final fight with stone (Don't ask...) and is basically an aggressive death meets black metal melodrama. And, by god, it's fun. 20 days left!

Meanwhile, Caliban have done the opposite and stuck with what they do best in Say Hello To Tragedy, and simply rocked out a giant wad of vicious modern metal. If you've forgotten just how god damn good their drumwork is, grab it without hesitation. It's out mid-August, a new song is on MySpace and they tour the UK in November. This is live hardcore at its most epic. Playing London for the first time in like forever, Vision Of Disorder pretty much set fire to our humble ULU mini-venue this Friday.
Intimate but huge, loud but precise, they're all you require of an oldschool hardcore pack leader. And mannnn is Tim's voice awesome! He's an unbeatable frontman; gloriously rough vocally but at the same time meticulous about making sure every word he spits is perfectly pronounced. The band message comes across clean and inspiring and fans look like lottery winners all night as they sing along and slam about in the pit. Wooooo hooooooo thanks guys - pls come again!!!!!
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SlidingDownTheRazorbladeOfLife

Metal Hammer Awards

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 249px; height: 250px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglwMma5melKYG10hc6DgKXqfqHIyOpejOLgJywWPsqxPPV87qc1axLVMw0IXA-auXqXL91cpvtTmpUlPIM395KaWHl0-MoZgyCfSx5vg8PsupxG2yg-zdqMdSaNGHQVg4ee0sQpCav0Pgm/s320/Slipknot_And_Amon_Amarth_Top_Metal_Hammer_Golden_Gods_2009_Nominations-1-249-250-85-nocrop.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349692137506882098" />
Yes, they took place at the O2 Indigo on Monday and I am stillll recovering. Proof I am old or just proof that no normal human can cope with drinking Jager shots under the same roof as Iron Maiden and half of the Roadrunner roster?

I have a hazy memory of talking about pizzas with Anthrax's Scott Ian, getting rewarded with a hug from Phil from Machine Head for ordering him a JD(on another artist's tab) and brushing past Hatebreed's Jamie Jasta no less than four times and silently drooling. The man may be cute and pretty sweet-natured but I still worship the ground his band walks on, and even after DJing with him I cannot bring myself to ever have a conversation with him. So kill me, he was my one fail of the night.

Hey ho. The live shows were good (Malefice and Devildriver did slick shows making up for Trivium's slightly muddy set) but half as amusing as the chaos back-stage as bands were shunted about to be pushed on stage to accept the awards. I remember seeing girlfriends kept apart from groupies and seeing Bam Magara's mate being carried out with his trousers around his ankles and arse on show. Oh, and believe one chaperone has bite marks to show from minding Steel Panther - hee hee.

Looking back on it now I am finally sober again, I reckon trying not to spill mojitos at Steel Panther's mini-gig at the Regent St Embassy aftershow and being asked for my address by the late Dimebag's girlfriend Rita so she could send me a selection of sequin-stamped hold ups (???) are always good things to tick off on a Monday night. Pity I felt the need to stay on until 5am to drink beer, argue about the state of black metal and hardcore today and watch the on-bar strip show...

Bring on next year, baby ;-)
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SlidingDownTheRazorbladeOfLife

PTW: 26 days to The Tropic Rot

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinh62HssJHjjo7qdOTnVEkvZLHVBPlAuPAypCfUt6PzuOK0CSNPAkCJCUKeA3JicMdKHefrjetz5XRPNX3T6aazaqftJGYVuTEQ-6z48H5lommh7cEw0i7OqGKz-JOc6IY02OEKHiWZ6fo/s320/tropicrot.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345660068270649154" />

You may remember that Poison The Well gave a one song taster of new album A Tropic Rot at their Camden 36 Crazyfists gig a month or so ago...and, even despite the muddy sound, it sounded awesome. Well, now, with 26 days to go to the album release, they're streaming another new track called Cinema on their MySpace page. Have a listen, it's nicely angry and fast-paced with a slightly ambient clingy chorus. Very cool. Oh, and if you enter your details in the clever little box there you can get access to further downloads before the release too. Bring 'em on, I say.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SlidingDownTheRazorbladeOfLife

Download the new KSE track!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 260px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTWC8vZ8N3tOP6jVxPpVUN1NjtGqrw3Oj2COuipIDrEY-4rreQXZNdSTZNX1r8k3ul2aok6iBTLCgzkLfjwWSY9hQ7U8l6t1EDMgadOJcJfJavKGBnpUDHMhwj0TAZNt_VYRcRqtuY8Qoq/s400/KSEnewtrack.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341281797839913666" />
New Killswitch Engage track to be found on Roadrunner right about NOW:
http://www.roadrunnerrecords.co.uk/
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/SlidingDownTheRazorbladeOfLife
