I got to photograph one of my favorite families last week. A family with four boys, can you believe it? We headed out to King Philip’s Stockade Park (across from Picknelly Field) and let the boys roam free. This is a great spot because the gates are typically closed, which means no cars. And that is perfect for a family portrait. I especially love the view of Springfield from up there. The littlest brother, is only 10 months and wears glasses and, let me tell you, he is a cutie pie – full of personality already! Aren’t they adorable?

About a week ago, I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing Fergus. What a ball of energy. One of the first things I noticed about Fergus is that his fur, um hair, was incredibly soft. He is a Cockapoo, which is a breed that is known for their “non-shedding” soft coat. Every time I look at this image, I giggle because, to me, he looks like a Jim Henson creation. He is still a baby, about a year-old, so it was a bit of process getting him to sit still. He just wanted to play. But, boy oh boy is he a handsome guy. I am planning to offer more pet portraits so if you would like to offer your pet as a model, give me a call this week.

There are just three siblings in my family and I have two children of my own. I’ve always been intimidated by large families, but this group was so much fun. These are all cousins, but cousins who spend a good amount of time together. And, for the most part, they are all pretty close in age. Their mothers were amazingly calm. Seriously, I don’t know how they do it. There were seven kids in white shirts and dresses running around near water. Sounds like a recipe for disaster, right? Well, not this bunch. They were strangely well behaved. Maybe their parents feed them “special” food. Hmmm. Anyway, I had dragged them all around this park, made them walk what seemed like forever, and still they were all in good spirits. So for this last shot, I said, ” How about they play in the water?” And being the calm moms they are, they said, “Go for it.” I wonder if these ladies could lead a summer camp for my rambunctious twosome.

A couple weeks ago, my cousin got married at the beautiful Blithewold Mansion in Bristol, Rhode Island. I was not the official photographer for the wedding, but of course I had my camera with me to photograph my two kids and my niece who were flowers girls and ring bearer. My cousin was so beautiful and calm! Honestly, I joked with her about not being able to tease her and call her “bridezilla”. One of the rare things at this wedding was that all us cousins were actually in the same room which hasn’t happened in probably about ten years. It was a speedy ceremony and a really fun reception. Congratulations Becky and Chris!

My good friend Allison Biggs and I spent the better part of yesterday afternoon playing with flowers and cameras. I have these great old cameras and I wanted to showcase them in some photos. Allison is a Graphic Designer and is really great at color and composition so we decided to join forces and create some vintage-inspired photos that feature these really cool cameras. The flowers are from my cousin’s wedding (Thanks, Becky!) These images will soon be available as notecards and fine art prints and I’m so excited to share them with you.

About one year ago, another mom at my son’s preschool was pregnant with her third daughter. I invited her to call me when the baby was born so we could get some cool newborn images. Without going into too much detail of a very long, story, the mom ended up, still pregnant, in a coma which lasted a couple of months. All of us at the school were in shock and so worried about the family. Then one day out of the blue I received a phone call from this mom saying that they were home from the hospital and that she wanted to come in for a session with the new baby. When she came in and told me about the ordeal she and her family had gone through, it truly touched my heart. At this point, the baby was having some medical issues and they were very concerned about her. We did the session, see here, and I said to her, “Just imagine how different she will be when we do her one-year photo.” I’m not sure this mom could see beyond the next day after what she had gone through, but we stayed in touch and I’m happy to report that baby Molly is doing really well.

Well, this morning I got to photograph her for her one-year portrait. She was such a joy to photograph; so alert and smiley. Her mom even told me that she recently took her first steps. For all this beautiful child has gone through, she is nothing short of a miracle and I feel so honored they’ve asked me to be a part of their amazing family.

This morning I had the absolute pleasure of photographing this beautiful baby girl. I met her dad and very pregnant mom at a mutual friend’s wedding last summer and I couldn’t believe it when she called to tell me her baby girl was now 9 months old! At the risk of repeating an overused phrase, time really does fly! This little beauty is such a happy person. Even when she was getting cranky, towards the end of our session, she was curious and wanted to check everything out. Her parents better watch out because when she gets a full crawl on, she will be everywhere!

Even sometimes I amaze myself when I capture special moments. Earlier today, I was fooling around with my lighting and I asked, well… maybe asked is too nice a word. Anyway, I “asked” my kids to come and sit in front of the camera so I could try a couple things. They aren’t always so willing. However, today I told them I only needed 10 shots and they could go back to playing. Here are just two of the images I captured. I just have to share.
