How to get about 30 doughnuts for about 2 bucks! Great for when your kids have friends over.

Hi again! It’s almost spring, HURRAY!

I was watching some children playing and it took me back to the days when my kids were little. One of their favorite things to do was have “sleep-overs”. They would have a great time playing, maybe watching a movie, eating popcorn, running around. It wasn’t exactly peaceful, but it was fun.

In the morning my boys always wanted O.J. and doughnuts for their friends and them. Here goes how I got about 30 doughnuts for about 2 bucks!! And they’re delicious!

I would buy 3 cans of store brand biscuits for 49 cents a can. I would separate them and then to make the holes I would use a pill bottle to make a perfect circle in the middle.

Next, I would take some oil (Crisco or whatever) in the bottom of a skillet then fry the holes - then the doughnuts. When the holes were done I would dip them in a cinnamon sugar mix. You can do that with the doughnuts, too. I would also frost some of them with a powdered sugar and milk frosting. I let the doughnuts cool a bit, otherwise the frosting would get runny. You can save the oil for a 2nd use (refrigerate) because these fry clean. If you want to be fancy, you can use the Pillsbury Grand biscuits, but they are a bit more expensive.

Here’s the breakdown:

3 Cans of Roundy’s or store brand biscuits at $0.49ea

$1.47

Figure the other ingredients at $1.23

$1.23

Total

$2.70

Papa Murphys take-n-bake pizzas! My favorite! Watch for coupons in the Sunday paper or in mailings. Join the eClub, too.

What would I do without my Papa Murphy’s pizza when I get a pizza craving? Picture this:

It’s a cold windy March day. I pick up a take-n-bake pizza.. wait, it gets better.

That evening I start the oven, turn on the TV, have a fire, or a candle also gives that cozy feeling and TADA! I’m all set. Don’t Forget.. PJs and fuzzy slippers add the finishing touch.

But what about the cost? First there are often coupons in the Sunday paper or in mailings. All kinds of great pizza specials and they even honor expired coupons!

On top of that, you can get a take-n-bake club card and for every pizza or calzone you buy they will stamp it one time. Plus, Thursday is double stamp day. When you have 12 stamps you can get a Family Size one topping pizza for FREE!! In my area instead of that you can substitute a fully stamped card for $10 off the pizza of your choice.

P.S. For additional great deals, join the Papa Murphys eClub at www.papamurphys.com/eClub

I tried something new and impressed myself. How about that! I thought maybe you would like to try it. I am going to a ladies get together and I wanted to bring a treat of some kind, but money is short. What could I do? Then it came to me. Valentines day has past, I went to CVS and Walgreens, they both had candy for 75% off. I bought a 16oz Russell Stover heart box of chocolates and 2 beautiful oranges. I made a flower of one orange, put 1 round chocolate in the middle to make a “flower”. Then various chocolates all around and orange sections for a border. I used 5-6 inch round doilies to dress it up underneath.

Here’s how it broke down:

$9.99 Russell Stover Chocolates at 75% off

$2.50

2 beautiful oranges (40 cents each)

$0.80

Doilies I bought at the dollar store at 24 for $1.00

$0.21

Total

$3.51

If you do this, I promise I won’t tell if you don’t tell!

I'm going to use my $10 on Cottonelle toilet paper (16 roll pack with additional 4 free) for $12.97, minus a $2 coupon I have

One of my favorite bargain spots is CVS pharmacy. Here goes:

1st, get one of their cards - it takes about 5 minutes. Then, let the earnings begin! They keep track of your spending, and 4 times a year you get extra CVS bucks. 2% on all purchases, 50¢ for each prescription. The extra bucks show up at the end of each cash register tape.

One bargain this week is:

buy $20 worth of Pepsi / Mountain Dew / Lays Chips + Tostitos (all on sale), get $10 CVS extra bucks to spend on whatever you want - even sales items.

I’m going to use my $10 on Cottonelle toilet paper (16 roll pack with additional 4 free) for $12.97, minus a $2 coupon I have, bringing the cost down to 97¢ or less than 5¢ a roll. Now don’t go away - with that purchase you get another $4 extra bucks reward. Hmm…I see Tide is on sale for $5.99 and I need detergent. I have a 50¢ coupon. So, $5.99 - $4 = $1.99. Minus my 50¢ coupon, that leaves a final price of $1.49!

At Christmas time I made five pounds of fudge - it’s pretty pricey but during the holidays you go the extra mile to make it special. I gave some away and set a bit aside for my husband. The rest was put out for our Christmas get-together. Guess what? It was gone (and I was pleased).

My husband asked where the rest was and when I said gone he complained that “all those vultures ate it up.” I said, “Vultures? Every time I saw you, you had a piece of fudge in your hand!” He looked at me with those puppy dog eyes and I melted, “ohh alright.. I’ll make you some more.”

Shortly after the holidays I went to the store to pick up the ingredients. My recipe calls for 1lb of bulk milk chocolate, but most stores don’t stock it after Christmas. Oh Dear, I’ll bite the bullet and get a pound of Hershey’s chocolate bars. I was on my way to the candy section of the store and like magic appeared a Christmas clearance table - everything was 90% off. They had several 14oz milk chocolate Santas that were regularly $5.99 marked down to only $0.60! Wow, I thought that’s a steal! Keep this in mind, Valentines Day and Easter are right around the corner, and more tables like these are bound to be set up right after!

I figured I would include my fudge recipe, so here it is:

Momma’s Fudge (5lbs)

1/2 tsp Salt
1 stick of butter
4 cups of sugar
1 13oz Can of Evaporated Milk
12oz package of chocolate chips
1oz Bakers unsweetened chocolate
1lb Milk Chocolate
1 5-7oz Marshmallow Cream
2 tsp Vanilla

Boil first four ingredients (salt, butter, sugar, evaporated milk) in large kettle, stirring for 4 minutes. Remove from heat. Mix in the rest of the ingredients until melted. Optional: Add 2 cups of nuts. Pour the mixture on a wax lined pan. Cool until set.
