Maritime e-marketplace and ship suppliers association further endorse…

Maritime e-marketplace and ship suppliers association further endorse each other’s offerings.

LONDON, UK, 19 October, 2009 – ShipServ, the leading maritime e-marketplace, has strengthened its partnership with The International Shipsuppliers & Services Association (ISSA), the international association representing nearly 2,000 ship suppliers worldwide.

Under the terms of the new agreement, signed at the ISSA54 Convention in Istanbul, ShipServ will work with ISSA on an ISSA “Zone” on ShipServ Pages, the online marine suppliers directory. ISSA members will also benefit from a special offer to join Pages.

Pages currently features over 30,000 suppliers offering anything from stores and provisions to life saving equipment to main engine spares to paint. The new agreement raises the profile of ISSA on Pages, highlighting its members to visitors.

“This cooperation represents an excellent opportunity for our members to reach, cost-effectively, new customers and trade efficiently,” commented Jens Olsen, ISSA President. “And as a progressive association it was important to us to have an influence in what added value services we are able to offer our members,” he said.

Maritime buyers use Pages to find suppliers for a wide range of uses, from locating new suppliers in unfamiliar ports to sourcing alternative suppliers for existing contracts. Trust is very often an issue in many transactions, especially when dealing with a new supplier. The ISSA Zone will exclusively feature those ISSA members signed up to Pages, giving prominence to a community of high quality, accredited maritime suppliers.

“Our community of buyers tells us that finding a new supplier is relatively easy but finding one you can trust is much harder,” said Paul Ostergaard, Founder & CEO, ShipServ. “With ISSA’s increased involvement with Pages, we can highlight those suppliers with ISSA accreditation, giving buyers greater peace of mind.”

Leading agent for nautical charts and publications expands agreement to include Singapore office.

OSLO, NORWAY, 11 June, 2009 – ShipServ, the leading maritime e-marketplace, today announced at Nor-Shipping 2009 that it had signed an expanded agreement with Nautisk Forlag, one of the world’s largest agents of nautical charts and publications.

Under the terms of the agreement Nautisk Forlag will integrate its Singapore office with ShipServ TradeNet, the e-commerce trading platform for operational supplies.

Nautisk Forlag has grown from being the largest Norwegian distributor of nautical charts and publications to one of the leading agents worldwide, serving companies from Singapore and China to the US and Europe. It is an official distributor for the hydrographical offices of the UK, US, Norway, Sweden and Denmark, and holds extensive stocks of all charts and publications necessary for ocean-going vessels, both in paper and electronic formats.

Nautisk Forlag have been a TradeNet customer since 2004, and have already integrated their Oslo operations into TradeNet. The addition of Singapore means Nautisk Forlag now covers the majority of its customer markets.

“We’re delighted to extend our relationship with such a valued customer as Nautisk Forlag,” commented Paul Ostergaard, Founder and CEO, ShipServ. “They are an excellent example of a progressive supplier looking to innovate their business through e-commerce.”

Over 130 top ship owners, managers and yards use TradeNet every day for their operational purchases for over 4,500 ships. Members benefit from reduced administrative overheads, better information to make smarter sourcing decisions, fewer off-hire days due to faster order cycle times, lower shipment costs and the ability to handle more ships without the need to hire more staff.

The agreement was signed at the ShipServ booth at Nor-Shipping by Jarle Baade, Managing Director of Nautisk Forlag (pictured, 2nd from left) and Freddy Ingemann, SVP Sales of ShipServ (pictured, 2nd from right). Also in attendance were Ane Sivertsen, Sales Director of ShipServ (pictured, far left) and Captain Tin Lay Kyi, General Manager of Nautisk Forlag (pictured, far right).

Leading maritime e-marketplace urges ship owners and managers…

Leading maritime e-marketplace urges ship owners and managers to vote ‘YES’ to saving money on operational supplies.

LONDON, UK, 4 June, 2009 – ShipServ, the leading maritime e-marketplace, today announced that it estimated that the European shipping industry is wasting up to €1.8bn each and every year due to inefficient sourcing and purchasing practices.

And in the week in which 375 million European citizens are poised to vote in the European Parliament elections, ShipServ is urging European ship managers to vote “YES” to saving money on their operational supplies.

ShipServ’s analysis was based on its experience working with thousands of ship management professionals around the world, helping them to reduce the cost of purchasing the services and supplies they need to keep their ships operational.

“Its frustrating to see such waste still going on especially as we know how quickly such waste can be eliminated”, commented Paul Ostergaard, Founder and CEO, ShipServ. “When the shipping market was growing at a rate of knots, watching your costs might not have been a priority. Now its almost criminal.”

A typical company using the ShipServ e-marketplace to assist in sourcing suppliers, issuing request for quotes and/or placing orders saves anywhere between 5% and 20% of its operational spend every year. Based on an estimate of annual operational supplies spend of €9.3bn by European managers, this equates to a maximum 20% potential savings (and therefore wastage) of €1.8bn.

These savings can come from many areas including reduced administrative overheads, better information to make smarter sourcing decisions, fewer off-hire days due to faster order cycle times, lower shipment costs and the ability to handle more ships without the need to hire more staff.

“Its time for change in the shipping industry. It’s the duty of every ship manager to vote “YES” to saving money and to join ShipServ”, continued Mr. Ostergaard. “I’d go as far to says it’s their democratic duty!”
