Things are so insane

Wonderboy turned 2. Boogie turned 6. Caty flew in from California and I am a content Mama who has 4/6 at home right now.

The snow is melting, the days are getting warmer and I personally loved this winter. We hardly had any snow! I have to admit I am ready for grilling weather and I am ready for visits to the zoo.

I am still reading,reading,reading. Right now I am reading another uplifting book, this one about serial killers. I think my next read will be The Help again. I need a book to make me laugh. I have joined Goodreads if anyone wants to add me. Simplyatomic. I’m looking for some good book suggestions. G is a copy cat and he now has a kindle too. I was shocked when he went to bed to read last night while Caty and I watched ” The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virgina” A MUST see if you have Netflix.

Wonderboy has started talking. Not just a word here or there but total sentences. This morning he told G and I ” Duckie sleeping in Mimi’s room” :O A huge change from a boy who only said COOL CARS a month ago. We havent figured out why he calls Caty “Duckie” But it will probably stick. Just like Yaya did for Ally, Mimi did for Emmy and jerkface for G (ok I made up that last one)

I have huge news to share, I promise maybe hoping I will update this week about all the exciting happenings in the Simply Atomic household.

I can’t stop reading!

The blog has suffered since my ability to read  has increased. So far I have finished all ut the last book in the Hunger Games trilogies. Not sure what  is either the Sookie books or the Dexter books. Something I can laugh with instead of feeling dread.

Thinking about potty training

When my 21 year old (well, ALMOST 21) was about 15 months she saw her sisters panties and was potty trained from that minute on. She knew she wanted panties and she knew what she had to get them. I wish any of my other kids were that easy. I look at Wonderboy and I can just tell he is not ready. *I* am not ready for the pitfalls of training a boy.

I found this while googling “potty training a boy” Someone seriously has too much time on their hands! And it sparkles too, so scary.

I think I will wait until he shows me signs, just like his sisters did before him. And for shits and giggles,literally maybe! I will once in awhile put him in some undies (See Nate I didn’t say panties) and see if he knows what to do. He did once and now he sits on the potty fully clothed going ” pssssss” with his mouth so I think we have a bit of work to go

Changes..

If there is no struggle, there is no progress.

So many things are changing around me, I feel like my head is spinning. My oldest is getting married, my youngest is turning 2, our baby making days are over and there are other things I don’t feel quite ready to talk about yet.

I sat here thinking about New Years Resolutions and if I was going to make any. Everyone wants to lose weight, everyone wants to get healthy, save more money, get rid of debt, etc. I want all of those but more. But what more? I just know I want more but I don’t know what and I don’t know how I will do it.

I did accomplish my 5k goal and I want to do more. I did lose weight in 2011 and I want to lose more (as I sit here and shovel M&Ms in my mouth) I am proud of both of those.

I want to go vegetarian for at least 3 months and see how I feel.

I want to do more 5ks.

I want to see my beautiful daughter walk down the isle and marry her dream man.

I want to get healthy with G and do things we never would have done before.

I want it all! And somehow I am going to accomplish it all this coming year!

This post is going to have some profanity.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again: I am three dead cats, 3ft of shit and caving pathways away from being on Hoarders.  Every time I watch that show I think “holy shit that could be me in a few years” and well, I don’t want to be on tv telling the professional organizer why I have so many things in Target backs and so many clothes from Target ( THEY WERE ON CLEARANCE!)

Before anyone imagines the gang and I climbing over piles of clothes or calls CPS, our house isnt like that. If I indeed invited Hoarders to come over they would laugh at me and walk away. I just FEEL like a hoarder, I hold on to things I need to not hold on to, and it is time to declutter.

I have sold all of Liam’s clothes and as I fill that box I know that these are things that will no longer be in my house. This is a step in the right direction. Remember I am the girl who still has a box of girl baby clothes in the garage that I actually paid to move to Iowa with us and our youngest girl is 5. I filled a box of donate clothes out of our closet and shockingly enough I did not die and although my anxiety went through the roof I know doing this is the right thing.

I am going to stop buying things because they are on clearance and cute and only buy what needs replacing. I am going to sell off toys that no-one uses and donate what I cannot sell. Wish me luck as I descend into madness and not shopping my beloved Target clearance racks.

So I am the worst blogger ever.

Every day I think to myself that I need to come and blog. And every day something else happens and I don’t end up here. Here is a rundown of the last few weeks.

1. They thought I had cancer, I had surgery and there was no cancer. Hooray!

2. My Mother in Law came when I had surgery. Enough said.

3. I got a horrible cold and it seems its back again with me and the kids.

4. We’ve had some ups and downs that really kind of shook us.

5. Looks like we might be relocating. More on that later since its is months away.

6.Christmas came and went without much fanfare. G and I had the stomach flu ( I am sensing a sick theme here) and the kids played happily while we were sick and slept most the day.

7.Caty finished school and is now working on her internship! Go Caty!

8.Allyson took the test she needed to get into the school she wanted and will be starting in Feb. Go Ally!

9.Lolaladyboog lost her first tooth.

10.B Wonderboy is trying to talk and count, I think his speech is somewhat delayed but I hear boys talk later. He is saying some 2-3 word sentences but unless it is about a COOL CAR it really doesnt matter in his world.

I promise I am going to change this hideous monster layout. (bet Shorty would love it in blue!) But the girls liked it and eh, I figured what the heck. It will change a few times before I find something I really like.. its like anything else, I can’t let it be the same for too long.

I am decluttering our lives and trying to go minimalistic. Pray for me cause I really like my stuff.

Felt tree for the kids

I saw this idea of a felt tree for the kids that they could decorate and un-decorate all they wanted. So even though I have really no craftyness to speak of I decided to try and make one on my own.

2 yards dark green felt (we could have gotten away with 1 1/2 yards)

Hobby Lobby has 4 squares for $1.00 so I got 3 red, 2 green,2 black,3 yellow and 2 white.

We bought one large bow and the package of gold bows at walmart and two packages of velcro.

It looks slightly wonky because its in a corner but it was the best spot for it in the house. I sewed some of the decorations and stuffed them with stuffing from a stuffed animal we were going to toss anyway. The candles are just felt and embroidery thread. The girls have since made some of their own ornaments with the leftover felt and had a blast doing it.

They have loved it and even given me ideas to make some pretend presents for under it! I have to say the pictures do not do it justice and I really love how it turned out. I hope that someday my Grandkids will be decorating this tree.

You can’t tell in the pictures but it is on the wall with double sided velcro, I attached it at the top, middle and both sides of the bottom. Even the cat is not getting that sucker down and she has tried.

I hope someone else out there tries this and shows me pictures, it really has turned into one of the best Christmas decorations that I have ever done. It seems to get redecorated every few minutes!
