HEAR YE! HEAR YE!

CARDS! CARDS! CARDS!

Hi there ... Tracy here ... hope you are all well and almost over the envy of not being able to attend CHA (for those of you who did ... LUCKY LUCKY YOU ... WOW!!! Wish I was there ...). I am kind of winding down here in South Africa - tired of Winter ... but loving these awesome sunny, Wintery days here in Durban ... sigh ... I even got sun-burnt a couple of times watching Bryce play Rugby ... (I know, naughty - didn't think the sun was strong enough - it IS Winter after all ....) .... The FIFA World Cup was awesome ... exhausting but such an awesome VIBE here in South Africa - I felt proudly South African - the kids are back at school (YAY and NAY - homework, laziness, etc ...) ...

Anyway, I thought I would give you a quick and easy Challenge this month ... CREATE FIVE (5) CARDS and win a little "card-making" RAK from me ... The rules are simple (I know, rules, schmules .... ) - All 5 cards must be newly created for this Challenge and ONE (1) must be lifted from one of my cards below. Hi Scrap{a}tale fans!!!

I am so excited to be hosting again this month, it's always such a treat to spend time "in the castle" with you all!! This month is a sketch challenge {you know how much I love sketches}.

I created this cute layout below of my nephew Jarred with photo's from his 2nd birthday party last year.

I just love those cute little cheeks so I couldn't resist creating a layout.

I created this sketch for you using the layout above as a guide. You can really put the journaling anywhere you want on this layout so long as it fits in with the overall look and feel. I used little notes to attach them to the sides of the layout as you can see above.

I used the latest Imaginisce To Love and Cherish collection with c'oredinations cardstock (which is awesome when you sand it to reveal the core colour ...) and I rotated the sketch 90 degrees to the left - such a fun sketch - thanks, Queen Amanda - love that you are designing your own sketches ....

So get scrapping and see what you come up with for this months sketch, can't wait to see what you come up with !!!

And without further ado here is Kim's step-by-step tutorial and her challenge for June!!!

Materials:
Cardstock: Bazzill and American Crafts
Patterned paper: SEI, Cosmo Cricket, Basic Grey
Embellishments: Chipboard word by 7 Gypsies, Labels by Chatterbox, Pearls by Kaiser Craft and Jenni Bowlin, Stickers by Jenni Bowlin, Butterflies cut from a Cavallini & Co folder, Mist by Maya Road and Tattered Angels, twine.

Instructions:
1. Start with a base of cream cardstock and attach diecut brown cardstock onto it.

2. Cut a piece of cream patterned paper 9x8 inches and attach in lower right corner of layout (9 inches along the horizontal edge).

3. Spray background with mists.

4. Cut a piece of green pattern paper 8x3 inches and attach towards the bottom of the cream paper.

5. Punch decorative edge along brown pattern paper, cut to 3 inches wide and attach to right side of layout, ensuring that you can still see the cream and green patterned papers along the right edge.

6. Attach photo (4x6 inches)

7. Cut embellishments from decorative folder.

8. Layer embellishments and labels around photo as per picture of layout.

9. Embellish with pearls and twine.

10. Attach title above photo.

11. Journal.

My challenge is to use something not traditionally scrapbooking and mists on your layout. (ie. I have used the Cavallini folder on my layout and mists from Maya Road and Tattered Angels). The mists do not have to be commercially made mists – can be home made.

Don't you just love the greens and browns... perfect winter colours for this chilly time of year! We look forward to seeing all your wonderful misted layouts [hint: if you don't yet own a mist you could use an old toothbrush and load it up with paint to splatter onto the layout... it should produce a similar effect].

[All hail Queen Kim!!!!]

A note from Kim:
I am married to my wonderful husband Gary and we have one son, Benson. We live in the northern beaches of Wollongong in Australia – I think one of the most beautiful places on earth. I discovered scrapbooking when I was pregnant with Benson and my first project was his birth announcement cards. I was so proud of them then, but now look at them and think of what I could have done!
Scrapbooking to me is a wonderful combination of storytelling, beautiful photos and creativity. I am fortunate that both my husband and I have a keen interest in photography so there is never a shortage of photos to scrap. I think the story that accompanies the photos is so important and I love to use handwritten journaling to record these stories. I also love to use layers on my layouts, whether that is with paper, inks, transparencies or embellishments, I think that layers add so much interest to a layout.

As a way to record my stories for when I have time to scrapbook them, I started blogging. I love this means of sharing stories and ideas with family and friends as well as keeping memories to inspire future layouts. My blog is www.kimarnold.typepad.com.

I am so excited about participating on the Scrap{a}Tale blog!

We are so, so, so excited to have Kim in the castle with us this month!!!

Kim is such a talented artist and has many scrappy accolades behind her name [as I am sure you will be seeing once you sneak a look at her blog go look quick!!]. She is currently on the design team for American Crafts [my fave], Storyboard Kits, Jillibean Soup, and Inspired Blueprints to name but a few. With all this achievement under her belt she still manages to keep her feet on the ground her creative heart on the go, and look after her gorgeous family - WOW she really does exude all the qualities of a queen right?

Here we go, hope you are all ready...

Stamps are most commonly found on the cards or scrapbook LO’s we make. They are often ‘small’ and subtle.

For this month’s challenge, I dare you to grab a stamp you haven’t used in a while (or even yet), and stamp it on something a little different to the norm. Really challenge yourself to try something new. The final result might still end up on a card or LO, but will have been stamped onto something ‘interesting’ or ‘unusual’. Maybe some metal, fabric, corrugated card....just not the ‘normal’ cardstock or patterned paper.

And if possible make the stamp design feature a little more than background.

Can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Queen Trina McClune is in the Castle...

I had the pleasure of meeting her through one of my blog hopping and instantly fell in love with her work. She is mutli talented, creates BEAUTIFUL jaw dropping projects and even designs her own sketch (which we used for the April Sketch).

So, without further adieu, we introduce you to Trina...

Hi! My name is Trina McClune. I started to scrapbook well before I realised it had a name, and when my MIL asked if I’d seen this new shop down the road, it was like I’d finally come home. As they say, the rest is history.

I’ve been scrapping ever since – approx 6 years - once my twins started sleeping through the night.

I’ve found it to be not only a wonderful creative outlet for me, but also a therapeutic way to mull over ideas, and thoughts as I scrap about those I love.

I live in NZ with my family of 3 children (Matt and Sarah 6, and Daniel 3) and incredibly supportive husband Andy. We live in the middle of NZ’s largest city and have somehow managed to obtain 6 chickens, a cat, 3 large vege gardens and numerous fruit trees.

Here is my step-by-step project I have designed for you...

A totally unique T-Shirt for you or your child....

Here in NZ we are lucky enough to have a promotion with “Persil” washing powder. All you have to do is clip a piece of the packaging and you get a T-Shirt from Pumpkin Patch totally free. And they’re nice t-shirts. The only down side is that they are quite plain. Nothing, is on the front at all. Nothing.

So Sarah (my daughter) and I decided to sharpen her t-shirt up a little.
Of course with my love of Prima, I decided to use some of their stamps to create the main part of the design.

And here’s how you can do the same:

Supplies:
Fabric paint x 2-3 colours
Prima Stamps
Ribbons
Fabric flowers
Fabric word (Prima or your own design)
Felt
Beads
Embroidery floss

Tools:
Paint brush
Sewing machine

Gather your supplies and tools, and then get ready to ‘go’.

Cover your large Prima stamp with the fabric paint. And stamp onto the t-shirt. As you lift the stamp, you may find some parts that haven’t stamped as cleanly as you like. Use your paint brush to ‘tidy up’ those areas.

Allow paint to dry. Then cover with a piece of paper, and iron to set the paint (as per instructions on paint packaging – usually about 5 mins).

Now you can start to have fun with your embellishing.

Choose several ribbons that match the design and layer on top of each other. Then stitch together. And then onto the shirt.

Choose a fabric word from Prima or make your own and stitch onto the shirt above your ribbon.

Above this, stamp another word or two, to make a sentence on the t-shirt.

Next stamp a lovely leaf design to the right side of the t-shirt at the bottom right (as you look at the t-shirt) of your ribbon.

Hand cut a ‘bird’ from some felt, and use your leaf stamp to create design and texture on the bird.

Again, allow to dry and then heat set.

Hand stitch around the edge of the bird, adhering to the t-shirt at the same time.

Choose a selection of Prima fabric flowers and place onto the t-shirt. Use your sewing machine to stitch onto the t-shirt. If you don’t have a sewing machine, pick up some embroidery floss and hand stitch! Go on, dare ya!

Finally scatter a couple of beads onto the t-shirt and hand sew onto it.

Now go and grab your model and put the t-shirt on, stand back and admire your work of art, enjoying how unique it is.

We leave you with that and watch for the challenge to be posted soon...

Let's get to know Jacqui a little more...

I started scrapbooking in 2003.

My favorite scrapbooking product, tool or manufacturer is? This one is a hard one to answer... I love a lot of different manufacturers...some of them include Making Memories, Prima, Doodlebug, Kaisercraft... and the list can go on..... My favourite tool... probably would be my craft knife.... or my crop-o-dile...... and favourite product... I love flowers and buttons.....

My favorite thing to scrapbook about is my 2 beautiful girls …

I scrapbook because I enjoy playing with the beautiful products and I believe I have a story to tell.

I am the happiest when I can scrapbook without any interruptions....especially on a cool, rainy day....

The hardest part of completing a layout is .... finding the right words for the journalling.....

I'm most inspired by ... beautiful new scrapbooking supplies. A parcel of new goodies always gets me inspired to create!

If I could meet any crafter in the world it would be ... (and why?) Another hard question.... I've been priviledged to meet a lot of famous crafters in the world, but one that I haven't had the priviledge to meet yet is Nic Howard..... I love her style of scrapbooking... the layers and 3D effects she uses are beautiful.

Do you enjoy sketches and tutorials and why... Yes, sketches are useful especially when your mojo has gone out the window and you need a bit of a kick start to get back ito the swing of things... and tutorials are nice when you're wanting to learn a new technique or how to make something.....

My favorite scrappy or crafty web site is .... mmm, is this a trick question..... I love two peas in a bucket - they have lots of great inspiration and a lot of great goodies to satisfy any retail therapy urge..
