Woody & Paul release "Heroes and Zeroes" on Cool Buzz on April 15th

Cool Buzz is proud to announce to release the new Wood & Paul album. This is the first time both parties will work together so they're really thrilled. This will be the fourth Woody & Paul studioalbum which carries the name Heroes and Zeros and will see the light on 15th of April 2011 in Eindhoven's Effenaar.

Heroes and Zeros contains eleven "Modern Protestsongs" inspired on the sound of the 60's Nuggets, 50's Rock 'n Roll and 90's Industrial.The first single is titled The Joker, Baby.Woody & Paul is a musical foursome with an abroad range of musical styles. It's a voyage past folk, blues to roots and garage, but overall quality stands in the middle. Good songs are the main ingredient for Woody & Paul as they keep on building a notorious live reputation.

C.W. Stoneking & His Primitive Horn Orchestra in Germany and Swiss

When Seasick Steve introduced C.W. Stoneking to the stage at the BBC 4’s Folk America festival in London last year he said how he was turned onto him by Charlie Gillett and laughed as he told the audience: “This boy’s lost in the 1920s and 30s. He’s not kind of, he really lost”. What followed was a prime lesson in how to steal a show as CW, along with his band The Primitive Horn Orchestra, proceeded to swing their way through a set of what he calls blues, hokum and jungle music that led the Observer to proclaim “hearing Stoneking perform live is, somehow, like listening to an old 78 recovered from a dusty attic in New Orleans”.

After his successful tour in September last year he just kicked off a new European tour. We're happy to have booked the German/Swiss leg of the tour:

As Woody & Paul stated on their facebook page they've just signed a record deal! Hopefully we can tell you more details about this very soon. But there is more: tomorrow (on February 16th) they will perform in Tivoli Oudegracht supporting Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan. Also recently Woody & Paul were guests at Jan Douwe Kroeske's legendary Twee Meter Sessies. A special edition because the theme was Trueblood; the HBO series that can be followed on Foxlife from now on.

Bob Wayne releases record in Berlin

On Monday 24th of January Bob Wayne & The Oulaw Carnies' new album comes out on People Like You Records and they will be playing live at the Bassy Cowboy Club in Berlin.

Doing his best to abide by the traditions of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Hank Williams Sr. and Jr., the forerunners of his friend (and patron-of-sorts) Hank III, BOB WAYNE adds his own spin to the echoes of the past as well. He walks, talks and breathes the road warrior lifestyle.

His European Debut on People Like You Records, Outlaw Carnie also boasts an impressive list of buddies and session players, including Nashville-based upright bass player David Roe (who played with Johnny Cash for many years), fiddle player Billy Contreras (who has played fiddle for George Jones) and Bob's old friends Andy Gibson (who plays with Hank III) and Donnie Harran (Bob Dylan, BR549). Bob states, "Donnie and Andy have been on all of my CDs, they’re amazing musicians”.

The Beat shows at Paard, Fenix and P60

The Beat, also known as The English Beat, are back in Holland. Last year the band made the party at Rainbowpark, Dordrecht. This time you can party with them at Paard van Troje in Den Haag on January 20th, Fenix in Sittard on January 21th and P60 in Amstelveen on Januray 22th.

The Beat was started in 1978 and became one of the groundbreaking Ska bands. A great influence for a lot of bands to come. Unity and respect is their message, their sound is Ska with influences of punk, reggae, soul and pop. After breaking up in 1983, two of the original members, Ranking Roger and Everett Morton brought a new band together to get The Beat back to life in 2009.

The Beat is now Alive and Kicking, so party with them if you can!

The Apers on tour through USA and Canada with The Queers

On January 13th The Apers start off with a 25-dates tour throughout the East Coast of the USA and Canada. From Florida to Toronto and back to Atlanta these Rotterdam punkrockers play as fixed support for the legendary punkrock band The Queers.

By the way, The Apers celebrate their 15th anniversary and couldn't have wished for a better present than this tour. Asian Man Records' labelmates The Queers asked the band in the end of 2010 to join them.

Unfortunately guitarist Kelvin C. can't join due to work obligations. Mark "Sharkee" van der Male of the Real Danger is the worthy replacement.

Vocalist Kevin Aper will keep a tourjournal for the website www.punx.nl.

On February 7th the band will return on Schiphol airport, so make sure the paint on the banners is dry! In April The Apers will do some shows in Holland again. Until then enjoy the new videoclip for "Whatever It Takes":

White Cowbell Oklahoma & Two Cow Garage on tour.

The people who read our monthly newsletter do already know it. We got White Cowbell Oklahoma to come to the Benelux! Don’t know them? Think of 70’s inspired lean mean rock’n’roll which they live combine with playing the cowbell with a grinder and some other tricks with a chainsaw. And wearing a cowboy hat ofcourse! Got the picture?

In the spring of 2011 WCO’s new live album will be released in Europe, followed by a tour of the guys. Sedate Bookings will handle the Benelux part of this tour. From May 9^th to May 16^th the band is available for festival- and club shows.

Two Cow Garage has last been seen on European soil in 2008. Time to bring them back! In October the band released their fifth album ‘Sweet Saint Me’, on which you can hear TCG has evolved from a humble alt country band to a more full on rockband with alt country influences. But you will still find their acoustic sound on some songs.

On the last moment Speedfest has made some changes in the line-up. Bob Wayne will be playing too. So now we've got The Seatsniffers, The .357 Stringband and Bob Wayne rocking the stage at Speedfest.

The .357 Stringband about to start Euro tour

Anything but derivative, The .357 String Band pays homage to both the dark roots of Americana - the fatalistic murder ballads, sneering Outlaw Country and unforgiving Gospel - as well as their own background coming of age in Milwaukee’s Punk and Rockabilly scenes. The result is a faster, meaner folk music - something the band calls “Streetgrass.”

Forgoing drums and using only stringed instruments (and the occasional megaphone), The .357 String Band plays with all the fire and fury of Rock & Roll; with an often surprising musical and lyrical refinement. Replete with mythology and mysticism, religious imagery and Biblical reference, The .357 String Band’s music ultimately engages with life here on Earth - the struggle of human beings to reconcile conflicting impulses and emotions is at the core of their music. With lyrics that can be as dark as the human soul at its worst, the music can’t be called negative - rather, it serves as a grim-yet-hopeful reminder that only by fully embracing the demons inside each of us can we exorcise them.

The next few weeks The .357 Stringband will ascend the stage in Holland, Belgium and Germany with highlighting the Speedfest in Eindhoven, N9 in Eeklo, Paradiso in Amsterdam, Tivoli in Utrecht, Vera in Groningen and the Real Music Club in Lauchhammer.

The Urban Voodoo Machine to tour Europe!

This London collective of shadowy never do wells, led by Norwegian born Paul-Ronney Angel feature between 7 to 12 musicians playing guitars, drums, fiddle, trumpet, banjo, washboard, upright bass, gong, mandolin, accordion, harmonicas, saxophone, tuba, sousaphone and even empty bottles & tie racks to build their unique brand of Bourbon Soaked Gypsy Blues Bop ’n’ Stroll! This is The Urban Voodoo Machine!

With their lurching sea shanties, debauched murder ballads, messed-up tangos and whiskey-soaked gypsy stomps, some reckon they’re from the same stable of stallions as Tom Waits and Nick Cave; others point out the last gang in town swagger of The Clash and the hellbound blues that John Lee Hooker first dragged out of the swamp.

On November 1st their debut album ‘Bourbon Soaked Gypsy Blues Bop’N’Stroll’ was released on Gypsy Hotel Records to great acclaim. The album scored top reviews in all the major music magazines and made ‘Albums of the Year’ lists in Classic Rock magazine and Big Cheese magazine. This was backed with lots of live shows and touring including headling East London’s prestigious and beautiful Hackney Empire and joining the legendary New York Dolls on their UK tour.

Youth Brigade in Holland next week!

Youth Brigade have announced a trip to Europe set to kick off in November and feature shows in The Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Switzerland. Along with the shows, the band will be bringing their film Let Them Know: The Story Of Youth Brigade and BYO Records.

This documentary will be shown at the three Dutch shows.

C. Gibbs and Hillstomp added to the Sedate Bookings roster

When you grow older, the music you prefer grow with you. C. Gibbs is a perfect example for the theory. Started playing in new wave band Modern English, moving to industrial pioneers Foetus, and again to his own rock trio The Morning Glories.

Now C. Gibbs found his way to the folk and country, resulting in his solo project going on for a few years now. Recently he released his 6^th full length called “Medicine Bag” on which you can hear Gibbs has a long past in music. A spherical album which is based in folk, country and rock. On the album you can also hear guests like Russel Simmins (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) and Kristin Mueller (Lucinda Black Bear). Listen to “Medicine Bag” on Spotify (C. If you say you you´ve heard enough guitar/drum combo´s, I tell you; “No you don´t”! Hillstomp is one of those combo´s that you want to hear! Guitar and banjo combined with bucket and can drums. Northern Mississippi trance blues with some bluegrass and a good rock´n´ roll feel.

After their live album “After Two But Before Five” from 2007, it was time for a new studio album. “Darker The Night” is what they made, an assembly of originals, traditionals and revamped blues classics. Wheels On Fire European Tour 2010

Almost 2 years ago Wheels On Fire amazed us with “Get Famous”, one of the better garagerock albums of 2009. Now their back, and man, it was worth waiting! The new album is called “Liar, Liar” and is more sixties garagepop then the previous one, but it’s GOOD! We know, and the people in Groningen (city in the high north in The Netherlands) know. Came in at 1^st place on Vera’s ‘Trash That Beats’ list, Elpee record store twitters “Our favourite record of the year so far” and sells out their first stash of records and cd’s almost immediately. We’re telling you man, we’re not lying…

But in the end, we are not selling records. So next to the new album, there is a European tour for Wheels On Fire. Starting this Friday October 1^st at Kortrijk (BE), taking them to Germany (Dresden, Berlin, Frankfurt am Mainz, Hamburg and more), Switserland (Winterthur, Rorschach) and Italy (Villadossola, La Spezia, Salsomaggiore, Milano) and back to the Benelux (Groningen, Haarlem, Venlo, Liege). Stardumb Records 10 years!

It's been almost 10 years since Starbumb Records saw it's first daylight. And in the good tradition of the Rotterdam poppunk/punkrock label, it's time to party! And ofcourse, everybody parties with them. On October 15th and 16th a lot of the Stardumb bands will perform on the Stardumb Rumble.

Everybody who knows Sedate Bookings knows we got a huge shared tasted on music and bands with Stardumb. No big news when we tell you there are some of Sedate bands showing up at the Rumble. Accelerators and Dead Elvis & His One Man Grave can be found on the bill, next to many others like Zatopeks, Kepi Ghoulie and The Madd.

Next to the Stardumb Rumble, the 50th release on the label will be a special Double LP with CD containing a lot of Stardumb related bands. 28 New songs and covers by The Manges, Accelerators, The Apers, El Pino & The Volunteers, Peawees and many more!

What followed was a prime lesson in how to steal a show as CW, along with his band The Primitive Horn Orchestra, proceeded to swing their way through a set of what he calls blues, hokum and jungle music that led the Observer to proclaim "hearing Stoneking perform live is, somehow, like listening to an old 78 recovered from a dusty attic in New Orleans".

Born in the secluded town of Katherine, Australia to American parents (his father, the author - and occasional screenwriter for TV shows such as Mission Impossible - Billy Marshall Stoneking, emigrated in the 70s - "the bumper stickers said, 'America, love it or leave it'. So I left.") and then brought up in the Aboriginal community of Papunya (pop. 299) his love of the blues was nurtured in his teens and his skill as a writer and performer honed in some of the most God-forsaken bars of Australia's outback before travelling the country solo and then with the band The Blue Tits. His debut album King Hokum - released in 2006 - led to the kind of international acclaim that allowed him extensive tours of the USA and Europe and was followed in 2009 by the release of Jungle Blues.

Accelerators have some nice gigs coming up in the next few weeks. Upcoming Monday, June 28th, the guys are supporting the punkrock all-time favorites NOFX on their show at Melkweg, Amsterdam. The show is sold out for weeks now, but if you are lucky and have a ticket, this will probably be a big party! Be sure to be on time, Accelerators start at 8 p.m.

On Juli 4th the yearly new music festival Metropolis takes place in Rotterdam. Many cool bands found their way to fame in The Netherlands and elsewhere after playing this festival. This year Accelerators are also in invited to do a gig there, a huge honor! Other names on the bill are Baroness, Babylon Circus, The Mad Trist, Hausmagger, amongst others. A lot of good reasons to go there, we suppose…

Most recent Pentecost The Apers did shows in Italy after about half a year without any shows because of some voice problems. With newly gained energy these poppunk veterans are totally back!

Christopher William Stoneking - abbreviated as C.W. Stoneking - is an old soul in a young body. Pre-war blues, bluegrass, roots and jazz, as if the best man comes directly from a time machine. With his Primitive Horn Orchestra - complete with authentic instruments - he travels around the world to convince people with his historical message.

This Australian brings authentic blues and jazz from the 2o's and 30's, which he combines with hillbilly, country and Caribbean music. Raw, pure and delicious! The Bamboo Kids are doing Benelux and Spain!

Brooklyn’s most notorious garage rockers, The Bamboo Kids, will tour throughout The Netherlands, Belgium and Spain from April 28 through May 8, including a stop at the Queensday Festival with The Bouncing Souls and Banner Pilot.

The Bamboo Kids recently released a new EP "The Way Things Are" on Drug Front Records. You can get the new single "Daylight Be Damned" for free at the website: www.drugfrontrecords.com.

It seems as if our little Bamboo Kids have grown up a bit. Sure this NYC trio are still have bits of The Clash, The Damned and The Heartbreakers in their sound, but they've definitely evolved. The songs and their visions are clearer than ever - they take the listener on a way more personal ride. Maybe it's because Bush is finally out of office and a bit of politically charged anger has subsided. Either way, these guys are at the very top of their game and they're not afraid to show their New Jersey roots. The addition of expertly played keys and horns (a la The Boss) don't hurt at all.

Queensday Festival 10 Year Anniversary

Queensday Festival is coming up soon. A celebration of the Dutch Queen’s birthday in punkrock and garage style, but this year it’s also the 10 year anniversary of the festival itself. Good reason to do it bigger and better, with bands like Bouncing Souls, Banner Pilot and Dead Elvis & His One Man Grave.

The festival’s first edition was in 2001 in a small café in the city of Venlo, but when years past, the festival grew to a festival with over 800 visitors from all over Western Europe. In these years a lot of great legendary and less legendary names where on the posters like The Bellrays, .357 String Band, Nine Pound Hammer, The Drones, Nikki Corvette & The Stingrays, Dirty Sweet and so on. Bands there where at that time not always that well-known, but got bigger in the years to come.

This year hundreds of punks, garagerockers and rock’n’rollers from all over are expected to show up to see over 20 bands from all over the world. Three stages inside and outside the building of popcentre Perron 55 in Venlo is the place to party at this extra big lustrum edition of Queensday Festival on Friday 30^th of April. The .357 Stringband are touring Europe as we speak. Today they will be in Lübeck playing the Treibsand club and tommorrow they'll return to Copenhagen to rock out at Global. Easter-Sunday they will be in Holland again staging the Jack Daniels Stage at Paaspop Schijndel. Go check them out, their first shows in Holland on this tour were great.
