Connoisseurs' Guide to CA Wine has this to say about our not-yet-released 2008 Estate Blend~
"From black currants and briar to loamy earth and new leather, there is plenty of Cabernet sweep and complexity to this deep and fully stuffed opus. There is also more than a delicate touch of sweet oak, and the wine joins with those that make no disavowals of ripeness. It is withal a big, fairly plush and very showy Cabernet, and it has the depth, definition and balance to age famously for a decade or more."

Our 2008 wines continue to impress not only us, but the critics too! Wine Enthusiast magazine (June 2012) awarded our 2008 Estate Blend 93 points and our 2008 Felicity Cabernet Sauvignon 90 points. The Estate Blend will release this fall. With only 220 cases produced, we expect it will sell out quickly.

The Felicity releases to our Allocation Members in April and to the public in May. With only 470 cases produced, this is sure to sell out quickly.

Harvest Continues!

We started the week by harvesting the Petit Verdot and ended by harvesting most of the Cabernet Sauvignon.

The cool summer forced a late harvest that has been punctuated by rain. Normally, rain is a welcome occurrence in California, but not during grape harvest. The added dose of water caused some of the grapes to crack or split. This allowed botrytis mold to get in while continued cool damp weather allowed it to take hold. Thanks to careful vineyard management practices, we were able to minimize the spread, and although our yield is lighter than normal and sugar levels (brix) are a little low, the maturity and quality of the fruit is good. (Have you ever tried a Cabernet Sauvignon grape? Yummy!)

On Thursday, we will wrap up our 2011 harvest with the last two blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon and all of the Cabernet Franc. With modestly warm temperatures, we remain hopeful!

We brought in the Merlot and Malbec today. The Cabernet is at 22.5 brix, but we'd like it to be at at least 24 before we harvest. Hopefully it will get there next week. Remember, Good things come to those who wait! Cheers!

Harvest 2011: Watching and Waiting!

Dawnine walked the vineyard again this morning and is not too concerned about the approaching rain. She said the clusters are loose with no raisining or thin spots on the skins that could otherwise be cause for concern with mold during this late-season rain. We are holding our breath with the Malbec and Merlot. The Cabernet still needs 10 days of good ripening weather.

Waiting for Harvest

Dawnine, our winemaker, is carefully watching both the grapes and the weather to be sure we harvest at the best possible time. The sugar levels are rising and the flavor development is good. That means we could harvest the Malbec and Merlot the week of Oct 10. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot will follow later. We will keep you posted!
