The six year-old Suze struggled to pronounce her real name and so affectionately called her "Kiki".

Kiki smoked Kool cigarettes and would send little Suze to the shop with a note to buy a pack of cigarettes for 25 cents. Now, despite Suze's tender age she was very astute.

You see, Kiki was habitually beaten by her husband. At times, the wounds he inflicted upon his wife were so bad she ended up in hospital. The Ormans would bring Kiki back to their home to recuperate but, when the physical wounds healed, Kiki would simply go back to her abusive husband.

Part of the reason for this was because she didn't have enough money to make it on her own. However, little Suze calculated that if she would quit smoking and saved those 25 cents that she would eventually have sufficient funds to make that all too important break. And she tried to persuade her carer to quit the habit of smoking and save her money so that, in effect she could buy her freedom.

But Kiki had made it a habit of returning 'home' knowing that, at some point, she would be subjected to another violent beating. Bad habits can be hard to break even when you have a powerful motivating factor.

You may be thinking how could she not summon the courage to walk away from her abusive relationship? The answer is simple - fear. For whatever reason, Kiki was probably afraid of being on her own and so she allowed herself to be regularly subjected to violence and suffered the humility of letting others see how badly her husband treated her. It was familiar territory.

Individuals who practice self-abuse and or allow others to abuse them usually suffer from self-esteem issues. It is highly likely that another reason why Kiki stayed in this abusive relationship was because she had low self-esteem. She may have thought that she was not worthy of being treated with dignity and respect. She may not have thought highly enough of herself to believe that she deserved a better life.

To compound matters Kiki was also illiterate. This can be a huge stumbling block for some individuals to overcome and it can have a devastating effect on an individual's self-image and self-esteem. It also makes you dependent on others.

Suze loved Kiki. Her dream was that when she grew up she would earn lots of money so that Kiki could move in with her and she could take care of her for the rest of her life.

Sadly, Kiki died before she reached her 40th birthday. So Suze Orman never had the opportunity to realise her dream.

Now, while that last statement is factual it isn't entirely true. You see Suze Orman spent 7 years being a waitress but the day she took on a new role as a Financial Adviser, she knew she had found her purpose in life. Being a Financial Adviser and helping others to make sound financial decisions resonated with every fibre of her being. She knew that this was what she was meant to do.

Who would argue that Kiki didn't play a key role in helping Suze Orman recognise her purpose in life? Kiki may have been a matyr in many ways but now, instead of Suze Orman helping to liberate just one individual - she's literally impacting the lives of millions of people by showing them the way to financial freedom.

I think Kiki would be filled with pride, don't you?

So are your habits empowering or sabotaging your success in life. If you have disempowering don't be afraid to seek help on whatever level you may need it. You deserve to live an abundant life.

Image Compliments Wikipedia

About the Author

He has been living in his dream home for about 10 years now and, as you watch him give his guests the guided tour, you can see that he's completely at one with his environment.

It's a beautiful home, stylishly decorated and adorned with art - he's quite a collector. It's large and spacious without appearing overwhelming and the views from just about anywhere in this home are stunning. But this post is not about this home. It's about the process by which it was acquired.

John Assaraf saw a picture of a lovely house in a magazine. It was the type of home he knew he wanted to live in some day so he cut out the picture and placed it on his vision board. And he meditated and visualized the goals he wanted to achieve every day.

"Visualize and meditate your way to success. Vivid visualizations are fuel for your dreams.
John Assaraf

He imagined what it would be like to live in this home. He visualized:

~ What he would see as he moved through the house
~ How he would feel living in the house
~ What he would hear in the tranquil setting
~ The delicious meals he would share with family and friends

He worked hard at building his business - multiple businesses in fact. He took inspired action. His success grew and grew. Then an opportunity came up to buy a lovely new house. He made the purchase and then, like most home-owners he spent time renovating the house to transform it into the home he desired.

So, it was a while before he got around to fully unpacking. Then, one day his son came into his office and asked what was in one of the storage boxes. Rather than go through a lengthy explanation, he decided to simply show him. It was then he realised that the picture on of the house on the vision board was his home. It was an overwhelming moment.

You too can achieve what John Assaraf has achieved. Vision boards are just one of a multitude of ways which you can help to achieve your goals and manifest your dreams.

The key is FOCUS. You have to maintain your focus on what your goals and the things you truly desire in life no matter how far they may be out of your current reality. And the creation of a vision board is one way to do this.

Another way is to make your own personalized movie composed of images, pictures and affirmations relevant to your goals. Setting this movie to a powerful and motivating soundtrack will help enhance your emotional response to your movie.

For best results you should practice visualizing and watch your personal movie several times a day. The best times are when you awake and just before you go to sleep when the sub-conscious mind is more receptive.

In "The Secret" Jack Canfield also talks about how he harnessed the power of visualization to achieve a goal that he had set. He wanted to earn $100,000 - a huge goal for a teacher who was on a salary of $8,000 per year. He placed a large thousand dollar note above his bed so that it was the first thing he saw when he woke up and the last thing he saw before going to sleep.

He would focus on this big goal and visualise what it would be like living the lifestyle of someone earning $100,000. By the end of that year Jack Canfield earned over $92,000 from the sale of a book that he'd already written. In other words the means to earn the additional income was there but until he set the target of earning $100,000 he was unaware of the opportunities to do so.

So don't be afraid to set big goals and dreams. It takes no more effort to set a goal for something small that something big and tap into the power of visualisation to achieve your goals and manifest your dreams.

And for a complete system to create your own movie, symbolic of the goals and dreams you want to achieve in life visit:

Create Your Mind Movie

About the Author

Your outer world is simply a reflection of your inner world.

"Mind is the Master-power that molds and makes, and Man is Mind, and ever more he takes the Tool of Thought, and shaping what he wills, brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills. He thinks in secret and it comes to pass; Environment is but his looking-glass."
James Allen

The thing is, you were born a pure genius, filled with promise and unlimited potentiality. But the majority of people do not approach anywhere near their full potential. So what happens to us?

Well, basically society boxes you in and surrounds you with numerous boundaries and limitations. Even think about the way in which most people work. Most people work within the confines of a cubicle and then they're expected to think outside of the box.

So essentially, your inner genius becomes trapped. Think of it like a Russian Doll. You lift the doll but instead of lifting the whole doll you lift off just a shell of the doll. And you repeat the process until you reach the last doll. Unlike its predecessors this doll is not hollow. It's dense and it's solid.

The outer shells of a Russian Doll are analogous to the many limiting and negative self-beliefs that confine you and entrap the true essence of you. If you persist in removing these shells you'll finally reach your true genius and enter a state of pure potentiality - a state where you are truly limitless.

The problem is that most people do not persist with the process of breaking through limitations. After removing just a few of their shells they become frustrated and perhaps even bored by the process because progress can appear slow.

For many others it's simply too much hard work. They forget that:

"Striving for success without hard work is like trying to harvest where you haven't planted."
David Bly

They cannot see that the sacrifices they make during this process are a means to liberating them to be able to achieve success and their ideal life.

People want fast results. They want to get to the 'core' quickly. They often refuse to acknowledge that this is indeed a process which some will complete fast and others will take longer to achieve. As Business Success Strategist, Stephen Pierce says:

"Everything has a process and you can't cheat the process. Understanding the process gives you patience."

And while the aim of the game is to be in touch with your authentic self, it's important to celebrate each smaller achievement as well. Also, while at first each subsequent Russian Doll may look familiar, upon closer inspection you'll notice intricate differences.

These differences are symbolic of the differences taking place in you even though you may not at first notice any significant changes. However, so long as you are diligent and use proven techniques to effect the changes, they will take place. In fact, personal growth and development can be likened to the growth of ginseng.

Wild Ginseng takes about 6-8 years to grow to a point where its roots are mature enough to harvest. That's a long time but the results are well worth it.

Ginseng extract is beneficial in treating a wide range of diseases including stress, depression, rheumatism and high blood pressure. It's also beneficial in helping to improve mental alertness, stamina and endurance. Similarly, the more you enhance your personal growth the more benefits you'll achieve.

However, returning to the Russian Doll metaphor, as you progressively remove your limitations your sphere of influence becomes bigger and bigger. Your confidence will grow and you'll be able to achieve success and manifest your goals faster and more effortlessly.

About the Author

By claiming his sixth Wimblon championship he has also equalled the number of times Pete Sampras won the men's singles title, reclaimed his No 1 World Ranking and is now being hailed as the world's greatest tennis player of all time.

That's no small achievement and it hasn't always been easy. When interviewed after his epic match with Andy Roddick, which lasted 4 hours and 16 minutes and consisted of a total of 77 games, he admitted how painful it was to lose to Rafael Nadal last year. The latter was another epic battle lasting 4 hours and 48 minutes and consisting of 62 games.

Afterwards Federer said:

"The rain didn't make it easier but you have to expect the worst and he's the worst opponent on the best court. It's a pity I couldn't win it but I'll be back next year."

And, while it hasn't been all smooth sailing for Federer this year when he arrived at Wimbledon you could see he was ready for battle. It wasn't just the gold trimmed military-styled apparel. His body was more chiselled and he appeared relaxed and confident. He looked like a man who had re-built himself from the inside out.

The experts will agree that Federer didn't play his best tennis yesterday and Andy Roddick certainly diddn't make it easy for him. The match swayed back and forth but Federer held on. Defeat is never easy but so often our greatest achievements follow our greatest defeats. When Federer lost to Nadal last year the defeat also ended his winning streak on grass - a total of 65 matches.

You have to have the courage to stare defeat in the face and persevere striving towards your dreams and your goals. You have to be prepared to fight long and hard for your what you desire. To be successful in doing this you have to have enormous self-belief and you also have to have a deep-seated passion or love for what you do. It is this passion that will help carry you through the rough times.

Serena Williams, the most successful women's tennis player of her era can certainly attest to this. She defeated her sister Venus Williams 24 hours before Federer to win her third Wimbledon title (7-6 (7-3) 6-2).

Although there have been reports of the sisters moving on to pursue other interests they both insist they have a deep love for the tennis and will not be quitting the sport any time soon.

And John McEnroe made a very interesting and telling observation about Serena Williams and her own epic battle to win the semi-final match against Elena Dementieva. The Russian certainly pushed Serena to her limits and he said that even when on paper it looked as though she was losing the match Serena Williams had an air of confidence about her.

He said she radiated self-belief as though she knew not that she could but that she would bounce back and be victorious. And what was more telling he said it appeared as though the Russian believed it. She finally succumbed 6-7, 7-5, 8-6. Self-belief is powerful.

Serena has the attitude of a champion:

"I've got to fight. If I'm going to go down, I'm going to go down screaming and kicking."

Serena Williams has 22 Grand Slam titles to her name - awesome! The difference however, between her accomplishments and that of Federer - is that Serena Williams Grand Slam title consist of singles and doubles titles (11 singles, 9 doubles and 2 mixed doubles); Federer has won all his Grand Slams as a singles player.

Despite his achievements Roger Federer remains incredibly humble and very gracious and these qualities endear him to fans across the world. However, despite his awesome achievement what shines through is his sheer love for the game and this is essentially why he plays tennis and this is what has enabled him to become great. Love 15.

Image compliments Business Wire

About the Author

However, there's no doubt he was also a rather troubled individual.

He made millions of dollars with his music but it was also clear that he was not adept at money management. In fact, he has been described as "a millionaire who lived like a billionaire".

Jackson may have had lots of riches but he also accumulated massive debts and, as for wealth, there were many areas in his life where he lacked wealth. And, one of the reasons Jackson agreed to the comeback "This Is It" tour was he needed to raise cash.

But Michael Jackson was not healthy. He was frail both mentally and physically and many people, for whatever reason, seemed to ignore the signs that his well-being was in serious decline.

When you hear reports that he was underweight and taking a variety of drugs on a regular basis it makes you question what kind of medical examination could declare him fit period, far less fit for such a strenuous undertaking as this proposed tour.

You need to be in tip-top physical shape to be able to withstand the rigours of the entertainment business. And it was not like he was going to sitting on a stool to serenade his audiences. No this was meant to be a high voltage comeback tour. This level of performing will find your Achilles heel and take you out if you're not properly prepared.

And while Michael Jackson obviously loved to perform, he had no need to ever perform again. He created such a body of work - a wonderful legacy that will live on, thrill, awe and inspire entertainers and other people for generations to come.

So, getting back to the lessons about money and wealth that can be learnt from this saga. Basically, at age 50, Michael Jackson decided to go back to work. Now don't get me wrong, I love entertainment and if artists want to go on performing well into their later years I applaud them but not if they're obviously not cut out for the physical and mental rigours required for this level of performing.

So here's the thing we all need money in order to survive in this world but if you don't learn how to rule money, money will rule you. Money cannot buy you happiness but the lack of money can cause a great deal of pain. As Ayn Rand said:

"Money is only a tool. It will take you wherever you wish, but it will not replace you as the driver."

And it's not even about the amount of money you make - it's the amount of money that you keep that counts. Throughout our lives a great deal of money will pass through our fingers and those of us who learn and practice money management skills and who are disciplined with regards to money will get to keep a larger proportion of that money.

Now while it's important to accept responsibility for the management of your money you don't have to do it all yourself. You can hire individuals to help you manage various aspects of your finances.

So decide the age that you wish to 'retire', set goals for your retirement and work diligently towards achieving your goals. And ensure that when you reach your 'retirement' age you can simply live your life as you choose.

Ideally, you'll already be following your passion and so it's unlikely that you'll just live out the rest of your days chilling out on some beach or whatever else takes your fancy. Instead, as you reach your designated retirement age your life will evolve into a new and even more exciting phase.

For a contemporary example of this just take a look at Bill Gates who is now able to focus his efforts on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. And while even donating money has its challenges there's no doubt that Bill Gates is enjoying these new challenges as well as working together with his wife in a new and exciting way.

Michael Jackson also donated generously to many charities but this is not about philanthropy. It's simply about having the financial freedom to live life on your own terms and to be able to dance to the beat of your own music.

About the Author

"The Mental Game of Money" was a major catalyst of change in the lives of many people. Yes, some people actually went on to massively increase the amount of money they were earning. For instance, one individual built a million dollar portfolio in 30 days but for others the change wasn't directly related to making money. Many people reported significant changes in their health, their relationships and other areas of their lives.

The seminar was held in London a few more times and was very successful. And each time similar results were produced. Some achieved greater financial success while others achieved breakthroughs in other areas of their lives. And yes, there were some who were initially enthused about what they heard at the event and the prospect of turning their lives around but, at the end of day, for whatever reason, they failed to take action. And of course, I don't need to tell you where their story ended.

These were some of the primary reasons Dr Topher Morrison felt he needed to change the seminar to "The Mental Game of Life". Now to be fair, "The Mental Game of Money" was a very holistic seminar. As the name suggests, it looks at your inner game regarding earning money and touched upon a number of topics that you would not normally associate with a seminar about money, such as forgiveness.

However, its creator recognised that consistently making more money and creating more wealth - not to be confused as being one and the same - are more of a psychological game requiring a whole life approach. We often use the words money and wealth interchangeably but in reality they are very different. One way of describing money is as a currency - it what you use to buy stuff. Wealth, on the other hand can encompass wealth but much more besides and wealth is also more about your mindset.

Another interesting fact emerged from "The Mental Game of Money" seminars. Those who went on to make significantly more money after attending the event were those who were either already on their purpose path or those who subsequently discovered and followed their purpose path.

So this was the backdrop to the development of "The Mental Game of Life" seminar. Now the initial seminar was advertised on a relatively small budget and with minimal resources. However, buoyed by the success of its precursor, the promoters of "The Mental Game of Life" set aside a larger budget and more resources to promote and advertise the event.

Despite this, the numbers attending "The Mental Game of Life" were a fraction of those attending "The Mental Game of Money". In hindsight, this perhaps wasn't so surprising after all but it is a sad reflection on our society where so much emphasis is placed on material things and the acquisition of money. Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with acquiring things and possessing lots of money can help to make life more enjoyable.

What the stats were indicating is that people were generally more interested in making more money than improving the overall quality of their lives which ironically would enable them to make more money. But as Dr Topher Morrison points out:

"Until you can value the totality of life more powerfully than you do money, true wealth will always elude you."

The dynamics between money and wealth are being played out over and over again in our society. A very public and dramatic example of this is the sad saga of the late Michael Jackson. It is my belief that the so prophetically named "This Is It" tour was devised primarily as a means to make money. And I believe that the mounting pressure of this comeback tour ultimately lead to the demise of the strange yet gifted performer.

As Mae West said:

"I've been rich and I've been poor. Believe me, rich is better."

And I agree with this wholeheartedly. However, you need to understand the psychology of wealth and the mental game of life if you are to be victorious and win the game of money.

Your Chance to WIN!

For a chance to win the 5-DVD set of "The Mental Game of Money" - simply send an email to:

winningthegameofmoney@getresponse.com

About the Author

Worse still, many don't even attempt to pursue them because of something called failure. Yet the irony is that the more we try to run away from what we perceive to be failure the more failure stares us in the face.

One of the reasons why people let failure get in the way of their achieving their goals is because they forget the real objective of goal achievement. Achieving your goals is great but the real success lies in what you become as a result of pursuing your goals.

Albert Einstein said that you cannot solve a problem at the level at which it was created. Similarly, for you to achieve your goals - something greater that you have previously achieved, you have to grow bigger than you were before. And so, even if you don't achieve your ultimate goal you may actually achieve something better even though you may not realise it at the time.

Internet Marketer Russell Brunson is an example of someone who had a dream and felt the agony of his dream slip through his fingers. For a while he felt like a failure but he soon realised that although he didn't achieve his ultimate wrestling goal his years of dedicated training even while on family vacations and years of competing had strengthened him not just physically but also mentally.

So after losing a critical wrestling match he turned his mental toughness, energy and focus to business. He was still in college but that year he generated $250,000 in sales. The year following his graduation he did even better. In fact, he quadrupled his sales generating over $1 million dollars. And his business has gone from strength to strength ever since and he now operates a multi-million dollar business.

But his passion for wrestling still burned in his soul and so he recently made a bold decision to train for the 2012 Olympics. Two key individuals inspired him to make this decision and it's no surprise that they both come from wrestling backgrounds.

The first was Matt Hoover, the winner of Season 2 of the NBC's Biggest Loser. Matt Hoover is also a former wrestler but, following an injury which forced him to stop competing, he experienced eating disorders which resulted in his weight ballooning to over 300 lbs. When he started the Biggest Loser series he weighed in at 339 lbs. He won that series by losing 157 lbs over a period of 9 months.

Matt Hoover is currently training for the 2009 Ford Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii - an event certainly not for the faint-hearted. And he too has decided to return to wrestling and make a bid for Olympic glory. Matt Hoover willl be fighting for his dream.

The second person is World Bronze Medalist Justin Ruiz who had hoped to compete in the 2008 Olympics. When he lost his qualifying match during the Olympic Trials he was devastated.

He took some time out but one night when he happened to view a video of that fateful match on Youtube he knew that he had to try at least one more time. He decided that he would fight for his dream.

It took an adjustment of Russell's mindset to see that he could still pursue his childhood dream of becoming a world-class wrestler. Matt Hoover is several years older than Russell and if he was prepared to go after the ultimate dream of any athlete what was standing in his way?

Ironically, the manner in which he has structured his business and the success of his business is giving him the freedom to fight for his dream and to do so in a manner that would not have been possible when he was still in college. So when Russell lost that match that put a stop to his wrestling career, rather than being a failure it could have been the best thing to happen to Russell.

In Steve Jobs 2005 to the graduates of Stanford University he talks about "connecting the dots" and the fact that we cannot see how our lives will unfold. Therefore, once we truly commit ourselves to achieving our goals we have to trust that whatever happens is the best outcome even though it may not appear so at the time.

If you're courageous and persistent enough to fight for your dreams then you will meet failure many times along the way. And, as Barack Obama said:

"Making your mark on the world is hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it. But it's not. It takes patience, it takes commitment, and it comes with plenty of failure along the way. The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won't. It's whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere."

To find out more about the big way in which Russell Brunson is pursuing his Olympic Dream visit the URL below. I was inspired when I simply heard that he was going to train for the 2012 Olympics but I was blown away when I saw how he was doing it and the lives he is changing even now at the start of his epic journey:

Fighting for Your Dreams

What dream will you fight for?

About the Author

He also belongs to a very elite group of individuals, who number less than 50 people worldwide, entrusted with the title Master Trainer of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP).

He is a highly sought-after hypnotherapist and NLP Master Trainer who assists clients including multi-national executives and Olympic athletes to achieve higher results. He is also in great demand as a speaker and his presentations are renowned not only for their rich and practical content but also their entertainment value.

He believes that life should be lived as an epic adventure and that individuals should play hard as well as work hard. So it comes as no surprise that he is of the view that earning money should be fun.

It makes sense when you think about it for if having lots of money makes life more enjoyable shouldn't making money be enjoyable too? However, the truth is that many people are not only struggling to earn money they are also miserable earning money as well.

Why is this? Dr Topher Morrison is of the view that:

"You can't win the game of money if you don’t know what drives you to succeed financially. When you have that driver and you know your path, you will start winning the game and it will be fun again."

Again, this makes complete sense and so whether you're currently facing financial challenges or simply wish to sharpen your wealth mindset then "Winning the Game of Money" is a great event for you to attend.

However, even with games rules have to be strictly adhered to otherwise chaos ensues. When you're in this state things happen almost effortlessly and life feels tranquil. Bruce Lee once said:

"Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless - like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend."

Now, while I wouldn't say that my life is completely in flow, some recent events really helped to put my life into perspective. In particular, I was working on a project where, among other things, there was a lack of organisation, clarity and direction.

I felt myself becoming very frustrated and instead of flowing I was literally crashing. But, before I go into those details, let me tell you a story about something that happened to me when I was a little girl - things that go bump in the night.

We had just moved house and my sister and I were temporarily sharing a bed. I was sleeping on the outside and one night I fell out of bed not once but three times! The first time I fell the sound awoke my mother who came into the bedroom but I was already back in bed.

Puzzled my mum went back to her bed and then I fell the second time. Again my mum came into our room to investigate but everything was as it should be. Then I fell the third time. Now either I was slow this time or my mother was fast but this time she caught me climbing back into bed. She quickly assessed the situation and took remedial action. She made my sister and I swap places. Finally, everyone could get a good night's sleep.

So going back to my crashing - over the past couple of weeks I've fallen twice. It's been years since I've fallen and then twice in two weeks. On the first occasion I almost bounced back up and was off and running again. It was alomst funny. I'm pretty fit, strong and agile and so when I do hit the deck I don't need an 8-second count.

The second time I felt a sharp pain as my right knee hit the pavement first then my hands instinctively came down to break my fall (funny expression that). I could literally hear the air rush out of me.

I don't know if such an event has happened to you but time seems to slow down. I did a quick mental check kinda like in the sci-fi movies when you see cyborg checking its systems to assess damage. Yes, I was hurt but it didn't seem to be serious.

I pushed myself off the pavement and moved off again. I wasn't running this time though. I was hobbling. I changed route, veering off the main street and went down some back streets to give myself a chance to recover my gait.

I'm still recovering from that injury although it's not as bad as I first feared. However, movements that I used to do without even thinking about them I now have to adapt or not do at all. Fortunately, I can still teach my classes.

I didn't need to be told a third time - two falls was enough.

And you know the Universe has a way of giving you just what you need when you need it. So I'm no longer working on the project where I felt out of sync and I'm in the process of making some other changes to my life. I'm now in the process of getting back onto the main street of my life.

I like the analogy of being like water but I prefer being in flow to crashing.

About the Author

Deciding to do is."

For you see nothing happens until a decision is made. You've probably heard that nothing happens until a sale is made but think about it. When you make a decision you've effectively sold yourself on an idea.

The problem is that people sometimes struggle to make even the simplest of decisions and because of this they remain stuck. They're almost in a state of paralysis.

One reason for this is that people not only have the freedom to choose their own way; often they also have a multitude of choices. And while, on the one hand, the latter can be a blessing, it can also be a curse as when confronted with too many options the mind becomes confused and its decision-making capacity is diminished.

Unfortunately, indecisiveness can derail your chances of achieving success. As Napoleon Hill discovered:

"Men who succeed reach decisions promptly, and change them, if at all, very slowly. Men who fail, reach decisions, if at all, very slowly, and change them frequently, and quickly."

Napoleon Hill also goes on to say that indecisiveness and procrastination are twin brothers. People procrastinate on making decisions because then they don't have to take action. However, they are shooting themselves in the foot because they cannot make progress towards their goals if they don't make a decision.

People often worry about making the wrong decision and yes, it is possible to make a mistake, but most mistakes can be corrected. Often the route to your goal is not direct and you have to keep adjusting the direction of your course until you reach your destination. And the more you improve your decision-making skills the fewer mistakes you'll make.

So just how do you go about improving your decision-making skills? Well, you start with the very next decision you have to make. T Harv Eker said that:

"The way you do anything is the way you do everything."

In other words, if you have poor decision-making skills it's not going to only show up when you have to make a big decision. It's going to show up in every facet of your life. You probably hesitate in deciding what shoes to wear, which restaurant to have lunch at or whether to drive or use public transport to get to your meeting.

So get into the habit of making the simple decisions swiftly. Also, notice and congratulate yourself when you do this. Practice this relentlessly for at least 30 days. You will then find that it becomes easier to make more challenging decisions because you will have installed a new habit.

In addition, notice the positive consequences of each of your decisions because you can be certain that just as every decision you fail to make has a cost every decision you do make has a benefit. In other words, regularly perform cost-benefit analysis of the key decisions that you make. You see, at the moment you may be indecisive but you may not be fully taking into account what your decisiveness is truly costing you.

For instance, how much did you lose when you hesitated on making that deal? How much did you potentially lose when you didn't apply for that job even though it was perfect for you?

However, it's also important to do the opposite as well and acknowledge what you gained by being decisive. Take note of both the tangible and the intangible benefits. When you do this you'll be quick to recognise the full benefits of being decisive and you'll find that your decisiveness as well as the level of success you achieve in life will come on by leaps and bounds.

Decision-making is an important leadership skill. People do not have confidence in someone who is indecisive. However, the most important person to successfully lead in this life is you for as as Robert F. Bennett said:

"Your life is the sum result of all the choices you make, both consciously and unconsciously. If you can control the process of choosing, you can take control of all aspects of your life. You can find the freedom that comes from being in charge of yourself."

About the Author

As I was citing an example I had a moment of revelation. It amazed me that I hadn't thought about this particular situation in this manner before.

At school I naturally had different English teachers. My marks were generally good but when I had one particular teacher my marks were always lower than usual. What's more, a certain group of individuals in the class always received better marks than I did. It was frustrating. And this was a pattern that repeated itself several times.

I perceived that the teacher has a bias towards these individuals and, to be fair, other situations supported this view. Now this view could have been true or false but what happened is that I resigned myself to the fact that when I had this teacher I would receive lower marks. It's not that I didn't try to get better marks but the expectation was always at the back of my mind that my grades would be relatively low.

Today I realised that, whether or not the teacher did indeed have a prejudice, I affected my results. I expected lower marks and I wasn't disappointed. Like it or not I attracted those marks.

"Our thoughts create our reality - where we put our focus is the direction we tend to go."
Peter McWilliams

Now, it could have been that this particular teacher wanted me to work harder, to really stretch myself. She might have been trying to communicate to me that to excel I had to do more than the ordinary. If I did this the outcome may have still been the same regarding my marks but I would have certainly grown more.

I could have been more proactive about this matter and actually asked her what it would take to get higher marks. I recall an episode of ER where Dr Peter Benton played by Eric La Salle was confronted by one of his mentees and asked why he was so hard on him. I don't recall the exact dialogue but Dr Benton effectively told him that the reason why he was tough on him was because he wanted him to excel and not be content with mediocrity. Aha!

My teacher has passed on but her influence continues to live. Whatever, this teacher's motive I am grateful for the lessons she has taught me. This shift in perception is causing me to look at other situations in a new light.

I think even my teacher would appreciate the irony in the following quote:

"To begin with, our perception of the world is deformed, incomplete. Then our memory is selective. Finally, writing transforms."
Claude Simon

There may be situations in your life right now where a shift in your perception could make all the difference to how you feel and how you consequently act. So take a new look at any situation that may be troubling you. See how a change in your perception can help you to overcome the challenge presented. It's so much more empowering to be at cause rather than effect.

About the Author

In the winter it stands bare, stripped of its splendour but in the spring it produces a mass of beautiful white blossoms. The flowers appear over the course of a few days like kernels of corn which have reached bursting point.

This grand annual showcase is a poignant reminder of the quote by Anais Nin:

"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom."

Many people lament about not being able to truly master success and achieve their full potential. It's like they're caught in a tight bud whose development has, for some reason, been stifled. The thing is, if instead of fulfilling your true destiny you do indeed remain in a bud you're robbing the world of your unique gifts.

But the question is why does this happen in the first place?

Year after year, the tree in the garden blossoms. It knows of no other way of existence. It simply abides by the Laws of Nature and the Laws of the Universe. The tree doesn't worry about what will happen when it blossoms. It doesn't worry that its beautiful flowers are transient. It doesn't hold flowers in reserve. It produces its flowers in abundance. The tree simply fulfils its destiny.

You are a higher life-form than the tree. In fact, you're the highest life-form of all. Success is your birthright.

The difference between you and a tree is that you can think and you can choose. So while the tree abides by the Laws of the Universe you don't have to.

You can consider different options and different paths to take to achieve your goals. But the irony is that unless you abide by the Laws of the Universe your success will be limited and your results will be inconsistent.

So while the tree simply flows with nature and exists in harmony with Universal Laws you will sometimes live in harmony with laws and at other times you will be out of step with these laws. The good thing is that you will know in which state you exist because the Universe always gives excellent feedback by the way of your results.

Simply put, if you're achieving the results and success you desire then you're working in harmony with the Universal Laws.

One of the many reasons why people do not achieve the level of success they desire is because they worry about what it would be like to achieve their goals and be successful. Some worry that their family and or friends might become resentful of their success. Some people think that they will not be able to handle the extra responsibilities that come with success. Some think that becoming wealthy as a result of being successful might change who they are.

They start to rationalise that becoming successful might not be such a good idea after all. Of course these reasons are generally ill-founded. Nonetheless, they're powerful enough to keep them from achieving their goals. They sabotage their success and when the time comes for them to bloom they remain tight in a bud.

If you can relate to this a good exercise is to imagine yourself 5 years down the line. What would life be like for you if you don't take the 'risk' to blossom and things continued along their present trend?

~ Where would you be living?

~ How much money would you be earning?

~ What would you be doing for fun and recreation?

~ What would be the state of your health?

~ How would your family be living?

Answer these questions honestly and you'll find that the perceived 'risk' is insignificant compared to the potential gain. You'll stop resisting change and your true nature. You'll give yourself permission to grow, 'blossom' and spread your abundance.

You'll start to live in harmony with the Universal Laws. You'll become a master at achieving success in your life and you'll give the world the invaluable gift of YOU.

About the Author

Then Learn How to Master the Universal Laws

Nature governed by Universal Laws and so operates in a very orderly manner.

In your society you are also governed by laws and if you fall foul of those laws you suffer the consequences. There are a multitude of different laws and some of them can very complex. So lawyers specialise in different types of law. In other words they become experts in a specific area of the law.

Now while you're probably aware of the general laws that govern your society you're unlikely to know the laws inside and out. So, at some point in your life, you'll probably hire an expert lawyer to represent you in a certain situation.

However, what many people fail to realise is that we are too are a part of nature and so the Universal Laws which apply to nature also apply to us. Yet, the majority of people stumble through life haphazardly hitting their goal targets because they do take the time to understand, let alone master, the Universal Laws.

The trouble is when it comes to your life you can't delegate. Only you can live your life and if you don't learn, understand and work in accordance to the Universal Laws you will suffer the consequences. You'll experience random success and you're likely to feel extremely frustrated because things just don't seem to go your way.

Many have described life as a game. However, you can't win any game if you don't know the rules. So to win the game of life you have to understand its rules and then apply them. It's that simple.

"Life is a game. Play it."
Mother Teresa

The movie "The Secret" did an excellent job increasing people's awareness of the Law of Attraction and how it works. However, many people have become frustrated with their attempts to manifest what they desire.

One reason why people fail to manifest their goals when applying the Law of Attraction is because it's only one of the laws that you must abide by if you want to live your ideal life.

"Most people don't ever go beyond where they're at because they just don't understand the rules or the laws that govern their success."
Bob Proctor, The 11 Unforgotten Laws

Others seem to achieve success by default. It seems that whatever they decide to do they achieve success and yet if asked how they managed to be so successful they often struggle to explain their level of success. Bob Proctor describes this phenomenon as follows:

"A small percentage of people live in harmony with the laws most of the time but there's only a small percentage of that percentage of that particular group that really understands what's happening. Most people who are really successful cannot truly articulate on why they are."

Still, if an astute person who understood the Laws of the Universe examined how they achieved their goals they too would be able to see how these individuals were working with the Laws albeit unconsciously. They would notice how these people worked in harmony with the Laws.

For example they would observe that these successful individuals provide enormous value wherever they go and whatever they and consequently are rewarded by the Law of Compensation. They focus their attention on the things they desire and so are able to significantly to expand these areas - Law of Increase. They interpret the trends that exist around them whether or not the general public think of these things as positive or negative and instead of trying to fight whatever is happening they simply learn how to adapt to whatever is going on and go with the flow - the Law of Non-Resistance.

Unfortunately, you're born with no awareness of the Universal Laws. This awareness usually comes later in life. By this time your programming is such that you have been effectively programmed to violate the laws. So to succeed and win the game of life you need to understand the rules of the game of life and then reprogram your mind so that you play by those rules. Only then can you truly become a master of achieving life success.

About the Author

However, what many fail to accept is that failing at a task does not make you a failure. It's how you perceive the outcome of your actions that determines whether or not you consider yourself to be a failure.

Failure is simply feedback.

It simply lets you know that the combination of action steps that you took in your attempt to achieve a particular goals was not successful. And here's the thing - you can get so wrapped up in your feelings of being a failure that you miss seeing that while overall you may not have achieved your desired outcome that there may have been elements of what you did that were successful and that by tweaking and improving these elements you can probable achieve the result you desire.

"Remember the two benefits of failure. First, if you do fail, you learn what doesn't work; and second, the failure gives you the opportunity to try a new approach."
Roger Von Oech

Alternatively, it may not have even been the action steps that you took that were at fault but the order in which you took those action steps.

Also when many people perceive that they have failed instead of wasting no time at all in getting back in the game, they procrastinate. And procrastination plays a big role in the success equation. In Formula 1, for example, you often see what appear to be horrific crashes. The truth is that nowadays safety measures have improved to such a degree that the impact of a crash on a driver is not as bad as our imagination would let us believe.

And once the driver involved in the crash has been given the medical all-clear they can't wait to get behind the wheel again and race. They realise that at some point they may crash again and that throughout each and every race they'll probably make numerous errors. Some will be minute but others will be very costly indeed. However, each and every time they get behind the wheel they're aiming to do the very best they can do. And sometimes, this will be rewarded with a race win.

When a driver doesn't win a race he doesn't brand himself as a failure. He simply analyses the race to see what mistakes he has made and where he can improve. And he focuses on the next race.

In some industries failing is vitally important. For instance, it is important to know how and under what conditions an engine will fail. As the American Engineer Charles F. Kettering said:

"The biggest job we have is to teach a newly hired employee how to fail intelligently. We have to train him to experiment over and over and to keep on trying and failing until he learns what will work."

Life is a game and so make failing part of that game. Too many people stifle their progress in life because they're too afraid of making a mistake. Noah St John, author of "The Secret Code of Success", advocates giving yourself permission to succeed. The irony is that to succeed in life you also have to give yourself permission to fail:

"Don't be afraid to fail. Don't waste energy trying to cover up failure. Learn from your failures and go on to the next challenge. It's OK to fail. If you're not failing, you're not growing."

So get ready to fall flat on your face and get up again in your quest for success. For centuries man has marvelled at its scale and beauty, even now that it's a mere shadow of its original splendour. Man has also been intrigued by the question of just how such a complex structure was built.

There have been several theories. One theory is that of a long external ramp but to build the Great Pyramid of Giza this ramp would have to be about a mile long. Constructing the ramp itself would a project as exacting as building the pyramid itself.

Another theory is that a ramp that wrapped itself outside the pyramid was used. This theory is now also seen as being impractical as it would ruin the sightlines needed to make the measurements to ensure the accuracy of the dimensions of the pyramid.

A third theory involves the use of cranes. Yet the sheer number of cranes that would have to be used and how they would have needed to be positioned also rules out this theory.

Apart from now being considered impractical, these theories all have one thing in common. All these theories are based on external solutions.

Then French architect Jean-Pierre Houdin proposed a radical new theory. This was something he had been worked on and developed with his father a retired engineer. He claimed the Ancient Egyptians used an inner ramp to move the massive stone blocks into place. Using this theory the pyramids were effectively built from the inside out.

Archaeologists had been seeking an external solution when all along the answer was internal.

Using 3-D software applications Jean-Pierre Houdin has been able to 're-construct' the Great Pyramid. Not only has he been able to demonstrate that his theory works but he has been able to demonstrate that, using this theory of an inner ramp effectively spirally around the inside of the building, he could to construct the Great Pyramid within the time-frame that this monument was constructed.

While hundreds of complex calculations and algorithms have been used to prove the practicality of Jean-Pierre Houdin's inside out theory, the elegance of this theory lies in its simplicity. As Albert Einstein said:

"Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler."

But there's something else. The knowledge to build the pyramids has always been here. The Egyptians simply tapped into this knowledge. And the "mystery" of the pyramids is not really a mystery at all.

We simply had to shift our awareness.

The answer was staring us in the face. We just didn't see it. And now, as well as being able to demonstrate the building of the pyramids using 3D digital software we can see the remains of the physical evidence within the pyramids themselves that support this theory. So the big question is:

"What are you not seeing in your life?"

For the same applies to us as human beings. The solutions we seek lie within us. Yet, all too often, we search outside ourselves for answers. It takes a shift in our level of awareness to be able to "see" our personal solutions within us.

This increase in awareness can be brought about in many ways. Coaches, teachers and mentors can help and so too by simply having an insatiable curiosity about life, in particular your life and who you are as a person.

Again as Albert Einstein said:

"I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious."

We can solve the most complex challenge that life throws our way simply by having a deeper understanding of ourselves. The more we understand ourselves the more our awareness expands and the more we evolve as human beings.

When faced with a particular problem a person will often say they don't have the answer. However, the Roman Emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius had a simple way of solving his problems:

"Today I have removed myself from my problems, or rather have got rid of my problems; for they weren't outside me, but inside and especially in the judgements of my mind."

So follow your own internal ramp. Who knows what treasures you'll discover within the corridors of your mind?

About the Author

Their negative thoughts play a key role in the negative results they achieve in their lives. However, sometimes they don't even realise their thoughts are so negative. It takes someone else to draw their attention to their negative speech - a symptom of their negative thoughts. People often ask how is it possible to stop your negative thoughts? The answer is simple but it does require persistence particularly in a climate - economic and otherwise - where negative energy abounds.

Think of an intrepid explorer entering a cave. It is pitch-black, cold, dank and ominous. Initially, he strikes a match which provides a bright spark of illumination but it is quickly extinguished. He then lights the end of a stick, the end of which is covered in strips of cloth that have been soaked in fuel and lights this.

This provides greater illumination and he can see that along the walls of the cave are numerous lamps. He starts to light these lamps and as more lamps are lit the darkness within the cave is diminished. Then his companions, from whom he was momentarily separated, bring light as well and soon the cave is flooded. With light and the explorer can see that the cave is no longer a place to fear. In fact, he can now see many wonderful treasures in the cave that were hidden in the darkness.

In this analogy the light represents your positive thoughts and the darkness your negative thoughts. The more positive thoughts you introduce into your mind the less room there will be for negative thoughts. However, just as the cave would be plunged back into darkness should the lights within go out the same thing will happen to your mind. So you have to keep reinforcing the positive thoughts.

Also when you maintain a positive outlook on life you no longer view the world as a harsh place. You are more aware of the good that surrounds you. In addition you are better equipped to deal with any challenges that life throws your way.

The individuals who brought additional light into the cave can be likened to your teachers, mentors and coaches. In fact, they represent anyone with a positive energy who is supportive and helps you to develop into your best self. We all need such individuals in our lives and you too can become such an individual to another.

So to stop your negative thoughts you simply have to introduce positive thoughts. Remember the mind can only think about one thing at a time. So at any point in time you're either thinking positive or you're thinking negative. When you catch yourself thinking negative thoughts you can use a pattern interrupt technique.

For instance, some folks like to say out loud to themselves "CANCEL!" and at times when this may not be appropriate you can empathetically say a silent "CANCEL!" to yourself. Another technique is to wear a rubber band and to snap it against your skin when you catch yourself thinking negative thoughts.

However, remember that you have to be persistent. Just as if the lamps in the cave were to be extinguished the cave would be plunged into darkness then if you stop feeding your mind positive thoughts then you'll simply succumb to the adverse effects of your negative thoughts.

A regular diet of positive thoughts will also help to safeguard you against all the negative thoughts and energy that exist in the world. You can't help but be exposed to this negative energy but you can effectively shield your mind from it by building your own positive energy through positive thinking. In addition, when you cultivate positive thoughts you'll start to vibrate on a higher frequency and you'll start to attract like-minded individuals - individuals set on achieving success in life.

The Law of Thinking is one of the Universal Laws that you must learn to master if you're want to achieve consistent success in your life. You can find excellent resources to help you better understand the Universal Laws and master your thinking in a life-changing program at The 11 Forgotten Laws.

About the Author

All are of no value unless they are followed by action."

This prompted the following response:

"This quote is very good and should be sent to all those that attend seminars in the UK, very few ever take any action."

The thing is that this phenomenon of not taking action after attending a seminar is not limited to the UK. It occurs universally. Obviously, I'm making a generalisation here because naturally there are some people who do follow through and achieve tremendous results. However, sadly it has been shown that the majority of folk simply do not take action and, as a consequence, their lifestyle does not improve.

There are several reasons why people don't take action. Let's take a look at three of these reasons.

1. Lack of Preparation

"Success depends upon previous preparation, and without such preparation there is sure to be failure."
Confucius

Many individuals get swept away by the promise of what a particular seminar can deliver. They purchase their ticket and then simply show up on the day but they haven't thought through what it is they specifically want to get from the seminar.

I've attended many seminars and people show up without even a pen or pencil and something to take notes on. As Glenn Dietzel, author of "Author and Grow Rich" says:

"Writing is the doing part of thinking."

And, if people aren't prepared to even take notes what hope is there that they will take action after the event itself.

Decide beforehand what you want to gain from attending a seminar. Maybe you're seeking new information about a particular topic or maybe you want to network and gain new business contacts. You may even want to have the opportunity to have a one-to-one with the presenter of the event. Then decide the best way to achieve what you want.

Be prepared to take notes. Have a list of questions to which you're seeking answers. Have a large stack of business cards to share. I once attended a speed networking event and an individual taking part had hurriedly written his contact details on bits of paper. It hadn't occurred to him that at a speed networking event that a business card would come in handy.

Remember the more prepared you are the more professional you'll come across and the more you'll gain from the event.

2. Lack of Belief

"For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible."
Stuart Chase

I've heard several speakers begin their presentation with the words: "Don't believe a word I say". They mean it sincerely as they are asking you to question and challenge what you hear from them as opposed to just soaking it all in. They're asking you to listen to what they have to say and then come to your own conclusions. And, when your mind is in such a questioning state, you're more attentive and you tend to remember more of what has been said.

However, our sub-conscious mind doesn't process negatives and so to the sub-conscious mind the initial instruction effectively comes across as "Believe every word I say".

Still, there are some people who are very sceptical. Perhaps they were somehow coerced into attending the event so they're unwilling participants. They see the speakers as charlatans and they're ready to pick holes in whatever they say. They close their mind to learning new knowledge and they're definitely in no mood for taking action after the event.

Sometimes, an attendee lacks self-belief. They listen avidly to the presentations but deep inside they don't believe that they can achieve the level of success that the speaker has achieved. They forget or close their mind to the fact that many of the speakers came from very humble origins. They forget that the journey to success for many of these individuals was often years in the making.

They have good intentions but after the seminar they will sabotage all their efforts to follow through.

3. Feeling Overwhelmed

"The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one."
Mark Twain

At many seminars nowadays, in order to provide value for money and to appease a wide range of appetites, there'll be a line-up of speakers. Sometimes you can hear as many as 12 speakers over the course of a weekend all speaking on different topics.

You'll have the opportunity to witness some stunning presentations and hear some amazing information. You're literally blown away. Most of the speakers will have a program that they'll invite you to purchase and I've seen some individuals buy half a dozen programs.

The trouble is that there is no way that person can do justice to all these programs. They get into a state of complete overwhelm and they end up doing little or nothing. The programs get shelved and maybe even get packed away in the garage where they gather dust and become forgotten.

When you go to a seminar check out who is presenting and what they'll be speaking about. Prioritise the speakers you most want to hear and what you want to learn from them. It's fine to listen and learn from the other speakers as well but refrain from being pulled in too many different directions.

The hallmark of success is FOCUS. It may be that you could incorporate all the different strategies you hear into your business but you'll never be able to do this all at once. Decide what's important or even what you think you can handle at this time. Phase things in gradually.

The important thing is to gain some measure of success as FAST as you can. There's nothing like that feeling of success when your hard work starts to pay off. You can then build on that success.

About the Author

As such, there are probably several things about your home which may be having an adverse effect on your health and well-being but which you may not be able to readily change. On the other hand, there may be several things that you could change that would have a beneficial impact on your health and well-being if only you knew how.

Sheri Ruston's new book called "Feng Shui Made Simple: Room by Room" is an elegantly compiled, simple guide to transforming your home one room at a time. This morning the first thing I did when I woke up was brush my teeth and wash my face. However, when I went to the bathroom and opened the tap, not for a moment did I did question whether or not I would indeed have water and if it was clean. I take these things for granted.

However, this year 1.8million people will die from waterborne diseases and the majority of these individuals will be children. The drink that should give them life is instead killing them.

On the surface the problem seems overwhelming but there is a solution. And the best news of all is that the solution is relatively simple and today you have a unique opportunity to be part of the solution and part of a historic occasion.

To mark the launch of his latest book "Twitter Power: How to Dominate Your Market One Tweet at a Time" the New York Times Best-Selling author Joel Comm will be co-hosting the world's first live broadcast Tweet-a-Thon and raising money for Water For Life at the same time.

Twitter is a POWERFUL networking platform which individuals, small business owners, large corporations and celebrities are using to interact with friends, clients and fans. I cut the rotten portion of the apple away but, as I suspected, the apple was rotten to the core. So I abandoned my idea of a raw breakfast and decided to make some cornmeal porridge instead.

However, I guess the incident put me into a rather philosophical and contemplative mood because I began to see lots life sessions as I prepared my breakfast that morning. First of all, when the apple was in the fruit bowl I couldn't tell it was rotten. My perspective of the apple was that it was fine. It was only when I picked it up and turned it over that I could see its defects.

In life, many things will appear to be 'good' when viewed from one perspective but when viewed from another can be seen to be 'bad' and vice versa. For instance, many people are currently going through a particularly tough time economically which may be seen as 'bad'. Yet, this current economic climate is filled with exciting opportunities as well. It's a chance to:

~Re-invent yourself,

~ Try new endeavours, and

~ Make yourself more resourceful and resilient.

So it's important to change your perspective on situations, to look at situations from different angles. Practicing this on a regular basis can help to broaden your imagination. It can also help ensure that you don't miss out on opportunities or, conversely, decide to pursue something only to discover later you made a poor decision which could have been avoided if only you'd considered all the angles.

So having tossed the rotten apple into the bin I set about making my cornmeal porridge. Now I some folk think making porridge is too time-consuming - they'd rather pour some corn flakes into a bowl. I think my health is important and worth spending those few extra minutes on.

There's an art to making cornmeal porridge. It's sort of like making custard. You don't want to end up with lumpy porridge. As the porridge thickens the grains of ground corn start to clump together. You have to ensure that you stir your porridge vigorously at this time to break up the lumps and keep the porridge smooth. You also want to ensure that you cook the porridge slowly so any lumps that do form do not get the chance to harden as well.

So what has making porridge got to do with lessons in life? The small lumps that start to form as the porridge thickens can be likened to problems we face in life. If we deal with problems quickly then they are often easily dispelled. However, if we ignore problems that we encounter, they don't go away. Instead, they become bigger until they reach a point when the problem becomes unmanageable.

Going back to the porridge metaphor you then have to abandon that particular batch of porridge or you stubbornly eat lumpy porridge. Sometimes in life having to abandon a particular situation is actually the preferred option. Other times people end up living with their problems. These problems drain their energy and spirit and some can even be life-threatening. It's not a great way to live your life. However, there are many times when nipping a problem in the bud can prevent catastrophic consequences.

The other secret to making deliciously smooth porridge is to cook porridge on a low heat. If you try to cook cornmeal porridge on too high a heat level then the lumps will form faster than you can deal with them. This is like taking too much on in life. Sometimes this can be a good thing and is necessary. Sometimes we need to stretch ourselves. But, if you find yourself dropping too many balls or if, for instance, you notice that your health is faltering, take time to re-evaluate and re-prioritise your life.

You're probably thinking that was some pretty heavy thinking for so early in the morning. However, I am pleased to report that my cornmeal porridge was indeed deliciously smooth and, topped with cinnamon and brown sugar, was very yummy. :-)

About the Author

This equates to about an extra litre of milk per day.

You see even cows don't like to be treated like individuals and as though they have a bar-code tattooed to their udders. However, it's not so much the naming of a cow that leads to an increase in milk production but the fact that cows with names tend to be cows that farmers talk to. When farmers talk to cows it tends to calm them and this makes them more productive.

One of the drawbacks of farm automation is that, while it may make a farm more efficient, it can result in loss of productivity. And we can learn a lot from this research. Our lives are also becoming increasingly automated. And while we are communicated to on an unprecedented level, we often fail at developing meaningful connections. This is part of the allure of social media networks and those who are most successful at networking are those who have fine-tuned the art of connecting.

For instance, did you know that one of the greatest compliments you can pay another individual is to simply refer to them by name. Yet so many people fail to do this very simple thing in their day-to-day interactions with other individuals.

I saw "The Devil Wears Prada" for the first time last night (I know, I'm way behind the times). In this movie, the ruthless and brilliant Miranda Priestly, beautifully played by Meryl Streep, calls all of her junior assistants "Emily" thereby effectively robbing them of their identity. In fact, when Miranda Priestly calls an assistant by their real name it's a sign that they are performing well in their duties - not an easy feat as the boss is so demanding.

However, one does wonder at what a difference it would have made to the morale and performance of her team if the powerful Miranda Priestly relented somewhat, called her assistants by name and even spent a little time interacting with them. Those able to endure her tough command were certainly loyal but indications were that she went through quite a few assistants. They turned out to be "disappointing".

So do you know your clients and customers by name? Do you address your clients and customers by name when you talk to them? You'd be amazed at what a difference this can make. The more you're able to develop the connection between you and your clients the more likely they are to stay with you. Simply knowing and using your customers name can make a difference to your bottom line. And it's such an easy thing to do.

Image: FreeDigitalPhotos.net

About the Author

There's a particular weed called nut grass which I was deliberately leaving in the beds.

I was using my bare hands to pull the weeds out by their roots. However, nut grass has a tendency to break off in your hands. It leaves behind a root which has little 'nuts' spaced along its length. The 'nuts' are about the size of a hazelnut and, in time, they sprout, bear new shoots and do on to generate their own root system.

So you see, to effectively get rid of this weed you have to carefully dig it out. Breaking off the shoots may look effective in the short-term but before you know it your garden bed will be literally covered in nut grass.

Even when you aim to dig this pesky grass out you're unlikely to get rid of it the first time because of the complexity of its root system. It is process you'll have to keep repeating but so long as you do so you'll keep this weed under control, giving the plants you wish to cultivate a greater chance of thriving.

The same thing can be said with respect to getting rid of bad habits. Bad habits are often deep-rooted within you and just using a superficial, sporadic approach to getting rid of bad habits will be met with limited success.

You have to be thorough and relentless in your approach. You also need to have a measure of patience because you'll be sorely tested time and time again. However, if you are consistent with your efforts to eradicate bad habits and replace them with new positive habits over time you'll reap great results.

Your bad habits will grow weaker and weaker allowing you to reap the benefits of the good habits you've chosen to cultivate instead.

About the Author

For instance, yesterday morning I noticed that the battery for my computer was not charging. I checked the connection of the power cable to the computer and it seemed fine.

Then I realised that there was no electricity flowing through the power adapter. I read this to mean that either something was wrong with the power adapter or something was wrong with the cable. I surmised that there was a fault with the power adapter. There was of course another reason why I experiencing this particular problem but, at the time, I didn't think of this.

Anyway, I contacted my brother who advised me of places I could try to get the computer parts I thought I needed. However, after I finished speaking to him I had another look at the cable and, in particular the plug. I thought that maybe the fuse in the plug needed replacing and if this was indeed the case I should check this out before going further.

Now it so happens that there is a small hardware store very near to where I'm living so I went there and was told by the manager that while he didn't stock what I was looking for the shop next door did. Unfortunately, they were not open yet. Then for some reason I started to explain in greater detail the problem I was experiencing before I had simply asked he sold fuses. The manager asked if this problem had just occurred this morning I replied yes and he told me that there was a electricity cut.

I burst out laughing. Here I was worrying about the time, energy and expense I would have to go through to get my computer up and running again when the reason I wasn't getting power to my computer was because there was none! I discovered later that it was quite a widespread power cut.

There are several lessons to be learnt from this experience. One is that we often make issues more complicated than they need be and worry about things we simply don't need to worry about. When this happens we:

1. Expend energy needlessly without any positive gains,

2. Dissipate our energy with the result that our power is weakened, and

3. Direct our energy to the wrong things so the real problem remains unresolved.

The other lesson to be learnt is that to effectively solve any problem we have to get to the heart or root of the problem and fix that. At best, we may be able to find temporary solutions but they will be just that - temporary. However, it is also likely that you'll end up going around in circles, never resolve the situation and end up accomplishing nothing.

When faced with a problem always consider the heart or root of the problem. It can be daunting at first but you may be pleasantly surprised to see how straightforward the solution is.

About the Author

It's frustrating but it's a reality that the majority of people who set goals at the start of a New Year will not materialise their goals.

The reason for this is very simple and if you fall into this category reflect upon the following. The year may have changed but have you?

You see we set goals with our conscious mind and so goal setting is a relatively easy process. However, in order to achieve our goals we have to carry out certain actions. Our actions or behaviour are governed mainly by our sub-conscious mind which generally likes things to stay just as they are.

Therefore, your sub-conscious mind is not going to be supportive of your trying to change things - even for what you consciously perceive to be better. You may therefore find your best efforts to achieve your goals are sabotaged.

To be successful at achieving your goals you have to work on changing your mindset. You have to re-program your sub-conscious mind.

Expressed another way, when you set goals your intention is to change your outer environment but you cannot change your outer environment without changing your inner environment.

So how do you go about re-programming your sub-conscious mind?

Create your personal success ritual and practice it diligently and consistently. Now, there will be days when you don't accomplish everything you set out to achieve. However, be forgiving and yet persistent and eventually you will start to notice shifts. Furthermore, one day you'll find that your personal success ritual has become just that - something which you habitually and almost effortlessly carry out.

There are three main areas regarding creating your personal success ritual.

1. Nurture Your body

If you were about to set off on a long journey in your car you would make sure that your car was in tip-top condition and that it had plenty of gas. The process of goal achieving is very much like setting out on a long journey.

However, often in the movies the vehicle that ends the journey is a far cry from the vehicle that started the journey. Usually, at the end of a movie the vehicle is only fit for the scrap heap - if that.

In contrast, ideally you want to end your journey in great physical condition because while achieving your goal may mark the end of one journey it also marks the start of another. Hence, ensure that you eat healthily, drink plenty of fresh water, and that you exercise regularly as well as get adequate rest.

2. Nurture Your Spirit

Make time to clear your mind and spend time in quiet reflection and or meditation. Bob Proctor said that "Mental activity does not constitute thinking."

People's minds are often active but the same old, non-productive thoughts are going round and round. When you calm your mind you can see things much more clearly and this can dramatically accelerate your progress towards your goals.

"The more tranquil a man becomes, the greater is his success, his influence, his power for good. Calmness of mind is one of the beautiful jewels of wisdom."
James Allen, author of "As a Man Thinketh"

Meditation has numerous benefits, one of which it helps you to focus and sharp focus will be vitally important as you strive to achieve your goals.

3. Nurture Your Mind

You can achieve this by saying positive affirmations and by reading, listening and watching empowering personal development material. Enlist the support of a mentor or coach to help keep you focused and motivated.

Eliminate excessive negative media from your life. Unless, you completely isolate yourself it's virtually impossible to escape negative media altogether. However, you don't have to immerse yourself in it as some people do and then wonder why they feel so depressed.

To help target your sub-conscious mind - the level at which change must occur for you to see positive changes in your results us tools such as vision boards and Mind Movies. These tools will encourage you to feel motivated towards achieving your goals as among other things they will help you to feel a deeper emotional attachment to what you're aiming to achieve and, as Earl Nightingale said:

"The more intensely we feel about an idea or a goal, the more assuredly the idea, buried deep in our subconscious, will direct us along the path to its fulfilment."
Earl Nightingale

About the Author
