Quick Quiz Where is the nearest fire extinguisher right now? Where is the closest portable fire extinguisher at your normal work area?

It's very important that we each are aware of portable fire extinguisher locations without having to look too hard for too long because in the panic of the moment if a fire was to suddently occur, seconds count.

More importantly, when is the last time you actually looked at the portable fire extinguisher in your work area? Have you ever?

- Is it charged fully?

- Is it damaged?

- Is it the proper type for

Employees using electric tools must be aware of several dangers; the most serious is the possibility of electrocution.

Among the chief hazards of electric-powered tools are burns and slight shocks which can lead to injuries or even heart failure. Under certain conditions, even a small amount of current can result in fibrillation of the heart and eventual death. A shock also can cause the user to fall off a ladder or other elevated work surface.

To protect the user from shock, tools must either have a three-wire cord with ground and be grounded, be double insulated, or be powered by a low-voltage

TEAMWORK

A "team" consists of two or more individuals engaged in an activity to reach a common goal. When we think of "teamwork" it is usually in the context of completing a task or a job together.

Working together on the job has many benefits; physically helping each other distributes the work load, increases productivity and reduces the risk of injury.

Studies have shown that the effectiveness of a team increases with the social familiarity of the team members. The more you know and like someone the more you are able to trust and count on them. You get to know their skills,

It's not my Fault!

How many times have you heard a child (of any age) exclaim "it's not my fault!" or "it wasn't me!"?

Whether or not these statements are true is beside the point, what we are talking about is how we conduct ourselves and what image we project to those around us.

Is Good Communication the Key?

Horns, buzzers, flashing lights, delayed start-up circuits, interlock switches and so on are all helpful items to safeguard your safety and your co-workers. However, they are not everywhere as the following article highlights.

Excerpts from Taunton Daily Gazette – March 14, 2013
By Maria Papadopoulos

AVON — Federal and state investigators are probing an apparent accident this week in which a Hanover man died when his co-worker from Lakeville drove over the man with a trailer truck at an Avon crane company, police said.

Emergency crews responded to Parker Drive off Bodwell Street in the Avon Industrial Park after police received an emergency
