The people at Penguin HQ are so damn glad it's the weekend. After idling in traffic, jumping turnstiles at the Silver Spring Metro station, and hiking for blocks and blocks, everyone's just happy not to commute somewhere. There's no need to get in the car or hop the Metro this weekend to enjoy a little sumpin sumpin.

The guy who took a bullet outside a City Place gym Monday evening was shot during a drug deal, detectives with the third police district announced Tuesday in a press statement.

I live just east of Flower Avenue and would have sworn my block was in Takoma Park. But then I learned there was no voting ward in Tuesday's election for me, as apparently I live in East Silver Spring. My mail is delivered to Takoma Park, zip code 20912. Google Maps tells me I live in Silver Spring, zip code 20912.

One Takoma Park city council member told me the long-standing boundaries are peculiar. Terrific, but can I vote in Takoma Park's elections or what?

Music-hall talks move closer to a deal, Leggett says (again)

Negotiations between the county and one landlord to develop a music hall in downtown Silver Spring were close to wrapping, MoCo exec Ike Leggett declared.

Expect an official announcement in about six weeks, Leggett told The Penguin last Saturday at ye olde library's book fest. Exactly what would be announced was unclear.
