Well there is no reason why you shouldn't make the change I guess. the file you need can be found at /admin/panel-forums/forms/sfa-forums-create-forum-form.php and you can find the input text line easily enough and change it.

Buy you should not lose ANY text when you load it up for editing. The text size is not limited to the space in the input field and the database column where the description is held is very big. Assuming this is 4.1.x

Would it be possible to make the forum description field a textarea rather than just a text field?

My reason being, I need to add several lines of text to each forum description, and once saved it only shows a portion of my description (the rest being spluttered out underneath the text field).

The text description works on the forum, but everytime I edit that forum I have to re-add my lengthy description again otherwise it saves only the portion that fits in the limited size text field that currently exists.

Simple modification and would be a handy addition for me in particular, and others I'm sure.

That's fine.

I assume you mean XHTML validation. Validation checks on the codebase are run regularly. We also test all views with php debug on and even clean those warnings up.

I would welcome a PM listing the validation errors you have seen plus a note on which tool you used to check with.

As to speed - bbPress is always going to be faster but that is because it is designed specifically to be a simplistic, basic bb system with no real feature set. It s good at what it does. the others you mentioned are all standalone forums that do not have to work alongside the WP codebase and are therefore focused on being a forum. This is a WP plugin.

I can live that simplepress forum is loading slower than BBpress, SMF, BBphp forum. What I am really missing is validation. All of the above are validated but simplepressforum. I count 15 errors. As much as I like your forum I am saying good by till will pass validation without one error.

if you ask a question and dont want to sign up, then you need to check the site periodically. we have considered this a couple of times and rejected it each time. plus the method you suggest is no different than signing up.

Hi,

As we all know, letting guest users to have a little control on your website is getting more important day by day. People do not want to sign up just to provide an answer to a simple question.

One thing i realized that, some of the questions asked by guest are answered but the person who asked the question cannot be aware of it. If there was an extension which lets guests to subscribe to discussions by providing their emails, it would be great. Here is the working scenario;

1) I asked sth in the discussion and I want to subscribe to this discussion without signing up
2) click subscribe to this discussion link on the left
3) ask for the email address
4) send a deactivation link for the subscription to the email address so that the person can deactivate his/her subscription later
5) send email when someone adds a comment to the discussion

In this way, guest users will be more willing to signup because they will be provided with a more qualified service.

what do you think ?

Powerful forum sw, but for sites intended to be used from both a mobile web browser and desktop, its formatting is too cumbersome (even with a lot of features turned off).

profiles changed a lot in 4.1. More flexible and many more hooks (although there was a bug that prevented some from displaying which is corrected in 4.2). The hooks will probably give you what you want but best to wait.

If you would like to be showcased could you write us up a couple of short paragraphs on why you chose SPF and how it is working it for you? Policy is that the user supplies the text to be fait and impartial! We would appreciate it....
