"Lindsay is dropping the Lohan and just going by Lindsay," Dina Lohan told AOL celebrity news site Popeater.com on Friday.

The decision appears to be motivated by a desire to distance the "Mean Girls" actress from her estranged father Michael Lohan, who was charged earlier this week with assaulting his girlfriend and who has a history of run-ins with the law.

Dina Lohan told Popeater that she and her younger daughter Ali -- also an aspiring singer and actress -- are officially changing their last names to her maiden name, Sullivan.

Dina and Michael Lohan divorced in 2007 -- the year Lindsay was arrested for drunk driving and cocaine possession and starting a downward spiral of trips to rehab, failed drug tests and jail. Minister: PSSI's congress awaits FIFA's decision

Sports and Youth Minister Andi Malarangeng said congress of the Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) would be held after FIFA`s decision. He said here on Wednesday if FIFA as the world`s football governing body gave a positive signal then the congress could be carried out.

"We are still waiting for the decision of FIFA with regard to the PSSI congress," initially planned on April 29 in Surabaya, East Java, he said. If FIFA did not give a positive signal it was not impossible for a new congress to be held in connection with it, the minister said.

Regarding the government`s decision to suspend PSSI under the leadership of current general chairman Nurdi Halid, Andi said the decision was correct because the government did not want to make the wrangling in PSSI to drag on.

He denied that the decision was late because the government had already given warnings to PSSI board members so far but they had never been heeded.

"So our decision was correct and not late," he said. The minister hoped PSSI later would be led by new leaders with strong integrity. He said he was ready to meet the worst possible consequence with regard to his decision.

Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi meanwhile said here on Wednesday that no one would disturb the state assets managed by PSSI so far, following the government`s decision to suspend the football organization recently.

He said the government would consistently implement the decision and all activities and programs already scheduled by PSSI so far would be taken over by the Sports and Youth Ministry. "As it has become the decision of the government it must be implemented consistently," he said.

He said all the facilities and services given by the government to PSSI would be taken over by the sports ministry. "We will certainly facilitate for the continuation of all the PSSI programs according to recommendations from the sports ministry," he said.

All matches managed by PSSI so far such as Indonesia Super League (LSI) would be carried out by the sports ministry in coordination with the management of the Senayan Bung Karno stadium.

Obama calls Kan on nuclear crisis

US President Barack Obama spoke to Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan Tuesday and the leaders agreed to cooperate closely on a crisis over an earthquake-damaged nuclear plant, officials said.

The White House said Obama spoke to Kan as he flew back to Washington from New York on Air Force One, in their third conversation since an devastating earthquake and tsunami disaster struck Japan on March 11.

"The President reiterated that the United States is determined to support the people of Japan in their efforts to deal with the devastating effects of this tragedy, both in the short and the long term," a White House statement said.

"Prime Minister Kan thanked the President for the extensive US help in the response effort. The two leaders reaffirmed the importance of close US-Japanese cooperation in dealing with the ongoing nuclear emergency."

Japan said on Tuesday it was on "maximum alert" over the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant where plutonium has been found in the soil.

The earthquake and tsunami that ravaged Japan`s northeast coast and left about 28,000 dead or missing also knocked out reactor cooling systems at the installation, which has leaked radiation into the air and sea.

Georgia, U.S. to launch $100 mln bio laboratory

Georgia and the United States will inaugurate on Friday a $100 million biological research facility in the capital Tbilisi, the U.S. ambassador said, in an effort to combat the global spread of diseases and bioterrorism.

Tbilisi is one of the closest U.S. allies in the former Soviet Union, and Washington has aided the Southern Caucasus state to modernise its economy and infrastructure since pro-Western leader Mikheil Saakashvili came to power in 2004.

Georgia and neighbouring Armenia and Azerbaijan have had outbreaks of bird flu and swine flu in the past few years, although there have been no major epidemics in the region.

"What we are trying to do is to fill in some of the gaps around the world to give us a better global picture of the trends and ways in which diseases crop up and threaten," John Bass, the U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, told Reuters.

"It`s not an intention to conduct secret research here. This is not a facility designed to research on biological weapons of any sort or ... to provide cover for some other type of biological research," he said.

Construction of the high-tech lab, funded by the U.S. government, began in 2006 near Tbilisi`s international airport.

Georgian and American scientists will work on infectious disease detection, epidemiological surveillance and research, Bass said.

Asked if Russia, which fought a brief war with Georgia in August 2008 over the breakaway Abkhazia and South Ossetia regions, had voiced concern, he said that the partners had been "transparent with the Russian government" about the facility.

Bass said similar facilities were operating in the United States and some countries in Europe as well as in Kenya, Thailand and Egypt.

But "some sensitive research" would be conducted at the lab, which required a high level of security to be provided by the Georgian government, he said.

Asked whether the lab could become a target for terrorists, he said: "It will have good security in place ... We think that will ensure that it does not become a target.

Dependence on televisions, cellphones and laptops may be costing Americans dearly -- in lack of sleep.

The national penchant for watching television every evening before going to sleep, playing video games late into the night or checking emails and text messages before turning off the lights could be interfering with the nation`s sleep habits.

"Unfortunately, cell phones and computers, which make our lives more productive and enjoyable, may be abused to the point that they contribute to getting less sleep at night leaving millions of Americans functioning poorly the next day," Russell Rosenberg, the vice chairman of the Washington DC-based National Sleep Foundation (NSF), said in a statement.

Nearly 95 percent of people questioned in an NSF study said they used some type of electronics in the hour before going to bed, and about two-thirds admitted they do not get enough sleep during the week.

Charles Czeisler, of Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women`s Hospital in Boston, said exposure to artificial light before going to bed can increase alertness and suppress the release of melatonin, a sleep-promoting hormone.

"Technology has invaded the bedroom," Czeisler explained in an interview. "Invasion of such alerting technologies into the bedroom may contribute to the high proportion of respondents who reported they routinely get less sleep than they need."

Baby boomers, or people aged 46-64 years old, were the biggest offenders of watching television every night before going to sleep, while more than a third of 13-18 year-olds and 28 percent of young adults 19-29 year olds played video games before bedtime.

Sixty one percent also said they used their computer or laptop at least a few nights each week.

And a propensity to stay in touch means that even people who have managed to fall asleep, are being woken up by cellphones, texts and emails during the night.

"One in 10 kids report they are being awoken by texts after they have gone to bed. People don`t turn off their Blackberries," said Czeisler, adding that much of this is happening at the expense of sleep.

Generation Z`ers, 13-18 year olds, were the most sleep-deprived group, with 22 percent describing themselves as "sleepy," compared to only nine percent of baby boomers.

Sleep experts recommend that teenagers get 9 hours and 15 minutes of sleep a night but adolescents in the study were only averaging 7 hours and 26 minutes on weeknights.

"I am the most concerned about how little sleep 13-18 years are getting," said Czeisler. "Kids today are getting an hour and a half to two hours less sleep per night than they did a century ago. That means that they are losing about 50 hours of sleep per month," said Czeisler.

Americans` lack of sleep is negatively impacting their work, mood, family, driving habits, sex lives and health, according to the NSF.

All age groups are coping by consuming caffeinated drinks -- about three 12-ounce (354 ml) beverages per person -- per day, and taking naps, sometimes more than one during the day.

"Parents should get these technologies out of the bedrooms of kids if they want them to do well (in school)," said Czeisler.

Men must also be involved in cervical cancer prevention

Men also have to be involved in efforts to prevent the infection of women by the human papilloma virus (HPV) that causes cervical cancer, an international anti-cancer official said.

"Since this cancer is a sexual-viral related disease, both men and women have to get their vaccination and this is also our concern," Prof Sr Lex Peter, chairman of the International Female Cancel Program, said here Saturday.

Peter made the statement when accompanying Indonesian Health Minister Endang R Sedyaningsih on a visit to a Community Health Center (Puskesmas) in downtown Tabanan, around 27 kilometers north-west of Denpasar.

The visit was part of activities conducted by participants of a conference of the Asia-Oceania Research Organization on Genital Infections and Neoplasm being held in Nusa Dua.

At the Puskesmas the conference participants witnessed a demonstration of the application of the visual inspection by acetate acid (VIA) method to prevent cervical cancer.

Peters is also a gynecologist at Leiden University, the Netherlands. He also did some research on the progress of cancer cells in woman`s reproductive organs in the last decade.

"We know that vaccine is a cure for this cancer causing virus. But the effectiveness is only 70 percent so far. It means that there is still a 30 percent failure rate and this may have been caused by many things. One of them is the woman`s male partner," he said.

In other words, he said, "Even if a woman has been vaccinated, it doesn`t mean she is absolutely free from cervical cancer. Remember, there is a 30 percent failure rate," he said.

He admitted the challenges of persuading men to be vaccinated against HPV. In the Netherlands itself, he said, it was still not so easy thing to do.

Another challenge was the medicine`s price that was still high. "It`s still very expensive even for Europeans, about 100 US dollars per vial, so may be the producers should do something to lower it," he said.

Other thing that made eradicating HPV difficult was the fact that HPV does not need an animal host to multiply. HPV was a so-called "smart" virus capable mutating.

"HPV enters the human body through skin, particularly the soft tissue inside our body. It may change and affect many organs, from cervical cancer to malfunction of kidney or brain," he said.

Quake hits Southern West Java

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale rocked the southern part of West Java province on Sunday morning but there was no immediate report of casualties or material damage.

The epicenter of the quake which struck at 08.20 a.m. was in the sea 113 km southwest of West Java`s Sukabumi town at a depth of 10 km, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said in its official website.

The quake was not significant enough to trigger a tsunami, according to the agency.

"The quake was felt by people living in Sukabumi, Garut, Tasikmalaya, and Cianjur," Pepen Efendi, spokesman of the agency`s office in Bandung, capital of West Java province, said on Sunday.

He said the epicenter of Sunday`s quake was found in the meeting point of very active Indoaustronesia and Indoeuronesia plates which triggered a number of quakes in recent years.

"But the location is different from the epicenter of the quake which struck off the Tasikmalaya coast (a few years ago)," he said.

Sunday`s quake was the latest in a series of quakes to hit the southern part of West Java over the past few months. A powerful quake last hit southern West Java on September 9, 2009, causing considerable damage in a number of areas.

Indonesia sits on the so-called Pacific "ring of fire", a volcanologically active terrestrial chain where earthquakes and volcanic eruptions can happen any time.

Kadhafi`s hometown sirte bombed

Western forces carried out air and missile strikes on Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi`s hometown of Sirte on Saturday, the state-run news agency Jana said.

"Air bombardment and missile attacks have struck several civilian targets in Zuwarah, Tripoli, Sirte and Benghazi," in raids along the coast stretching from western to eastern Libya, an armed forces spokesman said, quoted by Jana.

Western powers on Saturday launched attacks from the air and sea against Kadhafi`s forces under a UN Security Council resolution to impose a ceasefire in a month-long showdown between loyalists and rebels.

Kadhafi was reputedly born in a Bedouin tent in Sirte, a Mediterranean city 360 kilometres (225 miles) east of Tripoli.

Japan dead, missing nears 20,000

The number of people confirmed dead or listed as missing in Japan neared 20,000 on Saturday, eight days after the massive earthquake and tsunami struck. But there were fears of a far higher death toll from the disaster that wiped out vast residential areas along the Pacific coast of northern Honshu island.

The national police agency said 7,653 people had been confirmed dead and 11,746 officially listed as missing -- a total of 19,399 -- as of 11:00 pm (1400 GMT) Saturday as a result of the March 11 catastrophe.

Hopes of finding many more survivors amid the rubble have diminished after a cold snap hit Japan`s northeast, covering much of the disaster area in snow earlier this week. The death toll has now well surpassed that of the 7.2-magnitude quake that struck the western Japanese port city of Kobe in 1995, killing 6,434 people.

The March 11 quake is now Japan`s deadliest natural disaster since the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake, which killed more than 142,000 people. The latest police figures for people missing do not include local reports from along the tsunami-hit coast of vast numbers of people unaccounted for.

The mayor of the coastal town of Ishinomaki in Miyagi prefecture said Wednesday that the number of missing there was likely to hit 10,000, Kyodo News reported. On Saturday, public broadcaster NHK said that around 10,000 people were unaccounted for in the port town of Minamisanriku in the same prefecture.

Corruption eradication strategy

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono chaired a limited cabinet meeting at his office on Monday afternoon to discuss corruption eradication strategy. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto said the government would renew the corruption eradication strategy with a long term formulation from 2010 to 2025.

"The nomenclature at present will become a national strategy of prevention and eradication of corruption which is to be institutionalized in all state institutions, especially for the 2010-2025 government," Djoko said.

Besides discussing the corruption eradication strategy, the follow-up of national humanitarian organization action plan, declared for 2004-2009 United Indonesia Cabinet would also be discussed. Present at the limited cabinet meeting were among others Justice and Human Rights Minister Patrialis Akbar, Attorney General Basrief Arief, Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro, Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi, and several other officials.

However, Bambang Soesatyo, a member of parliament from Golkar faction, said here Monday that the corruption eradication strategy was ineffective because corruption practices in the country remained rampant. "Corruption practices have even been on the rise, while the state has declared a war and mobilized its `war machine` called The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), he said.

In addition to the ineffective strategy, the government and law enforcers were inconsistent and tended to be selective in dealing with corruption cases by preferring to address relatively minor cases, he said. "The inconsistency was quite clear in several cases. For instance in the `cicak vs buaya` base, the government`s `gray ` stance` has caused the legal status of Bibit-Chandra (KPK commissioners) case has been unsettled for quite long," Bambang Soesatyo said.

He was of the opinion that the government was inconsistent in eradicating corruption by letting KPK being `paralyzed`. Another example of the inconsistency that he pointed out was the Century Bank case which has also been unsettled.
