A Godly Life of Integrity

Once, while ministering in an African country, my friend in that country arranged with a pastor who also ran a taxi business, for a taxi minibus to take all of us to a village about 30 miles from the city, and bring us back again in 3 days.

The Saturday morning, when the taxi arrived, it was a pick-up, not a minibus, as had been arranged. Immediately, I sensed a righteous indignation rise up within me. I wasn't feeling happy in my spirit. There was violation of this man's word and promise to us.

Three days later,
he attended the last session of the pastors leadership conference I was teaching. Two hours after the conference was finished, we (myself, my friend who had accompanied me from South Africa, my friend from the African country, his wife, 3 children, 2 orphans, an elder from the local church and all our belongings) were supposed to travel back to the city so I could prepare, because I had to leave to fly back to South Africa the next day.

Two hours passed, no taxi. Four hours passed, no taxi. Six hours passed, taxi arrives. The sun is now setting. Driving these roads at night, is not such a good idea. We packed and left. I asked his driver why it had taken so long, he said the pastor had sent him on loads of errands that afternoon. A third of the way into the trip, on a mountain pass, we ran out of petrol.

I could not believe it! You can imagine my shock when I discovered that although I had paid this man a lot of money to transport us, he had been totally dishonest and devious in his dealings with us. I was so angry with the fact that a man, a spiritual leader, a brother in the Lord, could have such a lack of integrity.

Proverbs 11. 3

The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.

Integrity is when your daily habits agree with your values, and with your words.

As spiritual leaders in God's Kingdom, we need to have the values of God's kingdom. As members of the Church of Jesus Christ, we need to have and live the values of the Kingdom of God.

But we can have these values – believe them and confess them - but if we do not live them as a daily habit, we are duplicitous.

Duplicitous means we are deceptive, fraudulent, and dishonest.

When you can keep your word, and live your values honestly,

then you build trust into your relationships,

you build confidence and self worth into your leadership,

you are faithful under temptation,

you only think of the good of others,

you have no desire to deceive, take advantage of, manipulate, or control,

you are matching your behaviour with your values,

you are keeping your promise and commitment, to your own hurt,

then you are living in integrity.

The word says when we do, then the Lord will guide us - in other words, as leaders you will experience strength to lead and govern, true power without deception and control, having a real shepherds heart.

But the Word of God also says the opposite result is Unfaithfulness - Because you have a duplicitous heart and life.

Sometimes the culture of the organisation or environment we find ourselves in has a lack of integrity. But that gives us no excuse for not living a life of integrity. We need to seek God for a change of heart, repent of our sin, and begin to be sons of the Kingdom, by living what we say and believe.

I should mention this is not only for leaders, but for every member of the Body of Christ.

If you say you going to do it, do it.

Do not be unfaithful.

In this day and age, when the church of Jesus Christ is being attacked, undermined, and discredited in every form and fashion, we need leaders and THE Church, to stand for what is right, live uprightly, being people of integrity and faithfulness.

Look at Proverbs 10:9

The man of integrity walks securely, but who he takes crooked paths will be found out.

Securely: Has safety and has a refuge.

But the deceiver, the hypocrite, the man of duplicity, will show himself to be who he is (will be found out) – unfaithful.

As a person of integrity, you will always find an inner peace and confidence, a security that comes from the Lord because you live, behave and speak the values of your heart.

David shepherded the people with integrity.

Job refused to give up his integrity, even though he was tempted, tried and tested beyond comprehension.

Nehemiah appointed leaders because of their integrity.

1 Kings 9:4 ; Neh 7:2; Job 27:5

Needless to say, concerning the pastor who dealt so deviously with us, I doubt his agenda and motive in ministry, his word, and I will be hard pressed to trust this man in hurry again.

Be trustworthy and build a Godly life of integrity.

Do You Know Your Expected End?

Over the years as a pastor of a local church, workshop presenter and leadership mentor, I found the top 2 difficulties individuals deal with are

“What is my purpose?”

“How do I take the stress out of my relationship?”

My findings from a survey I did 2 years back was that the top struggle people had,was with frustration, and then a close follower to that finance.

It has become evident to me that, without a sense of mission and purpose, a person can find themselves very frustrated and in lack.

Why?

Frustration is the result of not having immediate or life expectations being met. Many, many live, work and lead, frustrated. Often, careers have been imposed on them through necessity, or by dominant factors, leaving people without a choice and then the daily grind of trying to function at maximum expected peak performance while being unhappy, discontent and, most of the time, in despair.

When you are not following, investing in, and communicating your life’s or leadership purpose,
you are having to chase the ‘not enough’, the ‘just enough’, or the ‘get enough’ so that you will have the status and significance you need to ease the pain of the deep, unhappy discontent you sense you have within you, because you cannot, and don’t know what is your life and leadership mission and purpose.

Probably like you, I have read many books and articles and heard many talks on needing a mission and purpose for life, but few give an encouraging process for discovering and clarifying such a mission or purpose for your life.

It is easy, but not simple.

Knowing, understanding and unfolding your purpose in life and thereby, releasing your passion that fuels your inspiration, resulting in a fulfilling influence in your relational and functional environment, is within everybody’s power and reach.

The fact is, you do have a mission, and a purpose in this world and you can contentedly live it, every day. But it does take some effort, involving time, and close scrutiny of your life and leadership, to discover and clarify that unique place you have, that only you were designed to fill.

Did you know that on average there is a monthly search for “what is my purpose?” in the region of 275000 times on Google?

Doesn’t that just tell you something?

I call the process Personal Leadership Strategic Planning.

The power of the Personal Leadership Strategic Planning process, is the process of strategically planning your personal leadership, not in the plan in itself.

Having a strategic plan for your life and leadership is powerful and contributes immensely toward making accurate and defining tactical decisions and choices for your leadership and life on a daily basis.

But the process of evaluating and assessing your life and leadership, so you discover what your Personal Strategic Leadership Plan is, is invaluable in clarifying your life’s mission and purpose.

Can a person actually know what it is and how to apply and live it?

Absolutely!

Why would you be given a mission and significant contribution to make in the earth if you cannot and will not know what it is?

A missionary once said to me as he noticed me day dreaming about my calling and purpose in life: ‘Shaun, God is not so cruel as to give you a purpose and not fulfil it in your life.’

But, I do believe the initiative is ours, to search it out, and plan it out, and begin to walk it out.

The Bible says:

‘For I know the plans that I have for you’, declares the Lord, ’plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.’

Many people I know quote this, but few know the plans…

God has plans for nations, for organisations and for individuals.

Leaders who know and live their personal mission and purpose, they don’t just fulfil a task or do a job, but lead with integrity, passion and influence, causing their team or environment to continuously improve and attain a much higher quality of performance. They will be highly relational because they are confident and aware. They will be focused and motivated knowing and living their motives, and knowing where their priorities are.

As a Life and Leadership Mentor I have been assisting many leaders, professionals, pastors and people looking at career change, to build a strategic journey that will take them to an expected end, a determined destiny, a created future.

Just like Joseph had a dream but also needed a strategy for its implementation, so we too need to seek the Lord for our 'expected end' and seek |Him for the strategy on how we should journey to see this plan lived out and applied every day. You may be very dissatisfied with your current place in life or in your career and the path you are following and been taking, but if you do not begin to lay out a strategic plan for change, change will never occur.

We are nearly half way through the year, is this going to be another year that ends just as it began for you? Or could you begin to take action today that would change the outcome of this year, this season, and enable you to begin o live toward the 'expected end' God has for you.

The Ministry Of Camping

Last weekend a bunch of men came up from the Highway Church in Cornwall and went camping with me in the woods outside Maidstone. Besides the torrential downpour we experienced all day Friday and night, the weekend was a wonderful time of building relationships and eating. Did I mention we were eating?

The focus was on sonship in the house and some younger leaders came over to be part of the event and assist with the smooth running of all the parts that make a good outdoor event. Ok, so I'm not as prepared as I would like to be. I;m just a stickler for having thing organised and done properly. But the whole team superb and made the best of what we had and everyone had a super time.

There is something about men sitting around a fire and eating, fellowshipping, and being instructed in the principles of God's Kingdom. hearts were stirred to align with the Fathers will to be sons in the house rather than just slaves. We also had a clarifying discussion on husband and wife relationships that work. I will be doing some of this soon on audio for you.

Once we catch the vision of what it means to walk in sonship, we understand what it means to have real, true purpose, and the struggle ends for significance and acceptance. Rather there is a sense of 'family' that gives us a place of secure freedom and love and acknowledgement we can never find as a slave in the house.

These times of impartation and challenge stir men (and women) to live at a new level and set a new standard for their spiritual walk and ministry.
