More Style X Musician Models Announced

As the lookbook states, Style X is a different type of fashion event. One way Style X sets itself apart from fashion events around the world is by speaking directly to the stylish nature of the consumer through its unique runway shows. With just weeks to plan Style X's debut in 2011, the idea was born to have runway shows with SXSW Showcasing musicians as the models instead of the traditional catwalk experts who never quite seem normal or stylish at all. From there, we reached out to dozens of SXSW musicians with this bold new idea: walk the runway for us before or after your official SXSW gigs!

Letting Up Despite Great Faults and Candy Claws were just two of several bands and musicians who said, "Hell yeah, we'd love to model in the shows!" Several buzzworthy bands and musicians joined these bands and had a blast being outfitted in the wears of the dozens of showcasing brands and being seen by fashion bloggers and photographers galore. This year, Letting Up and Candy Claws both return to the runway along with dozens of emerging artists including New Zealand's Electric Wire Hustle, Austin's SPEAK, and the musicians listed below. Make sure to check them out on the stage and the runway during SXSW Music!

The runway shows are completely FREE and OPEN to the public - no badges or wristbands needed - on both Friday and Saturday, March 16 & 17 from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. in the Austin Convention Center's Exhibit Hall 4.

Style X presents the Personal Guided Shopper Experience

Sign up now for FREE individual 90 minute shopping sessions with some of Austin's most gifted stylists on March 16-17th from 12-8pm at the Austin Convention Center. The Style X Personal Guided Shoppers will help you make the most out the Style X showcase by pointing out the hottest trends, the most innovative designers, and the most interesting brands present at the event. All participants that sign up will have access to the exclusive Personal Guided Shopper Dressing Room, and opportunities to personalize their Style X experience, like designer introductions, and individualized purchasing recommendations.

For more information and to sign up for a session, please email Ophelia at

Shopper@avecmode.com .

Personal Shopping “Style X” Style

How many designers are at Style X? Which ones? What do they specialize in? What would I like? Where can I find them after Style X? The litany of questions could continue for quite a while but it’s all done in an effort to get your arms around everything that’s out there! We’ve got an easier solution that is undoubtedly more fun and even a little bit high-end. The brainchild of several great minds, a new service called Personal Guided Shopping (PGS) is being launched at Style X this year. PSG is a concept that takes all of the poshness of personal shopping and combines it with 60+ emerging designers to create an experience that will leave you with the perfect items!

PGS is essentially personal shopping at Style X: you can schedule a 90 minute appointment with one of several Austin-based, cutting edge stylists. They’ll have you complete a questionnaire, run through their mental (& paper) rolodex of what’s perfect you, and then take you shopping to pick out what is undeniably you! The roster of stylists goes deep to include FIT-trained stylists as well as some of Austin’s most well-known personalities. Choose one (or we’ll pick for you) and then get your own guided shopping tour of what’s haute.

Not sure if it’s for you…? Well, are you 100% clear on what you love and know exactly what you’re interested in finding? Or are you undecided about your style and what works for you, and could use a bit of expert insight? Or are you just used to the finer things in life and want someone who can walk and talk “shop” with you? If you said “yes” to any of these questions then indeed PGS is for you. If that’s not enough, it’s FREE to the public! What more could you ask for?

PGS will be open from 12-8PM both days of Style X, but secure your appointment now before all seven of these stylists’ calendars get booked!

First-Ever Style X Music Showcase Set With Niki & The Dove Headlining

Charming Charlie plays party host to buzzworthy bands from around the world at Driskill Hotel

Style X has partnered with official fashion accessories partner Charming Charlie to host its first-ever Style X Music Showcase. Swedish band Niki & The Dove and New Zealand’s Electric Wire Hustle lead a diverse lineup of emerging musicians who span multiple regions and musical genres, but all share a knack for style. The showcase is set for Thursday, March 15 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Victorian Room in the historic Driskill Hotel on Sixth Street & Congress Avenue in Downtown Austin.

"Fashion and music have an intrinsic connection. Whether it's on the runway or in one of our stores, you can't separate the two. We're not only proud sponsors of STYLE X, we're very proud sponsors of the inaugural Style X Music Showcase," said Charlie Chanaratsopon, CEO and founder of Charming Charlie.

The Style X Music Showcase Presented by Charming Charlie set times (tentative):

1 a.m. - 1:50 a.m. Niki and the Dove (Electro-Dance-Pop, Stockholm, Sweden)
12 a.m. - 12:40 a.m. B. Bravo (Electronic, San Francisco, US)
11 p.m. - 11:40 p.m. Jessie Rose Trip (Soul-hop, Manchester, UK)
10 p.m. - 10:40 p.m. Letting Up Despite Great Faults (Electro-indie, Los Angeles, US)
9 p.m. - 9:40 p.m. Love Inks (Pop, Austin, TX, US)
8 p.m. - 8:40 p.m. Electric Wire Hustle (R&B/Soul, Wellington, New Zealand)

“We launched Style X primarily because we realized there is such an authentic connection between musicians and style,” said Joah Spearman, co-founder and executive producer of SXSW’s official fashion discovery showcase. “Partnering with Charming Charlie, a company setting the retail world on fire, is a perfect opportunity for us to celebrate some of the hottest, most stylish bands at SXSW.”

Niki & The Dove is a band from Stockholm, Sweden with two members, Malin Dahlström and Gustaf Karlöf. Their first single “DJ, Ease My Mind” b/w “Under the Bridges” released on leading UK independent Moshi Moshi, was one of the most striking debuts of the year, catching the attention of everyone from Artrocker and NME through to The Sunday Times who declared the single could “be the two greatest alt-pop songs of 2010.” And if “DJ, Ease My Mind,” revealed a band with a precociously fully-formed sound, their self-released follow up “Mother Protect” shows that Niki & The Dove are truly poised for great things. Niki & The Dove were listed fifth in the BBC Sound Of 2012 poll and are signed to the legendary US label Sup Pop.

Bay Area funk sorcerer B. Bravo will seduce dance floors with alluring melodies, exceptional musicianship and booty dropping beats. From sensual slow grinders to floor shaking bass anthems, its all a party. B. Bravo first gained acclaim both in the U.S. and abroad with joints like 'Midnite' and 'Computa Love', which garnered him backing on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings.

The Jessie Rose Trip is a Manchester, UK trio fronted by enigmatic sylph singer songwriter and musician Jessie Rose who, with her stunning soulful pipes and heavy blues guitar riffs, has won rave comparisons with everyone from Billie Holiday to Jimi Hendrix. The unfamiliar will be pleased with some seriously catchy melodies and riffs that are perfectly combined with the Trip’s stomping hip-hop and dance influenced grooves.

Letting Up Despite Great Faults first entered the music scene with the release of the Movement EP, which included songs that were featured on NPR and the hit television drama, One Tree Hill. The band’s releases have been met with critical acclaim from Pitchfork, Rolling Stone and countless music blogs, and their latest offering, Paper Crush EP, shows a continued reinvention of their dream-pop sound.

Love Inks is a minimalist pop band from Texas. Their sound is imbued with raw emotion, sexuality, and splashes of electronic color. Focus is placed primarily on the voice, which is direct and honest. “Performance is an all encompassing medium. Fashion is the visual element, the chance to be a painting, a character or simply convey the emotion in your music before playing a single note,” said lead singer Sherry LeBlanc.

Developing their own sound and twist on modern hip hop, psychedelic and soul Electric Wire Hustle’s unique sound challenges genre boundaries and preconceptions. Their strong live show has seen them perform all over the world and at notable events such as the UK’s Glastonbury, The Big Chill and Barcelona’s Sonar festival.

In addition to the Style X Music Showcase Presented by Charming Charlie, musicians are set to participate in runway shows taking place between 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. on both Friday & Saturday, March 16 & 17 at the Austin Convention Center. These shows will feature SXSW Showcasing musicians in clothing by brands ranging from Rachel Rachel Roy and Dickies to vintage favorites What Goes Around Comes Around and Australian men’s brand Zanerobe; shoes from Oliberte, boots from Helm and accessories from Charming Charlie, jewelry star Kendra Scott and eyewear company Tortoise & Blonde will also be worn. DJ Premium, Red Carter, RumbaTime, Feltraiger, Ivy Prepster, Lulu*s and GAP are official musician gifting partners.
