			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<!-- Start Shareaholic LikeButtonSetTop Automatic --><!-- End Shareaholic LikeButtonSetTop Automatic --><p>I recently picked up this Yamaha DT175c 1976 from a bloke in Perth, he had stripped it down to fix it up sometime in the early 80&#8242;s and had been lying in his loft since!</p>
<p><span id="more-1173"></span>I have had the frame and cycle parts powdercoated, by P &amp; J Powdercoaters at thornliebank, Glasgow, and as usual they did a superb job, I have rebuilt the front wheel with a NOS front rim and NOS spokes,</p>
<p>I&#8217;m currently waiting on spokes to rebuild the back wheel, forks have been rebuilt, along with the engine, rebore and new piston, bearings, seals gaskets etc, and done quite a bit of polishing,</p>
<p>I will update the gallery with some newer pics soon, as I am quite far on into the rebuild just now and almost have a rolling chassis!</p>

<p>few guys on bikes, the Honda Dominator taking out for its first main run, Marty on his YFZ450 and Des on the TRX400, Me &amp; all the guys on bikes, headed to the Ghost town, meanwhile Maty an Des decided to hit the hills.</p>

Marty&#8217;s YFZ was only bought last week, this was it&#8217;s first run out after a little farting about, but on the run we found there was a botch job done on the underside of the front sprocket on the sidecasing where the gear peg shaft sticks out, turns out it was bust and badly chemical metal&#8217;d so oil was pissing out everywhere, so in one picture you&#8217;ll see that we packed it full of moss and mud trying to put a little leverage on it,</p>
<p>The TRX has just been fully rebuilt from the ground up, with new powder coated frame, loads of time went into this quad,</p>
<p>this quad should be up for &#8220;<strong>Quad o the Month</strong>&#8221; or something, its just a great piece of work (Art) on des&#8217;s part :)</p>
<p>the YFZ will wait till after the summer for its make over.. )</p>
<p>anyway enjoy the pics.. also a few Graffiti artists took to the walls in Polphail to spray some amazing paintings&#8230;.<br />

<p>Ive recently bought 2 FJ1200&#8242;s I bought them quite cheap as they are in a bit of a sorry state, Theres a 93 model and an 87 model,<br />

I plan to fix up the 93 model back to &#8220;Standard&#8221; and the older one (Which i think looks better!) I&#8217;m hoping to make into a custom rat/chopper type bike. I think the older 87 bike looks far better, with the alloy swingarm, antidive forks, nicer wheels with polished rims etc. Don&#8217;t laugh, but I&#8217;m planning on building the 87 bike with a zombie theme&#8230;lol,, thinking of building a zombie face onto the tank&#8230; Watch this space!</p>

<p>I have already stripped the 93 down to the frame, it was a bit of a struggle, a lot of stiff bolts, but, touchwood, i havent stripped or snapped any bolts so far. I had the engine running, cleaned the carbs and sorted out the wiring, I eventually got it running nice once i sorted the wiring to the coils.</p>

<p>Man,,, this has been the quickest build ever,,, 4 weeks to get to the point you can see in the pics below,,,, I stripped it to the frame, painted the frame, engine, wheels, swingarm, forks, discs etc. started to polish the rims, polished the footpeg hangers etc,, i just used halfords aerosols, but went over it with a proper lacquer from the paint shop using the airgun,, looks not too bad, and should be quite tough., got the chassis rolling again, exhausts mounted, subframes etc.,,</p>
<p>the throttle cable is kinda holding me back from bolting more bits on&#8230;.. plenty to do in the meantime,,, still got the plastics to paint, and a couple of repairs here and there,, im goni repaint the silver colour on the plastics and tank, and re-lacquer all the plastics and tank,, should look minted when done&#8230;. hopefully in about 2 or 3 weeks&#8230;. come on the good weather!!!!!!,,, im hoping the second gear will be ok i haven’t drove the bike since i bought it in boxes!!, ive been reading a few articles saying how weak it is, hopefully the 93 engine should be ok,,</p>

<p>Heres a short video of the first start up video&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;..loads of smoke,, but this is the paint burining away from the exhausts and the engine,,, i had a wee bottle of wine to celebrate&#8230;lol,,, so if my spelling is off,, you know why&#8230;lol&#8230;</p>

<p>Looks OK when we got her at Manchester in June but this isn&#8217;t a runner far from it! These are definitely not toys and are in the racing class, still used to this day on the circuits, very big in the USA. Should be given great respect and driven by an experience rider, will keeping up with today’s high end quads in the correct hands and of course great fun!!!!!</p>

<p>This is my 2nd LT250R and my 2nd project. This time its a 1989 Suzuki LT250R Quadracer. Looks OK when we got her at Manchester in June but this isn&#8217;t a runner far from it!  This one is a a full rebuild again with frame work to be done. The gearbox will be replaced completely and a cylinder, piston and head from America as I only had the bottom end and a duff gearbox inside. Full seal and bearing replacement plus gaskets. Not to mention all the other new parts bought to bring her back to life.  Des will be keep you posted with the build over the next few months.</p>
<h2>Stage 1: Analysis</h2>

<p>Hi all Im <a href="http://www.shugtech.co.uk/crew/#fragment-4">Des</a> and I&#8217;ll be your host for this build. This is me with my other LT250R, this ones a 1986 LT250R. It has a 1987 engine installed. Much sought after engine because of the larger air intake and reeds. Now on with the build.  </p>

<p>We got the next LT250R in Manchester after seeing it on eBay. So we got in a van and had another road trip. This one is a 1989 LT250R which came with a load of parts, included was the bottom end of an engine far from usable but with loving care and time it could be returned to far beyond its formal glory.  Have a look at condition she was in. </p>
<p>The 1st pictures were took before it was sold to the guy at Manchester.  </p>

<p>The guys bought it like this in bits then flung it together! And yes it was gubbed.  The 1st picture is when we got to Manchester and took the 1989 Suzuki Quadracer LT250R to be restored and stripped and fully restored. The quad also came with quite a few parts but I knew, I was going to have to order a few things to get it running  </p>

<p>The frame was in a sorry state and needed welding done on it plus the rear brake master had no where in the frame to be bolted on too, it was missing! </p>

<h2>Stage 4: Engine Rebuild</h2>
<p>Update &#8211; 20/10/2010  Time to rebuild the engine. Gearbox was shot replaced the gears 2nd, 4th and 5th both meshing gears. The cases were stripped back the aluminium and polished. All seals and bearings renewed no chances taking, gaskets all replaced too.  Barrel head and Wesico Piston from the U.S. dome nuts on there way to finish it  </p>

<h2>Stage 5: Engine Mounted</h2>
<p><small>Update &#8211; 25/10/2010</small> </p>
<p>Got the engine mounted and the head arrived from the U.S. Stripped cleaned and polished in excellent condition no pitting at all so no hot spots. The engine has been just sat in not bolted yet. The wiring is being sized for the loom. The breather pipes have been install for the Keihin Carb and engine. I have also heat shrinked the loom in blue then covered it with a blue braided cable cover to finish it.</p>

<p><small>Update &#8211; 28/10/2010</small> </p>
<p>Rear swingarm installed with pivot and shocker. Thinking of mounting the res to the side on the frame as I have installed an adjustable pivot link, can give it a low ride for the road. The air filter is nuts, massive I know but the only blue one that I could find to fit the large intake on the carb. Again everything polished, swingarms looking great.</p>

<h2><strong>Stage 7: Front End</strong></h2>
<p><small>Update &#8211; 31/10/2010</small> </p>
<p>Started on the front end. Removed the brake set-up and replaced it with steel braided from a 660 Raptor including the front master. The dome nuts arrived and installed, an excellent finish to it.  The engine is now torqued down. The rear DG grab bar is now on with the DG Silencer fitted. I ordered a front pipe today, hopefully here with in a week.</p>
<p>The front end is mocked up just now but looks fantastic with the white on blue, alu brake pipe clamps to be added. The mock up wont be for long as soon as the the pipe arrives we&#8217;ll get her started, then its off to the garage. The LT250R wont fit through shugs entrance to the shed so the arms and axle will be installed at the garage.</p>

<h2>Stage 8: Controls &amp; Fuel</h2>
<p>Into December now and there has been a few set backs. Firstly the axle carrier was useless the brake brace was seized meaning the brake caliper would not adjust back and forth. Only thing I could do was buy a replacement. An OEM axle carrier is stupid money for what you get and decided to go for a custom made SRP Dual Row Bearing Carrier, here&#8217;s a pciture.</p>

<p>The carrier will be installed this weekend as long as it stops snowing. The 2nd set back was our garage being broke into and my road legal quad got nicked. Managed to recover her yesterday big thanks to Marty G. Bit of a mess just had a call insurance are coming this week to take it away, looking like a right off.</p>

<p>Well back to the build. Added a cut-off lanyard and a twist throttle works a treat. SO we decided to add fuel and get her started. What a sound sweet as a pin classic 2 stroke ying ying ying ying. The tank is now on and all the controls are set-up. Front brakes now complete new pads and bled now the front end is completed. The back end is basically done apart from the axle carrier which will take 30 mins to install.</p>

<p>These 2 stroke quads are excellent fun and go like sh!t of a hot shovel, point and gun it.</p>
<p>This one is a a full rebuild. The gearbox had to be replaced completely and I had to buy a cylinder, Wiseco piston and head from America as I only had the bottom end and a duff gearbox inside. Full seal and bearing replacement plus gaskets. Not to mention all the other new parts bought to bring her back to life.</p>
<p>The frame is now back from the powder coaters and looking amazing, PJ done a grand job on it, highly recommended and very reasonable prices too.</p>
<p>The engine is almost complete apart from a reverse thread bolt the holds the water pump impeller to the shaft. Have one order from CMSNL so be here by next week. For now its time to focus on the frame and brakes.</p>

<p>This time I&#8217;ve managed to get my hands on a <strong>1975 Suzuki GT250m</strong> with <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_GT_series">RAM AIR System</a>, twin cylinder, 2 stroke<br />

<h2><strong>Stage 1: Analysis</strong></h2>
<p><small>Aug &#8211; Sept 2010</small></p>
<p>I bought the bike at the end of Aug 2010, in the purchase I got a lot of spare parts, some that would be fix-able or usable and some that wouldn&#8217;t, When I got the bike to the shed I had a right good look over it, when I removed the head and barrels it all looked well, it had been re-sleeved and rebored at some point, and new pistons had been fitted, although one of the pistons the rings were stuck, I had the engine running before stripping it and it was quite smokey, so I opted to split the cases and check the crank seals, the outer bearing on the clutch side had collapsed!!, I managed to source a good 2nd hand bottom end and rebuilt the engine using good parts from both engines, but still retaining the original case with the all important engine number&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Stage 2: Strip Down</strong></h2>

<p>The entire bike is currently stripped, going to get power coated, all other items have been catalogued and recorded, I&#8217;ve managed to source lots of spare parts for the bike from the likes of ebay and scrapyards,</p>

<h2><strong>Stage 3: Powder Coating</strong></h2>

<h2><strong></strong><strong>Stage 4: First start up video!</strong></h2>
<p style="text-align: left;">I have finished the engine, mounted it in the frame, set the timing, balanced the carbs, primed the 2 stroke system, and fired her up, sounds sweeeeet.</p>

<h2><strong>Stage 5: Rebuild time!</strong></h2>
<p>Ive been busy lately, I bought another bike for spares, not sure of the model, but loads of useful spares, I have used the rear mudguard, front mudguard, front wheel rim, and there will e other bits and bobs I can use. The front wheel has been rebuilt using new spokes and the rim from the donor bike, I have cleaned the forks and fitted new seals, I have loads of wee jobs still to do. here&#8217;s some more pics taken tonight. <h2><strong></strong><strong>Stage 6: Just about finished!</strong></h2>
<p>Thats it nearly finnished, all thats left to do now is fit brake pads to the front, bleed the brake and buy and fit reflectors and a few decals.</p>

dash effort! The bike starts first kick and runs sweet as a nut,,<br />
it will still need run in, its like a brand new engine now.<br />

<p>A very tidy &amp; rapid bike for being 21 years old! because the bikes a 1989, it can be used for evo class racing.<br />
I have a box full of recipts for all the work I&#8217;ve done and parts bought. I&#8217;ve spent a fortune on this bike as I was planning to keep it but the missus is now taking lessons and we need a new car!</p>
