1. Turn existing purchases into a fundraiser

We had to market AND sell a mystery product given to us on that same day. Our mystery product was a new cookie from Big Island Candies that we branded “The Chocolate Mac Crispy”. It really is a good cookie though. It’s supposed to meet the new health standards being used next school year for any and all fundraising products.

Some chose to run or walk a 5K through Mounds View neighborhoods, while other residents cheered them on. Afterward, everyone could go inside the Mermaid in Mounds View for a pancake breakfast. Both events were fundraisers for the youth hockey association. 5K co-coordinator Rhonda McConnell suggested the group will be planning a second 5K, and spoke of appreciation for all who entered the inaugural run. Event co-coordinator managed the activities inside the Mermaid, which included an “equipment swap,” where hockey families could find used skates, pads, helmets and other gear that other families were no longer using. Residents, along with local and state officials, celebrated the grand opening of Silverwood Park, 2950 W. County Road E. in St. Anthony, last Saturday. The park was once a camp that was operated by the Salvation Army for inner-city youth. Now owned and operated by the Three Rivers Park District, Silverwood opened on Aug. 12. Visitors during the grand opening could walk through the professional art gallery in the visitor center, attend performances at the outdoor amphitheater, and explore the biking and walking trails. In addition, there was a ribbon cutting ceremony, art demonstrations, and interactive activities such as face-painting, papermaking, wheel-throwing, and spinning wool. The Fridley City Council last night proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. A representative from the Alexandra House announced the organization is expanding services for sexual violence victims, starting Oct. 1.
