If you were unable to attend the training we hosted on 10/20 with Mindy Jamison of the Friendship Baptist Center in Des Moines. Mindy shared with us out of a decade of experience working with urban poor. This training was helpful in helping us learn more about poverty culture and how we can better serve those impacted by poverty.

Darin Wogen and Rich Thomson

Two of our volunteers, Rich Thomson who mentors youth at the Polk County Juvenile Detention Center, and Darin Wogen who mentors in Pella were selected to receive the 2009 Governor’s Volunteer Award. The presentation ceremony was held on Monday, July 27, 2009 at Southeast Polk High School.

They were presented their award by Mari Culver, First Lady of Iowa:
