Shred Convention!

If you live in the Massachusetts area or aren’t that far away and want to come meet me Eric and learn about Shred and how it was developed over the course of 5 months then you should sign up and make the trip to come to the event. To register and check out the schedule for the day click here. There already is over 500 people registered so it will be a fun day to check out some of the new designs first hand.

The event will be at the mass mutual center in Springfield Massachusetts. Starts around 8ish in the morning and goes til early afternoon. I will be doing a talk about shred for about 40 minutes or so at the end of the day.

I hope some of you can make the trip out and I can meet you first hand.

Best Halloween ever

I’m a huge fan of it’s always sunny in Philadelphia so my roommates and I were all characters from the show. I was night man and we had a day man and a green man. There were a lot of people taking pictures of us out at the bars but sadly our pictures kind of sucked. Having a good time and drinking is not conducive to good picture taking.

Seeing last weeks episode made me think how awesome it would be to get a birds of war costume with a few days notice. That would have been true dedication.

My Trip To Umass Amherst

Eric here, I had the pleasure of going to one of the largest colleges in the North East and speak about Shred to an entrepreneurship class of a hundred students. This is the second time I have had the privilege to speak at Umass and it’s always a great group of motivated young individuals trying to change the world with the next big idea. The best part about public speaking is the reaction you get from students. At the end when there is a line all the way across the room of people waiting to introduce themselves and chat with you one on one for a minute to just get to know you a little better is such a great feeling that you have hopefully inspired them to move towards their goals and dreams to become that 1% to take the risk of entrepreneurship.
I received an email not a few days later from a student named Craig Roberts and it really was rewarding to know that I was able to inspire. This is what the email read:

“Hey Mr. Sullivan,

You recently spoke to my entrepreneur initiative class at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. We have had several speakers, but none caught my attention as much as you did. You realistically spoke about starting a company, other speakers talked about it in terms of having start-up money, but you were a college student and understood the financial burdens. Eric, you honestly made me believe that I do no need to wait until I graduate to start an online social network site or a fashion line. I can start right now.
We briefly spoke, I wanted to know more about how you got started because I think your ability to have the discipline to start your own online network and a clothing line while working towards a college degree.”

Shred has been such a fun project for Jon and I to not only create something we absolutely love and stand behind but to be able to interact with some really awesome people and see their reactions to our crazy creations is what is always rewarding.

I put up the stock for the new shirts they will get here by early October. We are printing all the shirt in 2xl and xs in limited quantities so I would suggest ordering them sooner rather than later because there aren’t many. I also ordered more of the Iron Eddie shirt. I don’t have a big setup or anything just going there to check everything out and meet some cool people.

Conditions wearing SHRED

I’v been digging Conditions for a couple months now and I am really proud having them wear our shirts.

Coming from Richmond, Virginia, Conditions has already made a name for themselves. They have been named one of Purevolume.com’s Top 21 Unsigned Bands along with toured with New Found Glory and Paramore in 2008. They will even be playing a handful of dates on the 2009 Vans Warped Tour.

Shred: When and how did Conditions get started?
Brandon: Conditions got started about two years this past February. We started by basically, when Jason the guitar player and Josh the bass player at the time, wanted to start a band and they asked me to join.

Shred: Is there any story behind the name? If so what?
Brandon: Yeah totally. It came from a quote we came across that was pretty cool saying “the essential conditions of life left the choice of passion and love.” We all collectively agreed with that.

Shred: When did you start playing? Have you ever changed instruments?
Brandon: I have never done anything besides singing in a band. But, I played guitar and dabbled with drums and bass. But I started singing in High School when my friends wanted to start a band. One night Jason, me and Jason have been together forever, he was starting a band and out of the blue he asked me if I could sing. I never hearing this before honestly never opening my mouth musically ever said “Yeah I can totally sing”. Went to practice, tried out and what came out came out and the rest is history I guess.

Shred: While there are thousands of bands out there, what do you feel makes Conditions stand out from the rest?
Brandon: At this day and age what makes conditions stand out is that we are making music with a message. As much as we do like that music that can take your mind off of everything and you know, just good time music. We strive for something different. We strive to actually have a message. To have a deeper connection with people. We have very valid points and lots of emotion in what we play and what I talk about when I sing.

Shred: What was it like touring with Paramore and New Found Glory last year?
Brandon: Oh my gosh are you kidding me? I still think that was a dream it was just ridiculous. Flying and landing in Manchester was cool to begin with because I’ve never been to the UK before. The next night having to go on stage and the curtain rising and seeing five thousand kids out there and asking yourself “Are you serious? I have to go through with this?” Paramore are really good people and they’ve become really good friends. But yeah it was just ridiculous. As you can tell I’m still baffled by it.

Shred: You guys are currently not signed to a label, which is surprising. Any reason behind this? Do you have any plans to sign to a label?
Brandon: Absolutely. The ultimate goal for Conditions is to sign to a label. We haven’t thus far because we are holding out for the perfect chance. The perfect label to come along. We are holding out for the best. We have had offers; we have talked to labels everything like that. But none of which have said what we are looking for yet. But that’s definitely the plan.

Shred: Many bands are taking to managing themselves and their career and finding success. You guys seem quite successful with the fact that you have been touring as a Top 21 Unsigned Band by Purevolume and also shooting a music video and touring with Paramore. Do you think this style of management is going to become more popular?
Brandon: Yeah I think so because in this day and age, its not really about record sales anymore. Its about the other things. Like who can play a live show? And merchandise everything like that. By really revolving around the shows. So I think huge bands like Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead are releasing their music online. I’m not saying we are up there with them at all. But I think they are embracing what the music industry is morphing into. I definitely think its possible to manage without the label. I think its completely doable. Its just a question of their funding.

Shred: For example, the band Underoath doesn’t care if you buy their album or download it online. They just care if you sing it back to them in the crowd.
Brandon:: Yeah absolutely. That’s exactly what I wholeheartedly believe. I would much rather play for two kids in a crowd for ten bucks then sell an album for the same amount of money.

Shred: Any future plans?
Brandon: We are def going to start touring a lot more. We are pretty much booked up for the next few months, which is cool. I can’t wait till we announce what we are doing. We are planning on recording. We have a lot more songs. We have a bunch of songs ready to record but we are just waiting for a gap to go record them. Lots of touring lots of writing.

Shred: Shred Clothing is currently sponsoring Conditions, how did this happen?
Brandon: We tour with a guy named Tyler who works for a clothing company named Ceerius. He knows Eric and he passed our music and information along and I guess Eric liked it. That’s how it happened. It was pretty cool. We are really happy to be associated with Shred.

Shred: What made you guys want to accept a sponsorship from Shred?
Brandon: Well we saw Shred’s designs and they were awesome.

Chico Bike Races 2009

I had the honor of attending this years Chico Bike Races. Since none of you have ever heard of it I will fill you in. There are 6 houses and at each house there is a team. Each team has a certain theme, my houses theme was Dorothy from Wizard of Oz (this is why I am wearing a dress and lipstick). At each house there is a a bunch of alcohol. Some houses have champagne, keg, mixed drinks, you never get the same thing twice. After we finish all the alcohol we ride our bikes to the next house riding through traffic lights making a ruckus.

The first house was champagne and mimosas. We got there a little early and I think I started off way to strong, especially since it was the Chico Bike Races. My friend Jeff decided to be Dorothy from the Golden girls and no one complained, he pulled it off.

If you think I looked weird with a dress you should have seen some of the other characters there. I forgot what Mike was dressing up as but he went all out and even wore high heels for the first 10 minutes.

Here I am stealing a comboy’s gun and having some fun.

The best thing about the Chico Bike Races is riding your bike from house to house while someone blocks all the traffic from you. It was 100 people in crazy costumes riding throught the streets. I wish I could have lasted longer but by the 4th house I was wasted and had to be taken home so I could pass out. Next year’s Chico Bike races will go better for me.

San Francisco Trip

I took a trip down to San Francisco to move a friend into their new apartment and sight see. I haven’t been there since I was a kid besides driving through it on my way down to Southern California so I was pretty excited. One thing I didn’t think of before we left on the San Francisco trip was all of the tolls we had to pay to go across the bridges. Luckily my friends had cash but I hear you have to pay a $30 ticket or something like that if you don’t have enough money.

We got there and I did some exploring. There were this really cool place behind my friend Leann’s apartment. I had to go through this little alley next to the apartments to get to this ladder.

There was a road up there leading to a big house that was on the top of the hill but nothing else exciting so I went back down. I ended up climbing across the edge of the balcony’s of my friends neighbors apartments, which I have to admit I got a little scared.

The next day after we moved everything into the new place we had some time to check out San Francisco. We went to the San Francisco zoo, which wasn’t that amazing. I really just felt bad for the animals being locked up and on display. They had one area of a bunch of birds that were tied up in this one area. The eagle kept on trying to fly away and could only get a couple feet out. Here are some highlights of the zoo.

The penguins were the awesome. Pretty much all of the other animals were sleeping but these guys were still swimming circles around thier exhibit.

Then I did what every tourist going on a San Francisco trip does, which is take a picture at the Golden Gate Bridge.

I was a little afraid that we went to far and would have to pay the Golden Gate Toll but luckily there was a turn off right before so you can park and check out the bridge.

We went to this one place called Cha Cha Cha which had really good snack foods and sangria. Anyone that is planning a San Francisco Trip should go here and try the sangria, it's delicious. Also they have peices of apples and other fruits in there that are like taking a shot. All of the alcohol soaks into them.

The San Francisco trip was really fun but now I gotta get back to work and try and think up some new ideas for new shirts and get some custom packaging together.
