The learner will have opportunities to describe, compare and represent his or her view in a multicultural environment.

Communication courses

Intermediate communications courses promote the development of verbal, written and technical communication skills in relation to participation in Canadian society and preparation for on-going learning. The learner is encouraged to use the language while becoming actively involved in the various contexts of life in Canada.

Advanced courses

Advanced courses are designed for higher-level learners and promote the development of verbal, written and technical communication skills required for further education or employment training. The learner has the opportunity to use and apply the language to prepare for specific goals. These courses consolidate all previous instruction and provide review where necessary. Skill development includes conversation, grammar, reading, writing and test preparation.

Listening and speaking

Basic
Students will improve listening and speaking skills through the use of role play and dialogues, which will expand vocabulary knowledge and the ability to communicate more effectively. Emphasis will be on the development of word attack skills.

Intermediate

This is a remedial course for advanced speakers whose reading and writing skills do not meet the requirements for the advanced level courses. The Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment (CLBA) is used for this purpose. It is based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks, a set of task-based level descriptors of English language ability.

The CLBA provides an indication of the amount of training which may be required for clients to achieve the LINC Program outcome competency level. LINC training consists of a number of instruction levels and may be full or part-time, workplace or community-based, and uses alternative methods such as distance education and computer-assisted education.

Where necessary, transportation and childminding assistance may be made available to LINC participants for whom language training would be otherwise inaccessible.

Clients may participate in LINC for up to three years from the time they start training. LINC aims to have the same proportion of women and men participating in its program as is reflected in the local immigrant population.

Term of agreement

Agreements for any funding component may be signed for a period of up to twelve months.

Additional Information
To find out more about LINC schools, contact your nearest Canada Immigration Centre
or see the CIC's Web site.

Link to Canada LINC Schools and LINC assessment centers

**********

Schools in Canada URL
http://schools-in-canada.blogspot.com/

link to ESL in Canada Directory of ESL English tutors teachers classes
lessons, Canada universities colleges schools, Canadian ESL English as a second language schools programs instructors, free ESL English lessons, homestay, education coaching, consulting services, student resources, information and advice across Canada, North America.

2008 Toronto English plus Summer Camp

Canada Summer Day School Survey

We have many requests for Toronto Summer Camp and Summer Day School Programs during July and August 2008.

Would you be interested in any of the following programs and dates?

Email to: info (at) eslincanada (dot) com

Language Day school only 9 to 4 PM for Ages 8 to 18

Beginner English ___Intermediate English____ Advanced English____
Beginner French___Intermediate French____Advanced French___

Beginner Spanish___Intermediate Spanish____Advanced Spanish___
Beginner German___Intermediate German____Advanced German___
Beginner Mandarin___Intermediate Mandarin___Advanced Mandarin___
Beginner Russian___Intermediate Russian____Advanced Russian___

2008 Toronto English Plus Summer Camp

The 2008 Toronto English Plus Summer Camp will operate in July to August 2008.

ESL in Canada has made arrangements for special ESL English classes to operate at some of the attractions and events to supplement the in-class English school lessons.

This 2008 Toronto English Plus Summer Camp program is open to international tour leaders who wish to travel to Canada with their students.

Participants can choose programs from 1 to 21 days. Each Course Book provides approximately 90 - 120 hours of class work.

Market Leader includes recent ideas from the world of business. Each unit is topic-based and features regular role plays and company case studies. Students are encouraged to use their own experience and opinions to maximize involvement and learning.

The course book provides the main part of the teaching material, divided into topic-based units. The topics have been chosen following research among teachers to establish which are the areas of widest possible interest to the majority of their business English students.

The Course Book provides input in reading, speaking and listening, with guidance for writing tasks. Every unit contains vocabulary development activities and review of essential English grammar. There is a focus on key business functions, and each unit ends with a case study enabling students to practise language they have worked on during the unit.

A typical unit consists of the following sections:

Starting up
Students have the opportunity to think about the unit topic and to exchange ideas and opinions with each other and with the teacher. Throughout, students are encouraged to draw upon their life and business experience.

Vocabulary
Essential business vocabulary is presented and practiced through a wide variety of creative and engaging exercises. Students learn new words, phrases and collocations, and are given tasks which help to activate the vocabulary they already know or have just learnt. A Vocabulary File at the end of the book gives students the opportunity to revise core vocabulary from the Course Book units under topic headings. There is further vocabulary practice in the Practice File.

Discussion
There are a number of discussion activities which are designed to build up students confidence in expressing their views in English and to improve their fluency. Discussion topics include: ‘Talk about your favourite brands’, ‘Rank a list of unethical activities’ and ‘Discuss the importance of cultural awareness in business’ (Market Leader Intermediate) among many others.

Reading
Students read new articles from the Financial Times and other business sources. They develop their reading skills and acquire essential business vocabulary. The texts provide a context for language work and discussion later on in the unit.

Listening
The authentic listening texts are based on interviews with business people and experts in their field. Students develop listening skills such as prediction, listening for specific information, and note-taking.

Language Review
These sections develop students’ awareness of the language problems common to their level of English. They focus on accuracy and knowledge of key areas of grammar. Students can use the Grammar reference at the end of the Course Book and there is further practice in the Practice File and in the Business Grammar and Usage book.

Communication Skills
This section helps learners to develop their communication skills in the key business areas of presentations, meetings, negotiations, telephoning and social English. Each section contains a Useful Language box which provides students with the support and phrases they need to carry out the business tasks in the regular role play activities.

Case study
The Market Leader case studies are linked to the business topics of each unit. They are based on realistic business problems or situations and encourage students to use the language and communication skills they have developed while working through each unit. They give students plenty of opportunities to practise speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in realistic contexts. Each case study ends with a follow-up writing task. These tasks reflect the real world of business correspondence and will also help those students preparing for Business English exams. A full writing section is provided in the Market Leader Practice File.

Review units
Each review unit is designed to recycle and revise material covered in the preceding Course Book units.

Practice File
This gives extra practice in the areas of grammar and vocabulary, together with a complete section in business writing. In each unit students work with text models and useful language, then do a writing task to consolidate the learning. The practice File provides regular self study pronunciation work (with an audio CD and exercises), and a valuable Business English survival language section.

Audio materials
All the listening activities from the Course Book (interviews with business practitioners) and the Practice File (pronunciation exercises) are available on cassettes and audio CDs, depending on users' preference.

Test File
A free Test Master CD ROM provides an entry test, some progress tests and an exit test, which reviews the work done throughout the course.

Video
The Market Leader Videos offer students the opportunity to see the Business English they have been studying presented in real context, and the situations and characters in the films also enable them to gain an insight into business issues and working relationships. Each video is accompanied by a set of photocopiable worksheets and a transcript.

Please use this registration form link for inquiries or registrations

Schools in Canada BLOG URL
http://schools-in-canada.blogspot.com/

Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship Program

The Government of Canada offers scholarships as part of the Commonwealth Scholarship Plan (CSP). This course is characterized by its ability to act as a thorough overview, introduction, and refresher at the same time.

In this course, participants will learn the entire proposal writing process and complete the course with a solid understanding of not only the ideal proposal structure, but a holistic understanding of the essential factors, which determine whether or not a program gets funded.

Through the completion of interactive exercises and activities, participants will complement expert lectures by putting proven techniques into practice. This course is designed for both the beginner looking for a thorough introduction and the intermediate looking for a refresher course that will strengthen their grant acquisition skills. This class, simply put, is designed to get results by creating professional grant proposal writers.

Participants will become competent program planning and proposal writing professionals after successful completion of the course. In three active and informative days, students will be exposed to the art of successful grant writing practices, and led on a journey that ends with a masterful grant proposal.

Three (3) courses that will be completed during the three-day workshop.

(1) Fundamentals of Program Planning

This course is centered on the belief that "it's all about the program." This intensive course will teach professional program development essentials and program evaluation. While most grant writing "workshops" treat program development and evaluation as separate from the writing of a proposal, this class will teach students the relationship between overall program planning and grant writing.

(2) Professional Grant Writing

Designed for both the novice and experienced grant writer, this course will make each student an overall proposal writing specialist. In addition to teaching the basic components of a grant proposal, successful approaches, and the do's and don'ts of grant writing, this course is infused with expert principles that will lead to a mastery of the process. Strategy resides at the forefront of this course's intent to illustrate grant writing as an integrated, multidimensional, and dynamic endeavor. Each student will learn to stop writing the grant and to start writing the story. Ultimately, this class will illustrate how each component of the grant proposal represents an opportunity to use proven techniques for generating support.

(3) Grant Research

At its foundation, this course will address the basics of foundation, corporation, and government grant research. However, this course will teach a strategic funding research approach that encourages students to see research not as something they do before they write a proposal, but as an integrated part of the grant seeking process. Students will be exposed to online and database research tools, as well as publications and directories that contain information about foundation, corporation, and government grant opportunities. Focusing on funding sources and basic social science research, this course teaches students how to use research as part of a strategic grant acquisition effort.

Registration

$597.00 USD tuition includes all materials and certificates.

Each student will receive:

* Certificate in Professional Grant Writing

* Guide to Successful Grant Writing

*The Grant Writer's Workbook with sample proposals, forms, and outlines

****************************

For Special Prices Go to:
http://www.eslincanada.com/eslspecials.html

Student Registration forms
http://www.eslincanada.com/registration.html

Student Consulting and Education agency services
http://www.eslincanada.com/agency.html

*********

Schools in Canada BLOG URL
http://schools-in-canada.blogspot.com/

ESL in Canada Directory, information articles, reports, opinions, observations, lists of ESL English schools, programs, classes, ESL teaching jobs, teacher resources and teaching materials.

We offer two programs focused on work.

The Rocky Mountains are famous around the world for their beauty and recreational opportunities. Many of our students come here to learn English and to experience the natural environment but others come here to find work while improving their language skills and enjoying the nature around them.

The Rocky Mountains are famous in Canada for being the preferred destination in Alberta. Alberta is experiencing an economic boom and the demand for workers is extremely high. Our Work Programs allow students the opportunity to experience work in Canada while exploring the beauty of the Rockies.

We offer two programs focused on work.

Internship Program: This program combines English instruction with paid work

Tour Guide Professional Program: This 1-month program prepares students for work in guiding in English and in their native language.

Internship Program

Study English and earn money. Our Internship program focuses on English education and work placements in the following areas:
· tourism
· the environment
· resource management
· community development
· sustainable and organic production
· hospitality
· park management
· education

It is not always easy to understand the process of finding a job in Canada. We offer an easy way for students to improve their English and acquire paid experience in a real English-speaking work environment. Homestays are also available for short- or long-term stays. Internship Fees: $750

This fee is in addition to program and accommodation fees and includes:
· assistance with Study and Work Permit applications with local Canadian Embassy or Consulate
· job skills training in:
· resume preparation
· interview skills
· workplace language
· assistance in acquiring a Social Insurance Number
· preparation and arrangement of interviews for candidates
· access to office supplies and equipment (fax/copier/PC/etc)

Conditions and Procedures

We can arrange paid internships but paid internships may not be available for all applicants. The Letter of Acceptance will include the practicum or work requirements of the program. The student will then apply for Study and Work Permits through the appropriate Canadian Embassy or Consular Office. There is no additional fee for the Work Permit portion of the application. Also please note:

· the study portion must contain at least 15 hours of classroom instruction per week
· the study portion must be the same length or longer than the internship portion
· the work portion must be an integral portion of the academic portion (work must be in English)

Tour Guide Professional Program

This four-week program is designed for international and Canadian students who hope to work with English in the Tourism Industry. It is often difficult to find employment in tourism, which requires experience, strong language skills and specific qualifications.

English classes will be held in the morning from 8:30-11:30 covering topics such as; tourism-related vocabulary, guiding language, confidence in public speaking as well as resume preparations.

These classes are open to students of all English levels. In the afternoon from 12:30-15:45 students will enjoy guide-training classes including field trips with professional guides. We are developing one of the most unique and practical systems of education in the world.

Founded in 1998, our school quickly developed a reputation for being highly academic and for providing a very warm learning environment. Now, we are taking education to new heights through reward-based programs, extensive non-traditional studies, and a student-centric approach to learning.

Our base curriculum includes instruction in as many as 5 languages, highly advanced Math and English classes, a well-developed and customized ESL program, and a variety of specialized classes (Art, Health, Science, Music, Dance, Computers, Etc.). To complement our base curriculum, we offer an Enriched Learning Program, which engages students in Drama, Debating, Media Studies, Design (graphic & building), Photography, Woodworking, Environmental studies, Horticulture, Logic, Financial Studies, Event Planning, Chess, Billiards, Fitness, Martial Arts, and more. In addition, we offer and extracurricular program that includes a variety of activities such as tutoring, tennis, soccer, and other sports.

Our teachers, aside from being selected from thousands of applicants, have been trained to fit the school philosophy. We do not want to force students to learn. We prefer for students to learn because the subjects are interesting. Our prime focus is making lessons adventurous and enjoyable.

Our faculty constantly collaborates with the Student Council to bring more excitement to the learning process. We ask of our students just one thing, to pursue their interests and discover their passions. The entire school community works as one, and students are treated as key members of the planning team.

The school also provides students with door-to-door bus service, a kitchen that serves daily fresh meals, and a home-stay program. Our home-stay program is one of the best, as we carefully select living conditions that are comfortable and safe. Home-stay guardians are often teachers themselves and can provide additional academic support.

Our parents, students, and teachers can attest to our nurturing and adventurous learning community. It is difficult to provide people with a true feel for our school through text alone, so I encourage you to visit the school.

For Special Prices Go to:
http://www.eslincanada.com/eslspecials.html

Student Registration forms
http://www.eslincanada.com/registration.html

Student Consulting and Education agency services
http://www.eslincanada.com/agency.html

For additional options with online lessons and phone English lessons go to:
http://www.eslincanada.com/goldsilver.html

*********

Schools in Canada BLOG URL
http://schools-in-canada.blogspot.com/

ESL in Canada Directory, information articles, reports, opinions, observations, lists of ESL English schools, programs, classes, ESL teaching jobs, teacher resources and teaching materials.

SAVE 20% FALL Specials for Toronto ESL English School

FALL 2007 Specials for Toronto ESL English School - SAVE 20%

Standard 20 - A course with 20 lessons per week, covering all aspects of the language from pronunciation to grammar and vocabulary to practice in the four skills.

Intensive 30 - Suitable for students who wish to study intensively and get a well rounded insight into the language and country.
