Harvest Festival

The Harvest Festival is the fall festival SFUMC throws for the children each year. It will be Sunday, November 8 from 5-7pm. We'll help to lead games and activities for children.

Some youth will be helping in several areas throughout the night, but the main "youth" project will be DANIEL AND THE LION'S DEN. We will be telling the story and building a giant cardboard maze. (Think: smoke machines, spider webs, a surprise lion or two...)

We'll begin setup at 2pm, so come be a part of this special event for the kids.

Missions Auction / Dinner

There will be an Auction / Dinner to benefit FUMC Missions this Saturday, Oct24. Youth are needed to serve tables. Youth are asked to wear black pants or skirt & a white dress shirt. (Guys, wear the pants and leave the skirts to the ladies. Ladies, you can wear pants if you want.)

Be there by 5pm this Saturday. We should be done serving by 8pm. Plus, after serving tables, Youth eat free!

You're doing more than putting food on tables. You're helping our church raise money to send people on mission trips!

Time... It flies when we're having fun. It drags when we sit through a boring class. But it never stops. And we never seem to have enough time to do all the things we feel like we need to do. We're taking two weeks to talk about making wise use of the limited amount of time God has given us.

Week One: Live on Purpose.
Our time on earth is like a dot. Eternity is like a never-ending straight line. Which one will we live for – the dot or the line? When we live carelessly, we’re actually moving ourselves in the opposite direction of our goals and desires. When we live carefully, however, we make the most of our days by doing what matters.

Week Two: Trade Now for Then.
Most of us want to be great, but we don’t want to work. We want to win the game, but don’t want to practice. We want to get into college, but we hate studying. You get the idea! The truth is if we want an incredible life in the future, we have to make better use of our time now. When we shift our thinking in this regard, the rewards are awesome!

Parents' Meeting Rescheduled

The Youth Parents' Meeting has been rescheduled due to the funeral today.

The meeting will be NEXT Sunday, August 30, at 4pm in Room306 (3rd floor).

This meeting is for all parents of youth (grades 7 thru 12) and anyone who would like to be involved with the church's youth ministry.

Note: There will be two groups traveling to Orlando. Group 1 will leave Friday, Sept. 11 from FUMC at 9AM. Group 2 will leave Saturday, Sept.12 from FUMC at 8AM. Hopefully this helps those who cannot leave on Friday (for school or athletic reasons), but due to ticket & hotel costs, all registrations are the same price. Both groups will return Sunday, Sept.13 about 8pm.

You must turn in three things to be signed up for this trip:

The completed sign-up form. Available at the Youth Office or online here.
A check for $120 made out to Statesboro FUMC.
A completed Parental Consent Form (available at the Youth Office or online here).

Beyond the Yearbook

Ahh... the Yearbook.

It captures memories of the school year. It's a reminder of sports teams and club activities. And, looking back years later, it's a record of the bad hairstyles and questionable outfits we thought were so great!

But what if we had a picture of a life beyond the superficial pages of the yearbook. What if we learned to live beyond the one-dimensional photo images that every student wants to be in a yearbook. What if we understood that life is much bigger than simply capturing a school memory and being in the pages of a yearbook. Living beyond the yearbook is living with a big-picture in mind.

Over the next three weeks, we'll look at how decisions you make now about identity, community, and a relationship with God will have eternal importance. And we hope you'll have a deeper understanding of the fact that God has a bigger and better plan for your life than you could ever dream of.
