If you have never touched a Tarot deck in your life, you are going to love Andy Matzner’s book The Tarot Activity Book. If you are a Tarot Reader, you are going to be horrified. Andy, if you are reading this, don’t panic, hang in there. *chuckle*

For you non Tarot readers, you are going to love this book, because you do not need to know how to read Tarot. Andy’s unique approach to self-development involves using the cards in very non-traditional ways. For all you Tarot readers, at first you will be shocked, because Andy’s unique approach to self-development involves using the cards in very non-traditional ways.

For example, Andy invites you to

select cards face up … What? You mean look at them to select the card? Not let the Universe decide?

paste the cards into collages and other crafty projects … Eeeek! You mean permanently?

cut the cards up …. *faints dead away*

Now, for you non Tarot readers, you are wondering what the freak out is all about. Well, us readers treat our decks as sacred tools. It’s like asking someone to cut up the Bible or the Quran. But, Andy’s techniques to explore our psyche through the artistic component of Tarot cards is just so gosh darn fun, I began to wrap my mind around the concept of possibly maybe buying decks to use in this manner. I mean, how cool will it be to create a personal totem pole inspired by the cards? Or to write poetry based on the cards?

As a professional Tarot reader and Personal Power facilitator, I also greatly appreciated that Andy wants me to incorporate his exercises into my own practice and workshops. In fact, he encourages healers of all kinds to openly use his exercises. None of this ego proprietary stuff. ”Go for it!”, says Andy. Now that is my kind of fellow healer.

If you haven’t read Tarot, and are not even necessarily interested in it, but want fun ways to explore self-development, get this book. If you are a Tarot reader, professional or otherwise, loosen up any hold you have on the traditional way to handle the cards, and get this book.

The Tarot Activity Book has dozens of fun, innovative, and creative ideas for self exploration. It just happens to use Tarot as the source of inspiration.

A lot of my clients are women in transition. Their children are grown, or nearly grown, and they now have time to themselves. What they find, however, is they have lost touch with their inner voice.

One of these women asked me to explore through a written 3 Card Reading her tendency to second guess her decisions, and experience anxiousness. She wants to grow spiritually, and knows that this will lead to more happiness and gratitude. She also wants to pass her lifetime of wisdom onto her children. She has started to explore personal power tools, such as Tarot, but wonders if she is on the right track.

The Reading

Dear Client, the cards that come up for you are The World, The Tower, and the Five of Wands. The first two are soul level cards, so you are indeed going through deep personal development.

The World is an awesome card. This talks about a BIG completion. This confirms that you are well on your way to tapping into your intuitive self. You have taken an awesome step forward realizing that true happiness comes from your thoughts, not from the external world.

The Tower talks to the importance of creating a firm foundation. Think of the parable of building your house on sand. I love that you not only want to create a firm foundation for yourself, but want to pass that wisdom along to your children as well.

The Tower also talks about listening to small messages from the Universe. When you block out those messages, or override those messages, then the Universe ups the ante. This could be where your anxiousness is coming from. Your ego is taking over and doing a lot of talking, blocking out the messages from your intuition. The trick is to thank your ego for its attempt at advising you, then kindly ask it to Shut Up

The Five of Wands is at the day to day level. It talks about attempting to create something. In the card, there are five men with sticks trying to assemble something, but they haven’t got their act together. They will. It is just a matter of time and creative thinking. You are already actively building the live your want. First, by acknowledging where you are at and where you want to go. Second, by taking active steps to develop your intuition with tools such as Tarot.

Bottom line, you are well on your way.

Gracefully yours,

Eliza

I am sure many of you can relate to my client’s predicament. She has a successful career, but she has completely lost her passion for it. She asked me to do a written 3 Card Reading to help her sort through her conflicting feelings about wanting to move onto something else, which means giving up everything she had worked so hard on. She is also working through a health issue, which is adding to the drain on her energy. Now, for good measure, throw in the fact that she struggles trusting her own instincts.

The Reading

Dear Client, the cards that came up for you are the Eight of Cups, the Wheel of Fortune, and the Eight of Wands. Interestingly, only the Wheel of Fortune is at the soul level, and it is in the middle or the ‘transition’ position. The cards on either side are day to day practical cards.

Okay, let’s take the first card which is the Eight of Cups. Cups represent emotion and the number eight means that you have been there done that, and now you are starting to question where to go next. This is a total validation of where you are at. You were doing fulfilling work, but that no longer does it for you.

In the card, there is a person walking away from the cups that are all neatly stacked up, just like you are walking away from career activities you had lined up. Also of note, on the card is an eclipse of the sun and the moon. This means that in order to move to the next step, you absolutely need to combine your intuition (moon) with any action (sun) you take.

The next card is the Wheel of Fortune. This card confirms that the only thing that is certain is change. Given that it is in the ‘transition’ postion, in order to move forward you need to embrace change. Right now, I get the sense that you are beating yourself up. You are probably questioning why you would drop your existing career. Perhaps there is even some guilt involved, as in “What right do I have to drop sure things and move on?”. Give yourself permission to embrace the change.

The last card is the Eight of Wands. Again, the number eight talks about questioning where you are at. Wands represent your creative self. In the card, eight sticks are flying through the air. However, we cannot see where they are going to land. The unknown is always scary. But, it is also very freeing. Your health issues are very draining. However, take this forced period of slowing down to explore what turns your crank. Do not feel you have to rush into anything.

Ultimately, you can do absolutely anything you want to do!

Gracefully yours,

Eliza

Recently, I did a written three card reading for a client who is feeling stuck. Does any of the following resonate with you?

Her job is stressful and she brings that stress home with her. By the time she gets home, she is too cranky to take any positive actions towards improving her life. As a result, the housework is piling up, and more critically, her relationship is impacted. What she really wants is to look forward to retirement, and a life filled with joy and bliss.

The Reading

Dear Client, the three cards that show up for you are The Chariot, Death, and Judgement. Interestingly, these are all soul level cards, so there is a deep shift happening.

The Chariot starts things off. This card talks about taking your gifts, as in your spiritual gifts and talents, and putting them into action. Right now you are stagnant. You know you are stressed about work, you know cleansing work needs to occur, but there is no forward movement. No action. The Chariot says it truly is time to put things into action.

Next we have Death. This card is in the middle so is the transition card. Death seems like a scary card, but it isn’t. At least not once you embrace it. In order to move to the Judgement card, which we will get to in a moment, you absolutely have to kill off that which no longer serves you. Not indiscriminately. Like you say, you do not want to toss out the babies with the bathwater. In fact, The Chariot also talks about controlling the journey, not careening wildly down the road. You know in your heart of hearts what needs to be cleansed and purged.

Judgement is a beautiful card. This card is all about coming into your own and finding your true calling. Of living in joy and bliss, just like you are seeking. You are seeking a road map, but think of the jumble in your life as one of those paper road maps that has been folded up all wrong and shoved in the glove box. It is darn near impossible to make sense of it. Compare this to a fresh road map. So much easier to read.

You have all the tools you need to move forward. The trick is to overcome inertia and get rolling. Yes, it does involve some cleansing, but the life you want is waiting for you on the other side.

Gracefully yours,

Eliza

I attended an advanced mediumship (psychic) workshop facilitated by Tania Thomas. In that workshop, someone asked the following question:

Can a psychic tell if you are psychic?

I held my breathe waiting for Tania’s response. If she said “Yes, a psychic can tell you if you are psychic, or not”, I was going to lose all respect for her. This would have been an ‘only special people are psychic’ response.

Of course, this wonderful lady answered appropriately. Tania responded along the lines of

“Well, the question isn’t really required because everyone is psychic.”

YES!

Every single one of us is psychic. There are so many examples of this, such as:

knowing who is on the telephone before you even pick it up

singing a song only to have it be the very next song to play on the radio

walking into a room and experiencing an inexplicable emotion

I think a more appropriate question is

Can a psychic help me develop my own psychic abilities?

Then the answer to that is a resounding YES. We are all born with innate psychic abilities, but it is a skill set that can be developed. It is why people like Tania provide advanced mediumship courses, and why I provide Tarot courses. So that people can develop their own intuitive psychic abilities to really rock their personal power.

If you are interested in developing your innate psychic abilities through Tarot, I invite you to check out my course options by clicking here: TAROT COURSES

I am working with a naturopath and took a food intolerance test. Turns out I am massively intolerant to a lot: sugar cane; corn; wheat; oatmeal; rice; barley; dairy; eggs; yeasts; some nuts. I thought eliminating these foods from my diet would be difficult, but it has not been too bad.

However, living without treats is, well, not living. Thank goodness for Gwenyth Paltrow. That’s right, the actress.

Turns out Gwenyth and her son are intolerant to basically all the same foods I am. So, she decided to create a cookbook, It’s All Good, chock full of delicious recipes that her family can eat … and me. She has thoughtfully included treats.

I made her Candy Bars! recipe this weekend for my family, loaded up two plates, and what you see in the picture is all that is left. A few crumbs.

Here is her recipe, with a few additional notes from me.

Candy Bars!

1 1/2 cups raw cashews
1 1/2 cups dates, pitted and roughly chopped – I counted and this equals 21 dates
1/2 cup almond butter – I cannot eat almonds so used macadamia butter. You can use any nut butter, but make sure it has zero additives
1/2 cup maple syrup – the real stuff. Not that table syrup silliness
1/2 cup coconut flour – I did not have any on hand so used quinoa flour. This added to the nuttiness
1/2 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
1/2 tsp almond extract – left this out because it is almond. You can use vanilla extract as well, but I found the maple syrup to be plenty

Grind the cashews to a very fine meal in the food processor. The recipe suggests you do the entire recipe in the food processor, but moved the cashew meal over to my blender.

Add the dates, almond butter, maple syrup, coconut flour, shredded coconut, and almond extract and pulse until you have a sticky ball of dough.

Line a small sheet pan with parchment paper and press the cashew mixture out onto the paper, making a rectangle 1 inch deep. It helps if you put a drop of oil or water on your hands before doing this. Refrigerate the mixture for 6 to 8 hours, until firm.

The recipe then calls for a chocolate topping, but chocolate has sugar in it, so I skipped that as well. Trust me, you won’t miss it. One member of my family suggested dusting the top with cocoa powder. That would work nicely.

Cut into bite sized pieces. And I do mean bite sized. This is very rich!

My family found the texture a bit strange when they first bit into it. But once they wrapped their minds around it — think raw cookie dough — they leaped on the candies like sharks in a feeding frenzy.

Enjoy!

My response to the post was “It is amazing the abundance that flowed into my life once I realized that miracles are a fact of life.”

The first thing I had to do was redefine my definition of miracle. Or perhaps, I had to broaden it. Yes, I had to broaden it, because I was locked into the concept of Jesus healing lepers and turning water into wine. Miracles, in my mind, were rare occurrences that God did once in a while to remind us He existed.

That would be the first definition of miracle in the dictionary:

An effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause.

I was caught up in the word extraordinary.

But, let’s look at the next definition.

Such an effect or event manifesting or considered as a work of God.

As I have matured spiritually, I have come to realize that the Divine Force (God, if you prefer), wants me to rock my personal power. When I rock my personal power, I put out awesome energy into the world. When I put out awesome energy, I help someone rock their own personal power. And they then help someone else, and so on and so on.

Well, if the Divine Force wants to help me, then it stands to reason that all I have to do is ask! So, I started asking.

I always start with “Dear Divine Force, if it is in my highest good, I would please like (fill in blank).” I have gotten pretty good at narrowing down what is in my highest good, so 99% of the time, I get what I ask for.

Is water turned into wine? No, although that would be a cool party trick. But, here are some recent examples.

I decided that I needed to get serious about running the administrative aspect of my business, but I did not have a proper work space.

“Dear Divine Force, if it is in my highest good, I would please like a desk unit large enough for my paperwork and my jewelry making.” The very next day, a friend’s brother was selling his u-shaped desk unit for just $100.

I was getting frustrated finding the final element for my renovated studio, a nice wall to wall rug. For the size I needed they were all around $1,000. My budget was $300.

“Dear Divine Force, if it is in my highest good, I would please like an area rug I love for under $300.” The very next day, while in Home Depot for another reason, I found a sisal rug in the exact size and style I liked that was only $200 because it was a custom order return.

Are these coincidences? Not to my mind. Full blown miracles, in the sense that they were events manifested by God.

Am I delusional? Not to my mind. Totally realistic.

I expect miracles, and miracles happen.

Well, because I believe, and teach, that one of the things in our life that can affect our personal power is food. When we eat healthfully, our power is enhanced. When we eat not so healthfully, our power is drained.

My personal challenge with food is eating a diet that does not trigger my rosacea. One of those triggers is gluten, but I love bread! What to do? Gluten free bread found in the grocery store is dense and pretty much tasteless.

Well, I had to take matters into my own hands. My daughter, bless her health conscious heart, did a lot of research and discovered Jennifer Katzinger’s book Gluten-Free & Vegan Bread: Artisanal Recipes to Make at Home. We both bought a copy.

Jennifer takes a very different approach to baking gluten-free bread. She found that trying to use traditional bread making methods does not work, so she broke with traditions. The main one being kneading and rising the bread before baking it. Shocking, I know! My chef Hubby was horrified and highly skeptical. Turns out he had to eat humble pie, rather humble bread, because it works!

This actually makes bread making quite appealing to non cooks such as myself. Just mix and go!

The only challenging part is accumulating all the different flours that are used by the recipes. Fortunately, we have a very good health food store. My suggestion is to take one recipe at a time and slowly build up your supplies.

Jennifer’s book actually has a double whammy for increasing my personal power. Not only am I am able to enjoy my beloved bread in a healthy way, I am discovering the joys of bread making. There is something just totally comforting in the process.

Actually, triple whammy, because a kitchen filled with the smell of baking bread is enough to increase anyone’s sense of personal power. YUM!

Book Recommendation
