We heard your concerns and we have determined that under normal circumstances, Bacon Street will be open to vehicular traffic.

Over the next couple of weeks, work at the reservoirs’ North Basin will be completed and the construction trailer and temporary fencing will be removed. At that same time the bollards will be lowered allowing Bacon Street to reopen for vehicle use.

Bacon Street bisects the two basins of the University Mound Reservoir. Within this area there are operating facilities, supplies and materials used throughout the City to maintain our potable water supply and fire-fighting supplies.

In the event of an emergency it may be necessary to close Bacon Street so that emergency response personnel and equipment can be staged and deployed safely and efficiently. Such a closure will not be accompanied by advance notice. The duration of an emergency closure would be determined by the nature of the emergency. Public health and safety will be the primary factor in determining the status of this street during any emergency. The street will reopen following the cessation of any emergency response activities.

If you have any questions, or would like any additional information, please contact Lolita Sweet at 415 551-4394 or LSweet@sfwater.org

Estimado Vecino,
Goats Coming to U-Mound Reservoir this Weekend

Beginning Friday, June 24 and last through the weekend the SFPUC will perform its annual fire prevention work by bringing in goats to manage weeds and overgrown bush at the University Mound Reservoir (south basin). Also, for the first time, residents were introduced to the proposed small renewable hydro-electric project slated to begin in 2012 at the South Basin of the reservoir.

Communication Staff Suzanne Gautier welcomes residents to the open house.

The North Basin seismic upgrade that started in late September last year is on schedule and on-time. Close to 45% of the project has been completed as of April; most of the interior work, such as micro-piling, building of the moment frames and foundation reinforcement is complete. We all must prepare.

One of the best and easiest things residents can do is store tap water for emergency use. After a big earthquake, water mains may break and homes may be without water for several days. We are upgrading our pipelines, reservoirs, pumping stations and other facilities to prepare for the next big earthquake.

Store at least one gallon of tap water per person per day to last at least three days. Store in a cool, dry place away from heat and sunlight and change water every six months (pour water on a plant and refill bottle).
