Just a couple of points about the SSA website, in case you’ve not spotted them already.

Firstly, the site is not restricted to SSA members, but of course we would like you to join, and you can do so here. Membership will of course get you discounted travel on the SSA coaches for away matches, access to SSA social events, a membership gift when you sign up, and of course, that wholesome, warm feeling of being part of something special. Anyway, back to the website; for booking coach seats for away travel, just follow the link in the box at the top of the right hand sidebar – this will be updated each time we are running coaches to away games. From the linked page you can sign up for your seats and pay securely via Paypal.

Below the coach seat booking box is a distinctive black and red box with all of the latest news about Sarries; This is being assembled, courtesy of Google, from a variety of sources, but not replicating the information you get on the official Saracens site, or the ‘unofficial’ message board. If you click the ‘view all’ link at the bottom of the box, you will see a different screen, with the news snippets, and where you can set up an RSS feed, or just ‘follow’ our intrepid reporter.

The menu in the lefthand sidebar gives access to other information on the site, with the recently added guide to pubs, bars and accommodation options in the Watford and Wembley areas. There are links in the 2010/11 Fixtures list to information about away grounds, and we’ll be happy to add any more to these pages, based on any information you can provide. The ‘What’s On’ link displays a calendar of fixtures, with the immediate upcoming games appearing further down the sidebar.

We’ll happy to hear from you with any suggestions about SSA activities and the website, so feel free to add a comment to this item, or email siteadmin@saracenssupporters.com

The donations were the result of a surplus in the SSA funds, due to a successful first year of the revamped SSA. A big thank you is due to all of those members of the SSA who have travelled on the SSA coaches, attended the Quiz night and generally given their support to the SSA. At half time in the pre-season friendly against Esher, SSA chairman, Stuart Jones presented cheques to Henry and to Richard Hill, for the Saracens Sports’ Foundation.

Meanwhile, The SSA had a busy afternoon in the distinctive red gazebo (see below), signing up new, and re-newing members, and handing out membership gifts. There are still a few SSA 25th Anniversary commemorative shirts available – you can see Stuart, resplendent in his! Just get in touch if you would like one for yourself. If you haven’t joined, or rejoined the SSA, you can do so here, or just catch any of the SSA committee members at the remaining pre-season games.

Oh, the rugby finished with a 13 try victory for Saracens over Esher, final score Saracens 85 Esher 10, and here’s Mauritz Botha crossing for his first half try.

The Players Q&A Session at Old Albanians last night gave supporters the chance to welcome and interrogate the six new boys who have joined the first team squad for the coming season.

The guys fielded a range of questions about that ’something special’ that caused them to join Saracens, as well as their expectations for the season ahead. High on their list of reasons for joining was coaching set up, the set of values that the club advocates around the players and their families, and of course, the winning culture that came to the fore last season. Expectation are high as the Premiership and Heineken Cup campaigns get underway rugby and the confidence and determination in the squad to build on last season’s performances is strongly evident.

There’s little doubt about the rugby qualities these guys bring to the squad, but perhaps the biggest surprise of the evening was to discover Kelly Brown’s talent as a singer. The evening concluded with Kelly serenading the room full of supporters with his Meatloaf impression. Now that was something special.

Saracens v Leinster @Wembley – Saturday 16th October

Following this week’s announcement that the Heineken Cup fixture against Leinster will be played at Wembley, here is some early notification of the facilities being offered by The Green Man to supporters of both teams.

On offer is a discounted special hotel rate for a two night stay (Friday and Saturday) for £100.00 on a room only basis per room. The room and breakfast option will cost £125.00, and this will include a full English/Irish breakfast served between 8am and 10am. This offer is only available by booking with The Green Man direct.

Discounted parking is available for those not staying in the hotel, charges are £12.50 per car and minibuses at the rate of £20 per minibus. This must be booked through the pub direct (0208 903 1441)

Coach parking is offered free of charge, but must be booked through the pub direct.

The SSA will be running coaches to Wembley, details will be available soon.

The above offers are available to both sets of supporters. They need to quote the Leinster or Saracens supporters clubs when booking rooms or cars.

On Friday 15th October (evening) there will be a Live Irish Band performing and they will probably be back for Saturday as well.

On Saturday 16th October (Match Day) there will be catering available, with a huge hog roasts. There will be 3 outdoor bars as well as the indoor bar facilities. An additional marquee will be set up in the garden to increase the amount of sheltered area outside the pub. There is a half acre garden with a covered patio area that has great views of stadium, as well as the large bar areas and conservatory inside. The pub is having a refurb in September and by the time October comes around, this will mean increased toilet facilities for the men, and therefore less queing.

So for a real pre- and post-match atmosphere have a look at the pub on You Tube on event days and you will see the large numbers that can be accommodated! The YouTube videos mainly show football supporters, so turn off the sound before you watch.

The Green Man is only a 5 minute walk to the stadium (downhill), so it means more drinking time and less walking time for the supporters!
