Howdy!

Been a while huh? Well here we are ...... I’m damn excited to be playing this Friday at Hughes’ House with Edmonton’s Carrie Day, a stellar songwriter. Here’s what they’re saying about her new album folks ....

“Immaculate Night is her third full-length earlier records Pieces of Me and Finding Grace were released under her “hard to pronounce” birth name of Carrie Hryniw and it reveals a songwriter and especially a singer very comfortable in her milieu: Day has poise to spare, and a powerful voice that seems capable of wrapping itself around any emotion Day wants to throw it at, from the breezy happiness of opener “Good Day” to the more plaintive melancholy of closer “Divine Immaculate Night.” – David Berry with Vue Weekly.

“There’s a real sense of raw passion in the singer’s delivery, reflecting the sincerity and real-life inspiration behind most of her confessional-style writing. Listen closer and you’ll hear some serious songcraft going on too, because Hryniw has a talent for finding melodic hooks to hang her words on, whether she’s playing guitar or, occasionally, piano.” – Roger Levesque with The Edmonton Journal.

On the recording front ... I’ll be starting recording with Jon Wood in Vancouver in March on my third album. It’s been a while in the works, but I’m pretty stoked to be getting to work on it! I’ll keep ya’s posted!

Keep it on the up and up, kids.

And the snow falls ....

Hey folks!

Hope all is well. Just watching the lovely snow fall here in Calgary, not so bad as it’s mild right now and hopefully won’t last. It’ll help the lawns they say. Fair enough, I actually drove over a tumble weed buried in snow the other day. Be nice to have green grass in town till July or so ...... we have a few shows coming up this month, should be a time. Looking forward to playing some tunes at the fine Marquee Room, then down into the docks of Inglewood for a night at The Shamrock! Also looking forward to opening up for an old friend from Toronto, Megan Hamilton, at the Palomino. Megan writes beautiful, haunting songs, check out some quotes on her latest release, “See Your Midnight Breath in the Shipyard” ...

“Toronto, ON’s Megan Hamilton forces a high-pressure jet of intense folk rock through a potent blend of human emotion on her second full-length album. More stylistically consistent than her beautifully quirky 2006 debut, Feudal Ladies Club, Hamilton’s sophomore release is a sonic brew powerful enough to make the head swim.”
-Exclaim!, Rachel Sanders

“Her simple vocal lines benefit greatly from her backing band and from sound designer Mark Vogelsang, who recorded the instruments according to how they might sound in various places on a ship.” (NNN)
- NOW Magazine, Paul Terefenko

“Ontarian folk that sways, rocks and writhes, with great production and penmanship. Watch out, Martha Wainwright.”
- Montreal Mirror

Hope to see you out folks, be good!!
